Recovering all these assets from a single individual is at least a good place to start from in our quest to rid the country of corruption. Others should get the signal that corruption is no longer welcome in Nigeria. The so called rich people should not destroy this country for us with their avariciousness. |
Debts should be completely avoided by any entrepreneur who hopes to succeed and make it big in business because they could suffocate your establishment if they are not well managed. They may play a role in helping to revive a dying business; but where possible they should be avoided. One may be tempted to go into borrowing as a way to getting funds to run one’s enterprise. Before doing so, one has to be sure one is able to manage the fund well so as to make profit and pay back the capital and the interest. There are several ways to avoid business debts, some of which include: 1. Don’t borrow to run your business: Borrowing could be dangerous because if your projected profit becomes unrealizable, you are going to run into debt. Taking loans from the banks for example during this period of economic meltdown could spell a doom if the value of your currency continues to depreciate. The profit you would make could be very minimal while the losses accumulate. The depreciation in the value of the currency means you would have to pay more in terms of the interest and capital when the currency suddenly appreciates because the interest rate is fixed. 2. Don’t buy on credit: Buying on credit especially in bulk could also leave you in high debt in time of uncertainty. If you deal on perishable goods for instance, in the event that you are unable to sell all your goods within a short period, they get spoilt and you lose out. The creditor would still collect his money irrespective of whether you were able to dispense of your goods or not. Non-perishable goods could also accumulate debts if the demand for them is reduced. The more it takes to sell the goods the more interest they accumulate if you bought them on credit. 3. Get a good manager: Get a good business manager to take care of your funds. Your manager should be one who has the experience to run your enterprise in such a way as to guarantee you profits. 4. Plan well: Don’t be in a hurry to expand your business; make sure you are firmly established before thinking of setting up new branches. Otherwise the fund available for your use would be used to open up several quasi-branches that eventually end up all being unviable. When that happens, you lose all the money you had used to open the various branches. 5. Regulate your purchases: Make sure you are able to use your available money to buy the most basic needs of your business. Whereby your money is not enough to get all you require, you could also buy fairly used equipment to augment the basic ones; as you make more profit you get them replaced. 6. Sell less on credit: Selling your goods on credit could also leave you in debt as well. By the time you have sold most of your goods on credit and the debtors refuse to pay back on time, you are forced into getting money from banks or other financial institutions in order to continue to run your business. If you wish to continue to run your enterprise without tears and without fears of losing your assets to your creditors, you must avoid being caught in a tight corner. Don’t go for moneys that eventually become difficult for you to pay back. Subscribe to this blog at http://businessnoble..com |
Why did FIFA ban us in the first place when the whites keep pretending to be non-corrupt? We are trying to fight corruption in our football, instead of FIFA to co-operate with us, they banned us. The NFF election was corrupt; states election should have been done before the federal. But the corrupt people hurriedly organized an election to indirectly install their cronies in office. People felt aggrieved and went to court: That was supposed to be the civilized way of seeking justice. So why did FIFA ban us? Are they really interested in the good of our football? That's food for thought for all of us. |
After all, what a man can do, a woman can do better (including fraud). |
Any entrepreneur that intends to succeed in business must put some plans in place right from the very beginning, since planning is the foundation upon which to build the business. Failing to plan invariably means planning to fail, as success would not come when there are no laid down charts as to what should be done, how to do it, when to do it and where to start from. It is always necessary to plan as it makes one have a focus as to what are needed to run the business – the man power, capital, raw materials, means of promoting the business, expansion, development, research, alternative sources of revenue and what to do in case of failure. It is important to determine the number of personnel needed for the business so as to know how much would be needed to pay their salaries and avoid the issues of owing backlog of salaries. Your business could be crippled very fast if you start owing staff salaries so early. You also need to plan what your capital can take; there should be priority and opportunity cost. If your available capital cannot take care of everything you intend to do, it becomes necessary to plan in order to know what to shed and what has to be handled first. It is also important to know where to get an alternative source of capital for