Liverpool scored two goals Di the full backs give Assist? I just got back home and watching now. Wetin happen? |
Why people get confused is that some teams or coaches use a player with striking capability in the number 10 (central attacking midfield). So journalists and fans call such players as strikers still or forward players. Like when Rooney played behind RVP/Welbeck/Chicharito or when Wellbeck played behind Chicharito/RVP in 4-2-3-1 setting. In one or two of our matches, Martial has played there behind Rashford. Some other coaches, which is mostly common use players with wing or midfield capabilities to play the number 10. So people still get confused and say midfielders. E.g Oscar, Silva, Hazard, Ozil, etc But one fact remains, we are talking about the position and not the player. Whoever is playing in the hole (number 10) is a forward player irrespective of whether the person is naturally a midfielder or a natural striker. If a player is converted to goalkeeper, he does the job of a goalkeeper. When Valencia was converted to fullback, he is known till his death as a natural winger but at that time he was a playing in fullback. |
odizeey:Preaching on, A defensive midfielder has a duty to shield the defence. An attacking midfielder has no such duty, but his duty is to work with the the other forwards. Silva was never held liable for defensive duty as it was demanded from Fernadinho and Fernando. Maradona was mostly an attacking midfielder or a second striker. If I hear say no be forward player. Or those few instances Messi played in the central attacking midfield, you will now tell me he was not a forward player. |
odizeey:It is not emphasized in a 4-2-3-1 4= defenders 2= central midfielders 3= Attacking midfielders (first line of forward players) 1= striker (second line of forward) players In some other formation like 4-1-4-1, a DM is highlighted. Or even 4-3-3, 0r 4-4-2 Diamond |
odizeey:Matic is a defensive midfielder or/and a central midfielder. Matic therefore is a pure midfielder. Same with Fred. Scholes and Carrick |
BlueAngel444:Dybala is number 10 He plays as an attacking midfielder or as a second striker. Both positions are number 10 |
Expert17: You know ball, but only one thing. Bruno is number 10. CAM is always 10. If you play as a second striker or as a central attacking midfielder, your are playing number 10 |
eph12:1. I see you guys curse James, heavily criticize Greenwood, Lingard and co. But everyone praising Bissaka, not because he scores, but because he defends very well. Now those whose responsibility it is to score and scoring, Bissaka is now being praised for sweeping Sterling. 2. I have not called for our forwards to be benched, I only said they are not as good as what Liverpool has and I still stand by that. I said our central midfeilders are better than Liverpool's and I still stand by that. But you guys said our midfielders and fullbacks are useless and best to be on the bench. |
patrickmuf:A crowd saying a wrong thing doesnt make it right. They are only ignorant. An attacking midfielder is a forward player. In 4231, there are four forward players. Football is not meant for light weight to analyse. When they say Hazard is a midfielder in football, someone like you will begin to compare his position with that of Fred or Fernadinho |
odizeey:Bruno is an attacking midfielder. He is a forward doesn't mean he is a striker. According to transfermarket, Bruno Fernadez plays three positions= Attacking midfield, Second striker and central midfield. For United, he is an attacking midfielder. In 4231, attacking midfielder is a forward player. |
patrickmuf:Are you trying to argue that number 10 is CM? Don't do this. No wonder you dey make argument tedious |
Question for Patrick and EPH How many goals has Bissaka scored since we started winning? Is Bissaka still useless? |
patrickmuf:So.now you mean, when we played 4-2-3-1 with Rashford as CF and Martial on the left as right wing player, then Martial is a midfielder? |
patrickmuf:You no know ball. Number 10 is the position behind the striker. It is the attacking midfielder. He is a forward player. That was the position Rooney played |
patrickmuf:They are forward players if they play in 4-2-3-1. But midfielders if they play in 4-3-3 |
airmark:Was Rooney a midfielder in 2012/2013, 2013/2014? I am not wrong. LW and RW are also midfielders in the sense you argue. If you check Premier League website highest chances created by midfielders, you are going to see wingers. So in that sense, Martial, James are midfielders. |
patrickmuf:The fact remains that the central midfield has not changed. Also the fullbacks. What has charged is the forward. The number 10 (hole) is always a forward. patrickmuf:More like Martial has improved due to competition from Ighalo. Although Martial usually have on and off form. |
eph12:Rooney was not a midfielder when he played behind Van Persie in 2012/2013, 2013/2014. He was playing in the hole. Rooney only attempted to play in midfield in Van Gal's last season. |
Someone keeps saying McTominay has scored. When I was saying McTominay was very good and had 3 league goals and that he was not part of our problem, they were arguing. Has McTominay not been scoring? I remember I said he is our player who is most likely to hit target from outside the box.. |
eph12:Then Martial, Rashford and James are also midfielders when they play right and left wings. |
airmark:It is not wrong. Even the right wing and lert wing are also called midfielders. But we are talking about central midfielders. This was why in my argument with you, we never considered Lingard in it. Lingard was having the best chances created in the combined team, but I never called him a midfielder. Rooney was not a midfielder behind Van Persie. It is same position. Bruno is playing as aattacking midfielder. |
eph12:We did not but any central midfielder. McTominay and Fred were always good and I said were better than what Liverpool had. But you guys kept condemning them as well as the full backs. I stated categorically that in 4-2-3-1, the last four are forward. They should create for themselves first before we others. Martial is one of them. Lingard/Pereira/Mata, Martial, James, Rashford were to be held responsible first in terms of creativity. Currently, Bruno is now one of them. |
patrickmuf:You were blaming the wrong people. I told you the central midfield where we have McTominay, Fred and Matic was okay. The front four was the issue. At some point I said we needed to get a number 10 like Silva to make us play better. I also said the number 10 playing in the hole has the number one responsibility to create and then the forward. But you were too deep in blaming the wrong people to understand |
eph12:But we did not buy a new defender or midfielder. |
Gradually guys are no longer saying our full backs are not creative. Even the central midfield. We are beginning to appreciate how important for players to be good first at their primary assignment before everything else can be added. It is important for the back to be strong so that the front will drop less to help the back. It is important for the front to be productive so that the back knows when it gives the ball to the front, something is very likely to come out of it. |

ChristineC:Per match? |
Ravioli:If we play Pogba,we will lose some of the yards in midfield. Someone like KDB will just be having a wide space to run |
afrodoc2:Yes. He is proving me wrong now. |
Matic to get two years |
CapitalCee:But a bank employee is reprimanded by his boss, not just a random person insulting him. |
