As patient as Unilorin's candidates... |
Wow, everybody seems to have the sword of Damocles hanging over their heads. Admission rigmarole season 1. ....Success remains ours. |
Am really really lagging behind on this thread... |
mystolad: .sir, is ds based on assumption or facts. I wonder how you will gain admission into unilorin without further scrutinization. U will b screened by comsit, faculty admitted to and department. Besides,if u escape all Ds, external supervisors will screen u in ur 3rd yr. If you've got beef for the school kindly "state it clearly" wouldn't know why u r defending unilag's share. I do accept d fact dat unilorin fail to fully states her admission requirements but that doesn't mean unilag,UI,oau, unaab n odas's admission is perfect. |

I do accept d fact dat unilorin fail to fully states her admission requirements but that doesn't mean unilag,UI,oau, unaab n odas's admission is perfect.Come on brother, am i getting under your skin? Am just an admirer of transparency in terms of publication of admission lists coupled with aggregate scores of admitted candidates on-line. But if unilorin can not simply do that then it does not deserve to be defended. Because defending it is tantamount to a desperate attempt to kiss one's elbow which is practically impossible. Or you want to give it a try? Sure, other universities do have their own shares of arbitrariness. especially UI which incidentally happens to be the precursor of unilorin's existence. As a matter of fact, Unilorin's unwritten law of connection was inherited from Ui. But unilorin can outgrow this archaic system of admission and consolidate its glory of being the Best university in Nigeria. After all, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Again, defending unilag is completely out of the question. Because i stand to gain nothing by doing that, but as a transparency lover, it is incumbent upon me to commend its admission system, for once you make or beat the cut-off mark of your course of choice, your admission is guaranteed provided you have the required valid documents at your disposal. |
Idboyostic: Unilag 'will' never admit....are you part of the admission officers or were u thr when names of admitted candidates were collated? Do you know how many ghost names (names that dint appear on the list) that will be found in class among those that were given admission when Unilag resume for new session? At least If you beat the cut-off you would be admitted. So, it is now left to you to make the merit list and they reserve the right to decide the fate of those that didn't beat the cut-off. Isn't that fair enough? |
rkarang: I could have assumed that it was an error but for the few others that I saw with 50s as their aggregates.Prima facie Unilag has explanation to give to the public, but let's not be judgemental yet. perhaps those on the merit list whose aggregate scores are below the required cut-off are foreigners and they may have special consideration for them of which we are completely oblivious of. Again the glaring discrepancy could be human error or system computational glitch that will eventually be rectified. Otherwise, I don't think the admission board would be so daft to nonchalantly admit candidates with controversial aggregate scores and published it online where it will be accessed by the public's eagle-eye. Of course, am not in any way defending unilag. Because what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, but Unilag is a triton among the minnows in terms of admission transparency. And this is probably where it shines as a university of first choice. Yes, I am wrong regarding 50% as minimum cut-off for eligibility for a change of course. Thanks for that observation. |
lukmonadeola: @bro rkarang u are right.i also see someone dat scored below aggregate dat was admitted.if it is unilorin it is "connection" but unilag is human error according to some fella.lolz |
lukmonadeola: @bro rkarang u are right.i also see someone dat scored below aggregate dat was admitted.if it is unilorin it is "connection" but unilag is human error according to some fella.lolzThat is a tentative admission. Further screening awaits them. At least they have admission lists on their site for public scrutiny unlike unilorin where admission is conducted behind a screen of secrecy. |
rkarang: Good morning, sir! Hope you're being good? That is human error. Besides, 50% is the general cut-off and she scored below 50, she is not even eligible for a change of course let alone mbbs. Bottom line, she can't make it past clearance with that score. |
EINSTEINPG: @all will my brother be given another course instead of computer science cos he did maths, english, physics and econs instead of chemistry in jamb?urgent reply please. |
BBFM: What is d essence of a cut-off mark when merit is said 2 be d last thing?Sometimes i ask myself "is unilorin a standard uni or a mere lottery outlet where your number of trials is directly proportional to the amount of money in your wallet"? This is ludicrously outlandish for a uni of its calibre. |
Jammy2012: Hmmmm....they are making the situation seem impasse to us. Where by you are "better by cash". lol. money expedites your chances of getting admission. I think this shouldn't be a dichotomy but as they have planned.Quite on point bro. |