expansion should you run out of capital. If this is not planned from the beginning, the business is likely to get to the point where going forward might be difficult. It is likely to collapse if help does not come immediately: it is therefore important to plan for the raining day. It is also important to think of a means of promoting the business – what kind of advertisement would be adopted (offline or online)? How much would be available for advertisement? This would enable you know the strategies to adopt in terms of promotion. It would determine whether you go for the relatively cheap but less effective method, or for the expensive and very effective method. Planning would also enable you know how soon to expand and what it would take to do so. It would help you know how much you need to save monthly in order to meet your expansion target within a specified period of time. It also enables you know what exactly to do in case your business fails or when your alternative sources fail to provide the needed succour. This means you should have a ‘plan B’ in case the ‘plan A’ fails. Having such alternatives reduces shock in time of failure. Subscribe to this blog at http://smallbiztricks..com |
Businesses fail every now and then; either as a result of negligence on the part of management or on the part of employees, or both on what should be done. Usually when the vital ingredients that are supposed to make a business successful are neglected, it eventually fails. However, businesses don’t just fail overnight; before they do, they present with certain signs that should suggest they are about to do so. Some of those signs presented include: 1. Employees are no longer enthusiastic about your business: Your employees are the lifeblood of your business; and the enthusiasm they show toward your establishment determines the level of success you should expect. When all is well, they are willing to do everything to make you succeed; they are passionate about their jobs and they are ready to tell anyone that they come in contact with the good stories concerning their business. But when they stop being passionate and are no longer interested to talk good/positive stories about their establishment, it is an omen that your business is beginning to fail. How do you change this? One way to reverse this ugly trend is to motivate your employees. Let them know how well the company is doing and also let them know that customers and management think they are doing very well too. Learn to praise them if they are doing well. Minimize the tendency to be over strict when it comes to applying disciplinary measures. 2. Employees are not duly rewarded: Excellence, innovation and discipline are not duly rewarded. Workers are aware there is no reward for better performance and are therefore not willing to do better. When workers are not duly rewarded for their efforts, it is a sign of a failing business. Advice: Take note of employees that are doing remarkably well and reward them so as to make others want to do better. Reward little things as punctuality, regularity to work, excellent performance, safety compliance, etc. Workers should see reasons why they have to do well. 3. Initiatives are not easily welcome by management: Another sign of a failing business is when management see themselves as ‘master-know-it-all’ and refuse to welcome any form of initiatives by the employees. The employees do not usually have any sense of belonging. They don’t see reasons why they should put in their best since their ideas are irrelevant and not usually accepted by management. The way out? Have personal interactions with the employees; allow them to make their observations and also bring up new ideas. If possible, have a suggestion box for them to air their opinions as to what they think could help the business. When certain ideas proposed by employees are implemented, they should be informed about it. This would make them feel they are relevant in the scheme of things. When they are aware their opinions count, they are willing to put in their very best. To subscribe to my blog, visit http://smallbiztricks..com |
Pregnancy could be a very challenging moment for a woman especially if it her first or multiple. The stress could so much that she may find it very difficult to cope only; she therefore needs the support of her husband to be able to face the challenges that would be present. However, there are several ways the man could assist his wife to cope with the stress that could come with her pregnancy. When the man stands by his pregnant wife, she is strengthened and encouraged to take on the challenges as they come. Some of the ways the man could help his wife include but are not limited to the following: 1. Feeding: Some pregnancies could come with the challenge of vomiting. In this case the man needs to assist his wife to get nourished if she is not admitted in hospital. He needs to help her get up gradually from the bed on waking up. He has to also find out the kind of food his wife could tolerate and be sure they are available when she feels like eating. He could help prepare tea and crackers for her, because they are usually well tolerated. He could also give her easily digestible food to make sure she is not starved. 2. Domestic chores: The man could as well help in domestic chores especially as the size of her uterus increases and she is no longer able to bend down to carry out her normal chores. 