It has been 10,000 years since woolly mammoths last roamed the earth, but if scientists in South Korea have their way the giant creatures could come back to life. Russian academics have signed a deal with Hwang Woo-Suk from South Korea’s Sooam Biotech Research Foundation to attempt to clone an extinct mammoth. For the cloning, the Korean scientists will utilize bone marrow in well-preserved mammoth bones that were discovered last summer in the thawed permafrost of Siberia. http://inhabitat.com/south-korean-scientists-announce-plan-to-clone-a-woolly-mammoth/ |
strong ijebu juju was no doubt involved, to affect a man in california all the way from africa ![]() |

Just go to the website, read and follow the instructions dude..... |
What do you intend to do for a living? Start your own business or work for someone else? I have a high opinion of Port Harcourt myself (having lived there briefly), but don't know much about how it compares to other major Eastern cities as far as business potential. |
mkmyers45: You are right....i am just worried that the world is moving faster than they are evolvingWell that is the issue. The North at best is progressing at a glacial place. While other places are developing/improving a lot more rapidly. So the gap will only get bigger and bigger with time... When the descendants of illiterate pagans from deep in the Ekiti bush (like me) have surpassed you, then one should probably realize that something is wrong.. |
The south is of course not problem free. But I think that we are more honest about our problems and deficiencies. Less ostrich mentality. In a more perfect world, Nigeria would be split apart and most of us wouldn't have to care about the problems of the north, any more than we care about what is going on in Niger Republic, Chad, etc. But alas, the problems of the north seem to spill over and negatively affect us.. |
And the saddest thing about all of this is that it is those who should be pained most by this, most angry about the lack of progress, nay, regression in the North say things like "go visit Kano." Me, if my shoe is hurting my toe, nobody else should have to tell me to change into better fitting shoes. |
Or maybe none of those things matter. Maybe life expectancy doesn't matter. Maybe JAMB pass rates don't matter. Maybe literacy doesn't matter. Perhaps I should do what she suggests and visit Kano. Maybe then what I see there with my eyes will tell me that life in Kano is just as comfortable for your average indigene there as elsewhere, despite all of the data suggesting the opposite... Anyway, the point of all of this is that there is much work to be done. This mentality of "well, everywhere in Nigeria is equally bad" is a silly one. |
The thing is, how backwards must one be if folks from the Ekiti bush have 1. far higher literacy rates 2. JAMB exam pass rates 3. higher life expectancy, 4. university admission rates, etc than you? There was a time when Kano was the most important city in this part of the world. Yet now, it is a breeding ground for fundamentalism, poverty, etc. The future of that town and indeed the entire region is quite dismal. So something must have gone very wrong if folks who were stark illiterates ~150 years ago are outperforming you by every measurable index. |
And the longer you wait to confront this issue, the further behind you will fall. Time waits for no man. The world waits for no man. If you continue to bury your head in the sand, others will simply zoom past you. Imagine, under 20 people passing high school exit exams in an entire state. Na wa o |
Lol. When people say what you just said, I realize that they don't understand the issues. Which Northern state was it that had under 20 people pass some exam? When probably 10X+ that number pass the exam from my town alone? Indeed, the south is no better than the north. GDP/capita of ~$750 in the North, double that in the south, yet some are saying there is no difference. It is only either a fool or a person who hates the north and doesn't want them to progress who will say that there is no difference between it and the south. That is ostrich mentality, pretending that a problem doesn't exist because you are too afraid to confront it... |
denzel2009: Apparently, they are targeting mobile users. Then make a mobile version and a separate non-mobile version? Like any other site does? Just because you are targeting mobile users doesn't mean you have to ruin the experience of everyone else... |
This is one thing about Africa that I don't understand. There is this mentality since the 60s that anything western is bad, or that we should do things in an "African" way. I suppose it is tied with colonialism, trying to show that you are your own person or whatever. But...why not just do what is most effective rather than necessarily what you invented/came up with yourself? Western education has led to excellent results for those who have adopted it. Why is there a pressing need to find something else? Islamic/Arabic style education doesn't work for the modern world. Those countries don't invent anything and aren't competitive scientifically...tiny Singapore probably out-competes the entire middle east + North Africa (minus Iran and Israel) combined. Reject ineffective techniques and embrace effective ones, imo. |
UAE (well, Dubai at least) has pretty much copied the West whole-heartedly. I don't understand why people are so opposed to copying what works. Japanese people had no problems doing this, and turned their formerly primitive country into a first-world nation. Same with Singapore. Coping what is GOOD makes sense. Rejecting what is good and effective just because it comes from somewhere else tends to lead to bad results. With the prime example of this being Northern Nigeria... |
I would also suggest forum avatars. In my opinion, before you guys decided to start designing your own forum, you should have spent some time learning about the features and design of other forums. Would have made your life a lot easier. |
Seun: We are not professional designers, but we are damn good programmers. Have you not noticed this?Hire a designer. Probably $2000 or so will get you a nice, professional design for this site rather than the current messy one you have. I've used a guy in Poland before who does good work. I can put you in touch with him. |
I don't think there is any forum I've ever run across before that is center-aligned. This imo is what you should go for, this look: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewforum.php?f=46 Nice, clean, well-organized, easy on the eyes. Or this: http://punbb.informer.com/forums/ |
Lots of factual inaccuracies in the above, no? |
Also, I would be happy if the logout button actually worked. I click logout, it keeps me logged in... |
The site is looking better. However, it would be nice if forum threads were not center-justified. Instead they should be left-justified, as it was before. |
This whole thing annoys the hell out of me. Well, many things in Ogun State do for that matter, but this is just the latest.. |
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/03/ogun-residents-in-financial-mess-as-banks-shut-doors-indefinitely/ See, this is why I wonder why more are not in support of state police. What exactly is the state governor supposed to do, given that he doesn't control the police in his state? If the FG doesn't provide adequate security, unfortunately I am not sure what the alternative is aside from banks hiring their own private security outfits or something.. |
nice |
Does she have intestinal worms? wtf |
The funny thing about this is that I'm not even some sort of shareholder in the American education system...I could care less whether anyone thinks it is good or not. I'm not the type of guy who says what I say due to "rah rah, America rox" or "rah rah, Nigeria rox" sentiment. I dunno, maybe I'm expected to celebrate this because it was made by a Nigerian. And moreover, one of my co-ethnics, a Yoruba like myself! Alas, I just can't do that...gotta call a spade a spade. If something is good, it is good. If it is bad, it is bad. Saying up is down out of some sense of misplaced jingoism is really silly to me, personally |
This is a relatively simple issue. The device doesn't work as described, and cannot. And if you couldn't smell from a mile away why this is true, or even worse still don't get it now, then that is very unfortunate. Perhaps it was unnecessary for me to take shots at the Naija education system. But...whatever, not anything worth getting too upset over. Certainly I don't intend on retracting what I said. I 100% stand by it. |
Nope. Cultural background alone is never a deal breaker for me. If we get along fine, doesn't matter if she is from Uzbekistan.. |
The OP is a coward, snake, scoundrel and a fool. |
