HealthKogi Mysterious Disease: Death Toll Rise To 62 by effico(op): 2:20pm On Aug 18, 2017
The Kogi State Government has confirmed that about 62 people have been killed by a strange disease in the Western part of the State.

As at Thursday, 17th August 2017, the death toll was at 50.

Speaking with DAILY POST on the latest development on Friday, the state Commissioner for Health Dr Saka Haruna said information reaching the ministry shows that unknown disease has continued to claim the lives of some children and adults for the past few weeks in Koloke, Okuna, Isanlu-Isa and adjourning Hausa-Fulani communities, all in Yaba-West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
So far, about 62 people have been killed by this mysterious disease. When I visited the affected communities with my team, samples taken from some of the victims were sent to Federal Teaching Hospital Irua, Edo State, for definitive investigation, which turned out to be negative for Lassa Fever.

“On arrival at the community, we interacted with the locals and samples were taken from their water sources and food supply. It was discovered that the people affected showed common symptoms including abdominal pain, vomiting and stooling. Few of the patients however had Hematemesis and Hematochezia.
“Those found still manifesting the disease were transferred to Kogi State Specialist Hospital for proper management where an empirical diagnosis of Food Poisoning to rule out Gastroenteritis was made. They are, however responding well to the instituted line of treatment. ”

Dr Haruna, however, said Governor Yahaya Bello, has expressed deep concern over the incident and has directed that all the patients be treated at no cost and also charged the State Ministry of Health to conclude investigation within the shortest possible time and prevent further spread of the disease.

PoliticsI'm Ready To Heal Buhari, Like I Healed IBB - Satguru Maharaj Ji by effico(op): 4:16pm On Aug 17, 2017
Satguru Maharaj Ji, the founder of the One Love Family, says he can heal ailing President Muhammadu Buhari if the president so wishes.

The sect leader also claimed to have treated the former head of state, Ibrahim Babangida, of an undisclosed ailment while in office.

Maharaj Ji made the claims when he spoke at the Nigerian Union of Journalists Secretariat, in Lagos on Wednesday.

While addressing a cross section of the media on the state of the nation at the occasion, Mahara Ji assured Nigerians that the challenges confronting the nation would soon be over.

"I do not believe in sickness. The president of Nigeria is great and he should remain so. And that is why if he comes to me for healing, I will heal him. I have done it for several public office holders. I remember that I treated Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, IBB, when he was afflicted by an ailment in his leg. I cured him. But he later denied me. That was why the ailment returned."

He added, "Remember the last time he was going out of the country for medical attention, I was the only one who said he would come back safe. What I'm saying is that let's harness our power here to save ourselves. You cannot sit down and be saying Maharaji ji is not a Muslim or Christian. Is God a Muslim? So, if he can come to me, I'll heal him."

The sect leader also spoke about the importance of President Buhari being present in the country.

"It will douse agitation of Nigerians and help address issues challenging the country. Since he left, the acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, has been acting on his behalf very well, he has shown enough competence. And I believe he has defied Nigerians' prediction that he will be a figurehead. I believe he knows what he is doing."
The spiritual leader described the ongoing strike by university lecturers as a decision that could cripple the country's economy.

Maharaj ji, who said the APC would rule Nigeria beyond 2019 in spite of the acrimony in the party, added, "They (lecturers) should opt for dialogue with the government and I am sure, Buhari led administration will cooperate with them because it is in-line with his government policy of change.

"Looking at the ASUU strike, I believe it is a manipulation by the European witches to set the country backward again."

President Buhari has been in the UK to treat an undisclosed ailment for over 100 days.

Maharaj Ji, whose real name is Mohammed Ajirobatan Ibrahim, leads a religious group which has diverse names: One Love Family, the One Love Mission, One Love, One Family, the Divine Love Family.

The group has a centre (ashram), "Satguru Maharaj Ji Village" on a stretch of the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway, near Ibadan.

Its followers are vegetarians and wear badges as signs of their commitment.