3. Care of older children: The man could help prepare the older children for school because the woman at this time is slower and finds it strenuous to prepare her children for school. Apart from school, he should ensure the older children eat their three square meals, take their baths at least twice daily; and also assist them to take care of their home works. 4. Understanding: The man should show his wife understanding when it comes to her periodic emotional outbursts. He should be ready to tolerate her and avoid compounding her problems and frustrations. 5. Personal hygiene: He should assist his pregnant wife with her bathing, washing, etc. as it is usually difficult for her to squat to bath herself. She could be lazy at this time and might want to skip her bath occasionally. Washing of her clothes and undies could be tedious as well. The man should ensure these are taken care of. 6. Urination: There could be frequency of urination due to irritation of the bladder or as a result of the pressure on the bladder. The man could also help by providing a urinal for her to frequently empty her bladder. He could as well help to discard the urine when the need arises. 7. Exercise: Exercise is usually recommended for a pregnant woman to help improve her physical fitness as she prepares for delivery. The man could help to be faithful in carrying her routine physical exercises. He could have a scheduled period of walk with her or join her in some mild aerobics to make it interesting for her to comply to. 8. Antenatal care: He could also help her to remember to keep her antenatal appointments by ensuring she does not forget her appointment dates. 9. Sex: The man should be willing to show her understanding when it comes to sex. He should be gentler with her, avoiding deeper penetration as this could be harmful to the baby. He should allow the woman adopt the position best suitable for her during sex. They could use the ‘side-by-side’ position or the ‘woman-on-top’ as she controls the level of penetration. 10. Driving: The man should also help drop the wife at school or work place; he should ensure the woman does not drive herself as this could be very dangerous for her and the foetus. If he cannot do it because of his tight schedules, he should get a driver to do it for her until she puts to bed and is able to do it herself again. Americans and indeed the whole world watched with keen interest as Barak Obama and Hilary Clinton tried frantically to emerge as the Democratic Party’s flag bearer in the 2008 presidential election. The popularity of the two candidates was put to the test; it was a time for Americans to choose between two choices that were both challenging and record-creating. First, one of the choices would lead to the emergence of the first African-American president (Black president), and the second choice would lead to the emergence of their first female president. Either of the two candidates was almost sure of getting into the White House because the Republican Party was fast losing its popularity as a result of the circumstances of the time. Obama eventually got the better vote because he was no doubt the more popular of the two candidates. He became a history-maker, as he became the first Black to rule the country after over 200 years of independence. Everywhere one went then, one was greeted with Obamamania – Obama ‘T’ shirts, fez caps, belts, trousers, key holders, notebooks, balloons, wrist watches, eye glasses, car stickers, etc. But the enthusiasm that greeted his election and eventual swearing-in as America’s 44th president began to die down sooner than later. He began to lose his rating and popularity clearly because of some controversial and hasty decisions that he made. When these mistakes were repeated from time to time and in different areas, Americans and indeed the world began to have a rethink; and started to nurse the fear that all that glitters may after all not be gold. What has reduced his popularity? Some of the decisions President Barak Obama made that have seen his popularity nose dive include: 1. Discrimination against Nigeria: On assumption of office, the president made his first official familiarization visit to the continent of Africa, his root. He accorded respect and recognition to countries like Ghana, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, etc by paying them a visit: but he shunned Africa’s most populous and most influential nation, Nigeria, and treated her like a leper. Nigeria may be having her own challenges and going through her wilderness experience; one thing remains very clear, she is clearly the most influential voice in the continent – ask the UN Security Council, ECOMOG, Common Wealth of Nations, AU, FIFA, CAF, etc and they would tell you the undiluted truth. She remains Africa’s biggest philanthropist, defender of the smaller countries, and the Sub region’s leader. 2. HealthCare Reform Bill: The healthcare reform bill became the first litmus test that his government was subjected to. His reform bill was greeted with criticism and suspicion by both the Republicans and some Democrats. The bill eventually got passed into law; but so many people had lost their faith in him as they could not be convinced the bill meant well for the poor masses. 