Wait. . . they agreed to give GEJ the questions ahead of time for this debate?  undecided

I wanted to see how he thinks on his feet.
Politics / Re: Presidential Debate on NN24 by ekubear1: 10:03pm On Mar 18, 2011
Will there be another debate? Or is this the only one?
Politics / Re: Presidential Debate on NN24 by ekubear1: 9:54pm On Mar 18, 2011
PapaBrowne:

Ribadu just spoilt any chances he has left!! Buhari's rating would dip after today's performance.

Wrong again! Ribadu doing poorly means more votes for Buhari!

Or you think people will switch votes to the man who skipped taking the exam?  grin grin grin

Goodluck is not escaping that easily tongue
Politics / Re: Presidential Debate on NN24 by ekubear1: 9:53pm On Mar 18, 2011
lol @ the three votes for GEJ.

Though he did a good job avoiding the debate, so he wasn't torn apart by Shekerau  grin grin grin

I want to see the two of them debate!
Politics / Re: Who Is The Presenter Of The Debate.? She's Too by ekubear1: 9:50pm On Mar 18, 2011
I'm impressed. She did a great job.
Politics / Re: Presidential Debate on NN24 by ekubear1: 9:48pm On Mar 18, 2011
@9ijaMan: Like I said, I'll dig deeper.
Politics / Re: Presidential Debate on NN24 by ekubear1: 9:40pm On Mar 18, 2011
9ijaMan:

I'm a fan of Buhari and will definitely still support him as he's the one out of the 3 with the best chance of unseating GEJ. That being said, Shekarau is not as corrupt as the US paints him. Those who were in Kano before he came into power are giving him a pass mark for performance with the current development witnessed in the state. Could he have done better? Yes.
Shekarau is indeed a saint when compared to most of the governors down south.

I'll look more deeply into it. But this is not the first time I've heard of his corruption. I'll see if I can find the article I read some time ago.

WHo cares what the US government thinks

They dont have a good understanding of whats on ground.

Let them shove their assessment of Shekerau. They are prolly confusing Kwakwanso with Shekerau,

They understand what is on the ground better than you, me, or anyone else on this forum. They have access to the Shell plants in the Nigerian government, and direct access to politicians.

You and I do not.
Politics / Re: Presidential Debate on NN24 by ekubear1: 9:32pm On Mar 18, 2011
Here is the US gov't assessment of Shek:

11. (C) Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekerau: ANPP Governor; leads most populous state in the north; helped stop PDP from stealing state election in 2003 and 2007; of late, Shekerau has been a disappointment as he has done little for his state; his popularity also has tanked since he fell out with former presidential candidate Buhari.

I think we all know what it means when a state with huge federal government allocations like Kano sees no progress  grin grin grin

Shek speaks well and is clearly intelligent, but it appears that he is corrupt.

Shekarau-
Excellent, strong on issues, understands Governance and very coherent!!! Scored points on all issues. His power sector approach is private sector driven which is very impressive!!
Negatives- Couldn't find any really. He did a good job defending his Hisbah police even though I dont like them!!

Ribadu-
Not Good, only point was scored on power and private sector participation but his answers were too bland. He was too brash in his responses and his grasp on issues are poor. His coherence is fair, but his delivery style is bad!! Acts like he is in a fight! The debate exposed his capacity to flout laid down procedure!! Still like him though!! He will make a good minister in any government!

Buhari
Buhari was the most disappointing!! Sometimes I had to feel so sorry for him!! He obviously doesn't understand the issues plaguing Nigeria. His had no answers on Education, Power ,the Niger Delta and the econpomy. Doesn't look like someone that has drawn up a plan yet .His coherence is soo poor! His answers don't make sense. And he is obviously not very intelligent and hasn't done a lot of reading!! I like him and respect his integrity, but that surely isn't enough for a country this complex!!

GEJ
I have only one word for him- Zero!!!

Fine, we get it, you hate Buhari and are a GEJ shill  grin grin grin

No reasonable person could say that Buhari was the most disappointing here. Ribadu was.

Of course, since Buhari is the biggest threat to your beloved GEJ, you must pull him down  grin

@ Eku bear, GBM answered the question on health care very well. In fact, that is the question he answered very well in the entire debate apart from his opening remarks! Watch that part again!

No, he did not! He said something about infrastructure, digging wells, stopping fake drugs from being imported.

Fake drugs is the biggest problem with the nigerian medical system ?!?!?!

Not lack of hospitals, poor pay (the strike in Lagos is a GREAT example of this), or a myriad of other issues

At the top of his list for healthcare is fake drugs and boreholes

That is just a moronic answer, man.

Kilode?!:

It's high time we introduced Public speaking, communication and speech as cumpulsory courses in our Sec Schools and Universities undecided

Or we just let our people speak their local languages and hire translators. . .

You are blaming local language?!?!?!

That is a VERY weak excuse.

If I ask you, "How would you resolve the Jos crisis?", then you think Buhari would have answered the question better in Hausa or Fulani?

He simply has no clue what the answer is! He went on a tangent about nomads grazing. That is NOT the question being asked.

So he'd have answered the question properly if we'd asked it in Hausa

overhyped:

Folks, this is the first time most of us are seeing Gen Buhari speak in the public. Those of us who have been following him for some time know that he is not the most articulate politician. But I am very certain that his heart is very articulate. More so, he came across tonight as calm, kool and presidential.

BB all the way!

It is not an issue of articulate. He cannot think on his feet or answer questions. He didn't answer Jos or many other questions. He didn't answer healthcare. He kept answering unrelated questions, or talking about something completely different.

Look, I'm not saying I'll reject him. Being incorrigible and upright is important. He doesn't have to do much thinking, I guess the guys he selects to work for him will do it for him  grin

But he is not very impressive intellectually. That is a bit unfortunate.

Who was this Ibime jackass who was crowing about Ribadu going to Oxford or Harvard some months ago?  undecided

Shekarau is VERY corrupt, unfortunately. Clearly the most intelligent guy, but too corrupt.

I like him otherwise, though!

Rofl @ Ribadu falling flat on his face.

Ribadu is answering the wrong question. She asked you about Jos, not Boko Haram.

Buhari. . . how the FVCK is that going to help, dude?

Shut up, you don't know the answer.

Jos crisis has nothing to do with nomads. . .
