9Pluto: This is another beautiful piece of history. So in 1905 Opobo was Igbo In 1925 Opobo was also confirmed igbo by a newspaper publication Yet, in 2022 while Opobo still speak igbo till date and continue practice a largely igbo culture, Bayelsa boys are claiming relationship today.
I think Egwanga there refers to Igwuocha, the former name for the current Portharcourt. I believe it is Igwe Nga, an old alternative name for the Opobo areas. Even today, the Igbo dialect in Opobo is called Igwe Nga but a bit old-fashioned. |

I sat down last year when I visited my maternal grandfather and asked him about Ndoki/azumini and if Their real name is aminadokiari. my maternal grandfather who is more Igbo than any of you clowns who are children told me yes for a fact that their name is Aminadokiari and they are mbammiri people but because they were closer to Igbo land, their Language died.
I also had a chat with one of his daughter's husband(who is an ndoki man; and I wrote a thread on it last year) and he told me for a fact that they came from Ijaw land but their DIALECT was lost.
it is no co incidence that they have joined all ijaw socio cultural organizations. go to "OPOBIANS ON FACEBOOK;save Opobo foundation" it is a public group with 6.5k members. and go and observe.
so if an Opobo man and an Ndoki man tells you he is not Igbo but ijaw, you will carry your goat brain that is full of achara grass to come and tell us otherwise? it seems won't be your only enemy. people keep on rejecting and denying you, but you keep on forcing yourselves on them. Both Olukwumi and Aboki are the same thing. They mean "my friend", a term Ndigbo in early 20th century used to migrant Yorubas and Hausa respectively. No doubt, the Olukunmis are recent migrants... they too cannot even contest it. Yeah, they are extremely small. |

BKayy: In Nigeria, one don't argue who the superior is because circumstances makes it visible to the blind.
Of all the lies being churned by Yorubas, just few decades of being grouped with Western Igbos under Western Region, they devoted special attention to attach themselves to Anioma as a way to tap into the Igbo glory
@Nisai, you can see your people Shameless roping themselves into the Igbo folk just because Anioma managed to fall into Western Region. You now see why a Yoruba man went extra mile to attach his kinsmen that migrated to Igboland in 20th century to the indigenous Odiani. You now see the answer to why a Yoruba would call his brother an Igbo name and still call the other Igbo people bearing that name "his brothers" in Its all to attach themselves to the superior Igbo culture. If you call an Odiani person, Yoruba (not even the "Igalaoid" speaking people from Ebu), you may risk losing your head. Most Odiani hold the Igbo identity to heart. It is surprising and not surprising. It is not surprising because Odiani are basically inside Enuani. Enuanis consider themselves the "true" Igbos of Delta. (*Igbodo, though in Ika politically consider themselves Enuani people and "pure" Igbo) The Odiani holding on to an Igbo identity is also surprising for the fact that they are also around neighbouring groups like Ika and Ukwuanis (Minus Ndosumili) where identity crisis is really strong. Despite the fact that they are mostly bilingual and hold on to an Igbo or Enuani identity, whereas Ikas and Ukwuani with an identity crisis despite having only one language. |

TV/Movies › Re: Money Rituals: In Defence Of Nollywood by Ekealterego: 4:45pm On Feb 01, 2022 |
wirinet: Hollywood doesn't glamorise witches and vampires. They don't present them as means of obtaining riches. Most of the time they are used in the setting of an ancient or fantasy world, which you cannot relate with in today's world. It is usually a reminder of when Europe or America was in the dark ages where superstition ruled people's minds.
Nollywood presents witches as being still relevant and beneficial in today's world. I am very sure that the films like secret circle, Vampire diaries and the Originals were made in modern today's settings. The cultists and ritualist in Nollywood are never the good guys and the endings are always terrible. If anything they use them as an antagonist to promote Christianity or to show that devil worshipping and quick means to wealth are not right. I have not seen one Nollywood film that portrays a witch, cultists or ritualist in good light except for Yoruba films. Let's be true to ourselves. skull mining have become a part of the Yoruba society and should be discouraged. It's not Nollywood, in fact the Nollywood styled secret cults are not casted in the same way Skull minners go about their business. |

wirinet: A huge portion of the blame.
Plays, books and movies dictate the aspirations and directions of a society. Ancient Roman plays are always about conquest and war, hence Rome ended up a huge empire always at war.
Sci fi US movies (Hollywood), TV series and books of the 60s and seventies were about incredible scientific feats - space travel, wireless communication, powerful computers, artificial intelligence, human like robots, etc. Today all these aspirations has been met.
Nigerian movies and stories from the 80s and 90s were about making money rituals, yahoo yahoo ( I go chop your money), run girls (prostitution) and poor girl marrying rich man. All these are the aspirations of an average Nigerian youth today. Blame Yoruba movies. From time immemorial, the English Nollywood movies never for once glorified the ritualist nor have they ever ever portrayed them in a negative light. NEVER! Rather they glorify the pastor or church and the ritualist ends up in a bad way with devastating consequences. Where are you people getting all these your jargons from. Hollywood humanize witches, vampires etc, which should even be give a worse outcome. It is the Yoruba movies that glorify juju and ritual killing. People should start dealing with things specifically and stop blaming the wrong people. Again, these ritual killings have been a part of you people for a long time. |