3. Bail-out loans for Chrysler: The effect of the world economic recession was so biting that Chrysler Motors had to request for some bail-out loans from the government to enable them save thousands of jobs for their employees. This was handled with levity; and today, we all know the outcome of government’s refusal to come to the aid of the auto company. 4. War in Afghanistan and Iraq: This was one of the reasons Americans refused to vote for the Republicans: a lot of soldiers were losing their precious lives in these countries. So, they hoped the new president would stop this trend by withdrawing their children, brothers, husbands and fathers from these wars that had consumed much of their resources. However, today, the country has lost over 4,000 military personnel in these countries, and they continue to lose their able-bodied soldiers daily. This continual loss of their dear ones has made the people to lose their hope in the government. 5. Resignation of key ministers: Since this administration came into power, some ministers and some other persons appointed into key positions have voluntarily resigned from office. Why? I leave that to you to guess. Recently the defense minister, Robert Gates announced he’s going to resign from the government in 2011. This decision was said to have shocked the president beyond words. 6. Listing Nigeria as a terrorist country: A young Nigerian who never grew up in Nigeria and never understood the cultural values of his people, made an attempt to bomb an American airline on 25th December 2009; a move which was vehemently condemned by all Nigerians. Surprisingly, President Barak Obama immediately placed Nigeria on the terror watch list. This was at a time Nigeria needed understanding from the International Community because her president was on a sick bed in Saudi Arabia. That decision further reduced the respect that Nigerians, nay, Africans had for the American president. Just post a thread that doesn't go down well with certain persons and you see the way they react to your thread by calling you all sorts of derogatory names. Some even go as far as insulting your parents; they take things so personal, forgetting that this is supposed to be a social media where people discuss freely and accommodate others' opinions. Iran finally started to load uranium fuel to the site of its nuclear reactor plant sited in Bushehr on Saturday, 21st August, 2010. The plant is said to be a peaceful project expected to help the country generate 1,000MW of electricity in the next one year, and 20,000MW by 2025. The country also claims it is a major boost in their quest for industrialization. The Bushehr Nuclear plant was started by the Germans years ago, but following outright condemnation from several countries, including the United States, it was abandoned. It was then taken over by Russia in 1995; and it’s being completed this year after some setbacks including the German withdrawal and the Iraqi-Iranian war prevented the initial completion time of 1999 from being realistic. Iran has declared that the programme is a peaceful one, and that the plant would be loaded with Uranium fuel. It is also expected to start generating its first electricity in the next one or two months. The fuel for the plant’s operation is being lifted to the area under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). However, as the country struggles to convince the international community that its Nuclear facility is for a civilian purpose, it went ahead to successfully test-fire new surface-to-surface missiles; making one to question how peaceful this programme really is. The United States has always condemned Iran’s desire to develop a nuclear plant. Nevertheless, there have been some concerns that the same US is negotiating with Vietnam to enable the latter build a nuclear facility. The American Secretary of states, Hilary Clinton was said to have gone to Vietnam recently for that purpose. Now the question is who is really deceiving who? How could the US be condemning one country for trying to build a nuclear site and at the same time they are aiding another one to do same? Why would the Group of 8 and the EU think of applying sanctions against Iran, but Russia which helped to complete the project is a member of the G6 and the EU? Is there really a concern for the safety of the world’s populace or there is a concern for how much money could be made from these controversial programmes? How do we prevent more frictions? It is clear that the G6 does not speak with one voice; if America condemns a programme or policy, the same programme would be supported either by Russia or by France, and vice versa. To prevent these security threats from coming up from time to time, the following should be done: 1. Speaking with one voice: The constitution or whatever rules that govern the G8, EU, The UN Security Council, etc should be reviewed so as to make all members speak with one voice on every matter brought before them. It is paramount that when a case is presented before the Group of 8, if it is not conclusively or unanimously resolved, no member should go behind to support such programme. For instance, if Russia hopes to carry out a project for a country, it should be free to negotiate with the country; thereafter, it should present it before the G8 and make sure every member accepts it before going ahead to execute it. It should also be made clear that once a member of the G8 has negotiated with that country, and the project fails to be approved, no other member of the body should be allowed to renegotiate with the country or execute the same project. In the event that the problem is later resolved, the country which initially negotiated the project should be the one to execute it. This would help to prevent in-house betrayals. 