Pogba's shot was not a good save, but a poor attempt. Pogba didn't look up to pick his spot. He just shot at the goal, and he shot directly at the goalkeeper. He had another chance to make a decent attempt at 1-1, his lack of scoring confidence meant he decided to cut back instead of hitting that shot at close range. |
He was far behind
|
He was behind three players, particularly behind Fellaini and Darmian. If Fellaini kept running, he would have defended the ball with ease. Darmian saw it, but was not able to give a good challenge. Luke Shaw would have not allowed a free header. Even Young could have done better. |
The guy that scored was way behind.

MRTA7:You mostly see negative ![]() On a serious note, the football was fine, courtesy of Carrick. |
There is something missing in the team. We are not very business like. |
We played quality football and didn't deserve to concede a goal. |
How did we not win that match. We should have scored three but we drew. It looks like Jose Mourinho decided to be defence cautions by bringing Fellaini, but Fellaini was no where to be find when we conceded. Our two central defenders were nowhere when we conceded. Darmian was never going to win that aerial duel. Pogba has no scoring confidence. Anthony Martial failed to get past his man. |
It looks like he has been trying to get a girl, but the girl is so much attached to her boyfriend: her struggling boyfriend. I don't trust this Pastor |
These people are not poor na. They deceived us to believe this guy was from a poverty stricken home. |
Bailly almost gifted Anichebe an easy goal, but thanks to Romero. If it were Smalling or Jones that mistake wouldn't have gone unnoticed on this thread. I am surprised no one mentioned it. Our finishing, understanding and decision making are poor. |

irynterri:1 million 900k 200k That is 2.1m in one statement. Remember she said there were foreign currencies transfers |
mantosa:Did you watch the video where the statement was reviewed? There are three transfers there. And these are not even the foreigner currencies transfers earlier mentioned. The three transfer there in her account statement is about 2 million naira or more. |
Spy360:I do not agree that when related to physical ability talent is connected to birth. Most commentators used 'talented' and 'talent' when talking about the proficiency (finished products) of sports men and women. We hear and read about how much talented Serena Williams is, Usain Bolt, Xavi, Inieta, etc. When you read how they are analyse, their talent is not discussed in relation to when they were young but in relation to what techniques they currently apply. Today, no one says Macheida is a great talent despite his potentials ten years ago. Football and sports talent is discussed on one's proficiency, not some imaginable unacquired skills. Secondly, do you know from my personal observation that kids who ride bicycle around tend to run faster? Even in primary school and junior secondary school, those pupils and students who rode their bicycles to school those days were faster on the track and football field. So it is possible those kids you think were faster from birth, that something actually propelled them to be faster than their peers. There is element of training to every success or talent. However, training makes more impact at young age. If Messi didn't train until he got to 15 years before he trained for the first time, he would probably have been a worse footballer than Edward Ayanke. Again, if Messi didn’t train until he got to 20 years, he would not have been able to trap a simple pass. He wouldn't have been qualified to represent Market women FC. Why do you think lawn tennis players, swimmers, are put under serious training from age 3-6? It is to make the game part of their brain and body system. They were not born with it as such. Let them not train and boast of talent, then when they return at age 13 they would have missed it forever. |

lekkie073:Ronaldo was also a wonder kid according to friends and his mother. Even elders had to go carry him from home to play matches when he was sick. At that young age his mum knew he would play for Madrid. When you see Ronaldo jog the ball even 11 years ago, you knew he was magical. He jogs the ball, then use his leg to circle the ball in the air and continue jogging it. I remember one match against Arsenal, was it against Sagna that Ronaldo was criss crossing his feet and his markers started seeing stars. Even we watching on TV, it was hard to follow the movement of his legs. These other players they used to compare Ronaldo in talent, if they were really talented, they would have been consistent with little amount of training. |
raumdeuter:When you say someone is talented, you are talking about ability and accomplishment. Quaresma should not be mentioned among best talented footballers.
