If that worked, they would’ve implemented it since. A billion dollar company is behind the channel. With that sort of money, tests are carried out to improve services routinely. People hardly watch TV these days. Everyone streams music and other media. People hardly download anymore. Nobody has time to sit and wait for forty-five minutes for their favourite music video to play. I have many other things to distract myself with. Their business model reached maturity stage. This is the end of an era.

Good riddance. I assumed it was only MTV Base Naija this would affect. The company made a killing from 1981 to 2005. 2004 thereabout was the shift to reality TV. They lost relevance immediately after.

Its debut broadcast of “Video Killed the Radio Star” symbolised a shift in how audiences consumed music, giving rise to a new era of visual music storytelling and catapulting artists into global superstardom.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, MTV expanded worldwide and shaped youth culture through its music rotation, reality shows, celebrity interviews, and award ceremonies.

The brand later evolved into multiple sub-channels such as MTV Hits, MTV Music, and genre-specific retro channels celebrating music from the 80s and 90s.

However, the rise of YouTube, streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, and short-form video apps such as TikTok drastically reduced the relevance of traditional music television.

Over the past decade, MTV shifted increasingly toward reality programming, while its dedicated music channels struggled with dwindling audiences and declining advertising revenue.

Paramount’s decision to shut down MTV’s remaining international music channels marks the most significant contraction of the network since its founding—signalling the end of linear music TV as global audiences move almost entirely to digital, on-demand formats.

They resumed work the very next day after receiving their appointment letters, as instructed, faithful, hopeful, and ready to serve.

Yet, almost a year later, many have not been paid a single month. Workers recruited at the same time, such as accountants and procurement officers, have been paid already, while others are left behind. This selective salary payment has created frustration, hardship, and emotional exhaustion.

Many now survive on borrowed money just to transport themselves to work. Some struggle to feed their families. Others are emotionally drained, but still show up every day because they believe in the system and in the leadership of Governor Bassey Edet Otu.

I remembered very well, one Easter Monday morning, going home from ajegunle, two men,one elderly and one in his mid 40s... It seems the elderly man still remembered the face of one of the robbers, incident that happened 8 to 10yrs ago, the elderly man started talking about the robbery and faced the other man, and asked him,did you remember, naso the man became violent that everyone was like brother na question he asked, it became too serious and elderly man said, I knew it was you... some elderly people remembered the robbery as the man was narrating it, when I got to my stop, me and my bro walking down to our street concluded that the guy was actually the one....