2. Sanction: Should any member of the G8 go ahead to execute a project that was not resolved amicably, the others should impose sanctions against her. This would also reduce the impunity with which members are executing projects against the decision of the body. 3. Strict Monitoring: Countries with uranium and other resources which are capable of causing security threats should be strictly monitored to ensure that these products are not sold to the wrong people. The moment it is established that there is any form of negotiation to acquire these resources without the approval of the Security arm of the UN or the G8, such countries should be cautioned immediately or sanctions should be applied when necessary. They should not wait until after the programmes are ready for use before contemplating sanctions. 4. Co-operation: All countries should co-operate with the UN Security Council, The Group of 8, EU, AU, etc to make any sanction imposed on a country to be effective. When there are countries doing business with a sanctioned country, the purpose of the sanction would not be achieved. Efoghor Joseph writes from http://politicalfield..com. Congrats Osaze! The most important thing now is for him to get focused and distinguish himself; he may not stay too long in West Bromwich Albion. Other clubs could spot him and snatch him out of West Brom. He is not finished as some are wont to believe. |
Who do you think is more beautiful between Omotola Jolade Ekeinde and Stella Damasus Aboderin? |
What do we think is wrong? Why is everybody against Nigerians? We are not helping matters ourselves; our media publish all kinds of negative reports about the country. Our youths are in a hurry to make it quick. Think of the number of Nigerians deported from UK, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Libya, South Africa, USA, etc for one offence or the other and you would understand why the hostility. The Solution? We should all as youths of this noble country begin to think of making it the reputable way; we should remember the ideals of our fathers who fought for the independence of this nation. We should begin to value hard work, stop pushing drugs, stop kidnapping, cheating, fraud, etc, and sooner, South Africans, Britons, Americans, Ghanaians, Libyans, etc would beg to come to Nigeria. We have a great and bright future; all we need do is put our trust in God and work harder as a people. http://politicalfield..com |
I am personally enjoying etisalat. The #15 to every network is not a ruse. They even give you free MMS and free SMS to your cliq. Occasionally they give you 3MB free browsing (they have given me twice now when I have not spent up to #3000 recharging). They even gave me 60 seconds national call airtime and another 18 seconds after that. They only collect #10 from your account daily, which is still far more better than paying about #48 to call other networks. Apart from glo, etisalat is another network that has come to free Nigerians from the exploitative hands of MTN. Very soon I think a lot of people would abandon MTN for those who have their interest at heart. |
Chelsea this afternoon began her premiership title defense on a bright note by beating newly promoted West Bromwich Albion by 6-0, in a match that could best be described as one-sided game. Thus, the defending champions have sent a warning to other clubs, of their preparedness to defend the title which they won last season. The defending champions lost their three pre-season friendly matches, and also lost to Manchester United on Sunday, 8th August 2010, the Community Shield they won last year. A lot of soccer pundits had wondered if the Blues stood any chance of doing well this season. Today’s match has proven that Chelsea is back with a new spirit and has shaken off her pre-season woeful performances and is ready to face business. It took the defending champions only 6 minutes to draw the first blood. Didier Drogba took a free kick from outside the 18 yard box, but Florent Malouda was fast enough to beat the West Bromwich’s goal keeper to the ball and neatly converted the ball into the net. In the 11th minute, Dorrans’ hot shot was parried by Petr Cech for a corner kick. The West Bromwich players got another corner kick barely three minutes after that, but it was wasted. In the 19th minute, West Bromwich Albion’s goal was cancelled because the assistant referee’s flag had gone up for an offside before the shot was taken. Chelsea completely took over the field of play, mesmerizing the spectators with their fantastic display, dribbling skills, ball possession, shots, etc. The Blues got their first corner kick in the 35th minute, but its impact was not felt. But in the 40th minute, Frank Lampard’s free kick was parried by the Visiting goal keeper; the rebound was nodded over the bar by Florent malouda. Didier Drogba’ free kick in the 45th minute beat the goal keeper hands down to increase Chelsea’s goal tally to 2. The first half ended 2-0 in favour of the host, who were superior in all aspects of the game. In the 55th minute, Chelsea got a corner kick which was taken by Florent malouda. A goal mouth scramble ensued; and it was Drogba who finally had the