Politics / Re: Nigerian Government Patronising Nigerian Products by efoghorjos: 6:56pm On Aug 04, 2010
It's disheartening to see Nigerian government importing TATA buses from India while ANAMCO, Peugeot, Volkswagen, etc have all decayed due to lack of patronization. Our government should wake up and think of ways to create employment for the teeming populace of this nation.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Chelsea To Sign Brazil Midfielder Ramires For £17m by efoghorjos: 3:08am On Aug 04, 2010
The 23-year-old will have a medical at the Premier League club on Wednesday.
It is thought a four-year deal for the right-sided player, who has 16 caps for his country, could be concluded by the end of the week.

Ramires, whose full name is Ramires Santos do Nascimento, was praised by Dunga after strong displays in the opening stage of the World Cup.

If the deal goes through Benfica will have to repay £6m to sports entrepreneur Kia Joorabchian, who part-financed the player's transfer from Cruzeiro to the Portuguese club.
Press Association Sport says that this arrangement would not present any difficulty under the Premier League's third party ownership rules.

Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira said: "Ramires staying at Benfica does not depend solely on us. We have a partner and we must respect the contracts."

If Chelsea play the midfield diamond this season he'll fit in well

Ramires featured throughout Brazil's opening in South Africa, but a booking in the final group game against Portugal ruled him out of his country's quarter-final loss to the Netherlands.
Ramires joined the Brazil set-up in 2009, in time to play in every game of the country's successful defence of their Confederations Cup title.

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has been seeking to bolster the Blues midfield following the departure of Joe Cole, Michael Ballack and the return to Brazil of Deco.

The club complete their pre-season preparations against Hamburg on Wednesday before taking on Manchester United in the Community Shield on Sunday.

Politics / Re: Jonathan Can Contest On One Condition -ibb by efoghorjos: 4:55pm On Aug 02, 2010
PDP is simply a confused party comprising a group of selfish, ambitious and power hungry politicians who would compromise the future, happiness and unity of this nation to achieve their dreams of acquiring political and economic control over the less privilege whose rights have been tactically stripped from them.

No right thinking Nigerian should even dream of voting the self acclaimed 'evil genius'. We don't want anybody to destroy the reformation that has started in this country and take us back to corrupt era.
IBB is evil and must not be allowed to mortgage the future of our youths further. The future of this country belongs to us. We should protect it jealously and not allow any selfish, greedy and wicked leader to drag us back into the stone age.

Sports / U-20 Female Championship: How Nigeria Can Defeat Germany by efoghorjos: 5:58pm On Jul 31, 2010
The final of this year’s FIFA U-20 female championship in Germany comes up on Sunday, 1st of August 2010, between Nigeria and host country Germany. The two countries have worked assiduously to get to this stage, displaying character, tactical discipline and hard work

The host team is arguably the most potent in terms of attacking, having scored about 18 goals in 5 matches (an average of 3.6 goals per match). Their defense is also very tight; they have conceded only two goals in 5 matches. The girls have height advantage and physical fitness going for them.

The Nigerian team is also good in terms of ball control, physical fitness and team work. They have scored 6 goals in 5 matches (an average of 1.2 goals per match) and conceded 4. They are not a high scoring side, but that is not to say they are a push over. On paper the Germans are clearly favoured to win the tournament, but things don’t always happen that way; football is not mathematics.

One way the Nigerians could win this match is to prevent the Germans from dictating the pace of the match; they should try as much as possible to choke up the midfield and cut off ball supply to the German attackers. If the attackers are starved of ball, they won’t be able to cause any damage.

They should also close-mark the European team, leaving them with no room to dribble them and strike. Popp should particularly be prevented from scoring more goals. However, a lot of attention should not be given to Popp alone; otherwise those who are not marked would do a considerable damage.

Sunday Esther should be allowed to combine with Ebere Orji and Oparanozie to mount pressure on the German defense. They would cave in if the pressure is sustained for a long time. The girls should also take their chances and not waste their opportunities: they should be ready to strike at goal from any distance. They should not wait to dribble into the 18 yard box before shooting.

The falconets should also be ready to match their European opponents fitness-for-fitness; they should not be intimidated by the height and build of their opponents. They must also be ready to play their traditional pattern and not allow the Germans to force them to play their fast paced European pattern. If their opponents increase the pace of the game, they should slow them down by holding on to the ball and close marking them.

The German goalie is very tall and agile; the falconets should therefore be ready to follow up any shot fired at the goal and convert any rebound. The goal keeper is liable to errors; therefore they should always get close to her to utilize every opportunity in case she slips. They must also play their corner kicks directly into the yard box and stop passing it at the edge of the line.

What Nigeria needs now is not grammar but a sense of national loyalty, purposeful and directional leadership and technocracy. A concoction of English and Latin will not put foods on our tables.
What is the essence of the grammar if even a university graduate would not understand you. They should be schooled in the institution of simple sentences or simplified communication.

