Wow. Sad and strange. |
Lol, Stalin was a crazy dude ![]() |
^-- Nah, it is the truth. Guy I talked to does market research stuff, so would know. Feel free to mention any LGs you know where you think this is false, though. |
Jenifa_:Interesting: While some have speculated over the origin of Fulani people, current linguistic and genetic evidence suggests an indigenous West African origin among the Peul.[3] The vast majority of genetic lineages associated with them reflect those most commonly seen in other west Africans. Their language is also of west African origin, most closely related to that of the Wolof and Serer ethnic groups.[1]. Historical and archaeological records indicate that Peul-speakers have resided in western Africa since at least the 5th century A.D. as well. Interestingly, rock paintings in the Tassili n'Ajjer suggests the presence of proto-Fulani cultural traits in the region by at least the fourth millennium B.C. Scholars specializing in Fulani culture believe that some of the imagery depicts rituals that are still practiced by contemporary Fulani people.[4]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fula_people They don't look like Africans to me. . . they look kind of weird. But I guess they legitimately natives of this continent. |
Running a territory of 17+ million people on a shoestring budget ($2.5 billion or whatever the amount is), and running it well is impressive. Kudos, Fashola. |
It has nothing to do with "english being our language." She could have gone to school in Poland for all I care. But wouldn't one expect a person who spends 4 years in a Polish university, majoring in psychology and biology to be able to speak Polish Not to talk of someone who not only went to college in Poland, did all her high school there, etc, etc.Or are you all saying that English is also not the language of Nigeria universities? ![]() So what language do they speak at University of Port Harcourt? What language do the lecturers and students speak? Pidgin? Ijaw? Igbo ![]() If you are telling me that they don't speak English at that university, fine, that is a whole different matter. I'll excuse her. But somehow I doubt that. |

I'm happy that the ACN is making inroads in the middle belt. That is an excellent development. If GEJ wins, probably not the end of the world. And if he does very poorly, he can be booted out in 2015. |

sbeezy8:There is not a single LG in Lagos where even 35% of the population is Igbo. I asked someone who would know this very well. It is mostly just propaganda. Don't mind it too much. |
Very mixed feelings about this. I'm mostly against it. . . but perhaps it isn't a bad idea. |

On a serious note, is this a common thing in Nigeria? People graduating from college but not being able to speak English? Who would want to hire such once they finish? Seems like a waste of time spending so many years in school and not coming out with some basic skills. Especially as a humanities grad (psychology). Wouldn't she have had to read and write lots of essays and stuff? |

Do they lecture in pidgin at that university? How did Ublela get a degree ![]() And not just a degree, a degree in both bio and psych. Sounds very suspect. |
Mar 21, 2011 From Kolade Larewaju ABEOKUTA – GOVERNOR Olugbenga Daniel of Ogun State has finally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] for the Peoples Party of Nigeria [PPN] appearing with his Deputy; Alhaja Salmot Badru at the state rally of the party at the MKO Abiola Stadium. Gbenga Daniel Daniel had earlier insisted that he would remain in PDP and work for President Goodluck Jonathan’s reelection while all the candidates in his faction of the PDP who did not make the Independent Electoral Commission of Nigeria [INEC] list moved to PPN. But Daniel dressed in a cream colored lace material arrived the venue of the rally at about 1.15 pm throwing the crowd that thronged the venue into ecstasy amidst songs deriding those who made them leave the PDP. Addressing the crowd, the Governor who took time to show them, the candidates of the party from House of Assembly, National assembly and Governorship for the forthcoming elections said that he had become an elder statesman who would support anything good. He however still insisted that he would work for the reelection of President Jonathan as all members of the PPN had agreed to work for his reelection. He said “If we see anything good, we must endorse it. What we are witnessing today is good and we must support it. Even though you are not happy, you have declared your support for President Jonathan, we will vote for him because we are working for him. “I have come to feed my eyes and my eyes are seeing good things today” The Spiritual Leader of the Oodua Peoples Congress [OPC]; Dr. Fredrick Fasheun in his speech noted that Governor Daniel was capable of moving the state and the party forward and should be allowed to do so adding that some people were just against him for no reason. The National Legal adviser of the party Barrister Romanus Azuzu read a declaration saying “Whereas the Peoples Party of Nigeria, PPN, is made up of peoples of ideas who are determined to effect a positive change in the affairs of our country and liberate all our people from shackles of oppression by overlords. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/03/daniel-dumps-pdp-appears-at-ppn-rally/ |
God bless Wikileaks. Confirms a lot of rumor/hearsay about Nigeria. Here is the cable, btw: http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5684546-146/wikileaks_cable_the_pdp_lacks_key.csp So I guess GEJ is part of the Obasanjo faction? Or perhaps he is creating his own. . . |
^-- Polling is statistical in nature. If you survey 1000 people in Denver, Colorado and get 504 for candidate #1, 496 for candidate #2, Candidate #1 is ahead. But it'd be too close to say anything definitive. On the other hand, if Candidate #1 is up 700 votes to 180, then that seems well outside the margin of error (assuming that the poll is well-designed.) Some caveats: 1) People changing their minds over time 2) Possibility of a poorly-designed poll 3) Poll was taken from Feb 25th to March 16th, so is less trustworthy than a poll taken on March 29th (for example.) 4) No other polls taken by internationally reputed firms (here in the US, you typically will have several polling firms.) Still, the poll has a lot of value. Especially given that it was done by Ipsos. This is an international firm with lots of experience polling. |
I don't understand how free and fair elections are consistent with fake voting #s. What exactly do they mean? Each state should have free and fair elections, then aggregate everything up after that using the fake voting #s for each state? |
chigo4u:It isn't an internet poll, dude. Speaking to THISDAY yesterday on the latest polling results, the CEO for Sub-Saharan Africa, David Somers, said: “We initially designed a very large sample to cover the entire country. It’s a sample of 11,000 approximately of what we did in every state that will allow us to have estimate per state and in general. We conducted face to face interviews and as we talk to people in local dialects and personally on the ground, we asked people a series of questions about how they feel about life and about things in general and about things they want from their politicians. And ultimately for whom they will vote for whether at the presidential level or at the gubernatorial level. It’s honestly a traditional poll which we do all over the world. |

