Diademk07: If you make more passes irrespective of your failed passes or made few failed passes out of the little passes you made, you're likely to have high pass percentage. Does this your statement make sense to you? Take for instance: 1. If your pass accuracy is 80% If you make 10 passes, 8 will be accurate. If you make 20 passes 16 will be accurate. If you make 30 passes 24 will be accurate. If you make 50 passes 40 will be accurate. If you make 80 passes 64 will be accurate. If you make 110 passes 88 will be accurate. The one who has had 24 accurate passes out of 30 total passes has the same accuracy as the one who had 64 out of 80 2. If your pass accuracy is 70% If you make 10 passes, 7 will be accurate. If you make 20 passes 14 will be accurate. If you make 30 passes 21 will be accurate. If you make 50 passes 35 will be accurate. If you make 80 passes 56 will be accurate. If you make 110 passes 77 will be accurate. In the above, in a any combination you pick, player 1 has helped his team to gain better ball possession than player 2. Yesterday just before half time, the commentor said 'Rooney has been the only bright star in the United side.' And he did better in second half. Let me tell you, Carrick is a player who consistently makes a high pass accuracy, followed by Mata, irrespective of whether they make high or low number of passes. For Carrick to have that poor accuracy meant he didn't find it easy. Although it was a tight pitch. |

That said, we shouldn't be depending on an aged player and actually needs an upgrade. You are confused. A DM does not mark a DM. How can Alonso and Busquet be marking each other? You no know ball. |

Immediately SAF left and attacking players were asked to focus on attacks, our defenders and midfielders were exposed. Opposition breezed passed them like they were not there. It didn’t take time for Vidic and Rio to retire. Carrick is being carried on year after year. We need another to play there. But first we need a new coach.

Yes, I proved to you the defence helped the attack. We won the games very heavily when we had young defenders who could push forward and recover quickly. Once they injured our attack which was intact struggled. Carrick has been weak since 2011. His movement has been slow since then. |

Diademk07: Schweinsteiger was signed to share minutes with Carrick whom we've seen that his contribution is indispensable as exemplified by how the team totally fell apart the moment he got injured in our last 6 games last season after 7 games winning runs. Schneiderlin on the other hand was signed as the box-box defensive midfielder to complement one of Bastian/Carrick in the midfield. This was how we played at the start of the season until Bastian got injured. Carrick was not the only reason we had a run of wins. Young was a beast in left wing . Fellaini was a chest control master. Smalling and Jones had a good partnership. Carrick, Young and Jones had injury and couldn't play against Chelsea, then we lost 3 in a row. |

Carrick had been tired since 2011 /2012. 2012/2013 we were bossed in midfield by Everton, Tottenham, Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Madrid. In some of the return legs of those games, SAF had to protect our midfield by playing Phil Jones there. Phil Jones took out Fellaini in return leg against Everton. We lost to Spurs at Old Trafford, but in Whitehart lane they were lucky to get a draw against us, Jones was used to pad our midfield they couldn’t get going. Jones went on to play many more games in midfield and having a run there. Even against Stoke City. Carrick has been tired. We have long concluded that here. |

Diademk07: Still favours the players who has made more paSses irrespective of his failed passes. Fallacy. Our substitutes usually have more pass accuracy. Yesterday Lingard had the highest pass accuracy, he completed 5 of his 6 passes. Januzaj 1/1, 100% pass accuracy. The other day Rooney had 100% pass accuracy coming as a a sub. The more you are involved, the tendencies for you to make mistakes get higher. |

Diademk07: Carrick would surely have some poor games due to his aged leg but he's still the best we have for the holding midfield role. It's as if, you don't know what the job of a holding midfielder entails. He provides passing option for the defence, build up the play, transition the play from the defence to attack, reads the game well by anticipating opposition passing lanes to blocks it off. At his best, he also provide the spatial awareness to helps his playmaker in dictating the tempo in the midfield. All these are even separate from the defensive work he would offer in te role. Looking at Morgan, his anticipation, awareness, passing and build-up play are just too average for that role. Carrick legs have been tired since 2011/2012. Game came and has spent £250, who did he buy to replace Carrick? My first thought was that with Schneirderlin that aspect is solved. But recently, people are saying Schneiderlin is box to box. If Schneirderlin is box to box, what is the work of Herrera and why did we also buy Schweinsteiger? Why are we playing Rooney as box to box, why can't we play Schneirderlin there and Rooney allowed to compete with Lingard and Herrera? Rooney's first game he did well behind the striker, why play him prematurely in midfield? I think he should be fighting for the more advanced positions while Schneirderlin played his natural position if he is actually an original box to box midfielder. |

You said between 1 out of 3 or 2 out of 10. 1 completed pass out of 3 is a higher accuracy than 2 out of 10. Don't be confused. Carrick had poor accuracy. Chikena. |

The one with 1 out of 3 had higher accuracy accuracy than the player with 2/10. Accuracy is calculated from a player's number of completed passes from his overall passes. |