PoliticsBreaking: Osinbajo Draws Line On Hate Speech, Says It Will Be Treated As Terrori by effico(op): 3:48pm On Aug 17, 2017
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has drawn a line on hate speech affirming that it is equivalent to terrorism and would be appropriately dealt with by the Federal Government Drawing inspiration from the Prevention of Terrorism Act (As Amended) 2011, Osinbajo said that such hate speeches intentionally done to intimidate the population is tantamount to terrorism.
The Acting President in a series of tweets on his twitter handle on Thursday afternoon charged leaders to speak up saying that it was such silence that promoted the genocide in Nazi Germany and Rwanda.
“FG has today drawn the line on hate speech. Hate speech is a specie of terrorism. The Terrorism Prevention Act 2011 as amended defines terrorism as an act which deliberately done with malice which may seriously harm a country or is intended or can be reasonably be regarded as having been done to seriously intimidate a population.
“Silence in such situations can only be seen as an endorsement. Hate speech & the promotion of the same through history from Nazi Germany & the extermination of Jews to the Rwandan genocide succeeded in achieving their barbarous ends by the silence of influential voices. The silence of leaders at this time – in our country- will be a grave disservice to our country, its peace & its future.”
The Acting President called on business, religious and political leaders to condemn hate speech in strongest terms especially when such speech came from people of their faith, tribe or group.
He stated that silence on such speech could only be seen as an endorsement.
He noted that throughout history promotion of hate speeches succeeded in achieving their barbarous ends by silencing influential voices from the aggressor communities.
Osinbajo stated that when leaders in communities that spoke in such a manner to play dissension were made to be quite it constituted a great disservice to the unity of the nation.
The Acting President reaffirmed that the primary aim of the government was to secure the lives and property of citizens, adding that the administration would not relent in achieving that vision.
Osinbajo also observed that to tackle insecurity there was the need to fight poverty by all tiers of government.
He said that the Inspector General of Police has been directed to constitute a community policing programme to ensure inclusion of all communities in creative ways towards improving security in the country.
Osinbajo decried the past friction between the Federal and State government that has led to low fulfillment of obligations to people, adding that the administration continue to exhibit transparency in dealing with the states to enable good governance.

EducationAcademic Staff Union Of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) Begins Indefinite Strike by effico(op): 5:36am On Aug 14, 2017
Following the outcome of the referendum meeting held! Sunday afternoon in Abuja by the union leaders, the Academic staff Union of Universities has declared an indefinite strike from Monday 14th August 2017. This the Union leader says is to persuade the Federal government to meet their demands. This came after several branches of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have voted overwhelmingly for members in both federal and state universities to embark on an indefinite strike to press home the implementation of their demands.
ASUU branches nationwide on Friday held a referendum in line with an earlier directive by the National Executive Council (NEC) to vote whether the strike will be indefinite strike, one month strike, one week warning and no strike.

The meeting of ASUU NEC is currently ongoing at the union’s secretariat at Abuja to deliberate on the outcome of the referendum conducted by the branches.
Feelers from the NEC meeting indicate that several of the branches including the University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Ibadan (UI) and Lagos State University (LASU) voted for an indefinite industrial action.

One of ASUU Zonal Coordinators told our Correspondent that his zone voted overwhelmingly for strike and that the outcome of the referendum conducted on Friday will be collated to enable the union take a position.

Among issues in contention includes, federal government breach of the 2009 FG/ASUU Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed agreement on financing grant to state universities, conditions of service, non implementation of Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) and re -negotiation of the agreement.

Other outstanding issues are non provision of revitalization funds to public universities, non release of NUPEMCO operational licence, payment of half salaries to members and government owing universities outstanding N880 billion in intervention fund.

RomanceRe: 5 Wrong Definitions Of Love By Many Ladies by effico(m): 6:46am On Aug 02, 2017
optional1:
When you ask some ladies to tell you how sure they are that their boyfriends/fiances truly love them, these are the things many of them use as measuring rods for love from their dating partners.

1.SPARE KEY: Some ladies think, once they have a spare key to the room of their boyfriends, it means the guys are crazy in love with them. Dear lady, receive sense in Jesus name! Don’t you know that a guy can spread his spare keys among many ladies? You have his spare key with you but you must notify him before coming to his house.

Hummmmm, you are not thinking well. I know a guy who gave his girl friend a spare key and she never met any other lady in his apartment and she does not need to call him before coming, yet this guy was double dating. It was later discovered he won’t bring the other lady to his house.