Nastydroid: hmmmn they might give you anoda course tho.But why are you avoiding maths? For your info computer science deals with mathematics most@all will my brother be given another course instead of computer science cos he did maths, english, physics and econs instead of chemistry in jamb? |
Abasstoheeb: Why d rum so dullI don't think the room is dull. The aspirants have probably gone into retreat to pray fervently for DIVINE INTERVENTION. And this shows the gravity of what is at stake. In fact, this is the zenith of excitement. May be it's about time you did the same. |
BBFM: Thanks 4 that pal. Hahahahaha! Guy, what course are u aspiring 4?Maths bro. And you? |
BBFM: Be rest assured u'll b offered admission in AAUA wt dat score irrespective of ur course of pursuit. Merit is their watchword their. They are unlike d "better by cash" varsity. Accept my congratulations pal."BETTER BY CASH" (BBC). You are a funny fellow. By the way am not going to report you to prof AMBALI for we are not on good terms in terms of connection factor. |
horlawaleh001: He's a real pro-te-gee of al-Hasan....Protegee is the feminine version of protege. But am a male. Besides, i don't know this admirable crichton called Al-Hassan. So, being his protege is beyond my subtle comprehension. |
Yungmilio2: igodomigodoFlattery brings friends, truth brings enemies. I respect your opinion. Thanks for your criticism. |
DrHesjay: Huh...Gratitude is the least of virtues. Ingratitude the worst of vices. Thanks for your reformative piece of advice. Besides, it would be myopic of me to remain incorrigible. I will surely work on your priceless advice. You know what? You are my idol bro. |
Lordseyad: Have you heard bout 'Economy of words'?Nope, but i have heard about propagation of reading culture. |
Yungmilio2: Faith?Exactly bro. And one does not necessarily have to be a computer science graduate to write computer programs, but one surely needs a solid background in computer science to design efficient algorithms. These days a complete novice can code HTML, CSS and JAVASCRIPT etc. |
"We become brave by doing brave acts," observed Aristotle in the Nicomachean Ethics. Dispositions of character, virtues and vices, are progressively fixed in us through practice. thus "by being habituated to despise things that are terrible and to stand our ground against them we become brave, and it is when we have become so that we shall be most able to stand our ground against them." Standing ground against threatening things is not to be confused with fearlessness, however. Being afraid is perfectly appropriate emotion when confronted with fearful things. The great American novelist Herman Melville makes the Aristotelian point beautifully in telling passage in His classic book, Moby-Dick, a book I actually read in primary school, where Starbuck, the chief mate of the Pequod, first addresses the crew. "'I will have no man in my boat,' said Starbuck, 'who is not afraid of a whale.' By this, he seemed to mean, not only that the most reliable and useful courage was that which arises from the fair estimation of the encountered peril, but that an utterly fearless man is a far more dangerous comrade than a coward." The infectious nature of strikingly courageous behaviour on the part of one person can inspire- and also in part can shame a whole group. The mere inclination to do the right thing is not in itself enough. We have to know what the right thing to do is, the aftermath effect and the hindsight analysis. If Aristotle is right-and i think that he is, then courage is a settled disposition to feel appropriate degrees of fear and confidence in challenging situations- such as Unilorin admission. It is also a settled disposition to stand one's ground, to advance or to retreat as wisdom dictates. At this point in time, the morale and mood of candidates are in the doldrums. And to divine the future the past must be studied. In the light of this i took it upon myself to find out from Unilorin students in person to unequivocally establish beyond all reasonable doubts the seemingly iron-clad assertion regarding connection. But they all reverberated the same thing in unison, that making merit list is one in a million and that only happens when the slot masters have satisfied their unbridled irregularities and saturation point has been questionably attained--- And challenging this institutionalized corruption remains a tall order in this three-ring circus. And an indifferent attitude towards this ubiquity of connection is equivalent to tilt at windmills. At the summit of shock and confusion they conclusively established that the unwritten law of connection is megalomaniacally irrevocable. These revelatory insights are worrisome given the prognostication projected by our would-be academic precursors. Indeed, this is a titanic struggle between moral and future. And we are on the threshold of a new chapter in our life, yet we are confronted with dilemma-Should we join the band-wagon of connection or we should remain adamant? But i think where ignorance is bliss, it's folly to be