PoliticsBuhari’s Feeding Program In A Ditch, Grants Billions Of Naira Secret Egg Importa by Elose11(op):
Fourteen months after mounting the saddle, the Muhammadu Buhari’s

administration is yet to kick start its school feeding programme, as no
due diligence was apparently done regarding the feasibility.

In a recent article by columnist, Dele Sobowale in the Vanguard, he wrote
” Those who persuaded Buhari that Nigeria could offer free meals to over
20 million pupils daily and pay N5,000 to over 25 million jobless people
are condemnable liars. I think I know them. Those promises cannot be
fulfilled in 2015-2019. Nigeria will not be rich enough for that. “There
is no such thing as a free lunch.” American Economics Professor, September
1964.

Pointblanknews.com checks reveal that for the programme to be successful
it would need no fewer than 350,000 eggs per day, and no farm in Nigeria
has that capacity to supply such.

It was also learnt that the APC-led federal government had also asked
state governments for a 40 per cent counterpart funding of the project.
Some state Governors are already kicking against the move, among them, Ayo
Fayose of Ekiti state.

Shortly after the administration launched the National Egg Production
scheme and signed N25Billion MoU with TUNS Farms, Osun State for egg
production, as birds eggs is on the import prohibition list.

Despite the agreement, the production still fell short, so the President
hatched a plan to use the scheme to pacify aggrieved party faithful who
feel left out, and a large number of his inner circle. Selected chieftains
were asked to supply bids to import eggs from countries like Ghana, Togo
and Benin Republic.

Pointblanknews.com gathered that the 350,000 eggs needed per day put the
contract sum for importation at several Billions.

The waiver therefore is a violation of the administration’s statute that
prohibits the importation of eggs.

It was also gathered that ex President, Olusegun Obasanjo had lobbied from
the start to be the major supplier of the eggs. But his farms in Ogun,
Delta, and Cross River states can only produce 25,000 within the time
frame.

“The Federal Government is already looking for excuses for the impending
failure of the programme by asking states to contribute 40 per cent to the
scheme,” Fayose had said in a statement.

He said the school feeding programme was purely a contract between the
APC-led Federal Government and Nigerians.

“Were the states consulted before the APC made the promise during the
presidential campaign?” the governor queried.

“How can you make a promise and win election on the basis of that promise
and now expect states to help you to fulfil the promise? That to me is
fraud.”

According to Fayose, Ekiti State and other states in the country deserve
to benefit from the programme without assisting the federal government
with any 40 per cent counterpart funding.

The governor said the APC-led Federal Government should rather blame
itself for failing to do proper study on the practicability of the scheme
before they promised.

PoliticsJonathan’s Govt Better Than Buhari’s Administration by Elose11(op): 10:11am On Aug 27, 2016
One of the three factional leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, Hussaini Mairiga, in this interview with TED ODOGWU, urges the party’s national
leaders to resolve the lingering crisis in the state.

You were recently quoted to have described President Muhammadu Buhari as a failure. Why did you say that?

Yes, because all Nigerians felt that as soon as Buhari came to power, they would feel some relief after the hardship from the immediate-past administration of Goodluck Jonathan. But from all indications, Jonathan’s Government is better than our government. Meanwhile, the prices of all goods and services in Nigeria have gone up, particularly essential commodities. Each time one buys a product from the market and goes back the second day; one will notice that the price has drastically increased. . It’s indeed failure to him and us, the APC members and followers of the party. The painful aspect is that we turn a blind eye when our own is doing something wrong. Each time the President goes wrong, it’s better to tell him right away than to wait until he leaves government before cataloguing his misdeeds.

What about all the atrocities and other corrupt practices we hear were committed by the immediate-past government, shouldn’t the previous governments also be blamed for the mess Nigeria is experiencing today?

I am not blaming the previous administration and I must also point out that I am not a member of the Peoples Democratic Party. But let me tell you the truth, during the PDP government, it was only insurgency that was the most critical situation in Nigeria. Apart from security challenges, the masses were able to afford their needs. A 50kg bag of rice sold for between N7,000 and N8,000.
The price of kerosene per gallon, at that time, sold for not more than N200. But currently, the price of kerosene sells for N1,200 per gallon. The same measure of garri that was sold for not more than N150 currently sells for N500. It’s good to face the truth. During the PDP administration, prices of essential goods and commodities did not hit the roof top as it is today. The bottom line is that the Buhari-led government has to urgently do something to alleviate the ongoing level of untold hardship and poverty in the country so as to bring relief to Nigerians who are currently in critical condition.