They always meet in his friend’s house for sex and all that. It was when it was discovered that he impregnated the lady that has no spare key to his house while that one with spare key went to throw his key into the sea. Wake up lady! Spare key might not spare you from experiencing heart break from a guy that does not love you.

2:SWEET WORDS: Ladies generally are words freak. Soft words can soften the heart of many lady and make them cringe in excitement over a guy. Many guys are good in using words to deceive many ladies into thinking they love them.

Precious ladies, remember the devil had sweet words with Eve ,still, at the end of every thing, she still lost the garden. Don’t be carried away when that your guy start using his oratory prowess and power to sweep you off your feet. Love is a verb (action) , not just a verbal expression.

3:SEX: Many ladies think that a great sex is equal to a great love. So many ladies think the more they give sex, the more the guy enjoys it, the more he will love them.

A guy can be having sex with you 24/7, yet his heart is farrrrrrrrrr from you, only his body is with you. Never think you can use your vagina to buy love because that’s the only currency many ladies use today to purchase love.

Apart from your breasts and bumbum, what do you have to offer in a relationship? Different styles of sex you do with a guy can not guarantee his love for you. Some of you are reading this, there was no sex style you did not practice with your Ex, yet, two of you are no more together.

If sex guarantees love, may be that guy should still be with you. Any guy asking you to prove your love for him through sex is simply in lust with you, not in love.

4:SOFT FACE:Some guys have tender face. Soft face and they can smile or laugh for the whole world. My sister, the real person is not on the face.

Some have soft face but hard heart, hard character, hard mentality, etc. If you think he loves you because he smiles easily and his face looks cool and soft, I pity you. A guy with soft face can make life hard for you if the soft face is what you call love.

5:SOCIAL MEDIA DISPLAY OF LOVE :Yes, I love social media display of love. It strengthens love and make relationship a role model for other. Yet, it is not a proof of love. The fact that the guy post your pictures on all social media does not mean he truly loves you.

The fact that he uses you as his dp, profile picture, screen saver, does not mean you are safe in his hand. I know a guy that paid 1.5 million to secure a big space on a big billboard on the road his girl friend passes in the morning on her way to work and she will pass the same road while coming in the evening.

This guy wrote on the two sides of the mighty and giant billboard for every one to see and particularly for the lady to see ‘Rosemary ……. (The lady’s surname), I love you. ‘ and many other beautiful words were written on the billboard with the picture of this lady, yet, at the end of everything, this guy still ended up bathing this lady with acid on her hands and legs.

Love is good when he displays it for you on social media platforms, but still check to be sure it a real love.

Take that love to the laboratory and test it!!!

Career9 Signs You Have Outgrown Your Job by effico(op): 9:19am On Jul 10, 2017
Remember your first day at work? The optimism you felt, the excitement that you had for your new role. The expectation that you'd grow within it, learn new skills, and enhance your abilities and experience. Every day was a thrill, every challenge was exciting, and sometimes, you weren’t able to fall asleep just because you were working on a project that was so interesting that you lost track of time whenever you worked on it.

Time eventually passed, and a dim routine settled in. Suddenly, you find yourself in a rut that is stunting the joy and purpose that you derive from your career. You realize that you are stuck and your current role is boring. This could happen to you anytime during your career. The excitement and joy of your work could disappear after a few months or years. It's then that you'd start asking yourself this question: Have I outgrown my job?

If you're still unsure, here are the nine signs that you may have outgrown your job:

1. You are not advancing career-wise

A great job should provide you with more than just a paycheck. Additional skills, new experiences, and even new contacts can all be valuable assets in your career progression. These were the reasons why you took the new role in the first place. You wanted to learn something new and/or have more responsibility. If your current job no longer offers these, then it may be time to re-evaluate your current working situation.

2. You have reached the 'growth peak'

Have you hit a "growth peak" in both pay and responsibilities? If so, you may need to put your overall, long-term career into perspective. When your skill set is not being utilized and there is no potential for future promotion, you know that you've reached a "peak" in your current job.

3. The job is no longer challenging

Is your role no longer challenging? Are you able to work while half-asleep? Are you too comfortable? Although being comfortable at work is important, getting too comfortable is both a drain professionally and personally. If you're not exposed to new tasks at work, then you are surely not adding to your skill set as fast as your peers are at other organizations.