|
raumdeuter:It is even possible Ahmed Musa and Quaresma trained harder than Ronaldo. Ahmed Musa may have trained harder than the other two because African players train very hard while coming up. Some even play two matches a day. But I have noticed something, you appear to think talent is only about what one had naturally (from birth). The truth is when you say someone is talented, you are also saying he is a success, an authority in his field, etc. Success is usually as a result of natural ability and hard work. Therefore, when we talk about the greatest football talent, Quaresma cannot be mentioned. You look at talent only on the latent context. That's wrong. |
raumdeuter:We have many like that in football, particularly those of them who have come from Brazil. Robinho, Denilson (is that his name?). Even Wright Phillips. These guys were just pure limited. They reach world class today and become zero the rest of the season. Even such players as Hulk, Bellamy, Nani, used to reach world class status in some matches. How are you sure these guys don't train harder than Ronaldo? In those days, when you go to Stadium in Nigeria, or some serious training ground, you will see footballers carrying weight or bag of cement while jogging, yet they were never world class. ... Remember, this argument was about the finished product a footballer has become. The skills they have as an adult. So leave out development years because we don't know who could have been who with hard work. Rooney could have been the best footballer this generation has seen with hardwork, Okocha could have been more consistent than Zidane with hardwork. These are mere theories. This argument is taking about actual talent and skills of adult footballers in their late 20s or 30s. |
lordfalcao:You can become lackadaisical when you put in so much and you still don't measure up. You get motivated to carry on when you put in effort and your body keep responding to every effort. That's why we have Ronaldo. I gave an example of Rafael Da Silva who trained harder than anyone at United (from what SAF said, he might have trained harder than Ronaldo) but never became the best right back. |
raumdeuter:Many trained harder than Ronaldo and still didn’t become a real talent. One must train and develop ones latent talent to reach a world class talent. Quaresma, Ronaldo, Ahmed Musa are players who have done all the trainings they need to do in life, so when we discussed them, we should discuss what they are today (the skills they have acquired), not the ones they should have acquired. Ronaldo has always been better built than Neymar. Ronaldo always had muscle and strong abs. He has always been fast and jump high for the ball. Even athleticism is not gotten at old age. In sports, everything you need to excel should have been part of you like 60% by age 16. By age 18 you should have had them by about 70%. Ronaldo wouldn't have just developed these qualities as an adult. But before I deviate, we are not talking about latent talents of teenage footballers, but the talent these professional footballers have become. |
randomperson:Well, I know Ronaldo is able to hit target most of the time when there is space to shoot. Bale was also very accurate. But both are poor in free kicks. That is not what I am talking about. |
randomperson:So between Ronaldo and Nani, who would you choose to score for you from a clear position at the edge of the box assuming the next marker is 3 yards away. Not freekicks. |
Gyalchester:Lol. I believe I was actually very good but I was not awaken to what I could have done with it, or may be I realized late I should have taken some risk with football. People still run into me and tell me how good I used to play football. Even the people I have worked with have certain times run into people who told them 'that your colleague used to be a very good footballer'. I was really a good dribbler and I scored the highest goals by the miles in the two major training grounds I played, despite playing as a support striker (what is now called AMC). Even in my NYSC training team I was the highest scorer in trainings, but I played deep in midfield mid during matches because in our first match the ball wasn't coming out of the defence and we were struggling to cope. The guy who played there was also an AM, so I decided to swap positions with him because I had played there before in a similar circumstance. At the end people were calling me Sunday Oliseh, little did they know it was not even my position. When I was a teenager, during live matches on TV, I will say I can do what these people are doing and I see nothing too special. Particularly those junior world cup. The first day I saw Samuel Eto played football, I think it was 1998 or 2000 Nations Cup for Cameroon, I saw someone who played the way I play football, but I think I could dribble better even though I use mostly one leg. He wasn't playing with strength like African strikers - Yekini, Yeboa, Amokachie, etc. Even friends said "this is your kind of swift movements and drives in the opposition area. Why don't you still pursue football? " But I was already deep into academics. But one thing about football is when you go higher, the speed and intensity become more and you are not able to do the things you did at your previous level. But I was able to play with fair and great expression at NYSC despite not playing much in the University, so may be if I pushed I could have succeeded. And people from my playing ground who were not considered talented even had to play for Nigeria professional league. Just only because they put football above their school. |
