Politics › "We Are Waiting And Ready For You"- DHQ Tells The Next Shekau Coming by edoyad(op): 6:56pm On Sep 25, 2014 |
Against the backdrop of evidence that Boko Haram commander, Mohammed Bashir, who has been impersonating the late sect leader, Abubakar Shekau in videos was killed on September 17, by Nigerian soldiers, the Defence Headquarters, DHQ, has warned that any other person or leader who emerges using the name ‘Shekau’ will receive the same treatment. The warning was made just as 135 members of the terrorist group have surrendered to troops in Biu, Mairiga-Buni Yadi as well as Mubi-Michika towns.
Briefing the media on current developments in the Counter Terrorism Campaign yesterday, Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade said, “Since the name Shekau has become a brand name for the terrorists leader, the Nigerian military remains resolute to serve justice to anyone who assumes that designation or title as well as all terrorists that seek to violate the freedom and territory of Nigeria”.
Disclosing that many of the insurgents have been surrendering to the Nigerian troops, Olukolade said, “A total of 135 terrorists on Tuesday evening surrendered with equipment, to troops around Biu local government area. A group of 88 submitted themselves at Mairiga-BuniYadi while another group of 45 terrorists were taken in, around Mubi-Michika”.
He said they are all being interrogated and processed in conformity with the dictates of standard best practices”.
Explaining how the operation was going on, General Olukolade said, “Nigerian troops have been conducting coordinated air and land operations in furtherance of efforts at containing the terrorists in the North East part of the country”.
“Somehow, it became apparent that the terrorists in continuation of their campaign of terror were determined to take over communities around Maiduguri which is their prime target. There was therefore the need to ensure that communities such as Konduga were protected”.
“It is noteworthy that the terrorists made not less than four attempts between 12 and 17 September 2014 to violate the security and enter Konduga to perpetrate their atrocities. Air and land forces were subsequently deployed to handle the situation”.
“The convoy of combat vehicles typical of terrorists’ mission that involves their top commanders were fiercely engaged by the land and air forces. Several of the terrorists including some of their commanders lost their lives in the encounters which lasted an average of about 5 hours each. The troops captured some of the terrorists and their equipment”.
“In the course of those encounters, one Mohammed Bashir who has been acting or posing on videos as the deceased Abubakar Shekau, the eccentric character known as leader of the group died”. Continuing he said, “Since the name Shekau has become a brand name for the terrorists’ leader, the Nigerian military remains resolute to serve justice to anyone who assumes that designation or title as well as all terrorists that seek to violate the freedom and territory of Nigeria”.’
“On restoring normalcy after the encounter, inhabitants of the community who were victims of terrorists activities corroborated information on the identity of Bashir Mohammed alias Abubakar Shekau; alias Abacha Abdullahi Geidam; alias Damasack; etc. Indeed, the recent devastation on the leadership of the insurgents is attributable to the renewed commitment to the mission of eradicating terrorism in our country”.
“Meanwhile, a total of 135 terrorists have yesterday evening surrendered along with equipment to troops around Biu Local Government Area. A group of 88 submitted themselves at Mairiga/Bun – Yadi while another group of 45 terrorists were taken in around Mubi – Michika. They are all being interrogated and processed in conformity with the dictates of standard best practices”.
“The Defence Headquarters applauds the gallantry of the Nigerian troops who have remained undaunted and professional in prosecuting this campaign against terror. The keen interest exhibited by our neighbours and allies is commendable and we appreciate them”.
“All allies in the war against terrorism are hereby assured of the Nigerian military’s resolve to maintain momentum in the efforts to decimate and defeat terrorists. The invaluable efforts toward achieving sustainable peace and victory against the terrorists are highly appreciated”.
“It is nevertheless necessary to alert all citizens that there is still the need for even more vigilance and cooperation with the security forces. Everybody is required to remain alert to ensure that we are not taken unawares by terrorist elements who might want to carry-out isolated attacks in any part of our country”.
On the true position of the Chibok girls presently, the DDI said all efforts were still ongoing to secure the release of the girls noting that the military will not relent until the girls are secured.
Asked to comment of allegations by Cameroonian military authorities that they were responsible for the death of the imposter Shekau, Olukolade said, “To the best of our knowledge, we can say categorically that no foreign force of any type penetrated our country’s borders up to Konduga which is just about 35 kilometers to Maiduguri”.
On the situation in Bama and Gwoza, the DDI said, “I want to repeat what the Defence headquarters have been saying all along. We have not conceded any part of this country and we won’t do so. All these areas still remain part and parcel of our operational areas and the operation is still ongoing”.
On why Nigerian troops were now having upper hand over the terrorists in the battle, Olukolade said, “Training and more training has been going on; equipment and more equipment has been coming in. It will keep coming in. There is also a new resolve to deal with all these nonsense once and for all”. http://www.informationng.com/2014/09/boko-haram-we-are-ready-for-you-nigerian-military-warns-next-shekau.html

