A Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Tuesday remanded 16-year-old housewife, accused of poisoning the husband to death in children’s remand home.

The defendant, who lives at Shittar village, Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State, is facing a count charge of culpable homicide.

She was accused of poisoning the husband, Auwalu Isa to death.

The Chief Magistrate, Hajiya Fatima Adamu, who ordered the remand, adjourned the matter until June 7 for mention.

The prosecutor, Insp. Aluta Mijinyawa, told the court that one Ibrahim Yahaya of the same address reported the matter at Danbatta Police Division on April 25.

He said that the accused on April 22, at about 7 p.m., cooked food for Isah, 35, and mixed it with rat poison.

“After her husband ate the food, he died instantly as a result of food poising,’’ he said.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 221 of the Penal Code.

No less than 133,324 candidates have applied for the ongoing recruitment of 6,000 constables into the Nigeria Police Force, with Lagos having the lowest number with 1,013.

Kaduna State has the highest number of applicants with a total of 6,962,

Katsina with a total of 6,676 has the second highest applicants followed by Benue and Niger with 6474 and 6409 respectively,Punch reports.

The Police Service Commission in a statement on Thursday by its spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, said Bayelsa has the second least of 1,097 applicants followed by Anambra that has 1,117 and Ebonyi with 1,303.

It stated that the screening of the applicants would start on Monday at all the state police command headquarters and the Federal Capital Territory.

The commission explained that invitations had been sent to the applicants who were expected to report at the screening venues on days indicated in their invitations.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, has urged the police to prioritize the health and safety of Sen. Dino Melaye before prosecution.

Dogara made the call at the plenary on Thursday in Abuja after a personal explanation was raised by Rep. Sunday Karimi (Kogi-PDP) drawing the attention of the House to Dino’s plight.

The senator is currently facing a seven-count charge of criminal conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms in Kogi State.

The helmsman of the green chambers, however, said that anyone who committed any offence must face the law.

The speaker said he had not seen any country where anybody had been arraigned in court on stretchers.

“I have not seen in any country where someone is arraigned in court on stretchers when he or she is not fit to plead guilty or not guilty.

“If anything happens to him, (Dino) the responsibility will be on the security agency,” he said.

Earlier, speaking under personal explanation, Karimi said in the process of arresting and transporting Dino from Abuja to Lokoja by the police, the lawmaker was involved in an accident and was hospitalised.

Karimi said that he counted no fewer than 36 policemen guarding the hospital where Dino was receiving treatment.

He said Dino, who had yet to fully recover, was being tried while still on stretcher.

According to him, Dino is being persecuted for his political believe and what is happening to him can happen to any of us.

“I appeal to the house to look at the issue and make sure due process is followed,” he said. (NAN)

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Raymond Dokpesi’s United States (U.S.)visa has ben revoked because his name is on the looters list released by the Federal Government, the media mogul has said.

He has sued Minister of Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who announced the list, seeking payment of N5billion damages.

No date has been fixed for hearing the suit filed on Monday before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
He is seeking N5billion damages for alleged defamation of character,The Nation reports.

Dokpesi said the defendants allegedly sent his name as a looter to the United States Embassy, which in turn notified him on March 16 that his visa had been revoked.

The US Embassy, he said, told him it was because his name was among a looters list submitted to it by the Federal Government.

The plaintiff said the publication of his name as a looter was malicious since he has not been convicted by any court of competent jurisdiction.

Dokpesi prayed that the retraction and apology to him be published both in the social media and in newspaper and televisions stations.

He is also praying for an order compelling the defendants, including Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami (SAN), to publish a full retraction of the defamatory publications and to apologise to him.

In the suit by his lawyer Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Dokpesi is also praying for a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants or their agents from further making any defamatory publications against him, and N50million as cost of the action.

The publications, he said, have prejudiced his constitutionally guaranteed rights to presumption of innocence until proven guilty, and that his right to fair hearing as enshrined in the Constitution has been blatantly violated.

“The defendants’ defamatory publications are malicious and calculated to overreach and prejudice my fair trial and for purposes of stampeding and cowing the court to convict me at all cost by agreeing with the defendants’ skewed position,” the plaintiff said.

Dokpesi said on March 30, the defendants allegedly defamed him by publishing his name as treasury looter in a news conference on the basis that he is on trial for allegedly receiving N2.2billion from the office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

42-Year-Old Nigerian Lady Jailed For Attacking Her Husband’s Girlfriend With Bleach In UK

According to Standard UK, Ajayi was given a two year jail term for throwing bleach into the face of a woman she believed was her husband’s mistress Jane Ocran.

The mother-of-two attacked Ocran who was sitting in her convertible Mercedes outside her home on June 17, 2017.

It was also reported that the heartbroken woman emptied a bottle of household bleach over Ocran’s head and beat her with her wig.

Inner crown court disclosed that the former ministry of justice administrator severally slapped and punched the young lady before battering her with her hand bag. The lady managed to escape after sustaining serious injury but her sunglasses was able to protect her eyes from the harmful liquid.

However, the young lady denied being in an affair with Ajayi’s husband but disclosed that she went shopping and returned to his home in Brixton.

The prosecutor Dyer said: “The defendant took off her own wig and used it to hit Ms Ocran, slapping and punching her a number of times in the head. The defendant emptied the contents of the handbag into the street and then walked back inside her home. Passers-by doused Ocran’s face with water and she was treated in hospital for soreness to her eyes."

Gerwyn Wise, who was trying to justify Ajayi’s case disclosed that the woman has been the victim of domestic violence during her 16-year-marriage and her husband had openly embarked on several extra-marital affairs.