PoliticsRe: Reply To Those Who Say Islam Must Be Banned For Zamfara's Murder_ By Lord Kabex by Elose11(m): 5:28pm On Aug 25, 2016
The op's ignorance smells to high heaven. Christians are followers of Jesus Christ. The verses you quoted from the bible were not from Jesus' time. Those are verses from the jewish religion, called Judaism. Jesus never tell his followers to kill for him. The Christians follow the example of Christ. You also mentioned the atrocities of the crusaders, etc. My friend, those things happened in the dark ages. If they were good, why are they not continuing? The good christians saw the evil these people were perpetuating in the name of God and spoke out against them. But instead of you Muslim speaking out against the evil of your terrorists, you are rationalising it. Like the proverbial Ostrich, the muslims are burying their heads in the sand while their religion of 'peace' is continually been turned into that of terror and hate by children of Shatan.

PoliticsSenators Reject Buhari’s Emergency Powers Bill, Say It’ll Turn Him Into A Tyrant by Elose11(op): 6:15am On Aug 23, 2016
The move by President Muhammadu Buhari to secure emergency powers aimed at addressing the nation’s economic crisis may not see the light of the day, as senators yesterday rejected the proposed bill, saying Buhari was seeking to transform himself into a tyrant and would foist a dictatorship on the nation.

The bill entitled, “Emergency Economy Stabilisation Bill 2016”, will be sent to the National Assembly by the president upon resumption from its summer vacation and after the Eid el Kabir holidays.

However, given the reaction of some senators to the proposed emergency powers being sought by Buhari through the bill, the legislation may be thrown out.
Several senators, who spoke to THISDAY monday, vehemently kicked against it, adding that it was “dead on arrival”.

According to the senators, who did not want to be named, some of the provisions in the bill were unnecessary, describing it as nothing more than a subtle way of avoiding counterpart funding by the Buhari administration.

According to them, if the bill is passed as proposed, the president will gradually transform himself into a dictator and draw Nigeria back to the path of military rule, which it exited 17 years ago.

They said without the so-called emergency powers at his disposal, Buhari has continued to trample on the powers of the legislature, explaining that if given further powers, he would more or less reduce the National Assembly to a rubber stamp like the kinds of legislature that exist in China and Russia.

Accordingly, the senators who spoke to THISDAY vowed to kill the bill before Buhari kills the entire legislature and by extension, the nation’s traumatised democracy.

An unnamed government official had disclosed to reporters at the weekend that Buhari would seek emergency powers from the National Assembly to push his planned stimulus for the economy.

The objectives of the bill will include shoring up the value of the naira, job creation, boosting foreign exchange reserves, reviving the manufacturing sector, and improving power supply.

The quest for emergency powers by the executive is the initiative of the economic team headed by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, which has been saddled with the responsibility of reviewing various policies in the country and their effects on the economy.

The economic team examined the state of the nation and concluded that there was urgent need to take some drastic decisions that the nation’s extant laws do not provide for.

This assumption by the team was predicated on the belief that the recession might last longer than expected and Nigerians would not get the desired respite, which is the goal of this government.
As provided in the bill, the president is seeking unfettered powers to set aside some extant laws and simultaneously be empowered to come up with an economic recovery initiative within the next one year.

Among others, the bill also seeks to empower Buhari to abridge the procurement process with a view to guaranteeing stimulus spending on critical sectors of the economy; make orders to favour local contractors/suppliers in contract awards; abridge the process of sale or lease of government assets to generate revenue; and allow virement of budgetary allocations to projects that are urgent, without a recourse to the National Assembly.

It also seeks to amend laws such as the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Act, so that states that cannot access their cash trapped in the commission’s accounts as a result of their inability to meet the counterpart funding can do so.