Politics › $50 Million Discovered In Guber Aspirant's Account By EFCC- Sahara Reporters by edoyad(op): 12:55am On Sep 13, 2014 |
The Financial Crimes commission (EFCC) today admitted it has arrested and detained Jarrett Tenebe, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial hopeful in Edo State who is involved in high level oil theft in the country.
Jarrett Tenebe SaharaReporters learned from sources at the commission today that $50million has been found in an account belonging to Mr. Tenebe.
Yesterday, SaharaReporters reported that Mr. Tenebe was reported to have shocked investigators as he revealed to them he had enjoyed the cover of several top government officials and politicians, naming Mike Oghiadomhe, a former Chief of Staff to President Goodluck Jonathan; Tony Anenih, chair of the PDP Board of Trustees; and Diezani Alison Madueke, the Petroleum Resources Minister.
Admitting the arrest in a press statement today in which it tried to undermine our report, the EFCC challenged the story on the grounds that the information did not emanate from its spokesman.
“The attributions ascribed to the unknown and unnamed EFCC source is shocking as it runs contrary to the established media protocol at the Commission,” the statement said. “For the benefit of members of the public who may have been misled by the attributions, all information emanating from the EFCC to the media are authenticated by the designated official spokesperson, which is not the case with this report.”
It is unclear if the EFCC statement was supposed to have been taken seriously by anyone, as it was not signed by its own spokesman or any known official of the commission. That suggests that the response was indeed authored by someone within the government.
In the face-saving press statement, the EFCC failed to explain why Mr. Tenebe was arrested and put under investigation for close to one week without making the information public or charging the suspect to court.
“It is important to state here that no serving or former petroleum resources minister or public figure has been linked to the investigation in question,” the commission said, adding that the findings of its investigation about Tenebe would be made public in due course.
Citing what it described as its corporate “integrity,” the EFCC declared that it is not “a pliable institution that is susceptible to manipulation by vested interests.”
“Claims, that the Commission “had been under intense pressure from several quarters to muddle up the case in order to spring the suspect free” is an ingenious invention to impugn the integrity of the EFCC,” it said.
SaharaReporters learned from investigators today that the $50 million found in Mr. Tenebe’s account were a leftover of deposits from the illegal sale of crude oil through Saltpond Oil platform in Ghana.
As we previously reported, the gubernatorial candidate, backed by powerful PDP bigwigs, as well as officials of the presidency and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, enjoyed complete impunity until US investigators forced the Nigerian government to look into his activities. It was that US intervention that last week compelled the EFCC to arrest him.
Even then, the EFCC kept the arrest under wraps until our story appeared. “The agency (EFFC) refused to make his arrest public as pressure mounted by Tenebe’s accomplices within the Nigerian government and the PDP party hierarchy.” says an anti-corruption activist familiar with Tenebe’s arrest.

There are children of very extremely rich people that are in the army but they are not well known. Even the Future King of England and his younger brother served in the military, Harry was even in Afghanistan two years ago. How can you rule people you are not prepared to serve ? The warriors who are always quick to criticize soldiers who are dying for their country in Borno are the same people whose family members never join the country. |

SamIkenna: Lol! Why would their children serve...for what purpose? Here in the US, Biden's son is in the military, McCain's in it, even Palin's son is in active duty too. Go to UK the royals serve also. In the so-called 'One Nigeria' its mainly poor people's children coming home in body-bags. I have never been a fan of OBJ but after learning about his son's close shave with death in the hands of Boko Haram my respect for that man just went up. OBJ has shown his gospel on One Nigeria is not a fluke. He's shown his belief in Nigeria doesn't only depend on how much of our oil wealth he's cornered. He fought in the trenches against Biafra and his son is fighting today against Boko Haram, what more proof does anyone need to know that of all the pretenders who sermonized on One Nigeria, OBJ is the only real believer. Whoever says that parents' inputs and choices do not matter at the realm the OBJs, IBBs, Abachas, Danjumas, and Buharis of this world forage politically is being disingenuous. I just had a quick look at OBJ's bio and found out that he's one of the very few Nigerian leaders and power-brokers who never pampered their children. I guess that explains why OBJ's daughter could not stand him. Now, juxtapose OBJ with other loud mouth One Nigerian believers up north and see if you have the stomach to count the number of Lamborghinis and Bentleys in their son's garages. Gwoza is calling and Gwoza is seeking for believers in this failed experiment. The hour has come to translate all the online belief in Nigeria to real practical belief in the trenches of Gwoza. I couldn't have said it better hardywaltz: What of that Blom Blom son of GEJ? You expect a 12 year old to enlist in the military ? |