Adversity sparks growth, and it is through that pressure that we acquire new skills. If you switch to autopilot and settle for "easy," this will just leave your abilities, resume, and career underdeveloped.

4. You have poor work-life balance

Is it difficult for you to take a day off? Have your holidays turned into typical working days, and your boss thinks that working from home from time to time sounds like a joke? Your work-life balance has turned into a work-work balance, and the joy from work was replaced with frustration.

5. The excitement starts to die

A sure warning sign that you have outgrown your job is when the excitement fades, and routine takes over. You, then, become the proverbial clock-watcher. And we all have at least one clock-watcher colleague at work.

Perpetual boredom at work often leads to a decrease in efficiency and accuracy. If allowed to become a pattern, boredom will spell doom for long-term career progression.

Every work seems challenging and interesting in the beginning, but it becomes monotonous over time. Our unconscious starts taking it for granted and we might even end up delivering a lousy performance.

6. You just can't stand the people

People problems can range from challenges with customers, all the way to issues with coworkers, bosses, and others. Sometimes, a clash of incompatible cultures is no one's fault and you just find yourself picking arguments with coworkers because your current frustration starts driving you crazy. And when you start to see that your colleagues are getting more recognition or standing out from you in other ways more often than they used to, this can feel discouraging and can further distract you from your job.

7. You are always overworked

Are you performing the work of multiple employees, across multiple skill sets? Any job can experience temporary fluctuations in work volume. But if it's clear that your employer expects you to consistently do the work of several people permanently - even people above your pay grade - you become physically and mentally drained by the end of each day.

8. Your employer cheaps out with old tech/methods

Is your employer married to old technology or ways, making it difficult to accomplish the tasks and responsibilities expected of you? When you see that your peers in other companies are using modern technologies and new methods, which are helping them learn new things and acquire new skills that you don’t have, you start feeling frustrated. Frustration will always set in when a skilled employee is forced to work with substandard tools and old ways.

9. You have found passion elsewhere

When your work environment no longer satisfies the deepest parts of your personality, it could be an indicator that you have outgrown your job. You joined that company because you loved their company mission, but over the years, you have evolved and the company has, too. This means that the mission may have changed, and your interests may have changed as well.

Conclusion

Of course, you're not the same person today that you were when you began your current job. People change, and so do their goals and desires. Over time, you were likely exposed to new ideas and professions that you didn't know about when you made your career plan. That is, if you made a career plan. New technologies are creating new opportunities that could look more interesting that the one you hold right now, and that could happen a few times during your life.

Some people like boring jobs where there are no surprises, but there is also no personal development for them. That job becomes their comfort zone and they are happy there. However, for most people, career and personal growth are important. And even if you love the company and team, sometimes you have just outgrown the job and it is time to move, and that’s all right.

If you begin to feel that you're more interested in another field, sector, industry, or job than the one you are currently in, that may be the biggest sign of all.

Frankestein08:
The solutions are among several mobile applications looking to the penetrate into Nigeria’s mobile first economy.

At the ongoing technology exhibition and conference going on at the Landmark Event Centre, several technology solutions are on exhibition. Among the solutions are several mobile applications looking to the penetrate into Nigeria’s mobile first economy.

Below are the top 5 apps that made its debut at the tech event:

1. Ask An Expert: This does sound more like a response to a question rather than a name of name. well, this is because the app does just that – provide answers to questions through an expert. Ask An Expert was launched at the Techplus event on July 6 2017 and according to the Project Director, Ask An Expert, Felix Rwang Dung, the platform provides opportunity for people looking to get expert answers to any question troubling their minds.

Through the platforms, you can interact with any expert of your choosing live. Depending on the expert, you may get to pay a token per every 10 mins you interact with the expert. The first ten minutes are free however but you also can find other experts who may be willing to provide you the information you need free of charge.

So, are you still wondering what time of the day that human being grow? Pick up your mobile phone and Ask An Expert.

2. PINS: Its not clear what PINS is an acronym or not but basically PINS helps you to protect your phone from theft. With PINS installed on your smartphone, you can worry less about pickpockets.

