Literally every implication in this argument is wrong, lol. Federal allocation is not proportional to IGR alone. IGR alone is not a proxy for wealth, unless one also normalizes for population. Just too many holes in the reasoning here. Not to mention that it contradicts known facts about poverty in Nigeria, on state vs. state basis.. |
Let's assume all of that is true (it isn't, btw. Federal allocation is not purely a function of IGR.) Is 2nd lowest allocation the same as 2nd lowest per capita allocation? Is 2nd lowest IGR the same as 2nd lowest IGR per capita? Clearly it is not.. If you want to talk about wealth/poverty/etc, at a minimum you need to be using the right units (per capita) rather than aggregate units. The leap from federal allocation to 2nd poorest state in Nigeria makes no sense logically, as you can see. Anyway not only does it not make sense logically, it contradicts known measured data from a variety of sources. Including this document: http://www.nigerianstat.gov.ng/uploads/latestRelease/4c6807f6bf92fb3f71084f3a48964c305c68ccad.pdf which was recently discussed on NL. |
=> means implies, just in case you were confused. |
OK. So by your logic, 2nd lowest allocation => 2nd poorest state. Is this correct? I don't want to misrepresent your reasoning before I dismantle it. |
I do not know what is up with you and selective quoting. Why did you not quote the paragraph before? Besides that, the government has realized the fact that Ekiti State, when you look at the revenue allocation table, is number 35 out of the 36 states in Nigeria, but looking at all the lofty ideas and vision that the governor has, the government has been looking at alternative sources of funding for some of the government activities. So he has been approaching some donor agencies.Again....like my very first post pointed out. Second lowest allocations != second poorest state. I know that logic and reasoning are not strengths of yours KoboJ. But surely even you understand this. |
This isn't rocket science. If you make a claim like "second poorest", then you have to back it up. You Kobo are using Sun as your reference. Sun has no reference..the text in red isn't supported by any actual statements or facts. Thus the claim is unsupported. Furthermore, it isn't on me to talk to Sun regarding their headline. The onus is on you to back your your statements with fact. You have failed in this regard. Perhaps not too surprising...you aren't mentally equipped for this type of thing. |
Notice immediately after your text in red which you quoted is the word "Excerpts". In other words, the red text wasn't a part of the actual interview that took place. It isn't a quote from the governor or any government officials. Just Sun (and evidently your own) interpretation of the interview. Despite nowhere in the the interview anyone actually claiming what you say. |
And then when she is owned on the first point she raised and is too cowardly to try to support her second point, she says, "back to topic." I do not have much patience for stark raving m0rons like you, Kobo. |
I have never seen or heard of a woman as dumb as this Kobojunkie. And the worst thing too, is rather than keeping silent in her stvpidity, she is very loud, open and proud of it. Amazing. |
Kobo. You are an id1ot. You googled for an article to support your point, and didn't even bother to read it. Sun news is fond of posting sensationalist headlines for dummies like you. But if you'd actually read the article, you've have seen that it was saying "2nd lowest federal allocations in Nigeria", not 2nd poorest. Why are you so dumb? What was the purpose of you going to school if you won't use your brain and reason properly? Whoever paid for your education deserves a refund. |
I am waiting for you to provide evidence of excessively high birth rates in Ekiti..... |
Kobojunkie: Ekiti, announced 2nd poorest state in Nigeria last year by sunnewsonline. That article doesn't support your argument for two reasons: 1. It says that Ekiti gets the 2nd lowest allocations in Nigeria. But federal allocations alone do not define poverty/wealth. 2. Even if federal allocations alone defined poverty/wealth, once obviously should look at a PER CAPITA figure rather than aggregate. I mean, there was even a recent post that discussed poverty state by state (https://www.nairaland.com/917560/67-igbos-poor-compared-59.1) Please try to use your brain every now and again...it isn't by force to be an id1iot. |
texazzpete: Is there no limit to human stoopidity?lmao ![]() |
Which state is this you are talking about with one of the highest poverty rates in Nigeria, and also a high birth rate? I doubt Ekiti is even in the top half either of those metrics, let alone both. |
mapet: by what statsSearch around on google a bit...there was some report listing airports in Nigeria by revenue or something. Anyway I distinctly remember reading a report saying that only a few are profitable...the rest lose money. If it were up to me, I'd keep those in Lagos, the one in Ibadan, and then close down the rest. Like I said, Yorubaland isn't that big a place. The problem is that the roads in the country are so bad that what should be a quick journey takes much longer than it should.. |