final laugh as he pushed the ball past West Bromwich Albion’s defenders for his second goal and the third for his side. The newly promoted team tried to fight back, but the hosts were far too strong for them. Paulo Ferreira got replaced with Ivanovic in the 60th minute. In the 63rd minute, Frank Lampard cleverly collected Ashley Cole’s pass, shooting it beyond the goal keeper’s reach for Chelsea’s 4th goal. Yossi Benayoun replaced Frank Lampard in the 64th minute. In the 68th minute however, Drogba’s terrific shot from outside the 18 yard box got him a hat trick and the 5th goal for his side. It became very clear that the visitors had lost the game, and also by a wide margin. Gilles Barnes replaced Jerome Thomas in the 84th minute. The visitors also got a corner kick in the 87th minute but it just couldn’t change anything. Florent Malouda finally wrapped up victory for the defending champions in the 90th minute, to make sure the Blues collected the three points at stake. Chelsea now sits at the top of the premiership table with 3 points and 6 goals. Didier Drogba’s hat trick now makes him the leading goal scorer just after a match. He was the highest goal scorer last season, with 29 goals. http://jossy-chelsea-fans..com |

Iranian navy has taken delivery of four new home-built submarines which are said to be in the home-produced Ghadir class. The vessels are to be positioned in the Persian Gulf, to help give some territorial protection to the country. Iran already has some vessels patrolling its territorial waters – notably three Russian-built Kilo class diesel submarines which it acquired in the1990s, an Iranian built light submarine weighing about 500 tonnes (launched in 2006) and a Nahang. The navy first launched seven sub of this category in 2007, and started building “Qaem” in 2008, which according to the country’s army chief, Ataollah Salehi, would be capable of operating in the high sea. The new vessel is said to be capable of firing torpedo and missiles. The vessel has been described as stealth submarine and hardly detectable by sonar; it would be used for coastal operations especially in the shallow waters within the Gulf of Aden. The country is already offering to give assistance to Lebanon and Syria. With tensions already high in the Middle East, offering to give assistance to Lebanon and Syria that are known to be aggressive toward Israel would make one ask if Iran does not have Israel in mind before going ahead to increase her naval presence in the Gulf. Caution should be applied in handling the Iranian issue as it may worsen the already volatile situation in the Middle East. The country has of recent been talking tough on her desire to build a nuclear station; though the world has tried to dissuade her from going ahead with the plan, she is yet to soft pedal. So launching four submarines at this critical time means the country is up to something. The world should therefore be careful the way it handles the case, especially now that America is thinking of carrying out some military exercise with South Korea. North Korea is already frowning at the plan: they have never hidden their hostility towards America. It would be recalled that North Korea started in a similar manner by fortifying their military, building and refurbishing missiles which they hoped would reach America from Pyongyang. They went ahead eventually to declare they had finally developed nuclear weapon. Today, everyone living around North Korea – Japan, South Korea, China, etc now lives in palpable fears. I still believe that sanctions would not achieve the desired result; the only way to take care of some of these aggressions is go to the dialogue table. The people should be made to see reasons why they should respect the United Nations’ Non-Nuclear proliferation treaty. Besides, smaller countries should be reassured of their safety and security. America should reduce their Bossy attitude because it is making smaller countries to feel vulnerable; hence they are doing everything possible to create defense for themselves in case of external aggresion. When America learns to meddle less in other countries’ affairs, they would feel more relaxed and stop thinking of defending themselves at all cost. The Arab league should prevail on Iran to shelve its plan to build a nuclear plant. They should realize that Israel would not be the only country to suffer the long term effect; other fellow Arab nations may be at the receiving end when the time comes. After all, Iraq and Iran fought for several years irrespective of the fact they’re both Islamic nations. Iraq also invaded Kuwait, a fellow Islamic country prior to the full-blown Gulf war. So there is no guarantee that Israel would be the only target of the nuclear attack in future; if Israel fails to provoke them, another fellow Islamic country may provoke them into using it. Chelsea and Manchester United are currently slugging it out in the Community shield match. Scores so far is 1-2 in favour of manchester United, courtesy of Valencia's 41st minute goal and Chicharito's 76th minute goal. Salomon Kalou pulled one back for Chelsea in the 83rd minute. Berbatov finally made sure Chelsea did not retain the trophy they won last year by adding the third goal in the 2nd minute of the three minutes added time. http://jossy-chelsea-fans..com |
