I understand PR is the best route to immigrate to Canada. In fact, if you can get it then you can do further studies at a very cheap price.

BUT we should also consider the fact that if its that easy to get PR from naija, den half or 3/4 of Nigerians will be in Canada by now. There is one crucial exam called IELTS which you much get perfect scores of 8,7,7,7 and its that bad DAT you will not get PR even if you get 8.5,7,7,6.5. I have seen several people write this exam more than 10 times. Another factor is patient and uncertainty. What if the scores keep rising?.. Don't forget by june, Express entry will favour those who have siblings in Canada more. So express entry may be on this rising by then.

My point: Every decision has its advantages and disadvantages. I can choose student route and get to Canada within 3 months and prepare to follow restrictive rules and pay BIG money for fees or wait for PR which may take more than a year plus uncertainty and have everything to yourself in Canada.

I am quite in a Delima myself, I have decided to push from both cylinders. I wrote ielts in April to enter the EE pool and got 7.5 in all the sections but I know I did better than that, I want to apply for a remark in listening and reading to boost my score and also want to start the application for TRV For my MBA admission in UNB. Please I sent you a PM kindly respond I need to make some clarifications.

I finally got 8 in Listening after writting ielts 3 times. Wow wow, just checked my result this morning.

Thanks so much to all who encouraged me. I did a whole lot of YouTube practise so I guess it was worth it. Now my score will jump from 389 to 441.

Follow Up Follow Up Follow UP, though their standard processing time is 20 working days after receiving all documents, but with lots of prayer and BOMBARDING they can do it in lesser time. I hope they don't ask your school to verify your transcript or certificate.

Finally my ECA is ready! Am waiting again for ielts results to come out on the 12th...wish I can get into the pool today while I await my ielts results...just in case

Its practice,practice and more practice. By practice I mean actually writing some essays and timing yourself and having someone proofread for u. If theres nobody, u will sure feel when ur writing has improved. Another means of preparing is reading a variety of sample answers to the same question so it can give you an idea of how to tackle different questions, what is expected of you and also you will be able to connect those different methods of writing to produce a strong/quality essay.
Another thing is the length of your essay, ive written IELTs 4 times, first for admission, then for immigration and last 2 times for certification and ive come to the realization that the length of your essay matters alot. I"ve always written almost the exact 250 words because all this while I thought you couldnt write above that. That way I always limited myself in expanding my ideas. This time around I wrote 6 solid paragraphs. Paragraph 6 was the conclusion. I made them as coherent as possible. E.g my paragraphs were :intro, causes, cons, pros, solutions and conclusion. Guess what, I had a maximum of 2 related but well elaborated points in each paragraph. Mind you I didnt finish writing my conclusion.
Using a variety of Vocabulary is also of essence. Trust me, I used a few "terms/big words" in the right context though.

NB I PRACTICED USING THE WEBSITE GIVEN BY IDP (their writing section is well disected) , IELTSBUDDY AND WATCHED A FEW YOUTUBE VIDEOS WHEN LAZY WHICH WERE OF HELP THOUGH. I prepared for a maximum of 7days but it was intense because I wrote a minimum of 5 essays and alot of reading different writeups.

My hubby's ECA report finally came out on Friday. So we decided to enter the pool without mine - WES has been wasting time on mine. Our mark is 443 and we are really looking forward to ITA tomorrow by God's grace. All things will work togeda for the good of everyone of us.

Wow atlast, my target was writing. Needed a 7 and I got it. My last IELTs I had a 6.5 in writing. Im happy I made it and want to encourage everyone not to give up for they can attain their targeted result. Good luck everyone.

Bear in mind that from June, the minimum (cut off) CRS mark MAY likely increase when the new additional points rule for french speaking (15 or 30) and people with siblings (15) starts. There are perhaps thousands of people looking to benefit from this. If your CRS score will be 478, you should be fine, but with 441, it may be very tight for direct EE ITA from June and probably may be so for a while. So move very fast!
I myself am on a rat race to enter the pool in time before June, else I'll have to write french exam to boost my score

Hello great people, so my IELTS score just got in L 8.5 R 7.5 W 7.0 S 8.0. I am very shocked by the Reading score as I thought I had aced it and was going to get a perfect 9. Writing is a different ballgame, in hindsight I noticed I didn't complete all the tasks as I didn't describe my apartment which was one of the three requirements of the writing task. However, I think 7 is too low for the essay I wrote.


I want to apply for a remark of the Reading and Writing parts. I know chances of getting a higher band in Reading is slim, since it's majorly objective type answers. I'm almost certain, I can get something higher in Writing. However, all I can get from all that trouble given perfect IELTS scores is an additional 6 CRS points. That will move me from 419 to 425(turns out being in your 30's isn't such a good thing ).

Given all these facts, do you guys think I should petition for a remark? Should I just suck it up and rewrite or just wait and hope CRS scores fall to 419 and below?

The Programme is a residential ‘intensive’ training that runs for a period of nine (9) weeks.
