European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Chelsea Fails To Shine Against Liverpool At Anfield by efoghorjos: 10:35pm On Nov 07, 2010
Chelsea’s quest to win the premiership title back to back suffered a setback this afternoon as they lost by 2-0 to rejuvenated Liverpool FC. Two first half goals by Fernando Torres were all the Anfield side needed to claim victory in the highly charged match.

Many soccer pundits had expected the Stamford Bridge boys to triumph especially following their current form in the UEFA Champions’ League. Liverpool on the other hand had picked up form recently after a disappointing start this season.

The Blues started the match without Didier Drogba and their midfield talisman, Michael Essien who was nursing an injury. So it was almost certain from the outset that they were going to lose the match.

Liverpool playing a 4-5-1 formation made sure Chelsea did not have enough space to operate in the midfield. They took control of the midfield right from the beginning of the match and took the two golden opportunities that came their way.

Chelsea had a free kick in the 3rd minute of the first half; it was taken by Florent Malouda but was poorly utilized. Liverpool on the other hand got their first free kick in the 5th minute. It was taken by Stephen Gerard but was nodded away by John Obi Mikel.

The Blues mounted some pressure on Liverpool as they tried to get an opener. Surprisingly however, it was the boys from Anfield that got the curtain raiser in the 11th minute courtesy of Fernando Torres who connected a cross from Kuyt to beat goal keeper Petr Cech.

The 20th minute saw Zhirkov getting the first yellow card of the day for fouling Lucas. Stephen Gerard was fouled in the 23rd minute by Ramires, though the resultant free kick did not produce any anxious moment.

In the 28th minute, John Terry’s pull out hit Zhirkov on the arm in the 18 yard box but the referee overlook and refused to award a penalty against the expectations of Liverpool players.

In the 44th minute, Liverpool went on a counter attack after Ramires tripped in the midfield; Fernando Torres successfully displaced the Chelsea defense line and placed the ball behind a confused Petr Cech for their second and final goal.

In 45th minute, Nicolas Anelka lost the opportunity to pull one back for his side. All efforts by the Blues to change the tide of the game proved abortive as Liverpool’s defense line refused to succumb to pressure.

Second half saw Coach Carlo making vital substitutions in a frantic effort to rescue the situation, but it was too late. Didier Drogba was introduced in the 46th minute; Bosingwa replaced Ivanovic in the 70th minute, while Daniel Sturridge replaced Zhirkov in the 75th minute.

Jonjo Shelvey replaced Kuyt in the 84th minute while David Ngog replaced Fernando Torres in the 87th minute. Liverpool was able to successfully defend the two goals till the end of the match.

Chelsea is now only 2 points clear of Manchester United who won their match against Wolves by 2-1 earlier on Saturday. They still remain 5 points clear of Arsenal who lost their match by 1-0 against Newcastle at the Emirates.

Our security is in the hands of God. The Police has nothing to offer to Nigerians. The difference between the Nigerian policemen and Armed Robbers is only the uniform. Otherwise, they use the same force to take your money from you, they both rob at gun point, etc.

The question we should be asking ourselves is , Who is the thief and who is the police in this country?

Just being curious anyway. Do you think it has got anything to do with the coaching crew or what?

Does MTN really have anything good for Nigerians? As far as I am concerned, MTN is the the most stingy service provider in this country. They think only of their profits. They told us per second billing was not possible; they also told us it was impossible to reduce tariff. Today we all know the truth. MTN remains the only major provider still exploiting us. Let's just wait and see what they have in stock for us.
Food / Re: Whale In Lagos(with Pics) by efoghorjos: 3:58am On Nov 06, 2010
Is anyone surprised? You shouldn't be because that's exactly the way our leaders want it. That is the reason our financial institutions have been plundered, our educational institutions reduced to mere caricature classrooms, and graduates are roaming the streets.

After over 50 years of oil exploration this is what we have to showcase to the world- poverty, institutional failures, armed robbery, ritual killings, political assassinations, certificate forgery, constant power failure, absence of potable water, lack of good roads, poorly equipped hospitals, etc.

If only our leaders would remember what is called SHAME and think of ways of bringing this country back on track. Our people are really hungry and impoverished. May God have mercy on us all.

This is one of the reasons our present generation should shove sentiments aside and think of enthroning purposeful leadership for this nation.

3.   Trust: Waiting patiently without defiling yourself would make your partner trust you to the point of staking his life to vouch for your faithfulness. He would never have any reason to suspect you even though he travels for business or other engagements, he is sure you would never mess yourself up. This is because he is able to trust you and believe you would always maintain your personal principles just the way you did before he met you. The same applies for a man who marries his wife without first having canal knowledge of other women.

Family / Saving Yourself For Marriage - Reasons To Wait Until Your Wedding Nighf by efoghorjos: 1:16pm On Nov 02, 2010
Marriage is a lifelong affair that should not be started on the wrong footing or shaky foundation; otherwise those involved would regret for the rest of their lives. There is need to get things right and start the relationship in such a way that it would last long and stand the test of time.

