Bola Ahmed Tinubu: The Strategist And The Achiever by barcanista https://www.nairaland.com/1921341/bola-ahmed-tinubu-strategist-achieverbarcanista: TINUBU THE FIRST Asiwaju’s Administration was also one of the first to pursue Public-Private Partnership projects as a mechanism for infrastructure delivery against the backdrop of the inability of the public sector to solely fund the infrastructure needs of a modern Mega City. Perhaps the most far-reaching in this respect is the construction of the N44 billion Lekki-Epe Expressway and accompanying Coastal roads, which is the largest concessionairing project of its size and complexity in Africa.
HIS GREAT LEGACIES One of the Tinubu Administration’s greatest legacies to posterity is the very sound financial pedestal on which she placed Lagos State. From a situation of near total dependence on statutory allocation from the Federation Account in 1999, the Administration had reduced the state’s reliance on allocations from the Federation Account to not more than 25 % by its exit from office in May 2007. As a result of sound management of the state’s finances, the Administration was able to pay salaries/emoluments totaling N180 billion to approximately 50,000 civil servants between 1999 and 2007; N70 billion as civil service operational running costs within the same period while also meeting its financial obligations to the state’s 15,000 civil service/teachers pensioners, 51,000 primary school teachers and local government workers and also promptly paying subventions to the 50 Parastatals including tertiary institutions in Lagos State. Not even the politically motivated seizure of over N24 billion of funds statutorily due to the Local Governments of Lagos State for over two years could destabilize the state financially or incapacitate the Local Governments from functioning in the interest of the grassroots; another indication of how rock solid the state’s finances were.
PROMINENT PROTEGES The Incumbent performing Governors of Lagos State, Raji Fashola and his Osun Counterpart Engr. Olusoji Rauf Aregbesola were proteges of Asiwaju Tinubu. Aregbesola served as his Works Commissioner, while Fashola served as his Chief of Staff. The Current Minister of State for Defense and Fmr Nigeria's Ambassador to Ghana Senator Musliu Obanikoro was a member of Tinubu's cabinet where he served as the Commisioner for Home Affairs and Culture, after his impressive tenure as Chairman, Lagos Island Local Government.
CONTROVERSIES: 1. CERTIFICATE FORGERY SCANDAL: In 1998, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi while filing INEC form on behalf of Bola Tinubu, entered that Tinubu attended University of Chicago between 1976 and 1979. Human Right Lawyer, Gani took Tinubu to court for certificate forgery and lying under oath... Findings reveals that The Mistake was from Afikuyomi but the Certificate submitted to INEC was that of Chicago State University and Not University of Chicago. The SC however struck out the case in June 2013. 2. ALLEGED CORRUPTION EFCC Chairman Mallam Nuhu Ribadu in 2006 indicted Bola Tinubu for corruption, alleging that the Airtel Deal by Lagos State Government was not transparent. Tinubu submitted himself for scrutiny after leaving power in 2007. The same EFCC after much scrutiny, cleared Bola Tinubu of the allegation in 2009. 3. FOREIGN ACCOUNT OPERATION According to the Law, it is illegal for a Public Servant to operate foreign account while in Power. Tinubu was dragged by the Code of Conduct Bureau for allegedly operating foreign account, the Code of Conduct Tribunal sitting in Abuja acquitted and Cleared Tinubu of all the Charges. CRITICISM: Many(myself included) criticized Tinubu for the manner two of his Deputies were impeached/resigned. However, no one is perfect. We all make mistakes. As at Today, one of his sacked Deputy, Otunba Femi Pedro is back in APC and has pledged his loyalty to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Today, the name Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu is associated with a political heavyweight, a mentor, father, brother and friend. However, it must be said that he is an astute performer, visionary and one of the best brains in Nigeria. Yes, Tinubu is also the Achiever.
God Bless the APC leader God Bless APC God Bless Nigeria God Bless Barcanista |

barcanista: EDUCATION: Young Bola Ahmed Tinubu studied in Chicago State University, Illinois, graduating with honours in 1979 and earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (Accounting and Management). Throughout his undergraduate years, young Bola was on the Dean’s List and was honoured with the Outstanding Student’s Award, the University Scholar’s Award and the Certificate of Merit in Accounting and Finance. He was also awarded the prestigious Sumna cum laude for scoring 3.54 out of possible 4.0 GP. With his successful academic profile, young Bola contested and won his first political election as the President of the Accounting Society of the institution in his final year at the University.
