Hans Backe's statements on Swedish channel TV4 have caused controversy. The former New York Red Bulls coach stated that Messi was seriously insolent to Guardiola ahead of a match during the 2008-09 season. According to the Swede, Messi interrupted Pep's speech to ask for a Coca Cola. The coach told him that he could not drink that kind of drink before a game. Messi completely ignored him, stood up, picked up a Coca Cola and drank it in front of all his teammates. Source. www.marca.com/2013/09/22/en/football/barcelona/1379865733.html

CALABAR—A pregnant woman, Ekaiquo Ewa, and her two children aged 7 and 3, were burnt to death, when a building that served as a residential building and business outlet caught fire, weekend, in Ugep, Yakuur Local Government Area, Cross River State. The inferno, which engulfed the 27, Calabar Road house on Friday at 7p.m., caught the woman and her children in their one-room apartment, while her husband, Denis Ewa, was away from the house. Okoi, a mechanic, whose shop is close to the burnt house, told Vanguard: “We did not know the source of the fire. It is still a mystery how the fire started and spread so fast that the woman and the two children could not escape.” The woman, Okoi said, was from Akwa Ibom State, while her husband is from Abini, a neighbouring village to Ugep. File photo... File photo… He said: “They have been living here for some time and the time the fire engulfed the house, Denis was not at home and effort by other tenants to stop the fire did not yield fruit as the flame was too fierce.” The fire completely razed several motor parts and provision shops, which were in the front of the building. “The fire started suddenly and was so fierce that nobody could salvage anything,” Okoi said. The body of the woman had been deposited at the Ugep General Hospital Mortuary, while those of the children had been buried. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/09/pregnant-woman-2-children-burnt-to-death/#sthash.fKU89Hn1.dpuf |

Olu, Warri chiefs perfect truce Our Reporter September 12, 2013 4 Comments » Olu, Warri chiefs perfect truce Normalcy returned to Warri, Delta State yesterday after the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse 11, on Tuesday bowed to pressure over the crisis generated by the controversial “new order in Iwere kingdom.” The monarch later met with his chiefs. The edict had banned the use of Ogiame to address him as well as rejected obeisance and other traditional homage from his people. He also outlawed the Itsekiri anthem, Ara Lorire. He said the title connotes allegiance to a water goddess, Umalokun. However, the siege and general outcry by his subjects from within and outside the country, prompted the U-turn by the monarch. Although the nitty-gritty of Wednesday’s meeting was not released to reporters, it was gathered that it was aimed at ironing the details of Tuesday’s truce, which culminated in the monarch sanctioning a return to the old order. A nine-year-old pupil of Gbaraun Community Primary School in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has been killed by pirates. It was learnt that the bandits allegedly shot the girl dead as they were operating along the waterways of the community on Tuesday. Our correspondent gathered that the incident led to a protest in the community by the youth who later apprehended one of the suspects. The suspect was alleged to have facilitated the movement of the pirates into the area. The gunmen were said to have moved into the community from Ikebiri area of the council. Sources said the pirates shot sporadically into the air while snatching a speedboat, adding that the girl was shot when she allegedly peeped to know the reason for the gunshots. Father of the victim, identified simply as Ziebidei, was said to have reported the incident to the police. A source who did not want his name mentioned said, “The pirates shot the girl dead at Gbaraun in Southern Ijaw. They were suspected to have come from Ikebiri community. “One suspect was arrested. The corpse of the girl has been deposited at the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre.” When contacted, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, confirmed the incident. He said, “The girl died after she was hit by one of the stray bullets fired by the gunmen. The police have recovered one of the boats used by the pirates during the operation. “We are on their trail. A 32-year-old undergraduate, Chizoba Nwabuwa, has been arrested by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for ingesting 25 wraps of male condoms filled with cocaine. In a statement by the NDLEA’s Head of Public Affiars, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, the agency said the arrest was made at the newly upgraded Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu State. Head of the NDLEA, Enugu Aiport Command, Mr. Nsikak- Abasi Udoh, confirmed the arrest. He said, “Nwabuwa was arrested during the inward screening of passengers on an Ethiopian flight from Brazil. “The suspect excreted 25 wraps of a liquid substance that tested positive for cocaine, weighing 1.250kg. This is the first drug seizure to be made at the airport; it is exciting because we have just commenced operations.” Nwabuwa, who claimed to be a 400 level student of Fine and Applied Arts at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State said, “I wanted to use the N500, 000 they promised to pay me in developing my art gallery. They assured me in Brazil that authorities will not be able to detect liquid cocaine, so I was confident.” Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA Ahmadu Giade commended his men for the seizure. He said, “The Agency accords high priority attention to all the nations’ airports. We shall continue to improve our operations at the airports and prevent drug trafficking syndicates from using them.” source....http://www.punchng.com/metro/undergraduate-ingests-liquid-cocaine-packed-inside-condoms/
