Politics / I Got Over N1bn For Constituency Projects – Ned Nwoko by EkiranAlexmedia(m): 11:45am On Mar 17
A senator representing Delta North. Senatorial District, Ned Nwoko, has claimed that he received more than N1 billion for constituency projects in the 2024 budget.

Nwoko corroborated Senator Ali Ndume’s claims that the allocation of resources to the legislators often varies based on the magnitude of their constituency projects, indicating that it’s not uncommon for some, including himself, to receive larger amounts.

“Senators get what they lobby for, not because they have the right to it. Everybody just goes about doing what they can do for their constituencies and senatorial districts.

“A better approach would have been for senatorial uniformity. So if they say that everyone should get about N1 billion, be it. But this way, you rely on your weight and contacts to see what you can get for your people.

We are not talking about money for the senators. This is for projects within our senatorial districts. If you have road, water, or training programmes, all should aggregate to a particular amount,” the lawmaker revealed in a podcast released on Saturday.

Asked if he got as much as N1 billion in allocation, the senator replied, “Of course, I did. That’s why I am who I am. But these are projects for my people.”

Nwoko’s revelation is coming amid the recent controversy of budget padding alleged by Senator Abdul Ningi of the 2024 budget with an extra N3.7 trillion, a fund not tied to any extra project.

While the Red Chamber has denied any wrongdoing, some senators have come out to clarify the amount allocated to them for constituency projects in their various districts.

In reaction to the developments, Nwoko made it clear that the allocated funds are for financing projects, not for personal reimbursement of individual senators.

Politics / Shocking;music Helps Your Hens To Lay More Eggs by EkiranAlexmedia(m): 4:19pm On Dec 12, 2023
If you own a flock of chickens, you may have considered putting some music on for them. Is this a good idea; do chickens like music and are there any particular genres that are best or should be avoided? With these questions in mind I decided to delve into the research. I would like to share what I managed to find with you here today.

So, do chickens like music? Chickens do like music as long as it’s not too loud, or the beat is too fast. Chickens respond to music, especially if they are kept in coops or runs. Free-range chickens may or may not show an interest in music. Evidence from studies and research suggests that certain classical music songs help improve egg production and increase chick growth rate.

Studies show that music affects the mental health of listeners.

Both in humans and with animals. Yes, animals respond to music too.

Listening to music has both a positive and negative impact on its listeners.

If upbeat music with an excellent beat is played, it has been proven to improve well-being and morale.

Equally, heavy music can excite or even cause stress.

Chickens are not immune to these effects. This is why you need to ensure you are only playing appropriate music if you decide to do so.

Confused With How To Properly Care For Your Chickens?

We cut out all of the confusion with this practical and easy-to-follow complete guide.

You will learn to understand your chickens’ behavior, their entire needs along with a host of other essential chicken-keeping best practices.

Do Chickens Like Listening To Music?
While each bird is their own individual with unique preferences, it appears that many chickens like listening to music.

Research conducted on day-old chickens revealed that they prefer music to random sounds.

Laying hens who are exposed to music lay comparatively more eggs than their non-music listening counterparts.

It appears that chickens kept in coops appreciate listening to music more than free-range chickens.

Free-range chickens can wander off and don’t really have to sit and listen to music, never the less, many chickens like music.

You can boost the happiness of your hens by exposing them to pleasant music; chickens enjoy soothing music as much as we humans do.

Chickens are surprisingly intelligent and sensitive, so it should be of little surprise to people that they too can enjoy it when it is put on.

Of course, there are certain types that are preferable. Let’s look at the best ones in the following section.

What Music Do Chickens Like?
It appears that chickens like listening to classical music most.

Humans like pleasant sounds; these pleasant sounds are called consonant; they differ from unpleasant sounds called dissonant.

Humans enjoy harmonics, and consonant noted sound as if they were a single tone, while you can distinguish multiple tones from a dissonant note – this is related to harmonics.

Sounds are linked with preferences for harmonic relations between frequencies. Dissonant sounds are not related to harmonics.

As early as one day after birth, it seems that human babies’ brains can tell the difference between consonant and dissonant music.

The question still remains whether the preference for consonant sounds is innate to the properties of the auditory system or if the preference is down to culture or personal experience.