Diademk07: The bold are contradictory though! Also, Carrick started playing in the second half. He didn't made as many passes as Rooney to boost his accuracy. Number of passes has nothing to do with accuracy. Carrick should have had the highest accuracy because he played in the half we tried to control the game. |

Diademk07: Apart from the game against lethargic Arsenal team consisting of Ozil and Ramsey who failed to press us, there were never a good game both have in the league. Both were awful against Watford team just as they were yesterday. Even against Arsenal, Carrick was right behind them, acting as a pseudo midfielder in the central defence to build up play and transition the tempo. Without Carrick, the midfield is totally pathetic. Sometimes with Carrick, we play our worst games. Like when Arsenal beat us 3-0 We were over run in midfield and defence. |

Diademk07: Smalling, the tall one lost many aeriel duel too! Hence, I don't know what you're talking about! As a matter of fact, if the midfield has shielded the defence by keeping the ball well and attacking with more intensity, we would have won the game. The team couldn't even get on the ball and could only do it by fouling them. Smalling was up against Carrol, but I will agree he should have done better. Smalling was second best to Carrol in every contest, but he did enough to prevent him from a clear header. The other mistake was his police of Carrol around the field, that meant Blind was left to shield another fast and tall player. It was very obvious we need needed to bring Phil Jones but Gaal kept faith with weak and slow Blind who cannot even jump. I don't agree the midfielders didn't shield the defence. The defence panicked from the onset. At least Rooney still won the highest tackles in the game. I think Mata and Herrera did not do well to help our passing game. Blind and Rooney were the only two players among the starters with above 80% pass accuracy, despite both of them seeing the ball most. Even Carrick's pass accuracy was poor and he was slightly above Schneirderlin. |

Not forgetting that majority of Fellaini games were those he started for 6-7 straight games dating back from the Westham cup replay match! In the first half of the season, Fellaini was awful. He could not even win or control aerial balls. But recently, he is getting close to the Fellaini we bought from Everton. Herrera is limited. Like Mata, there are days they give absolutely delightful performance, but generally they get swallowed in tough games. Now, I see why Lingard and Fellaini get in ahead of them. |

tess1: Fellaini would only be able to take on only one player during set piece while other players will still do the damage like they did in this match.
You remember the match against Leicester i think. Fellaini was in the wall when he`s supposed to be the one handling Wes Morgan who was more than Rojo.
Blind and Rojo were useless aerially. Fellaini wouldn`t have been able to save us when most of our defenders were grabbing rather than wathching the ball and contest for it.
There was this situation where some defenders were grabbing Carrol and as low as the ball dropped he was still able to head the ball. They were really not concentrated. But there are some other matches Fellaini won 80% of the set play against us, even the set plays not falling into his zone, he read the flight of the ball and went to head away. The match against Leicester was an error, we should have by now learn from that mistake. We had Smalling too, we should have had two men heading set plays away. We also lost the aerial battle at the middle of the field. That was one major reason we came under pressure. Whereas against them in FA cup, Fellaini bossed the aerial balls in the middle and final third. The only good thing that Fellaini's absence revealed is that Blind is not a defender. If Fellaini played, we would have defended the aerial balls and Blind would have been awarded MOTM for his ability to carry the ball forward. |

chrisley024: If the midfield is being overran, the sensible to do is to choke it knowing you don't have Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets but this shite of a coach would want his players to do it like those I mentioned. We cannot continue like this. This is gambling with a mighty team as Manchester United. We need another coach to buy the right players. First we need a fast and experienced right winger. We just couldn’t push West Ham back in the first 30 minutes. We were trying short passes which never worked. To think we had Mata and Herrera in the side. We easily lost the ball, and were falling all over under panic, hitting the ball into touch or corner kick. Wrong passes here and there. This possession philosophy wont work excerpt we have another Paul Scholes, another world class winger. Then we have to stop playing Blind in central defence. Our right back will be settled next season with Luke Shaw back. Players like Luke Shaw will put their head in some of those balls. Even Smalling appeared to lost more aerial duels than he won. Although he was a hindrance to Carrol getting clean headers. |

Fellaini is the most indisciplined of all our midfielder coupled with his sluggish play. I am so sure he would`ve gotten a yellow card at least in this match if he was available. You just feel like scapegoating Herrera when most of our player were really not into the game.
The first 20 minutes our defenders couldn`t play from the back, including Blind that we believe has been our best passer of the ball in our defence. They were just punting the balls forward and we played into Westham`s hand by making so many wrong passes in the process. Fellaini is situational player. He would have been useful today. You are correct on our poor game in first half. It's like we were nervous. It was horrible. |

Diademk07: If the midfield had shielded the defence, we won't be here. The midfield was just simply useless both in initiating the attack nd protecting the defence. The major problem was Blind. Blind was at fault for the three goals, although Herrera gave free kicks away. This wasn't our worst performance from midfield this season. Even in our FA cup match against West Ham at Old Trafford, our midfield was extremely poor but we drew it. |