Religion / Why We Must Not Neglect The Power Of The Holy Spirit by efoghorjos: 4:09pm On Jul 30, 2010
“You are completely empty; you need the power of the Holy Spirit to be able to overcome your present predicament”, the Pastor said, as Jonathan remained mute and stared into space. He looked puzzled and continued to stare from one face to the other.

Jonathan was a new convert in one of the Pentecostal churches; he had become enthusiastic about joining the church’s evangelism team. Though he had not been baptized in the Holy Spirit; he felt his enthusiasm and academic knowledge would be enough to make him succeed.

Some members of the team had advised him to seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit, since he could never use human wisdom and academic prowess to convert souls for Christ. He argued that as a young man with a Bachelor’s degree in English Language, he knew the right tenses to apply in preaching the gospel. He felt his oratory would be enough to win the hardest of souls to Christ.

Besides, Jonathan did not even believe in demons and their manipulative powers. He concluded that demons existed in some people’s imagination, and that it was more of illusion than reality.

But on that particular morning, he had gone out for open-air preaching, in company of three other members of the evangelism team. They got to the bus stop where he was to preach; and as soon as he stepped forward and shouted ‘praise the lord’, a young man appeared from nowhere and pointed his finger at him. He lost his voice and became disorientated to persons and time. The members of the team managed to rush him to the church, where the pastor prayed for him before he regained his voice and senses.

So many believers today try to import their intellectualism into the church and feel they could do without the Holy Spirit: they end up committing spiritual blunders, because spiritual assignments are not done by academic knowledge. They require spiritual knowledge and the backing of the Holy Spirit to do them successfully.

Having given your life to Jesus Christ, you need to ask him to fill you with the baptism of the Holy Spirit as he promised (Acts2:38-39). Believe that the gift would be given to you. Give thanks to God because of the assurance that the Holy Spirit’s baptism would be given to you. If you believe and maintain your faith, Jesus will fill you with this power. He has always given to those who believe in him; so he will also give to you because he keeps his word. He knows the challenges that you would face as you go about doing his work; he’s interested to empower you so you would succeed in doing the work he has called you to do.

Sports / Nigeria U-20 Females Beat Columbia 1-0; Qualify For Finals by efoghorjos: 1:13am On Jul 30, 2010
The Nigerian U-20 female team, the falconets defeated their Columbian counterparts 1-0 in the 2nd semi final match played this evening in the ongoing FIFA U-20 female championship in Germany. This feat makes them qualified to play in the final against the host country Germany on Sunday, 1st of August 2010.

The Nigerian girls got their only goal of the match as early as in the 2nd minute of play through a pull out by Joy Jegede, which was pointed by the goal keeper but Ebere Orji smashed the rebound inside the open net. From then onwards the Nigerian girls took complete control of the match, garnering 51% ball possession in the first half against their opponents’ 49%.

Columbia got her first corner kick in the 6th minute but the Nigerian defense line frustrated their efforts. First yellow card of the match went to Amarachi Okoronkwo in the 25th minute for missing a bicycle kick and kicking a Columbian player in the process; Natali Gatia also got a yellow for challenging the referee.

The South American girls got another corner kick in the 26th minute and the Nigerian defense made sure it did not cause them any damage. In the 30th minute, Osinachi Ohale got injured on the nose and was taken outside for medical attention and later returned after the bleeding was stopped.

Must we continue to live in bitterness and rancour as a people? We must learn to do away with ethnicity, sectionalism, nepotism, tribal bigotry or politics of tribal divide. It does this nation no good. I see a bright horizon for this nation if we work together in love and unity.

Sports / Re: Siasia Vows To Make Eagles Formidable by efoghorjos: 5:52pm On Jul 28, 2010
Siasia is capable of achieving success with the Super Eagles. My only fears for him is that Nigeria has no value for Blacks (especially Nigerians) and he might be dropped for a White coach as soon as he qualifies us for the world cup. Shuaibu Amodu twice qualified us for the world cup (2002 and 2010) but got kipped out on the two occasions.
Besides, is Siasia ready to share his salary and allowances? If not, he should not worry himself. The foreign coaches would always be preferred so long as they are willing to part with at least 30% of their pay, and disappear immediately they fail without anybody questioning them.

I think nurses are really funny; they like to play a second fiddle and end up complaining about being marginalized by doctors. I am a registered nurse with over 15 years practical experience; so I know what am talking about.

I set up a website for nurses (http://www.africannursesforum.com) and went about announcing it to all my friends before it was launched; I even opened a page on facebook. But only few nurses saw the need to interact. Today, other people are taking advantage of the forum to advertise their businesses while the nurses remain incommunicado.

I would be glad if those of you here could help to make that forum interactive so we have new hope for the African nurse once again.