There are several reasons why you should save yourself for marriage and wait patiently until the wedding night. The night should be a time of discovery and presentation of the golden gift by one partner to the other.

Some of the reasons to wait until the wedding night therefore include the following:
1. Proper foundation: Marriage is expected to be built on a solid foundation; especially that which is supported by God. Keeping yourself therefore helps to lay such foundation that is devoid of sin. Hebrews 13:4 says that “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge” KJV.

Abstaining from all forms of sexual sins before the marriage would help to prevent God’s judgment and preserve the sanctity of the institution. When the relationship is backed by God from the outset, it would be difficult for divorce to come up later.

2. Surprise: Keep the valuable gift for your partner and let him be surprised to discover you are still a virgin. You can imagine the unspeakable joy this would bring to your partner, and the respect he would in turn give to you. It is rare to find mature ladies that are still virgins: it would therefore be the gift of the century if you present it to him on the wedding night. He would live to remember it always.

4. Clear conscience: It brings a clear conscience; you would not have anything to hide. There are usually no past records of secret affairs, unwanted pregnancies, out-of-wedlock babies, etc to hide form your partner.

5. Prevents diseases: It helps you to come into the relationship free of any kind of sexually transmitted disease. A disease-free marriage would save you the heartache of running from one hospital to the other in search of cure for an STD.

6. Prevents guilt: One big problem couples are struggling with today is the presence of guilt resulting from their premarital sex. But this guilt feeling would be avoided if you are able to save yourself and wait for the wedding night as the best time to have sex for the first time.

7. Newness: Discovering yourselves for the first time on your wedding night would be such a beautiful experience; especially after waiting patiently to unveil the hidden treasure. There would be nothing new to discover if you had had it with him before the night. The excitement would be greater if you are discovering yourselves for the first time than when you have already seen everything and drunken from the cistern before it is officially presented to you.

There is beauty in waiting; it increases your worth in the eyes of your partner. It makes you a woman of honour and dignity. Why don’t you patiently wait until your wedding night and surprise him with the gift of your virginity?

Family / How To Prevent Divorce - Things You Should Establish In Early Marriage by efoghorjos: 5:31am On Nov 02, 2010
Divorce is one big problem that has bedeviled the institution of marriage that needs to be prevented by all means if God’s plan for the family is to be realized. It has to be fought with every available weapon because of the negative effects it has on the children and society.

Preventing divorce means giving the marriage institution more hope. It gives the children and their parents the opportunity to live together as one united body for life. It also saves society from those problems created by children from broken homes.

How can it be done?
You need to establish certain principles that should govern your marriage right from inception. Once these principles are established, the stakeholders must be willing to abide by them.

1. God’s leadership: You need to define the leader of the family. God should be established as the head of the relationship; the spouses must be ready to obey his leadership and live according to his principles. When this is done, divorce would successfully be prevented.

2. God’s word: You also need to establish the word of God as your guide. Working according to and living by the word of God makes it easier to know what is required of you; it also lets you know God’s position on divorce.

3. Truthfulness: One other thing that would help you prevent divorce is truthfulness and transparency. When you are honest to your spouse, he/she learns to trust you. Your spouse gets to understand that whatever you tell him/her is correct. This helps to keep the relationship intact and stronger.

4. Define your roles: Each person’s role should be clearly defined from the outset. This helps to prevent constant friction or disagreements. The lesser the frictions the lesser the threat or possibility of separation.

5. Mutual respect: The marriage should be founded on the principle of mutual respect for each other. Each partner should make sure the rights of the next person are not intentionally violated. This also helps to reduce the incidence of grumbling/complaints.

6. Communication: The line of communication must be kept open and each person should be accessible by the other. Communication makes it easier to know when one is hurt and what to do to pacify the offended person. It helps to prevent little things from escalating to major problems that would eventually threaten the relationship.

7. Likes and Dislikes: Individual likes and dislikes should be made known to each other right from the beginning; these must be respected by one another to prevent conflicts from breaking out from time to time.

8. Finance: How the family finance or budget is to be handled must also be spelt out from the beginning. Disagreements bordering on issues of finance can easily tear the family apart; so it must be avoided by respecting the financial agreement reached from the outset.

9. Children: The number of children to have must also be defined early enough. No partner would mount pressure when the number is reached, irrespective of the sexes of the children. This issue is easily handled if the couple decide from the beginning what they want, without anyone feeling cheated or robbed. The couple should be willing to accept whatever God gives out to them in good fate.

When decisions are collectively made and respected, the problem of divorce would be prevented right from the inception of the marriage. The couples would be able to live together peacefully and happily.

Sports / Re: Who Is The Most Qualified Coach Between Stephen Keshi And Samson Siasia? by efoghorjos: 8:53am On Nov 01, 2010
Both coaches, no doubt, are very experienced. But I think one thing our national teams lack is motivation and team spirit. In that area, Siasia has an edge over any other coach in Nigeria. You should think of the spirit with which the U-20 team played in the Netherlands and the way the Olympic team also played in China.