talent ˈtalənt/ noun 1. natural aptitude or skill. "he possesses more talent than any other player" synonyms: flair, aptitude, facility, gift, knack, technique, touch, bent, ability, expertise, capacity, power, faculty; strength, strong point, forte, genius, brilliance; dexterity, adroitness, skill, cleverness, virtuosity, artistry ..... If you said Usain Bolt is talented what do you mean? It meant he mastered the acts of his 'trade' from practice over the years to the level it became part of him. He is able to do it with flair, with ease, effortlssly and constantly. Same is with Ronaldo, Messi, Robben, etc. The football is in their brains, their brain captured faster the practice they had over the years. It is sitted their in their brain. They don't have to think for two seconds to make an intelligent decision. They have mastered their act of trade that they are able to carry it out with so much flair, effortlessly and consistently. Even in academic field, it is not people who read hardest and longest that have the highest scores, it is those who master the techniques of a subject most. |
codedguy1: The mistake you people make here is bringing in development years into the argument. Eph1 brought the cases of Messi and Ahmed Musa, two players who have fully developed and are approaching 30 years. So bringing Ronaldo of 18 years into the argument doesn't make sense. The difference between Messi and Ahmed Musa is talent and skills not consistentency. These players have gone through all the training and hardwork that should make the talent they are. They are both graduates in their field. Just like we can say the difference between Roger Federer and Nduka Odizo is talent. The defence between Celine Dion and Janet Jackson is talent. |
randomperson:Not every goal attempt is a shooting accuracy in the context I speak. There are times you just make attempts for the sake of that is logical to do under the circumstance. But what I mean is shooting particularly from outside the box or just inside it after the way is clear to hit target with a powerful shot, either curly it or hitting a rocket. Nani mostly balloon from there while Ronaldo, Robben and Messi mostly hit target from such clear shooting position. |
raumdeuter:The thing is even if Quaresma or Nani trained as hard as Ronaldo, they wouldn't be as good. Do you know Ibrahimovic train very hard, if not hander than Ronaldo? Rafael Da Silva was said to trained like a beast according to Ferguson. He spent more hours training alone after everyone had gone. But Rafael has never been the best right back in football, not even his league. It is not the people who train most that are the most talented. Talent/skills is partly natural and partly gotten from training. It is what your brain and body inherited permanently from training that makes your talent. In other words, talent is something that sits permanently in your brain and body, but mostly in your brain. Once there you don't force it, you just do things like you were born with it. You become consistent. But the untalented person forces things and get things right once in a long while. |
Let me tell give another example to make you guys understand. There is a football training ground I go to from time to time to watch guys play. The guys are mostly in their 20s. When these guys are playing free kicks, I join to participate. They wonder how I am able to hit the ball so accurately with bullet shots. And I don't train, I only join them in kicks once in a while. These guys train everyday and play matches here and there. Even a close by University school players train with them. I am far older than these guys, but they cannot strike the ball accurately like I do. They train every day, but I used only the skills I learnt decades back. I started playing football when I was four and played till I did NYSC. The difference between me and these guys is talent/skills. Ryan Giggs will still cross the ball better than anyone at Manchester United today. The coach of that training ground has pleaded with me several times to come train with them even if it is once a week. But I just think I am not in good physical fitness to run around at same pace with the young guys. I may have to do individual training and jogging for two months or more. Although I have trained like thrice as a late substitute. |