A study was carried out by the University of Trento in Italy, to see whether the preference for consonant music was something inherent or linked to culture and personal experience.

It appeared that the best way to test this was to do it using a controlled rearing study, whereby animals are reared from birth in a tightly controlled environment; since this cannot be done with human infants.

Chickens were used for this experiment as they don’t require parental care. Researchers took fertilized eggs from a neighborhood hatchery and kept them incubated in a soundproof room.

Each egg was put in its own coop on the last day of incubation so that the chicks couldn’t hear one another chirps after hatching.

In each coop was a red object suspended from a string, and each chick would imprint.

Each chick was moved into the middle of the testing coop. At the end of the coop were two speakers.

One speaker played a consonant variant of a melody, and the other played a dissonant variant of the same melody.

Beside each speaker was an object identical to the one the chicks were imprinted. After listening to the melodies for more than 30 seconds, each chick had six minutes to approach one of the two sides of the coop, as the music continued to play.

The researches deliberated that since the objects were found on either side of the testing coop, the chicks would be equally motivated to approach either the right side or the left side.

The chicks approached the side of the coop, playing consonant sounds more than the one playing the dissonant sounds.

Do Chickens React To Music?
Yes chickens react to music in different ways, depending on whether they like the music or not. They might even be indifferent to music, some do not react at all.

If day-old chicks respond to music, then there is no doubt that adult birds can respond to music in a more sophisticated way.

When chickens like or dislike something, they make their feeling known. Let’s discuss some of the ways chickens react to music, both positive and negative reactions:

Calm And Curious
If you play harmonious music, through a CD or if you go out with an acoustic guitar, your birds might lower their clucking, and slow down their movements and approach the source of music to sniff it.

This is an excellent response; it shows that they like the music and are curious about it. If you get this positive reaction, you should consider playing music that they like more often as it will keep them happy, relaxed, and productive.

Indifference
If you are playing music and the volume is just right, and you are getting no reaction, this music is doing nothing for your birds positively or negatively, keep trying until you find a song that they like.

Scattering And Loudly Clucking
If you see this type of reaction, it’s time to turn off the music; perhaps the volume is too loud. Chickens, like most animals, don’t like hard rock or metal, even some pop music can be overbearing.

If there is a lot of distortion in the music, it could frighten your hens, which is not the response you want, you want your birds to enjoy listening to music as much as you enjoy listening to music.

Do Chickens Lay More Eggs With Music?
Studies have confirmed that chickens can lay more eggs when listening to music. A study at Bristol university placed chickens in both silent nest-boxes and ‘musical boxes.’

After monitoring the laying hen’s preferences, the hens exposed to music laid more eggs than those not exposed to music.

In fact, just a few years ago, The Happy Egg Company released an album, the first-ever for the listening pleasure of hens, to help them feel more relaxed when they lay their eggs.

Amusingly, its called Top of the Flocks. You can listen to it here for free on Soundcloud.

Your birds can enjoy tracks from Beethoven and Mozart; it turns out that when hens listen to classical music, they increase egg-laying by 6%.

The study conducted with the University of Bristol revealed that hens are sensitive to loud noises, particularly 80 decibels or more. Loud music can have a severely negative impact on their well-being. The soothing tempo of classical music is the way to go with these birds.

If your birds are not laying eggs or laying very few, You could try an experiment with your birds. In the first week, don’t expose your hens to any music, take stock of the eggs produced at the end of the week.

In the second week, expose your hens to classical music, you should see comparatively more eggs in that week, some hen keepers report of having larger eggs than usual.

Some people have found that pop music has little to no effect on the egg production of hens and that rock music decreases the production of eggs and reduces the size of the eggs.

So the evidence shows that classical music helps to improve bird productivity, not only musical therapy increase egg production, it can help to increase the chick’s growth rate as well.

Some people have tried music with varying success; however, the music is too changeable, and there are too many words that only distract the birds.

Finally
Music is enjoyed universally by both humans and animals, chickens included. The positive impact of music is very apparent in chickens, Especially exposure to classical music.

The positive effect is shown by the increase in the production of eggs. Chickens are sentient beings and are sensitive to sounds and notes, just like humans and other animals.

Classical music clearly has a very soothing and therapeutic effect on chickens; it’s essential that any music you play for your birds is below 80 decibels.