PRIVATE SERVICE: Upon graduation with honours and several awards, Bola Tinubu cut his professional teeth at the American-based Arthur Anderson, Deloitte Haskins and Sells (now called Deloitte Haskins and Touche) and GTE Service Corporation - the largest Communication and Utility Company in the United States of America.
On his return to Nigeria and with his international experience in Financial Management, young Bola joined Mobil Producing Nigeria as a Senior Auditor, He rose to become the Treasurer of Mobil Producing Nigeria before his voluntary retirement.
ENTRY INTO PUBLIC SERVICE: SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY FOUNDING MEMBER Asiwaju Bola Tinubu opted fully for public service in exchange for his lucrative job at Mobil. His first foray into active politics was as a founding member of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP). ELECTED SENATOR In 1992, he was elected as an Honourable Senator of the Federal Republic Nigeria to represent Lagos West Senatorial District. At the National Assembly, he distinguished himself as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Finance, Appropriation and Currency - a foremost committee of the Senate. NADECO AND JUNE 12 With the annulment of the June 12, 1993 Nigerian Presidential Election and the consequent fresh militarization of the Nigerian politics, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu became a founding member of the famous pro-democracy group, the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) which, for several years, engaged the military for the very soul of Nigeria. Subsequently, Bola Tinubu suffered many arrests and detention, harassment and constant threats to his life forcing him to flee Nigeria for his personal safety. He, however, did not give up the struggle as he joined NADECO abroad to continue the agitation for a restoration of democratic governance and the rule in the country. ELECTED GOVERNOR OF LAGOS STATE, 1999-2007 In 1998, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu returned to Nigeria to heed a call for all Nigerians to join in the National Reconciliation and Development. A year later, he began his two-term public service as an elected Executive Governor of Lagos State on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD). ACHIEVEMENT IN OFFICE AS LAGOS STATE GOVERNOR: 1. INTERNAL REVENUE: From N600m/Month in 1999 to N8.2b/mth in 2007 When Colonel Mohammed Marwa assumed office as Governor of Lagos State, the state’s Internally Generated Revenue was about N300 million monthly. The Marwa Administration then engaged the services of the Adekanola Tax Consultancy firm, an initiative that helped to raise the state’s Internally Generated Revenue to N600 million monthly as at 1999. The engagement of the Alpha Beta Tax Consultancy firm after due process was an initiative that paid off handsomely helping to raise the Internally Generated Revenue of Lagos State from N600 million per month in 1999 to a monthly average of N5.025 billion in 2006 and peaking at between N7 billion and N8.2 billion monthly as at March 2007.
N/B: Alpha Beta was not involved in actual collection of revenue. It only provided the technical expertise and sophisticated technological back up for more effective revenue monitoring and blockage of sources of revenue leakages and fraud. One radical measure taken in this regard, for instance, was the introduction of the Electronic Banking System/Revenue Collection Monitoring Project (EBS/RCM), which enabled the utilization of high level technology to create a robust data base of tax payers, eliminate ghost workers, plug loop holes of revenue leakage and enhance revenue performance by partnering with the private sector to ensure more effective monitoring of collected revenue. LAGOS STATE INVESTMENTS UNDER TINUBU'S WATCH Tinubu Administration equally continued to strengthen the state’s investment portfolio through: 1. Ibile Holdings Limited (IHL)- Thus, as at March 2007, Ibile Holdings Portfolio of equities had a market value of N11.46 billion. Through IHL, the state invested N3.84 billion in Celtel (formerly Vmobile/Econet) in 2003 and by the time she divested from the company in 2007, Lagos State had reaped a dividend of N19 billion in four years. Also through IBH the Administration invested N11 billion in the state’s LAGBUS mass Bus Transit Project with N6.5 billion going into the acquisition of brand new Marco polo buses and N4.5 billion into the provision of infrastructure and maintenance facility for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system that is today a phenomenal success story
2. Lagos Building and Investment Company (LBIC)- The Administration increased the share capital of the Lagos Building and Investing Company (LBIC) from N100 million to N500 million to enhance its capacity to be an effective player in the modern mortgage business
3. Lagos State Assurance Company (LASACO). . The administration also supported the Lagos State Assurance Company (LASACO) with over N1 billion to meet the Central Bank of Nigeria’s directive on the re-capitalization of insurance companies.
