@kobojunkie, the reason it's so expensive to build roads and other structures in the Niger Delta region is because of the type of land they have. It's so swampy/marshy and water logged that the earth has to be dug up, filled with stones different kinds of stones and what not before being covered back with earth again.
If you put this into consideration you will see what will almost complete a project for you in other parts of the country will just get foundation completed for you in the ND. Their contract sums are usually high in comparison to other regions cos of this swampy or marshy land of theirs that's also rich with oil.

LOL kobojunkie if i doubted you were abroad before now i don't anymore. FYI Virtually the whole of Africa, English and French, is watching Nigerian movies. It is no secret that Nolly wood movies are sold in virtually every market (literally) in africa. The industry is still disorganised but still churns out wealth to It's stake holders.

As for my "talk", i can also see that you really might be a direct beneficiary of the chicken change from crude oil that's why you feel my talk of diversification is just "talk".
Again you say Nigerians should stand up and fight for their rights and again i tell you that's what the agitators you call terrorist are doing.

I'm not from the south south so nobody should get me wrong. I'm from a parasitic state my self.
What i don't understand is how many years does it take you to develop other sectors of the economy(sectors we were surviving on before independence) ?
Why is Nigeria so scared of venturing into Mining, Agriculture and Entertainment ? These three sectors we have been told over and over again will provide more employment than oil ever will. It is there on ground for every one to see in other countries but we just keep turning away.
What does it take for those useless wastes of space in Abuja and their vision 2020 to realise that no top ten economy in the world is a top ten economy because of oil ? All crude oil does is provide you with fuel and cash, but you have to use that fuel to power something and that cash to fund something.
For all the money Russia makes from oil she's still a technological giant. Even the "USA" use Russian rockets when their space shuttles have problems. Virtually 1 in 3 countries with an AirForce use Russian Migs. Russia, for your information competes with Saudi for title of highest exporter of crude oil. So what do we really believe we can achieve with 2 million barrels for fck sake ? You want to be a top economy with $40bn in govt revenues ? Off my head i can count 3 foreign companies whose profit before tax added up to more than that. What the hell ?

Uchenna my reply applies to you too.

@kobojunkie shocked is that my christmas present ? Did i just hear you say "attack the state and local govt first " ? shocked
If you believe they should "attack" the govts at local and state level before any thing, then our question is answered.
Afterall the agitation borders on the premise that for years they had been suffering such hardships and appealed to no avail for a remedy. Ofcourse there is a due process pertaining to such things like complaints and protests, but what happens when that process is dysfunctional(like every other thing in Nigeria) ? undecided hmm ! What happens ?

I ask you to read the synopsis of that movie to know that the ANC did not only have a political wing, but a military and youth wing as well with each one tasked with different responsibilities. In that movie you'll see an attemp to blow up a refinery, an act which even MEND i'm sure would consider extreme as a result of the wider consequences on the common Nigerian. I think their careful selection of targets that do harm to govt revenue and not the common speaks volumes of their
approach.
And as for you saying state govts receive millions from the FG, why don't you try explaining that to the fisherman who can't fish anymore cos of oil contaminated waters or can't sleep anymore cos of sick children. All he knows is that the govt in collusion with foreign oil companies come, extract and destroy his environment. Do the people who pay the state govt those millions not have a responsibility to make sure the state govts use those funds judiciously ?

