Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has undertaken to offset the medical expenses of Maryam Abubakar, a Sokoto indigene suffering from cancer and presently receiving treatment at an Indian hospital. Her case has gone viral under the hashtag SUPPORTMARYAM and elicited various online donations from good Samaritans who sympathized with her plight. Announcing his intention in Sokoto to offset the bill, Tambuwal, who spoke through his special adviser on media and public affairs, Malam Imam Imam, also urged the people, especially the Muslim faithful, to pray for the success of the impending surgery and eventual recovery. “Maryam is one of us and everything possible will be done by the state government to ensure her full recovery,” he said. The patient, a staff nurse at the state Specialist Hospital, is an indigene of Gilbadi village of Gada Local Government Area of the state. She was diagonised with liver cancer in India in 2016 and requires the sum of four million Naira (N4,000,000) for a definitive and life-saving surgery where the diseased part of the liver will be removed. Speaking in Sokoto, one of the promoters of the SUPPORTMARYAM appeal, Dr. Auwal Ahmed, commended Tambuwal for the gesture, and prayed to God to ensure her quick recovery. “The Governor has intervened in other areas for citizens in need of help. This is commendable and we pray to God to reward him,” he added. http://www.newshelmng.com/2017/06/photos-gov-tambuwal-offsets-medical.html

A former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, a former governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime, and a former governor of the old Anambra State, Jim Nwobodo, were among erstwhile chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party appointed into the caucus of the All Progressives Congress in Enugu State. Other members of the caucus, which was inaugurated at the APC secretariat in Enugu, include a former Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Eugene Odoh, Foreign Affairs Minister, Jeffrey Onyeama, a former military governor of Gombe State, Group Capt. Joe Orji, Director General of Voice of Nigeria, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, and a former secretary to Enugu State Government, Chief Onyemauche Nnamani. The APC chairman in Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye, who also heads the caucus, said the inauguration of the body has positioned the party to win the 2019 general election in the state. The APC must produce the governor of Enugu State in 2019, Nwoye declared. He observed that the APC had made significant strides in Enugu in a very short time, noting that the former governors, the former Senate President, and some other prominent individuals who were appointed into the caucus, were not members of the party about a year ago. http://www.newshelmng.com/2017/06/apc-appoints-3-ex-pdp-chieftains-in.html cc lalasticlala |
The muslim players in the senior national team of Nigeria are currently at loggerheads with coach Gernot Rohr over their plans to observe Ramadan Fast on the day of the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers against South Africa. Rohr allowed Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdullahi to observe the mandatory ramadan fast in the friendly game against Togo, and even though the players broke their fast during the half time break as it was time to, the coach still hauled them off after the break. Ahead of the game against South Africa, the coach has reached out to the duo and want them not to observe the fast on matchday against South Africa, as they are very pivotal to his plans. The players are yet to give in to his demand, with Musa particularly not keen on skipping the fast which forbids them from eating from dusk till dawn citing his being used to the practice right from his days in Nigeria. Same goes for Abdullahi, but Alhassan Ibrahim the other muslim in the squad need not worry much because the chances of him getting his competitive debut in the game is very slim judging by the options available to the coach in his role. http://www.newshelmng.com/2017/06/rohr-and-eagles-muslim-players-disagree.html

Senator Dino Melaye says some residents of his state that are seeking for his recall from the senate are not even members of his constituency and so their demands are not valid. Last week, a group of youths from Kogi state petitioned INEC asking for Melaye's recall following the release of a purported audio tape where a male voice allegedly that of Dino was discussing bribe with a female voice, alleged to be that of Justice Akon Ikpeme, the tribunal judge who handled his election case in 2015. Speaking in an interview with Channels TV yesterday, Melaye said the youths demanding his recall are being sponsored by his state governor, Yahaya Bello and his political rival, Smart Adeyemi. “I am not scared, I am not perturbed. They are sponsored by Smart Adeyemi and my governor. And I want to tell you that those who even came to ask for the recall are not my constituents and it is unfortunate that they did not even know what to do. INEC told them to go back and do what they are supposed to do.” http://www.newshelmng.com/2017/06/those-asking-for-my-recall-are-not-from.html cc lalasticlala |

