Lonely Island is amazing ![]() "Jizzed in my pants" and "I'm on a boat" are also classics |
Katsumoto:I'm not trying to colonize Niger State. Or remove Nupe sovereignty, or whatever. They are certainly entitled to go whichever way they want. But I just think that if naija scatters, their southern neighbors (us) can offer them something a bit more attractive than their northern neighbors (Hausa-Fulani). If they don't want to come along, no wahala. . . it is their choice entirely. Anyway, alright. If SW doesn't want them too, then there is nothing I can do about that. I just think that it would make sense to at least explore the option, rather than ruling it out entirely. |
How is Lagos financing the deficit? And what interest rate is it paying? Also, what is the GDP of Lagos. . . trying to figure out how much this 3% is. Anyway, not terrible, but needs to be watched carefully. |
By Ekene Okoro , Snr. Reporter, Lagos Lagos State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Ben Akabueze, said on Wednesday the state is likely to run deficit budgets until 2013. He added, however, that the state was looking forward to running a deficit-free budget in the nearest future. Addressing a press conference to herald the 4th year in office of Governor Babatunde Fashola-led administration, Akabueze noted that the state was not constrained to run a deficit budget as it has done since the inception of the present administration. “There is no way we will run deficit budget in perpetuity. However, in our medium Term Budget Framework up till 2013, we have projected to run deficit budget. “But the deficit is within a prudential limit and it cannot exceed the international benchmark of 3 percent of our Gross Domestic Product (GDP). “As we at Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget keep track of the deficit as percentage of GDP ratio, the public finance’s Debt Management Office is also tracking the deficit in relation to the overall revenue capacity of the state. So the deficit is managed at two different ends.” Speaking on the debt profile of the state, Akabueze noted that the judgment that the state was one of the highest indebted states in the country was not viewed from the economic point of view, but rather on the surface. He said: “When you make a statement that a state is carrying the highest debt, the truth is that, that really doesn’t inform the public, because when it comes to debt, it’s about your carrying capacity. “Nigeria owes $35 bllion and it was classified unsustainable, it’s about your carrying capacity. “If Lagos, given the size of the economy and the annual budget of N450 billion, if it owes N100 billion that is just barely about 22 per cent of its budget for one year. “If a state whose annual budget is N30 billion, if that state owes only half of what Lagos owes, it means that state owes nearly two years budget. “So when you say, Lagos debt is higher than that state, you haven’t said much. Take the information you have and do a proper debt sustainability analysis”. http://www.independentngonline.com/DailyIndependent/Article.aspx?id=33240 |
Genny is cute, but Dbanj can get much hotter and younger chicks Oh well, congrats to both of them if this is true |
@Katsumoto: If it is IBB and Abdulsalami you fear. . . well both are old men. Who knows how much longer they have? In any case, their power comes from the "North", not Niger State alone. If you separate Niger State from the north, then their power largely goes away. Regarding Niger State and population issues. . . well, it pushes the window out further by a # of years. I'd rather have a territory of 200,000+ square km rather than one of only 125K square km, if all I have to do is to not name my country "Odua Republic." Who cares about the name, anyway? Shouldn't be that high on the priority list. |
@Andre Uweh/abadaba: It isn't by force that you must post in every thread. If you don't like the topic, feel free to find another thread that you enjoy. |
bleh I should have known better than to do this You win Kobojunkie, the budget is infinite, they have an infinite # of naira to spend on each school ![]() |
@seanet02: Fair enough. My own view is a bit different. . . if naija scatters, you want to think not only of your immediate needs, but of your future needs (needs several hundred years into the future, even.) Niger State is a huge swath of land that is also largely empty. If you add it now, then 500 years from now you'll have a place for your population to expand into. Seems shortsighted to pass up the opportunity to add prime land to your territory over a name issue. Agreed, my Yoruba needs to get better. But hard to find time. |
Well, in general, limits and #s of this sort are usually due to funding constraints. And this quote suggests that that 500 is all the money allows for good teaching and quality graduates: She urged the vice- chancellors to ensure strict compliance with the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) guidelines on the carrying capacity of the universities set up as specialised institutions, saying, “we really want to have control so that we can have more effective teaching and quality graduates in these institutions. |
Kobojunkie, so what would you do? You have a budget that is enough for a university with 500 students. With that budget, your 500 students will get an excellent education. Now, how would you expand it to more than 500 students, with that same budget you have? |
^-- hehe ![]() Fair enough. I'm probably not the best person to be choosing the name. The reason why I'm against ethnic names like that. . . well, what if Niger State and the non-Yoruba parts of Kogi are invited? They don't have any connection to Odua. Etc, etc. Niger State in particular, Nupes have no reason to prefer Hausa-Fulani to us. Yorubaland is far richer than Hausaland, gives them access to the sea, etc. If you are a bit more inclusive, you can add that territory to your nation. Basically, you want to be inclusive rather than exclusive, in my opinion. Is it really necessary to name your country Odua Republic? |