Kobojunkie you make me laugh grin . This supposed distractions of mine are the very motivating factors that drive the struggle.
And as for the creek boys accepting 65k in return for their ideals, i believe the joke is on the govt if after spending money on them the bombings still continue. But other than that, i believe Yaradua to be a man of his word from the little i know of him. If he makes good on his promise to bring what is deservedly theirs to the ND then would we say MEND fought in vain ? If they refuse to make good on their word and continue to deprive Nigerians of what is theirs then i can bet my life on not only the resurgence of MEND but the emergence ME Middle Belt, M E Eastern Nigeria, M E Yoruba Nation etc.
Politics › Re: MEND Resumes Hostilities And Attacks Shell/Chevron Pipeline by edoyad(m): 7:31pm On Dec 24, 2009
@Uche2nna , if you know anything about the liberation struggle in SA by the ANC you'd know they bombed govt installations too back in the day. Like i told kj, just google and read the synopsis of the movie titled "to catch a fire" , a true story to get an idea of what the ANC was like back then and tell me how different they are from MEND.
Politics › Re: MEND Resumes Hostilities And Attacks Shell/Chevron Pipeline by edoyad(m): 7:18pm On Dec 24, 2009
May be some people should read the origin of states as propounded by such masters as John Locke and Thomas Hobbes to get an understanding why we even submit to govt in the first place.
When communism started to put forth It's extremist head in Europe in reaction to inhuman conditions that the common was facing, i believe it became a death sentence for one to be labelled as "communist". Now they coined a new word for the new extremists reacting to the inhuman sufferings of my citizens, TERRORIST . They always have to label any voice in opposition as terrorists . While i frown on extremism in all It's forms, i believe it is a "reaction" to something and not the cause of itself. That something definitely is "injustice"

Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in "The Communist Manifesto".
Page 1, paragraph two
Where is the party in opposition that has not been decried as communistic by It's opponents in power ?
Politics › Re: MEND Resumes Hostilities And Attacks Shell/Chevron Pipeline by edoyad(m): 6:20pm On Dec 24, 2009
Sorry for the Interlude everyone
Kobojunkie this is why i said this issue cannot be extricated from man's ageless struggle with injustice. Whoever told you MEND are fighting against the Nigerian govt ? Their struggle is definitely against the structures that have been put in place by a malficent few to ensure that their kitties are perpetually reimbursed by the blood of common Nigerians- in this case the ND people.
I've giving you a clear example of the African National Congress that was labelled a terrorist group and Nelson Mandela who till this day is considered a terrorist by the US govt but you still insist on branding MEND as evil cos of the nomenclature certain parties have branded them under ? Well if being a terrorist is what is takes then so be it.
Politics › Re: MEND Resumes Hostilities And Attacks Shell/Chevron Pipeline by edoyad(m): 3:19pm On Dec 24, 2009
Well kobojunkie you can see where our problem lies. I on one hand, believe that you cannot extricate the MEND phenomenon from realities of life, you on thee other hand believe that the MEND saga is the first of It's kind under the sun.
Man will has fought, is fighting and will continue to fight what he perceives as injustice or oppression whether it comes in the form of Apartheid, Genocide, State oppression or what ever form of it he is confronted with.
Politics › Re: MEND Resumes Hostilities And Attacks Shell/Chevron Pipeline by edoyad(m): 2:47pm On Dec 24, 2009
Well even though those are the only Latin words i know, i still think It's a brilliant language.
And for your not knowing what the African National Congress(ANC) has in connection with MEND, they're both organisations whose roots has is base on fighting for a better deal for It's people. The ANC also bombed oil installations and were labelled as terrorists when the objects of their infernal desire started to feel the pinch.
Pls look for a movie titled "to catch a fire" which has as It's lead actor african american, Derick Luke(who starred as Serena's hobby in a video of the rapper, Common ,alongside Alicia Keys and Kerry Washington). Or you could just google the movie and read the synopsis.

EXITUS ACTA PROBAT is the romantic/latin way of saying , "the end justifies the means" - which may involve the brutal massacre of innocent civilians or abduction in exchange for sustenance, which ever case is found suitable at that point in time. Don't you think Latin is just brilliant ?
Politics › Re: MEND Resumes Hostilities And Attacks Shell/Chevron Pipeline by edoyad(m): 1:56pm On Dec 24, 2009
Kobo, please do check which renowned African/south African statesman/ex-president, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday, is still on the US govt's list of wanted terrorists . In the 70s and 80s many democratic govts considered the ANC a organisation, wrong or right ?
Politics › Re: MEND Resumes Hostilities And Attacks Shell/Chevron Pipeline by edoyad(m): 1:32pm On Dec 24, 2009
@kobochico and mrchangewecanbelievein, in your inquiry on how i can consider support a cause has has the an inglorious reputation for abduction of innocent civilians, I'll let you know not every one operating in those creeks is a genuine agitator- same way not every one abducted is an innocent civilian.
Other than that I'll use the latin phrase, "EXITUS ACTA PROBAT ! !"
Do you think that the ANC did not have the same negative publicity to counter ?
@Yeswecan you mentioned the noble alqaeda right ? I'll take the abducting of innocent civilians for a ransom to beheading American contractors any day.

