I think that moulding blocks is not worth the hassle considering the logistical nightmares involved. Sometimes people fail to add the miscellaneous expenses to the total cost. If money is not a big issue, just buy vibrated blocks and that will be one less problem to worry about.

I second the motion. Look for where you can get really good blocks around you. No when you mould and buy, the cost difference is not too much so just save yourself the stress.

I would like to ask why you decided to chain the lintel round the entire building instead of above the door and window openings.

Does this not increase the dead weight of the building unnecessarily?

Considering the economic situation it should be really expensive to do this.

What other advantage does this have apart from evenly spreading the load?

This is not the original roof design intended for this building. The roof type in the initial building plan is a Mansard roof. The building design was subject to some changes from the Lagos state department of physical Planning. After back an forth changes to the drawings we settled for this roof design. This roof is far simple and less complicated than the Mansard roof that was originally intended for the building. I am happy about the outcome though.

An advantage it has over the previous design is that it is cheaper than the Mansard roof in both materials and labor costs.