Building a good graduate is like building a car, perhaps ![]() I dunno, I don't view universities as too different from any other sort of business. . . I think in most cases, people shouldn't try to do more than their resources will allow. If 500 is what the resources allocated to these universities allow, let them start with that and manage it well. Then expand later. Anyway, we already have enough half-baked graduates in Nigeria. Why not try producing more good ones? |
Which kain hope can still be alive when she was roundly defeated? ![]() Only hope can be for a ministerial appointment of some sort |
bleh They are taking the right approach. Start out at 500, manage that # well. Then you can expand to 5000 later down the line. Better than starting out with 5K and botching it. Doesn't make sense to bite more than you can chew. . . |
@OP: That remains TBD. Starting to appear that the PDP branch of the SW stands a good chance of retaining at least a few of their own positions. Let's at least wait to see how things shake out. . . nothing tackier than prematurely declaring victory/defeat |
@Jarus: If you don't know how to swim yet, please get lessons and learn It is very easy to learn, and could come in very handy one day. |
Should be a very high-quality product, then. |
Well said, Ngige. @Beaf: Keep my name out of your mouth, cvnt. |
I've never been a fan of names like the Odua Republic. A bit too ethnic, no? Thinking something more generic and nonspecific like "West African Federation", something like that might be better. I dunno, just my own opinion. |
Looks like they already do car transport a bit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NLbwrzrpJY Wish I knew what the economics of this looks like |
This is actually very interesting. What would be amazing is if you could drive your car/truck/bus onto some sort of ferry very cheaply, effectively turning the sea into another road. Hmm |
By GODWIN ORITSE THERE is a boom in the boat market as Chief Executives of both Government and private organisations now prefer going to work by boats and other water crafts in and around Lagos Island so as to beat the crazy Lagos traffic. Confirming this development, a boat maker and Chief Executive of Topher Zhang Mr Chris Ajayi, said that there is certainly a boom in the boat market following the increase in the purchase of boats by chief executives of companies and parastatals who now use boats to beat the chaotic traffic situation in Lagos. “The reality is that more Nigerians are now using boats and other water crafts to move around Lagos in a bid to avoid traffic. We at Topher Zhang are strategising to be part of the expected growth in the waterways transport of the economy as more clients are also placing orders for boats” Ajayi stated. He disclosed that the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) is also preparing to give support to the growth of water transport in Lagos He however noted that there is still a low level of local competence in the art of boat making in Nigeria, adding that his firm has commenced the training of its personnel in the act of boat making abroad. The boat maker further disclosed that the new trend in water transport has also put the regulatory authorities on their toes as they are also looking at ways of regulating the sector for security and safety. Some boat owners who spoke to Vanguard said that they will now rather invest in the purchase of boats than cars considering the ever increasing traffic situation in Lagos. According to Captain Baiyee Suleiman , consultant to the African Circle Marine waste management Company Limited he comes to work in Apapa and goes back to his home in Victoria Island every day with a boat he bought about a year ago. Mr Seni Edu, General Manager Eko Support Services who also said he uses the water ways to move back and fort for ease of transport told Vanguard it is the quickest mode of transport now in Lagos . The Managing Director of A P Moller Terminals Mr Dallas Hampton is equally one of the top chief executives that has found succor in the water ways to beat the Lagos traffic. The Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Mr Patrick Akpobolokemi also prefers the waterways for his movement around Apapa. It will be recalled that the Lagos State Waterways Authority in its last rider ship survey disclosed that over 170,000 commuters use the water ways every day. LASAW ‘s Managing Director, Mr Yinka Marihno said that the authority envisages an increase in the number of commuters that will be using the water ways in the future. He added that growing the water ways transport is part of government plan to make Lagos the dream city for every one. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/05/boat-market-booms-as-ceos-embrace-water-transport/ |
Really impressive. Kudos to them. Btw, first video was interesting to watch. . . if Amina's father had not shown such an interest in educating his daughter in the 60s and 70s, doubtful any of this would have happened. |
That is the eBay guy, right? Congratulations to SR! |
*dj khaled voice* "we da best!" |
@dem_people: Personally, I don't much care if anyone likes Tinubu or not. . . you are free to dislike him, or the ACN. It isn't by force. Heck, I don't much like Tinubu either. . . I just recognize that he is a necessary tool right now. Just don't falsely accuse either. If you want to make innuendo about Tinubu being a drug dealer. . . fine, then I'll say you worship Ibori and Alams. After all, if we want to resort to lies and slander, then what is good for the goose is good for the gander. |
https://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41091000/jpg/_41091198_bayelsa203afp.jpg Nice crib that ol boy built. . . How can Beaf support criminals like Alams and Ibori? Building homes like that while his own people starve? ![]() Very shameful stuff. . . being pro criminality and cross-dressing. Shame on you |
Truth be told though, Ibori's own is probably even worse than Alams. Sadly, there aren't as many entertaining pictures about him. You'd think there'd be pictures of him skiing in that indoor ski resort in Dubai, right? Media hasn't done a good enough job finding entertaining pictures. Can you imagine, a man stealing $3 billion+ from his own people? Robbing his own people blind? Very shameful that Beaf would support criminals like Ibori and Alams. Very, very shameful. |