Should any thief ‘corner’ your phone, the PINS app takes his picture as he fondles with it so that it can show you the picture of the thief and the exact location he may be with the phone.
PINS also helps you track your SIM card, backup your data on the cloud or wipe it clean if you are unable to track the thief down eventually.

3. REACH: Your take home pay is close to 200, 000 Naira a month. You know it should be enough. But before the month ends, your will be on red. You keep where the money goes.

If that is your story. Reach is here to the rescue. Reach is a mobile solution launched by former Executive of electronic payment J.R Kanu at Konga.com

It is called a Group Savings solution and it basically helps you to track your spending. On board Reach, you don’t have to supply your bank account details, all you need supply are basic info such as your names, phone numbers and date of birth and you are good to go.

The app will track your spending day by day, week by week and month on month, so that you don’t keep wondering if anyone is stealing from you or doing you jazz.

Isn’t this awesome?

4. Maliyo Store: Maliyo has become synonymous with games; those localized themed games that get you hooked to your screen all day. But business of games apart, Maliyo has been unto something bigger. Wait for it guys, Maliyo has an app store. Maliyo has launched an app store for Nigerian app developers to get to the market. So, if you are an app developer, you now have no excuse not to have your app in the market, Maliyo may be the next big thing to happen to Nigeria’s app economy.

5. Bounce News: So you have probably have been reading stories on Bounce without knowing it’s a news app. Well, Bounce News is a news app and is changing the way people get their news delivered to them.

The Bounce News app is a machine learning system that delivers to you only what you want to read.

Once you download the app, you choose your preferences based on interests and the app has the commitment to only deliver those to you.

Let’s say you only like to read stories about celebrities, music, movies and sports. The app will only deliver only stories related to these interests to you, instead of having everything thrown at you.

Isn’t that awesome?

I just discovered my fiancee has been cheating on me. I discovered the chats she had with a married elderly man ,she initially denied it but she confessed after I showed her the evidence i had. We have been dating for six years and we did our intro early this year. We have picked the date of our wedding which is in few weeks time. People have been invited.

Her relationship with this elderly man didn't start now, she made me to understand that it has been going on for years. Now she has been begging me to forgive her and not put her to shame because PEOPLE are already looking forward to our wedding day.

Wedding preparations already in place. Infact preparations already 80% done. I'm really in a state of confusion right now because I don't know if I should go ahead with the wedding out of pity. And I am also scared that if I marry her out of pity, I might not love her the way I should as the thought of her being unfaithful over the years will never leave my head And how am I sure she's not cheating with more than one man?

Pls nairalanders, matured advice needed at this time.
Oga it's God that made you find out in time. You'll blame yourself if you marry her, that's for sure.

Career8 Reasons Leadership Means Selling by effico(op): 3:50pm On Jun 28, 2017
Good afternoon fellow nairalanders, I'm pleased to share this information given by Mr Tomas Kucera, the Vice President, Business Operations at Solarwinds. You can find this info by following his linkedin page: Tomas Kucera. Enjoy and digest as you read.

I was recently presented with an interesting challenge. In a more or less routine process of regular performance evaluation I found myself in strong disagreement with one of my peers about a success of a project. We were looking at the same data, heard the same feedback from the same participants, and still, we came to completely different conclusions. I was responsible for the project and believed it was a success, the other person had only high-level picture and felt it was a failure.

It made me think. Obviously, something was wrong. After considering it carefully, I came to a conclusion that even though the project actually was successful, I still failed as a leader. I underestimated the importance of selling. I even didn’t realize that this peer of mine was someone I needed to sell the idea to.

Leadership is about selling. Daniel Pink, in his book To Sell Is Human, claims that “people are now spending about 40 percent of their time at work engaged in non-sales selling—persuading, influencing, and convincing others in ways that don’t involve anyone making a purchase. Across a range of professions, we are devoting roughly twenty-four minutes of every hour to moving others.” That is a staggering amount of time and effort. And when you are in any management or leadership position you are definitely at the top end of the range. It is your job to persuade, to influence, to convince, to lead, to sell.

Let me first remove any negative connotation about the term “selling” as it related to leadership. You should always be selling stuff to others in effort to help them out, not to help yourself. Selling means asking others to part with some of their resources. It can be money, but not only. In leadership, it is mostly time, effort and attention. Daniel Pink is using a great example of a teacher. He requires the resources of his students. In their case it would be those mentioned above, time, effort, and attention and in return, he is selling them the idea that at the end of the lesson they will be better off because of the things they learn. The same applies to leadership. Selling in that context is not only required, but it is a highly positive endeavor benefiting the leader, the team, and the organization.