Tell those political Ashewos! The Amaechis of this world.
PoliticsDon’t Accuse PDP, Shehu Sani Tells El-rufai, Other PDP Defectors by Elose11(op): 9:37pm On Aug 15, 2016
Sen. Shehu Sani (APC Kaduna Central) said Gov. El-Rufai of Kaduna State had no justification to blame the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Nigeria’s problems. Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State (2nd right), and Senator Sheu Sani. Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday, Sani said all defectors from PDP were part of the party and should not absolve themselves of blame. He said that the governor was a PDP beneficiary for 14 years out of the 16 years of the part’s reign and as such could not claim to be innocent. He added that the Kaduna state governor came to limelight through the PDP from 1999 until 2014 when he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). ``If you google El-Rufai, you will see him from 1999 but if you google Shehu Sani, you will see him from 1989. ``So you can see. He was brought to limelight by virtue of being in the politics of the PDP. ``I laughed at him when he said `the PDP has destroyed Nigeria for 16 years’ while he enjoyed 14 years out of the 16. ``For somebody who has spent 14 out of the 16 years, you cannot say he’s a repented man in two years. ``If you repent in two years, it has to take time to reach people who have never been sinners, like me. ``I have never eaten from the PDP nor have I ever been under their umbrella. ``But he was part and parcel of it for this period of time,” he said. He said that the APC was a convergence of forces from other political parties, adding that some of the people who came to the APC still had their PDP mentality. Sani insisted that the defectors should also carry all attributes of change and not act like they are still in the PDP. According to him, it is not unusual to have people with PDP mentality still entrenched in the APC. ``They do not want criticism, they do not want contrary opinions, but that is what drove them from that very party. ``When they moved out of the PDP, what they said is that they were denied the right to express themselves on the way the party should be run. ``Nigerians have a very sadly short memory: We forget people who were part and parcel of the destruction of this country simply because they change political parties and then they become saints. ``It is good when you repent, but we should remind you each time you try to insult our intelligence, to tell us that you are clean and every other person is dirty.’’ Sani said that the governor was not making life easy for the common people in Kaduna state. According to Sani, when the APC took over from the PDP, Kaduna people had expected to witness changes, but rather than change, the government brought policies that imposed hardship on them. He said that the governor had been out of Kaduna for too long and so did not understand the pains and aspirations of the people. “Since El-Rufai took over power, he has kept on unleashing one programme after another that further made things difficult for the people. ``We are still within the APC but right now, the problem has gone beyond me and him. ``It also involves stakeholders in the state: the party is divided. There are people who have invested heavily in the party, they are marginalised, not carried along and a seeming new group has emerged challenging his dominance and authority in the party. He added that El-Rufai should treat people who contributed to the victory of the party in Kaduna as equals to ensure peace and reconciliations. He added that the governor should also recognise the poor and refrain from policies that would further impoverish them. He urged the governor to stop all unwarranted demolition in the state, especially when the land allegedly encroached into belonged to the Federal Government and beyond his jurisdiction.

PoliticsOshiomhole Clash With Two Ex-pdp Governors Over Economy by Elose11(op):
The Governor of Edo State,
Adams Oshiomole, on
Wednesday clashed with a
former Governor of Cross
River State, Donald Duke,
and ex-Niger State
Governor, Babangida Aliyu,
over the poor performance
of the economy and decline
of the Naira.

The incident occurred
during the second public
lecture organised by the
Kukah Centre for Faith,
Leadership and Public
Policy, which had the
theme, ‘From activism to
political power: The
challenges of democratic
governance in Nigeria’.
At the programme,
moderated by the founder
of the centre and Catholic
Bishop of Sokoto Diocese,
Rev. Fr. Mathew Hassan
Kukah, Oshiomhole
condemned the previous
Peoples Democratic Party
government.

He said crass corruption
and looting, which
characterised the PDP 16
years in power, were
responsible for Nigeria’s
current economic crisis.
Oshiomhole said, “We have
to change the society
where all you need to do is
to get your brother elected
and get him around the
Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation and he turns to
an oil marketer, do some
papers and become a
billionaire in the name of
subsidy.

“We have to change that;
and that is what this change
is all about. There is always
a time between decisions
and consequences. What
politicians did in the past;
that is the consequences
we are facing now.
“There is always a timeline
between massive looting of
the treasury, transfer of
defence budget to private
pockets, taking money
meant for infrastructure
and spending $16bn on
light (power). The more
money you spend, the
more darkness.”

Duke, who was the
chairman of the occasion,
had earlier criticised the All
Progressives Congress-led
Federal Government and its
change mantra, adding that
the change campaign was
nothing but fake
propaganda.
He said, “Sadly, politicians
in our society today are
mostly jobbers and budget
padders advocating for
themselves and not the
society. They cleverly and
surreptitiously apply the
word change. I, of course,
won’t use that word
because as a member of
the PDP or what is left of it
that word change ‘dey do
me one kind.”