We have the players with skills quite alright but the main reason we are losing matches to countries like Cameroon, Cote d'ivoire, Ghana, Argentina, etc is because they are more forceful and motivated. Only one coach can do that for the Super Eagles right now. That coach is Siasia. Keshi was there before and couldn't change things.

Keshi onfor M the other hand did in Togo what only few African coaches could do. But with the likes of Fred Kanoute, Seidu Keita, etc, he could not do much for Mali in Angola.

Siasia should be allowed to handle the team for now. We have experimented with Christian Chukwu, Shuaibu Amodu, Stephen Keshi and Austin Eguavoen.
Health / The Impact Of Acne On A Teenager by efoghorjos: 7:53pm On Oct 31, 2010
Acne could cause serious stress on a teenager as her psychological, emotional and physical life could be affected. No one loves to have a face that is seriously scarred and looking like a monster’s. Having a physical appearance that is aesthetically unacceptable could be very problematic and difficult to live with.

Psychologically it leads to a reduction in the sufferer’s self esteem as she sees herself as ugly, dirty and unattractive. This could be devastating to the self image she is just trying to build up as a young adult who is thinking of how to look attractive and acceptable to the opposite gender.

This inability to fully accept oneself for who one is could lead to anxiety or increased tension. The state of anxiety presents with other symptoms like diarrhea, anorexia, depression and failure in adaptation.

Besides, psychological problems could trigger up some physical problems such as asthma, eczema, etc: such problems are referred to as psychosomatic disorders. It goes to show that the problems of the mind could go as far as affecting the physical body.

The patient’s emotional upset creates more negative impact on them than the acne creates. Acne and stress can become interrelated – more acne causes more stress and the stress could cause the condition to worsen. It is more of a vicious cycle. Reduction in emotional stress could significantly reduce acne.

The presence of this anomaly on the skin could also create some social effects as the teenager finds it increasingly difficult to associate with friends. Since she sees herself as ugly and unacceptable, she also believes others see her that way. This conclusion invariably leads her into separating herself from friends.

Suspicion may also come in because she sees herself as the object of ridicule and the subject of other people’s discussion. This is going to make her withdraw further away from them into a life of complete isolation.

However, the teenager should understand that acne could be treated and cured. With proper treatment the scars could be minimized or completely eliminated. When the right persons are consulted, the right treatment could as well be gotten.

She should learn to control the way her mind reacts to her problem; this is because the problem the mind creates could be worse than the presence of the disease itself. When the mind is effectively controlled, the psychological, emotional and physical effects of the problem can be alleviated.

Sports / Super Falcons Set To Reclaim Their Birth Rights by efoghorjos: 3:12pm On Oct 31, 2010
The Super Falcons of Nigeria are set to reclaim their birth rights as the traditional African female soccer team, as the African Women Championship begins in South Africa. The perennial champions who have won 5 out of 6 editions of the championship lost only the last edition to Equatorial Guinea which was also the host of the last edition.

The Nigerian team may have lost the last edition by underrating their opponent; and partly because the team also had some fitness problems during the time. This time around they are set to bounce back into reckoning.

One of the things that would work in favour of the falcons is the coaching crew led by former African highest goal scorer Uche Eucharia who is highly experienced after being to the first 3 editions of the women world cup. She was also at the first edition of the African Championship held in Abeokuta in Nigeria in 1998 as the assistance coach of the team.

Uche Eucharia is assisted by another experienced former member of the falcons, Anne Agumanu who was the goal keeper during her time. With the team being handled by past players who know the areas of strength and weaknesses of the various teams, it would be easier for them to do well in South Africa and at the end emerge victorious.

The current Nigeria team is a mixture of experience and youth as some of the players were graduated from the U-20 who got the final of the female youth championship in Germany this year.

However, one area the falcons need to work harder is the area of attack; it was evident during the U-20 Championship in Germany that the team was struggling to convert the begging opportunities they had. With a highly experienced striker as the current coach, that should not be a major problem anymore.

The team is very strong in the midfield and defense: they only need to add one or two good strikers to augment he effort of the midfielders. If the team is able to hold its ground the way the U-20 and the U-17 did recently, it would be easy for them to succeed with the addition of the experienced old hands.

The falcons play their opening match against Mali on the 1st of November. The other teams in their group include the host nation South Africa and Tanzania. The only major threat to their ambition is the host team which is equally experienced though they have not won any tournament titles.

Has any Igbo man ever asked himself why the Northerners are calling on the sky to fall down because power is changing hands?
Do you think the Northerners would want to wrestle power from anybody only to hand it back on a platter of gold to the people they have declared their worst enemies and untrusted people?
Why don't they give you the power now instead of 2015? They are simply insatiable when it comes to power. They've been there all the while and are still struggling to return to power at all cost.
The best option the Igbo man has now is to come closer to their South-South brothers and earn their confidence. This would be reciprocated by the South-South when it is their turn.
If the South co-operates, the North would be shut out of political relevance. Nigeria belongs to all of us, not just a section.