Selling a vision

One of the key responsibilities of any leader is to sell a vision. If you want your team to follow, you need to have two things. You need to have a team and you need to tell them where to go and why:

1. To rally the forces – very often you need to marshal significant forces to tackle a project. It might be people reporting to you, but often you need to sell the idea also to others outside the organization so they jump in and help you deliver the project.

2. To show direction – once you have the team to need to sell them the vision of the perfect outcome. Your team needs to have the same understanding as you have on where you are heading and what a successful outcome looks like.

Selling opinions

This one applies not only to leadership but also across the board to pretty much every single conversation you have with other people. If you want to be successful, credible and have an impact, you need to be able to sell opinions:

3. To build credibility – you need to be able to sell two things to build credibility. You need to sell your “technical” expertise, to show that you are an expert on a given topic, or that you at least know what you are talking about, and you need to sell your character. People need to see you as a trustworthy person. When they believe you can be trusted as a person and you know what you are doing, you will be credible.

4. To influence decisions – decisions are done by people who have the power to make those decisions. You can either complain about their bad decisions and feel like a victim, or you can accept the reality and proactively influence the decision before it is made. By selling your opinion to those who have the power to You can either complain about their bad decisions and feel like a victim, or you can accept the reality and proactively influence the decision before it is made. By selling your opinion to those who have the power to decide gives you the next best thing to making the decision yourself. You can influence the decision to get the outcome you want and to feel positive that your voice was heard. You may even feel like it wasn’t your boss who made the decision but that it was “us” who made the decision.

Selling decisions

As opposed to previous point, sometimes you actually have the power to make decisions. However, even in this case you need to keep selling. Only because you make a decision to build a house, it doesn’t mean that a house will be built. You need to sell the decision to others to make it happen:

5. To get buy-in – this is somewhat similar to the first point about selling a vision. The distinction, at least in my mind, is the one of scope and audience. Sometimes you don’t need help of a particular individual so you don’t need to sell the vision but you just need to make sure they don’t stand in your way. Getting their buy-in is enough to make sure they don’t throw roadblocks in your way. You don’t need your neighborhoods to build your house, but you want to make sure they can live with the noise and mess the activity will cause so they don’t create legal obstacles.

6. To sell results – plans are nice, but execution is what matters. You need to be able to get things done and to sell the idea to others that the work indeed is done and everything is great. Too often, we focus so much on the details and the small things that go wrong that we forget to sell and celebrate our successes.

Selling services

Finally, you need to be able to sell your services even within your own company. You need to do it for two good reasons, to sell an image of someone who can lead and get things done, and to sell the idea that people should want to work with or for you:

7. To build image – it first glance it sounds like something that shouldn’t be necessary, but it is. We don’t live in a perfect world where it is obvious to everyone that you are a great leader. Unless you build an image of someone who can lead and get things done, no one will follow you. And what is as well important in case you want to advance your career, if you don’t sell your accomplishments and your ability to achieve even more, you may never get the opportunity to achieve anything.

8. To build relationships – chances are that whatever you do you need cooperation of others. By selling your services to them, you can get their cooperation in return. The best way to build good, long-lasting relationship is to care about others and to give without expecting anything in return. By selling your time, effort, attention, and care of others, you are buying a potential to receive the same in the future when you most need it. The human need to reciprocate is one of the most powerful ways to gain influence.

As you can see, selling is an important part of leadership. In case you are already in a position of power and you feel you don’t need to sell, let me remind you the example from the first paragraph of this article. The reason I failed as a leader was that I thought I don’t need to sell because the data will speak for itself. I felt secure and powerful and that perspective cost me. With little bit more humility and by reducing (at least in my mind) my power I could push myself into a selling mode and show to my peers why the project was a success and why she should buy the idea and adopt the same position. Alfred Fuller allegedly said, “Never argue. To win an argument is to lose a sale.” Luckily, I realized that, and instead of arguing or blaming others, I went back to my job as a leader. I started to sell.