PARADIZEPRIEST: nollywood is nothing but wood! THEY CANT SHOWCASE ANY GOOD ACT EXCEPT PROMOTE CULTISM AND BLOOD MONIES.THAT WHY NIGERIA IS SO POLLUTED WITH EVIL PEOPLE KILLIN FOR MONEY SO SAVAGERY. OTHER COUNTRIES USE MOVIES TO CORRECT ILLS IN SOCIETY,BUT NAIJA PPL DO THEIR STUPID HYPED DRAMAS THEY CALL MOVIE TO CAUSE DECADENCE IN SOCIETY. LOOK 24 MOVIE SERIES IN USA CURBING TERRORISM LOOK AT DESIGNATED SURVIVOR MOVIE SERIES CURBING CORRUPT GOVERNNANCE. NAIJA NEVA START MOVIES,THEY JUST CHEAP JOKERS. AFRICANS,NIGERIANS IN PARTICULAR HAVE SERIOUS PROBLEMS because THEY DONT LEARN GOOD EXCEPT EVIL,WHICH IS WHY THEY REMAIN IN UNCIVILIZED DARK AGES WITH SUCH CRUDE BEHAVIOURS AND LIFESTYLES. I can't remember Nollywood promoting cultism and ritual killings when the people playing those roles are always the villain who ends up in a bad way. Western movies also portray or even humanize witches, cultist and vampires. You guys should stop blaming Nollywood for something that is part of your culture 1000 of years before any Nollywood producer held a camera. I know Yoruba movies particularly promote rituals as solutions to every problem though, they need to upgrade their story writing. |

IgbuduMonkey: I have noticed a phenomenon over the years of Nigerian movie directors using big mansions and cars in their productions. It's okay if it helps the plot, but most times, the storyline would be perfectly depicted using a more relatable average Nigerian house and car. In American movies, you hardly see them portray superlative riches unless it's relevant to the plot.
Has any other person noticed this or it's just me? Movies also use actresses and actors who are more beautiful and handsome than the average joe or more charismatic than the average joe. That is just how it is. Deal with it. |
TV/Movies › Re: Nigerian Movies And Craze For Mansions And Big Cars by Ekealterego: 12:27pm On Feb 01, 2022 |
Litmus: Nigeria would be stupid doing as the OP suggest. I now no longer watch Nigeria comedies such as Emanuella and the rest because, they have become dirty looking, filthy and the people not as polished as Nigerians are in Nigeria. Also the characters have become mean, insulting to elders and generally carrying on in ways not typically Nigerian. I believe that the creators of these comedies are listening to the criticisms and advise of Africans that are not Nigerians, consistently the comedies are counteracting the positive effect on Nigeria that these comedies used to effect by showcasing the unique ways of Nigerians. What is "Nigerian culture"? Our cultures are not the same in any way. They are as different as night and day. The Igbos for instance do not kneel and roll on the floor while greeting an elder nor do they convey respect for elders in the same way. The Hausas are different from the Yorubas too. You have to understand that these people come from different cultural zones and sometimes might reflect it to some extent in their skits or humour. |

JANK23H: You don't have to guess,Baikie I think stated so,that the Igbos who landed in Bonny (as slaves) didn't come with any woman from their tribe.
Now you contradict yourself. You and your co-revisionists had earlier called the Kalabaris Igbo, and stated explicitly that Ijaws were Sierra Leone. At some point you said they lived only in boats as pirates.
It's the other way round.Igbo language infiltrated the Niger Delta, especially Ijaw land through marriage, and it's still going on as I speak in Bayelsa today. When did Baikie mention anything about wife? Baikie categorically stated that Bonny ancestory was unmistakably Igbo. It came from Pepple himself. When Crow and Baikie came, they confirmed that but also acknowledged that majority are Igbos with some few Brass tribes. No time in the history of these places have Ijaws ever ever been mentioned. Ijaws were only associated with piracy and river dwelling and of course. New Calabar are a mixture of people and Igbos being chiefly a part of this. Even Asari acknowledged his father, who was also a titled man, and his grandfather and great-grandfather who were chiefs were Igbo. This is in line with all these ancients Ethnographic text. That being said, Ijaw is a political expansionist movement rather than a tribe. That's why you all after groups that do not speak your language as far as they have oil and water. |