Hrm, fvck. I forgot. Don't the governor elections take place a week after the presidential elections? That messes up things a lot, does it not? If GEJ wins, then the PDP candidates will get a boost from him. Which puts the 50/50 states (like Delta, Oyo, etc) in jeopardy. Really wish that everything were done on the same day. |
^-- That is why I'm interested in seeing the #s. It would then inform ACN strategy, where to sink money and resources. BTW, I think if the ACN and CPC were wise, they'd also commission opinion polls from internationally reputed firms like Ipsos, and have 'em release publicly beforehand. Exit polls too! That way, you can entirely reduce rigging. Benue State for example. . . if INEC releases a result in which the ACN loses, then it is clearly rigging going on. I'm very annoyed by Ogun. But Benue, possibly Delta and possibly Oyo is a good haul. A key part of the opposition's strategy must be to take away as many states from the PDP as possible. |
Hrm. Only question I have. . . what is the best way to resolve this LAUTECH issue? Perhaps it should be split into two new universities. Or one state should buy the university from the other. |
Jonathan leads in all Southern states with the exception of Ekiti, where Ribadu has a 54-per-cent score, and Osun, which is considered too close to call, even though Jonathan leads. Ribadu and Shekarau had a strong showing in the state, thereby making it difficult to call for Jonathan.God bless the Ekiti man I salute my people, the most rascally of rascals! In Lagos, for instance, over 80 per cent of the polled voters said they would vote for Jonathan (PDP presidential), while 92 per cent said they would vote for Babatunde Fashola (ACN) in the governorship election.Game over, then. Looks like GEJ will win. Fashola's approval rating. . . Also, PDP is in danger of losing the governorship elections in four of the states it currently controls – Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue and Imo.Excellent news. A similar scenario is playing out in Benue State where the PDP governor, Hon. Gabriel Suswam, is trailing the ACN candidate, Professor Steve Ugbah. Suswam has 19 per cent, while his rival has 72 per cent.Up ACN, up Benue! The battle ground states for governorship, according to the survey, are Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Borno, Oyo and Delta.I'm a bit disappointed. Does this mean ACN is doing poorly in Ogun? Or coversely that PDP will win again there? ![]() Imo, at this point the ACN needs to re-double its efforts in states like Oyo. I wish Thisday/Ipsos would release the results on a state by state level so we could actually get a better sense of things. |
bk.bake97y: Look, my own perspective is simple. I want the SW of Nigeria to be strong and prosperous. We have talented guys like Fashola who can make this happen. I want them elected into office (keep in mind that they don't necessarily have to be ACN, Mimiko of the LP is showing some promise too! And I would embrace the equivalent of a Amaechi from the PDP.) If we have good governance in the SW, that combined with our existing federal allocations will make the region flourish. Unfortunately, the PDP isn't interested in putting in good leaders in the SW. You have incompetent crooks and conmen like Bode George, Alao-Akala and Gbenga Daniel. Segun Oni from my own Ekiti State, who pissed away money on dairy farms You see what I'm saying? The PDP doesn't do anything right there. Even the federal roads that are there, they have not fixed!!!! Not to talk of additional federal projects. What federal projects have they done in the SW in the last decade? And time is wasting. We cannot afford to waste time on fools who won't bring about economic prosperity. With competent leaders, you can achieve 10%+ GDP growth in the SW states every year. I'm sure Fashola has delivered something like this, which is why he is so popular (93%+ approval rating, according to this Ipsos company.) Once the PDP is kicked out of the SW, then Tinubu can be dealt with if necessary. Frankly, in my opinion, Fashola is going to end up as the face of the franchise for the ACN sometime in the future, not Tinubu. |
bk.babe97y:Alpha Beta Consulting, a tax consultancy firm takes a 10% cut of Lagos State revenues. This firm is connected with Tinubu. I cannot really defend it; at most it should be on the order of 1%, in my opinion. But you need money to fight wars in Nigeria, political or otherwise ![]() If the PDP will use Bayelsa, Rivers and Delta as slush funds (And don't take MY word for it, read what Wikileaks has to say about James Ibori), then ACN is going to have to get cash from somewhere to compete. It is what it is, man ![]() Tinubu isn't taking the money and building castles in the UK. So how much beef can I have with the guy? The ONLY problem I have with Tinubu is him installing his relatives. Look, Tinubu is not a clean man. As I've said repeatedly on this forum, he is essentially a rabid dog. But currently, this is MY rabid dog. And this rabid dog is hunting my enemies. If the rabid dog turns on me, then yes, I'll have to put it down. But until then, I'll keep it alive. And not only keep it alive. . . but recognize that anyone trying to kill this rabid dog means me harm. |
Akainzo: Thanks a lot for your posts! Very informative for me, and I'm sure lots of others. I hope that you shall post further if/when the PIB is eventually passed. |