The Falconets are finally back in Nigeria after their impressive performance at the just concluded FIFA U-20 female championship in Germany. The Nigerian team came second behind the host team which emerged eventual winners. The team was received back in the country on Tuesday 3rd August 2010 by Nigeria’s first lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan. The team was hosted to a warm reception and dinner during which the first lady announced the award of scholarships to all members of the team up to the university level. Some people felt the government would have done better by giving them monetary rewards or by buying shares for them in companies like the Lagos state government did for the U-17 team which conquered the world in South Korea in 2007. In as much as I do not disagree with the people’s opinion, I wish to say that the government has done remarkably well by awarding scholarships to the ladies; but what is still needed is that the government should add some monies to this to make the girls fully empowered. We should remember that while in school, they need to feed themselves and take care of miscellaneous expenses. We should also not forget that it is very expensive, to take care of girls than boys because of their numerous needs. However, giving these girls a scholarship would ensure they have something to fall back on, should their football career dwindle or should they have any permanent disability while playing football. Education would make them come out of the shackles of ignorance and become much more relevant in the country’s scheme of things. When they are educated, they would be able to manage wealth and they would be employable. They could become administrators, governors, lecturers, ministers, presidents, etc. George Opong Weah has gone back to school because of the political challenge he got from Mrs. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf during his bid to become the president of Liberia. Despite his popularity as former African, European and world footballer of the year, he lost the election to a woman because of his poor educational background. So awarding scholarships to the Falconets is a step in the right direction. Football should not be synonymous with illiteracy anymore; it should be a place for professionals like Doctors, Engineers, Nurses, Accountants, Surveyors, etc. Education would earn them more respect and value, and also create a future for them. Nevertheless, a little more incentives should be added to it to make their classroom experiences more enjoyable. They should be able to study under a comfortable environment and feel relaxed to enjoy the dividends of the scholarship. Efoghor Joseph Ezie writes from http://efoghorsportsarena..com. Adams Oshiomole of the Action Congress (AC) and governor of Edo State in Nigeria has proven by his leadership style that there is still hope for our country. The former president of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) became governor of Edo State when the average masses had given up hope of experiencing good and purposeful governance. The South-South State was passing through a state of infrastructural, educational and political decay when the visionary governor regained his mandate that was hitherto stolen by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Since he took over the mantle of leadership, the rate of rural and urban development has sky-rocketed. He has opened all blocked drainages, electrified rural communities, dualized the urban roads in Benin City, and rehabilitated several primary and post primary schools in the state. Power supply is now fairly stable in the state; the small and medium scale industries are now enjoying a boom. Erosion menace in the state has now been put under control (though there are still places that require government urgent attention). The citizens of the state have now been spurred into paying their taxes regularly by the level of infrastructural rehabilitation in the state. Adams Oshiomole announced recently that the state’s internally generated revenue has increased to N1b from N300m monthly since he assumed office. One impressive side of his leadership is that he is accountable to the electorate. He informs the person of how much that comes into the state and how it is spent. He has carried everybody along; making sure he sites project in both the state capital and other local government areas. Recently, a member of the House of Representatives, and a staunch member of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon defected from the PDP to the Action Congress (AC) and told the public the reason he defected was because of the developmental strides the state now enjoyed under Chief Adams Oshiomole. He said he needed to join hands with the action governor to move the state forwards. This is the same state that Chief Lucky Nosa Igbinedion governed for eight uninterrupted years and he looted the treasury of the state; Infrastructural became decayed, Civil Servants were sacked in their thousands, state roads became impassable and the state was in perpetual darkness. Today, the average masses in Edo State are singing praises of the incumbent governor; business is booming, the taps are running, port holes have disappeared from the roads, the state is illuminated constantly and nobody is harassed by touts anymore. Adams Oshiomole is truly a visionary and purposeful leader who has the interest of the citizenry at heart. Efoghor Joseph Ezie writes from http://politicalfield..com |