INFRASTRUCTURE 1. HOUSING:- The administration came to power in 1999 and promised 10,000 Housing Scheme for Lagosians. This he achieved and even exceeded the 10,000 housing as promised with the provision of Millennium Houses through the LSDPC. - Provision of infrastructure in newly constructed housing Estates such as Abraham Adesanya housing Scheme, Ajah, Oba Adeyinka Oyekan housing scheme, Lekki, Ikeja GRA housing scheme, Lekki 1 Millenium Housing Scheme, Ayangburen Housing Scheme, Ikorodu, Gbagada Housing scheme, as well as massive rural electrification and micro water projects 2. BUSINESS DISTRICT The renewal, re-development and re-construction of the Lagos Island Central Business District comprising sixteen highways at a cost of N15 billion; re-construction and modernization of such key roads as Awolowo road, Ikoyi, Akin Adesola road, Victoria Island, Adeola Odeku road, Victoria Island, Oba Sekumade road, Ikorodu, Yaba-Itire-Lawanson-Ojuelegba road, Agege Motor road, Ikotun-Igando road, Kudirat Abiola road, Oregun, commencement of LASU-Iba road and Ajah-Badore road to name a few; 3. [s] DaJulee: Defining A Sane Voter
By Julius Diamond
28th March is still far but so close. It is expected on this day that all male and female Nigerians who are of voting age are expected to VOTE for the best presidential candidate. This expected event draws my attention to take a closer look at those people who can be referred to as insane voters.
I can categorically say that not all citizens vote with their right senses. This explains that most citizens vote in a state of INSANITY.
For knowledge purposes: an INSANE voter, as can be referred to a crazy person or mad person is a man characterized with spectrum of behaviors identified by mental instabilities, physical disorder and certain abnormal behavioural patterns as related to the choice of whom to vote in any election.
For further knowledge, I have reasonably identified some characteristics of an INSANE voter and why he/she is insane.
1. An insane person will vote for a 97yrs old man whose brain is dead to lead a country of 170m citizens.
2. An insane person will Vote an uncertified school leaver against a Phd holder.
3. An INSANE person will vote a man who is a danger to himself and to others. (Buhari).
4. An insane person will vote Dictatorship against Democracy.
5. An insane person will Vote a religious bigot, and ethnic sentimentalist.
6. An insane person will vote a candidate with too many controversies.
In the other hand, a sane voter is a person possessing a rational mind, and knowing the right person to vote for.
From this perspective, I have resolved to categorically say that "any thought of thinking to voting a man whose name is Gen Buhari is INSANITY".
Therefore, he who claims SANITY must realize himself by VOTING for the most credible, Transformation oriented, peace seeking, women oriented, youth oriented, and God fearing candidate, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
Vote PDP VOTE Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, com 28th March, 2015. [/s] All I see is Hate, Ignorance and quest to grab a slice of what Jonathan Looted. What a shame. Buhari all the way. Corrupt politicians and their agents will not distract us. Sai Buhari. |

TANiods keep parading this falsehood, hoping that lying many times will make people to start believing it. Very Shameful. Shagari Denies Endorsing JonathanThe family of former Nigerian President Shehu Shagari has refuted a story that Mr. Shagari has endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan. In a statement released by one of the ex-president’s sons, Muhammad Bala Shagari, the family reacted to a spurious report by a pro-Jonathan newspaper that claimed that Mr. Shagari had endorsed the incumbent president and condemned Muhammadu Buhari’s candidature as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I'd like to inform the general public and concerned citizens of this country that the speech that was credited to His Excellency Alhaji Shehu Shagari, GCFR (Turakin Sokoto) by some media agencies and online news blogs in which His Excellency was reported to have endorsed President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and commending his government for some achievements is nothing but a blatant lie. And we've condemned it in strong terms,” said the former president’s son.
He added: “It is pertinent to note that Alhaji Shehu Shagari is not a card-carrying member of any political party neither [does he] support the candidature of any politician. Alhaji Shehu Shagari was for long retired from partisan politics, he's known for his proven integrity and [reputation as a] distinguished nationalist and elder statesman who treats every Nigerian/politician equally irrespective of his/her political party, tribe, ethnicity or religion.
“Therefore Alhaji Shehu Shagari has never ever issued any press statement [or granted] audience [to] any media agency to comment on the forthcoming elections or to speak of any politician, be it president or not.
“We therefore urge the general public to regard such publication as mere fabrications and concoctions aimed to tarnish the good image of Alhaji Shehu Shagari.” http://saharareporters.com/2015/01/20/shagari-denies-endorsing-jonathanOP try another sets of lies to defend the failed Zoologist. |