According to a report by the Nigeria Electronic Fraud Forum, NeFF, a total of N11.9 billion was lost by Nigerians to the Mavrodi Mundial Moneybox, MMM, Ponzi scheme in 2016. The NeFF annual report said Nigerians invested over N28.7 billion in MMM between June and December 2016. It said the N28.7 billion passed through the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System, NIBSS, involving only 14 banks. These banks are currently on the NIBSS industry Anti-fraud System, HEINDALL. This indicates that the aggregate amount Nigerians invested in the MMM and the loss could be much higher than the above figures, it said. It added that Nigeria’s financial sector lost N2.19 billion to fraudsters in 2016 and that some banks shield fraudsters in the financial system by refusing to expose them, thereby making it easy for such criminals to continue in their evil deeds. http://www.newshelmng.com/2017/05/how-much-nigerians-invested-and-lost-to.html |

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig. Gen. Sulaimon Kazaure, has asked corps members in Lagos State to be security conscious. The warning came barely 72 hours after the kidnap of six pupils at Lagos State Model College, Igbonla, near Epe, with the abductors demanding N1bn ransom. Speaking during his visitation to the NYSC orientation camp at Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, on Sunday, the DG listed 5 precautionary measures to be taken by the corps members. He said, “Avoid shortcut in anything you do and act gently as corps members(1). You should avoid sharp practices(2) and understand the dos and don’ts of your host community(3). Avoid unnecessary journey(4), night parties (5) and never walk alone to obscure places. Walk in groups and always be security conscious(6). “Wherever you are posted, your welfare and security are my top priority. If you have any challenge, kindly put a call through for assistance.” He asked the corps members to use their service year’s opportunity to contribute to the development of the country. The Lagos Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Mohammed Momoh, said proper arrangements had been made to cater to fasting Muslim corps members. According to him, their meals are prepared separately from others. http://www.newshelmng.com/2017/05/nysc-issues-6-point-warning-to-corps.html cc lalasticlala

The Presidency hereby assures the good people of Nigeria that, despite the insinuations of a number of media organisations, there is no need for apprehension over the health of our President, Muhammadu Buhari. President Buhari’s absence at the Federal Executive Council meeting of Wednesday, April 26, was a last minute decision, otherwise, the cabinet and the public might have been alerted in advance. As eager as he is to be up and about, the President’s doctors have advised on his taking things slowly as he fully recovers from the long period of treatment in the United Kingdom some weeks ago. President Buhari himself, on his return to the country, made Nigerians aware of the state of his health while he was in London. Full recovery is sometimes a slow process, requiring periods of rest and relaxation as the Minister for Information, Lai Mohammed, intimated in his press briefing after the FEC meeting on Wednesday. http://www.newshelmng.com/2017/04/there-is-no-need-for-apprehension-over.html cc lalasticlala |

Kwame Asiamah, a 42-year old Ghanaian man allegedly had anal sex with his own 3-year old daughter at Asenua near Mamponteng in the Ashanti region of Ghana. The man who is currently at large did not only subject his daughter (name withheld) to anal sex but had vaginal sex with her. Narrating her daughter’s ordeal in an interview with UltimateFM, the mother of the victim, Emelia Asiamah who for long has been suspecting the act, said she noticed that her daughter experienced pains anytime she attempted to walk or urinate. According to her, the poor girl disclosed that her father inserted his ‘manhood’ both in her vagina and anus when the mother was not home and most times when she visits the toilet there is always blood dripping out of her body. ‘The incident happened two weeks ago, but when I questioned my husband about it, he denied and ran away from the house, claiming he couldn’t have had sex with his own daughter. I knew he was lying to me, I don’t know why the man I married has turned into a pedophile. My daughter has not been able to attend school since the incident, how can a father do this to his own daughter?, I thank God that he has publicly confessed, but I have reported the case to the police,’ she mentioned. She, however, revealed that she was not surprised when her daughter told her of the ordeal because the husband in 2015 had anal sex with their second boy who was almost three years old. Ms.Emelia indicated that out of stigmatisation and fear, she refused to report the case to the police and even the family members. The police are hunting for the suspected pedophile. http://www.newshelm.com/2017/03/photos-man-engages-in-anal-sex-with-his.html
