A good system should have in-built controls to ensure its output meets the required standards. Question: If we succed in eliminating corruption (which is very unrealistic) but retain our current system (policies, procedures, controls and structures), will our education sector suddenly be able to cater for the education needs of the populace? |
The fact that some Nigerians don't even know what "The Nigerian Education System" is, reminds us of the fact that we really have serious problems. @hercules07, check page 1 of this thread and read through my posts. I have done some explaining there. |
Thank you jmaine, maybe people need someone to wake them up from their Buhari dream. It has so be-clouded their thinking that they no longer can see the obvious. No need for double standards. They goofed one way or the other. The whole idea was for us to be able to project four years ahead with their line of thinking. If we want further decline in Education and Infrastructure, we can go ahead and follow the man who has no vision in those areas. |
^^^ The link is not wrong. The video of the debate is available online. |
These clowns should simply ALLOW NIGERIANS TO DECIDE! |
BB can only achieve the following in 4 years:
[li]Witch hunt his rivals, [/li] [li]Strenghten his Sharia stance,[/li] [li]Move us 10 years backwards in terms of infrastructure and the economy.[/li]
The good thing is he WILL NOT win. |
Great write up. Buhari is just a "mirage" created by the mindset of "anything else is better". While we all agree that PDP has not delivered quality service to the populace, we should not make things worse by trying to recycle something out of nothing. We do not need a spent man. If we want change then we should go for all - out change. Food for thought The Pegeout 504 was once Nigeria's most reliable car. We have need of reliable cars today. Does that mean we should go back to the 504 and re-use it? It will fail woefully in a world of navigation systems, reverse cameras, Energy efficient systems, etc. |
Ok let me make it clear for everyone. The education SECTOR runs based on a SYSTEM called The Education System. It comprises the principles, procedures, controls and structures put together to achieve the goal of Educating the Populace. We should bear in mind that every system should be adapted to meet the needs of the target beneficiaries. The system fails when one or more of its parts fails. Honeric and damas have come up with a good list of what the output of a good education system will be. If these are absent, they are indicators that the system has failed. It is our responsibility to identify what the problems are and attack them purposefully. I decided to put this statement under the X-ray for all to see because it sends a very clear message. We all know he didn't have any clear idea on this important subject and in many other issues. Some of the people who watched this debate live also made their remarks simultaneously here on nairaland. Follow the link and see their comments: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-626596.160.html We do not need to decieve ourselves. We need a vibrant, focussed and realistic leader that can make things happen. Not one that will keep pointing fingers at corruption while being oblivious of the real issues. |
Thank you damas11111 for your answer. More answers welcome @Genius100, thank you for your insight. The problem is, just like Buhari, many people have an "inside the fence" view of what the education system is. The system we are talking about should include the policies, controls, procedures and structures. The 6-3-3-4 only represents the structure of a part of the education system. We should expand our view and look at the big picture then we can begin to understand better. |
It is cowardly to keep insulting others simply because they refuse to align with your choice. Face the issues and make your points. ![]() |
^ ^ ^Sane fellow. Quick to insult others but fail to address issues directly. |
Shekarau did. This debate should have made it clear to everyone that BB is NOT the answer. If we are really looking for change, we shouldn't be looking his way at all. The best way to kill a man is to take away hs vision. Talk about a man with no clear vision leading a country. PDP has once again displayed some arrogance. Debates like this help put things in the right perspective. They are not helping the process by being conspicuosly absent. |
@honeric01, Thank you for the answer. More answers welcome. |
Crude Oil:^^^ This is exactly what many people see as the "Nigerian Education System". Perhaps Buhari didn't see beyond the 6-3-3-4 cliche either! The system is beyond those numbers. I will offer my definition of what the system is but before then I will like to throw the question to everyone. What would you define as a good education system? |
@ kobojunkie, I'm still waiting for your answer to my question. I would like to understand your point of view better. ![]() |
Everyone has been pointing fingers at corruption. What an easy excuse for laziness! Has anybody wondered why the telecom sector in Nigeria is thriving despite the heavy corruption. Humans are corrupt everywhere but it should not be an excuse for poor performance. It is like saying the devil is the problem with Nigeria. What are the standards for measuring corruption? The point is we know there is corruption BUT while fighting corruption, we can make policies and implement brilliant strategies to make things work. We should not dump everything on the table of corruption and fold our arms afterwards. |