wise. And not recognising this stubborn fact leaves us to plough a lonely furrow. And a wise man changes his mind sometimes, a fool never. Please admission seekers follow the river and you will find the sea and give unto caesar what dubiously belongs to him. Besides, Christmas comes but once in a year. This sudden change of mind is underpinned by extensive research and i do not have any ulterior motive for advocating for a compromise of principle. I remain unabashed regarding this latest opinion as against my previous stance on connection. Oh yes, am fully aware of what some critics would say by mercilessly lampooning me that I lack confidence, I don't believe in myself and above all am devoid of faith. But what have confidence and faith got to do by hobnobing with Ebola patients? Besides, this does not change my earlier aversion of connection and my repugnance of it. Am only conscientiously advising co-candidates to be on the qui vive and stop impugning what lies ahead to avert being undeserving victims of connection. As for me I have crossed the rubicon and I remain opinionated as far as connection is concerned. And no cerberus-like master or gargantuan and pantagruel turned individuals should be expecting a sop from me.In other words, anything less than merit is outrightly repudiated by me, am only warning the faint-hearted ones out there(no pun intended) to weigh their options properly before crossing the rubicon while this exigency of admission lasts. In the end we shall all find the Elysian happiness and be inducted into the mystery of the elusive admission. I think it will be invidious if I don't point this out, that my latest position on connection will likely lead to incursion of this forum by hobgoblins whose sole intentions are to inveigle you into parting with your hard-earned money. Please do not listen to any of these inveterate liars. If you have the predilection or relish for connection, please go to the school for proper transaction with bona fide officials. Am I playing the devil's advocate now? You be the judge. |
Adolphchidi: UNILORINplease stay away from this forum if contacting you via phone number&email are the only ways you can render assistance.Because those are just two of the many ways of extorting innocent candidates. Pardon my mild asperity. |
Azukam1: From their page on facebook. Now that the general cut-off is 50%, what other criteria are going to be employed to get the desired figure by the school? Departmental cut-off or THE PEDANTIC CONNECTION? |
MckenzieMikel: Dude be smart that's all I can tell u. I graduated from der in 2013, I knw sup...... holla me 07030397746.We are not that gullible to believe that you graduated last year. Why don't you drop your MATRIC N0? |
MckenzieMikel: Be smart man. Tis highly competitive dis time...... If u need assist holla 07030397746What kind of assistance are you alluding to? |
Elijah348: you are an art studient righhtNo sir, I did sciences in secondary school. I should be undividedly engrossed in mathematics/physics right now in earnest preparation for university, but Unilorin's ambiguous system is keeping me off at a tangent momentarily. I shall soon give rein to my course of choice. Why asking sir? |
bammy2050: prof Einstein...To me,it seems u r only being sarcastic 2wards UIL's students...I was admitted on merit as far back as 2011...I'm sori 2 say,if u feel merit cant work 4 u,then it wont.....I av tons of friends dat made it to UIL witout entering kwara state 4 once in their lives,b4 d lists were released....Tell me d most transparent skul in Nigeria nd let me ask u if they dnt produce graduates wit 3rd class nd pass year in year out(At least they admitted d best brains dat applied )...Wit 50 nd 99.99 u all av equal chances of being admitted since d cut-off is 50% (I hope u nw see d essence of familiarity)...Dnt be decieved 50 is d cut-off nd nt ur magnificient score...A graduate wit a CGPA of 3.50 nd 1 wit a CGPA of 4.499 r both second class upper division graduates...Oh no, if have hurt you in any way via my posts please find a place within your loving heart to forgive me, and let's move. |
Hardheolar: too much grammer dem.. u re in art dept shey??No sir, it is mathematics all the way. Besides am not yet school. Why asking sir? |
n3utron: In the name of God... Your 150 lines can be shortened to 10 lines. Stop the grammer, stop wasting our mb and help us get the admission. Then you can grammerize the whole of naira land sir's.Oh Dear, am remorsefully sorry for that. Please bear with me. |
DeLaw3: Jst wanna chip in abt d issue of connection. In unilorin u must be connected, If nt, OYO. The game was changed last yr because of d mass failure both in JAMB ad Post jamb, then abt 60% was picked on merit, even some were moved to higher courses. This year, alot of high scores were banged @ jamb ad post jamb. 400 qualified students maybe competing Fr 50 space, d stronger ones will surely av it, most times places that were left by hustlers are occupied by opportunist.....Your advice is very well on the tapis. We need more eye-opening pieces of advice from you to corroborate what we've long suspected. Thanks a whole lots. |
, cos minimum of 40% was used last year.