Some chickens can fall asleep to music; it appears that music can soothe chickens to sleep. If you want improved egg-laying and sleeping patterns, gentle music helps a lot.

Music is beneficial for the overall health and well-being of your poultry birds. It’s incredible how even day-old birds show a preference for music as opposed to random sounds.

Strangely, a bird that can’t sing should have any interest in music, but it appears that they can tell the difference between consonant music and dissonant music.

If you have kept your chickens long enough, it’s easy to discern happy clucking sounds from unhappy ones, so they do make noises to communicate with each other.

They react to noises in their natural surroundings, so it is reasonable to conclude that suitable background music would mellow chickens out.

Have fun with your flock, trying out different types of music, and seeing the different reactions from them.

Celebrities / Why I Demanded Sex From Singer Simi-brymo by EkiranAlexmedia(m): 1:13am On Oct 01, 2023
Singer, Ọlawale Ọlọfọrọ, aka Brymo, has described his sex-for-music request from female colleague, Simisola Kosoko, simply known as Simi as an “artistic pursuit”

Brymo sparked controversy after he revealed in a voice note he posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he demanded a sexual relationship from Simi in lieu for a music collaboration.

This didn’t sit well with Simi’s husband, singer Adekunle Gold, who warned him to “stay away” from his wife and “stop disrespecting” his family.

However, in a recent interview with TVC, Brymo defended his sexual advances towards “Tiff” singer describing it as “an artistic pursuit.”

He said, “One day I was somewhere and I met Adekunle Gold, I was just like, ‘Oh! Gold.’ The first time I was ever meeting him. And he requested a collaboration… When he came to me, I just said flatly, ‘Oga, I’m not doing any collaboration right now.’

“Two weeks after, Simi came. I didn’t know they [Simi and Adekunle Gold were together]. I’m sure you all know about Falz. He took the fall that I was supposed to take. I was the target… But I’m a smart guy.

“When I saw her [Simi], I said no features except I am laying with the woman I am working with so it can really be intense. Did she not sleep with Adekunle Gold? Is that not why the music is extra good? But she said no, and I was like okay, bye-bye and then she left.

“She wasn’t the only one I proposed it to. But guess what? I’ve made music with seven women. I didn’t sleep with anyone of them.

“After that incident, I’ve recorded songs with four women. We didn’t even have that [sexual] conversation at all. We just made music. So, it wasn’t about me asking for sex for collaboration. No, no, it wasn’t about that. For me, it was an artistic pursuit.”

“After that incident, I’ve recorded songs with four women. We didn’t even have that [sexual] conversation at all. We just made music. So, it wasn’t about me asking for sex for collaboration. No, no, it wasn’t about that. For me, it was an artistic pursuit.”

Crime / Okada Rider Raped Eight Months Old pregnant Woman by EkiranAlexmedia(m): 11:51am On Jun 16, 2023
A 40-year-old motorcyclist, Akpo Igwe, has been arrested by men of the Benue State Police Command for allegedly raping an eight-month-old pregnant lady at Irabi Council Ward, in the Obi Local Government Area of the state.

A source in the victim’s family said she was returning from the market when she stopped the motorcyclist to take her home, adding that during the journey, the motorcyclist diverted into a bush and allegedly raped the victim.

The source said, “The incident happened last Wednesday around 7pm when the woman was returning from the market. She flagged down an Okada man and bargained with him to take her home.

“On their way, the Okada man diverted from the main road into a nearby bush, held her down and raped her. In the process, the woman passed out and the Okada man, thinking that she had died, dragged her out of the bush and dumped her by a river bank where she laid till the following day.

“When the victim woke up in the morning, she discovered that she was too weak to stand and so she just laid there praying for help.”

Meanwhile, at home, the source said the victim’s family had been searching for her throughout the night until she was found by the river bank.

“When we found her in that state, we quickly rushed her to the hospital while the matter was reported at the nearest police station leading to the arrest of the culprit. The woman is about eight months pregnant and is expected to deliver her baby in the next few weeks,” the family source said.

Our correspondent, however, learnt that the case had been transferred to the police headquarters in Makurdi.

Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, said, “The incident is confirmed”, Anene said.

NYSC @50: Buhari Grants 65 Ex-corpers Automatic Employment, Scholarships

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Thursday, in Abuja, granted automatic employment in the Federal Civil Service to 65 former members of the National Youth Service Corps.