There are only 3 airports in Nigeria today which break even or are profitable: Lagos, Kano, and PH. The rest are money-losing. The worst thing too about building an airport in Ekiti is that it will weaken the one in Akure...they'll steal traffic from each other and thus both be sickly. Better to have one strong airport than two weak ones. Too many reasons why this is a bad idea |
It appears that no summary is forthcoming for the lazy like myself ![]() |
lordZOUGA: I do understand your point but then... Any scripting language can do this. Yes?Any one which has good libraries available for whatever application area you are investigating so you don't have to waste your time reinventing the wheel or fighting some poorly written or documented library, yes. |
The place my folks live in a suburb of Houston is about 1 hour away from the airport. There is another airport 30 minutes away, but whenever you go on Expedia to search for airplane tickets, typically the ones flying out of George Bush intercontinental are cheaper. Place where I live, takes me about an hour to get to the two airports. It doesn't take more than an hour to get to Akure from most places in Ekiti. It takes less than 3-4 hours to get from Ekiti to Lagos, and this is even with terrible roads... Clearly building additional airports should be at the bottom of the priority list. |
The distance from Ado-Ekiti to Akure would be like 30 minutes on a good road. Rather than seeing about building an amazing road from Ado to Akure, the governor is investigating an airport ![]() What is the use of all this education he obtained if he won't think rationally and intelligently? Instead he is behaving quite senselessly. SW Nigeria sef is about the size of New York State....it isn't a huge place and doesn't need imo more than the Ibadan, Lagos, and Akure airports...anything else is a waste |
I guess my own perspective is different. We had a bunch of ideas we wanted to try. Didn't know a priori which (if any) of them are any good. So we needed to QUICKLY get code up to run experiments and figure out which algorithms work well. So we couldn't invest enormous amounts of time in a super-fast C++ or C implementation of each...after all, you could sink in a bunch of time and then find out that the algorithm performs terribly on the data set of interest. You sort of see the point? If you are coming across a new problem for which there isn't a textbook answer or something already in a library and you need to quickly get a sense of what works well and what doesn't, then in my opinion, use a scripting language like Python. Once you are sure that your idea works and it can/will make you rich, you can then hire a C++ guy to implement a fast version of it anyways ![]() |
both of 'em screwed up |
I'm not arguing for Python over PHP, Ruby, Java, C, C++ for all applications, mind you. If you want to write websites, pretty much any of the major scripting languages are solid choices (though personally I prefer Ruby for this.) If you want to write low-level systems software, then you have to use C or C++. If you want to prototype algorithms or math software, in my opinion the best choices are Matlab or Python. If you need the ability to run your applications on any type of system but higher performance than scripting languages, go for Java. So it really 100% depends on what type of application you are doing. |
megaplaza: my point is that the feature you need in a language might be available but because you are not aware of it, once you see another language with that feature, you will say ok this (the new one) is better. So maybe he doesnt know about Java statistics api/numerical lib that can be used to perform intense numeric computationAgain, he isn't an id1ot. He looked around, googled around for tools to use. My point is, those tools don't allow you to get your work done as efficiently as tools better suited for rapid development. |
@megaplaza: The Java programmer is actually pretty good imo. Like, in this group, it wasn't as if any of us are much better/worse programmers than the other...all approximately equally talented at programming. |
I don't need any long and excessive titles. A simple "my lord and master" suffices. ![]() |
Fayimora: graph theory and linear programming. Python has some really good options for these two things (a library called networkx, and several different python LP tools.) Ruby...the options I found were either immature or looked like abandonware (not been updated in years...) |
I said it before in this thread and I'll say it again..Fayemi is a foolish man |
Amen! |
Ekiti governor is a foolish man |
For our project, we had one guy who spent a ton of time writing stuff in Java wasting his time implementing low-level features. His stuff didn't work. The other two of us did Ruby (me) and Python (the other guy) respectively, and got a ton of work done in our time frame. You can always optimize away bottlenecks later...first important to get up something running before you worry about speed imo. |