Ok kobojunkie, let me slow down a little. I will like to ask a few leading questions to help drive home my point: 1. What would you define as a good education system? |
I hope we know that the "Nigerian Education System" is beyond the 6-3-3-4 cliche. It encompases formal and informal education. If our education system had no problems it would have been able to cater for all the almajiris in the north and militants in the south. If there were no problem, how come we have the notorious Boko haram? Any system that cannot cater for the people it is targetted to serve has a problem. It is the duty of our leaders to identify and fix the problem. |
The Nigerian Education System obviously has many problems. There is no use denying the fact. If he cannot identify the problem then he is no where near being capable of solving it. Business people know this: The first step to solving any problem is to IDENTIFY the problem. |
It is obvious Buhari does not have anything special to offer Nigerians. Why must we delude ourselves with a man who can only boast of his ability to flog everybody into place but has no ideas on how to move us forward? Same old story. His type will only establish more EFCCs and EFCDs and our infrastructure and economy will be left to decay under the pretense of 'cleansing the society'. He needs to give us something we can measure him by. can somebody tell me what the standards are for corruption? Where do we define it from. Buhari should have concrete plans for Education, Power, Economy, etc. Bakare was once right, Buhari is of the old and not the new. The debate has opened our eyes to see better. |
During the presidential debate, Kadira asked the Presidential candidates how to improve the educational sector. Buhari's answer came as a huge disappointment to his audience. He said there is nothing wrong with the Nigerian Educational system!!! The video is available online here: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/13401163 Check from 1HR: 25MINS and follow through the answers of the repondents. Enjoy |
Please if you have an online link kindly post it. |
Ever heard this before?: You cannot teach an old dog new tricks |
kennyisaac:Yes, people should not insult him or any other candidate. But bear in mind that the moment he decided to get involved in partisan politics, he put off the cloak of "spiritual immunity" as far as issues concerning the nation is concerned. He is equally subject to scrutiny, criticism and praises just as any other human being contesting in this election. |
The fact is that these two cannot and should not be compared. We cannot place them on the same scale. Once again, corruption is a HUMAN problem while inadequate power is a TECHNO-ECONOMIC problem. We can solve the power problem with our current status in a short time with the right economic policies and strategies. The corruption problem on the other hand will need a strategic, gradual process. Think of it, to solve the corruption problem we will need:
[li]Moral re-education of the populace[/li] [li]Restructuring of the legal system[/li] [li]Overhauling of the law enforcement agencies[/li] [li]Restructuring Contracting policies[/li] [li]etc.[/li]
This will take FOREVER to solve. We should not expect any magician to come and rid the country of corruption. We can only work at it and better CONTROL it. |
Don't be disappointed if ACN joins forces with PDP instead. ![]() Statements like these can quickly change the political equation. |
The man has gained some wisdom from experience however he has to watch his running mate closely. It takes two to tango. Words of wisdom: "It does not always pay to have a golden tongue unless one has the ability to hold it" Paul Johnson |
Food for thought for the BB team: "And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the old skins would burst from the pressure, spilling the wine and ruining the skins. New wine is stored in new wineskins so that both are preserved." |
From the look of things ON GROUND, Buhari may not be able to get up to 15% of votes in any southern state in this election. I cannot think of any state in SW, SS or SE where CPC can get such votes. If you can think of any, kindly name it. |
pmy:Good point. Wole Soyinka for example has clearly shown his good intention for Nigeria with words backed by concrete action. Bakare may have tried to do the same BUT I cannot say for now if he is going about it the right way. But he deserves some commendation for trying. At least he played a key role during the tragic Yaradua era along with Wole Soyinka. |
They have all gathered crowds because in Nigeria, people gather for EVERYTHING. I hope we know CROWD is not equal to VOTES! If it were just by gathering crowds, it is clear that GEJ has gathered more crowds all over the country for obvious reasons including the fact that he is the PRESIDENT! Words of wisdom for the discerning: "In Lagos, not everyone who speaks yoruba language is a yoruba man" "Not everyone who wears a kaftan is a Northerner" |