In addition to the employment, Buhari also awarded them scholarships to pursue their education up to the doctorate degree level in any university of their choice within the country.

Furthermore, he announced a cash prize of N250,000 for each of the top award winners and N200,000 for other award recipients, including a physically-challenged ex-corps members under the NYSC Hope Alive Programme.

Buhari issued a directive to the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, the Federal Civil Service Commission, and the Minister of Education to implement the employment and offer scholarships.

The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, announced the development in a statement on Thursday titled ‘President Buhari grants 65 ex-corps members automatic employment, lists achievements of NYSC at 50.’

Speaking at the NYSC 50th Anniversary Honours Award held at the State House Conference Centre, the President said out of the 65 recipients, 52 individuals received the Presidential Honours Awards, while the remaining 13 were physically-challenged ex-corps members recognised under the NYSC Hope Alive programme.

He also paid tribute to corps members from the batches being honoured, who lost their lives under various circumstances while serving the nation.

‘‘But for their transitioning, some of them might have been here today as part of the honourees.

“May God grant their souls peaceful repose. They remain our heroes and heroines.

“The nation shall continue to remember their sacrifices towards building a strong, indivisible and egalitarian entity,’’ Buhari said.

Buhari congratulated the founding fathers, past and present managers of the NYSC on the scheme’s golden jubilee.

Some nicompoop are already complaining up there. You know why Nigeria has been stagnant? Because we don't celebrate the small wins then aspire from there.

20,000 universities were ranked from all countries around the world. Nigeria made it ti the list of 2,000 globally ranked universities and made it to 1,164, yet someone up there who probably doesn't even have a high school certificate is complaining.

Imagine Nigerian universities receiving the necessary support and funding, I am sure they will make it to to first 200.

Despite the strikes, underfunding, lack of equipments and resources, they still made the list.

So many American, Canadian, and British universities didn't make the list. I think they have done well considering the circumstances.

You are right bro, they tried.

Crime / Church Founder In Court For Raping Two Worshippers by EkiranAlexmedia(m): 5:08pm On Apr 17, 2023
Church founder in court for raping two worshippers

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Monday remanded a clergyman, Daniel Oluwafeyiropo, for allegedly raping two of his church members (names withheld).

Justice Ramon Oshodi remanded the founder of “I Reign Christian Ministry” in Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.

Oshodi admitted the defendant to N20 million bail with two sureties in like sum.

He said one of the sureties must be the owner of a build-up property in Lagos State and the property must be enough to cover the bail sum.

“The original document of the landed property must be submitted to the chief registrar of Lagos State.

“The sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must have three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State,” he said.

The judge also ordered the defendant to deposit his international passport with the chief registrar of the court and ordered an accelerated hearing of the case.

Oshodi adjourned the case until May 9 for trial.

Earlier, the defence counsel, Mr Olukunle Oyewole, while moving his bail application dated April 10, urged the court to grant bail to the defendant on liberal terms.

Oyewole argued that the defendant had been on police administrative bail since May 20, 2023, and had made himself available to the police.

“My lord, the defendant was not informed on the day the matter came up for the first time before this court.

“The defendant is a well-known religious leader and he has shown by his action that he will not jump bail.
“The offence for which he is charged is a bailable offence and he has credible sureties that can stand for him,” he said.

The state leads prosecution counsel, Mr Babjide Boye, in his counter affidavit dated April 14, urged the court to refuse the bail application of the defendant, however, left it at the discretion of the court.

Boye, however, argued that the offence was a serious one and the likelihood of conviction might put the defendant at flight risk.

“There is also a possibility of the defendant interfering with the prosecution witnesses.

“He is a bishop of so many branches and if granted bail, he may use his position to influence the prosecution witnesses as he is regarded as a man of authority who has the possibility of committing the same crime.

“We urge the court to deny the defendant bail because he has failed to provide the court exceptional circumstances to grant him bail,” the prosecutor submitted.

Oluwafeyiropo was earlier arraigned on a two-count bordering on rape.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to the prosecution, the defendant allegedly committed the offences sometime in June 2020 at Ikota Villa Estate, Lekki, Lagos.

According to the prosecution, the alleged offence contravened Sections 260 (2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
