Yewe2011: this going to be my last post for a couple of hours as I wanna go watch this game lolHehe I'm streaming it |
Ghanaians don't hate Nigerians in the US. A lot of the folk I kick it with on the weekends are Ghanaian.. |
Why is your language not mutually intelligible with Yoruba though if you only left 500 years ago? That isn't a long period of time. |
Suppose that you have an existing website/web app. What is the easiest way to make it suitable for mobile phones? Let's say Android, to be concrete. I'm contemplating the following two options: 1) Just make a new style sheet for mobile phones. 2) Actually write an Android application that communicates with my web app. In both cases I'd be hiring out the labor. Any comments/suggestions from those who have some experience with this type of stuff? |
“Have you ever seen a man who changes his name while celebrating his 50th birthday? This is totally wrong,” Ibidapo-Obe queried.lmao |
Good. |
One_Naira: I thought that had more to do with mis-education of Americans than holding British accents in esteem. Unfortunately the nation, though not all but the majority, have misconception that all European accents except Ireland, french and Italy sound British. Eastern Europe differ from other European countries but every country in Eastern European sound Russian. If you noticed whenever they pretending to be Caribbean, they use the Jamaican accent. For South America, they use the Mexican accent. For Asian (excluding middle east and India), they used Chinese accent. For Africa, they used Shaka Zulu accent(not SA but Shaka zulu from the movie). I thought they just weren't aware of the accents within the continents.Hrm. The rest might be true. But regarding Spanish accents, Mexican accents are pretty distinctive from other Spanish accents. So they definitely won't use Mexican accents to portray Argentinians or people from the Dominican Republic, for example. |
I wish that we had written records from that time. Really sucks that so much history from 1000AD onwards is basically forgotten, or reduced to myth/rumor/tales ![]() |
Not the first time I've heard this. Friend of mine is Ewe...claims that his people have some of connection/ancestry from Ile-Ife. |
The username "ekt_bear" seems to have been banned. This happened after I quoted a post with videos in it. |
There is nothing to be disappointed about. Present a logical argument if you want to convince me otherwise. So far, no one has offered anything. |
re@lchange:Fair enough. We can agree to disagree. No doubt this will be settled in the courts at some point in the near future. |
The Hausa-Fulani mentality is, "what is mine is mine, and what is yours is ours" ![]() I hope people see through this tactic and understand why it must be resisted with 100% effort. |
Realchange, I am not sure if you are arguing against fairness and logic is because you think it is beneficial to your own state to do so. So let us set aside what is right, fair, and logical temporarily and discuss naked self-interest. Given that you are an Igboman and the interest of at least one majority Igbo state (Rivers) is in both onshore AND offshore resource control, I am not sure it is in the best interest of your people to be against it. My own "self-interest" calculus is: a) supporting offshore hurts me and my state slightly b) but is of massive, massive benefit to my people (Yoruba) as a whole. Like, who knows what will be found offshore over the next 20-30 years? Signing away that is exactly what Esau did. I imagine that the self-interest calculus of any Igbo who thinks about it for more than 3 minutes will be similar (again, assuming that they are interested in maximizing the benefit of their people as a whole rather than just their own particular state.) |
Beaf: With this quote, the thread ends and Deep Sight is hereby elevated to the status of a god.Well, maybe the new argument will be that Nigeria's coastal waters are part of Gombe State, not the coastal states. Devilish minds can always come up with new arguments for why down is up and up is down... |
re@lchange:I don't think you are correct man. Like I said, the federal university in my state was delayed because the governor didn't sign off on releasing the land. So I am not sure that the FG can dictate to us necessarily how to use our own land. |
Realchange: If your argument for onshore derivation is only what the constitution says (rather than fairness), then the offshore derivation will likely also probably continue... Or is your argument that offshore derivation (which is currently happening) is illegal, unconstitutional and should stop? If so, no doubt they'll take it to the courts and whoever argues more convincingly will win... |
re@lchange:Are you sure of this? I thought it was only the state governments that can give title to land, not FGs. There was controversy earlier in my state about where the university would be sited...my understanding of that situation was that it is only the governor who can sign off on the land. Not the FG. |
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walls_of_Benin "It was considered the largest man-made structure lengthwise, second only to the Great Wall of China, and was hailed as the largest earthwork in the world. With more recent work by Patrick Darling, it has been established as the largest man-made structure in the world, larger than Sungbo's Eredo. It enclosed 6,500 km² of community lands. Its length was over 16,000 km of earth boundaries. It was estimated that earliest construction began in 800 AD and continued into the mid 1400's." Didn't know this. Pretty cool. |

I did find it somewhat interesting though in that "Thank God I am not a Nigerians" song how they think that Nigeria is limited to Yorubaland ![]() Hehe |
Most Ghanaian immigrants will probably have migrated to the SW part of Nigeria over any other zone. So more interaction with Yoruba than Hausa, Igbo, etc. Also, the big deportation of Nigerians Ghana did in the 60s affected mostly Yoruba (google about this, you'll find a nice journal paper discussing it.) Similarly, "Ghana-must-go" mostly affected Ghanaians in the SW. Regarding Fashola's statement (and Gbenga Daniel who said something similar regarding Ogun State vs. Ghana), it is just powerful rhetoric to compare yourself to the accomplishments of another nation. In West Africa, Ghana is the only real other competitor. So makes sense to evaluate against them. |

That is what some would have you believe, no?