Sagamite i'm sorry to say the criteria you've mentioned do not give considerations to such limitations, if we were to have a comparative analysis, as ; type of govt, economic embargoes placed or lifted, price of oil (when 90% of your dollar earner is from one product) and other differences in their circumstances.
I guess what we should be asking is if Abacha would have fared better as a democratically elected leader of Nigeria, if There's such a thing as a democratically elected president in Nigeria.
Politics › Re: Bloody Clashes In Central Nigeria by edoyad(m): 12:20pm On Dec 24, 2009
Wilywily don't let your ignorance kill you for nothing, if you don't understand the story read it again. The tribes men being spoken of there are from ethnic groups in the middlebelt and are not hausa- most likely gwari . The states in which fulani and hausa clash are far upnorth and it rarely happens since they're kind of intertwined cultures from years of intermarriages.
About the global warming issue there really is some truth to it if you don't know. Though I've never been far up north myself but from kaduna where i stay we hear stories of how desertification is encroaching into many places and how drinking wells that used to dry up in March/April (just before the rains) are now drying now up in december/january. Population increase too has It's own hand in the problem but i believe it has a lot more to do with global warming and the resultant effects like drop in rain fall in these parts,
I agree with this piece 100%.
Nigeria was a better country under Abacha.
OBJ's regime was worse and Yaradua has not impressed me one jot.
Oboy why do you hate OBJ so much ? Inspite of his flaws that man is one of the reasons there still exists a place called Nigeria.

Let's not zero Nigeria's problems down to the personalities. It has a lot to do with the system/society/people(kobo junkie you can have sardonic smile now tongue), and even if you brought the world renowned Emeka Anyaoku or Martin Luther Agwai to rule this country, the same thing would still occur.

Okonjo Iweala knew this and ran for dear life and reputation.

Believe you won't find a more vehement critic of such people than me. See how up to 10 thousand bankers in Nigeria have lost their jobs cop of them.
The problem is that the evidence being brought by EFCC is so weak sometimes that even a 2nd year law student can quash their charges. They ought to do better than these charges.

@sheriffy , from what you're saying she could acquire a decent flat from any where between $350k to $1 mil.
So Let's assume the average price of all the 30 she owns lies around 600k, that would make the total for the 30 $18 mil. Do you know how many Nigerians have goods far more valuable than 18mil ? That amount can't even fetch you a decent private jet if you ask me.

No doubt he'll go in record as one of our worst ever leaders. But do you know that many people who ruled with him are still in power in one form or the other ?
Secondly don't pin crimes he didn't commit on him. That'd be like blaming Hitler for Americas racial problems in the 60s . He was terrible no doubt but his death did not end evil and corrupt people/leadership in Nigeria cos it's still going on in gargantuan proportions as we speak.

Mr Crackles me don't think so either. It just feels like he's guilty of boning a white chick in a society that's not too receptive to inter-racial relationships.
But he shouldn't have bailed in the first place, seeing such a hideous murder and not reporting it is a crime in itself.

I'm not an Abacha supporter, but who said he hated jews ? Please someone google and check who restored Nigeria's(what year and regime ?) diplomatic ties with jewish state after they had been severed for years.

Secondly he wasn't a tribalist and didn't hate yoruba people some of you are claiming. It just so happened that people like Gani and many other yoruba activists were giving him hell over MKO but he wanted power bad. That combined with sycophants like Joe Maduekwe, Tom Ikimi and others made him think he was the messiah sent to rescue Africa's Zion.