Duke also questioned the
sincerity of Oshiomole as a
labour leader during his
days as President of the
Nigerian Labour Congress.
He said idealism then
contradicted some of the
programmes championed
by the Edo State governor.

Similarly, Niger State
former Governor, Aliyu
tackled the Federal
Government, APC
governors and their
economic policies, warning
that such economic policies
had increased the suffering
of Nigerians.
Aliyu confronted Oshiomole,
who he said benefited
tremendously from the PDP
government but only turned
around to ridicule the party.

“During my time we paid
salaries. In the North, apart
from Kano State, the rest
18 states are civil service
states. Payment of salary is
very crucial in sustaining
the economy. This time
around, they don’t
understand anything about
the essence of salary.”

Speaking on the policies of
the APC government, Aliyu
said, “Please Governor
Oshiomole, talk to Governor
Rochas Okorocha; tell him
that civil servants were not
employed to be farmers.”
He said although the
governor can defend the
government, the prevailing
economic circumstance was
biting the masses severely.

“Go to the market, go to
the streets, you will hear
cry. I don’t understand this
silence when some people
are messing up,” Aliyu said.

The Director of the Kukah
Centre, Dr. Arthur-Martins
Aginam, said the forum
among others was to
elevate the quality of
political discourse in the
country by generating ideas
through robust and
informed engagement
between public officials and
citizens and in the
processes deepen the
nation’s democracy.

PoliticsBuhari; The Unteachable President. by Elose11(op): 7:43am On Aug 07, 2016
Personally, I've got no issues with a man being 'innocently' ignorant of certain things. We certainly can't know everything.

Trouble arises when an ignorant man mixes his ignorance with a worrisome degree of arrogance and "I know-it-all-attitide".

Nigeria is not in this current mess simply because our president is some poorly lettered 16th century-brained Septuagenarian. No! We are where we are today as a result of the fact that we have an arrogant, ignorant and unteachable old man with some terribly twisted Messianic complex as president.

Let's not get it twisted, even an unlettered man with the mindset of the pre-medieval era can be schooled as long as he is willing to learn.

President Muhammadu Buhari's biggest problem arises from the fact that he is so arrogant even in his ignorance, with an ego that is terribly too big for him. To make matters worse, he remains unteachable...always acting like he knows everything even when he knows very little. He sees himself as a Messiah of some sort....a man sent from heaven to deliver Nigerians. And it would seem to me that he is under some kind of illusion that he's the only man who can 'save' Nigeria and Nigerians. Ironically, he is the biggest danger facing Nigeria and Nigerians right about now.

For over six months, Mr Buhari refused to appoint any minister. He ran the country the exact way a cattle farmer runs his cattle farm. This is a man with very limited education but rather than appoint well lettered people to help him pilot the affairs of the country, he chose to run the destiny of approximately 200 million people the way he handled his homosexual cows in daura. That singular act portrayed him as a man with some twisted mindset of being the only one out of millions of people who could get things done. (Although, this horde of idiots led by that 1st class red-beret wearing slowpoke called Solomon Dalong he wasted 6 months searching for as ministers has made it seem like he should have simply continued running his "one man show"wink

Even when its now very obvious that the economy is in a very terrible state and may take a very long time before recovering, Mr Buhari has continued to ignore calls to set up an economic team. He claims he has one already and has even taken a swipe at those asking for an economic team.

Now let's look at some of those who make up the so called economic team he claims he has:

It is headed by the vice president Osibanjo who is a professor of law( not an economist)

We have Buhari's chief of Staff; Abba Kyari as member. Mr Kyari is a lawyer who got his Masters degree in law from Cambridge in 1984 (he is not an economist)

We have the minister of national planning; Udoma Udo Udoma who is equally a lawyer (not an economist) Don't forget, this was the same man who couldn't do a simple due diligence on an important document such as the 2016 budget despite the fact that he is the minister of budget and national planning.

We have the minister of trade and investment; Mr Okechukwu Enelamah who is a medical doctor by training.

We have a finance minister who is more of an accountant than an economist. The same 'technical' finance minister who didn't even know for a fact whether the economy under her watch is on recession or not.

Where is the economic team here??

Is this the team any right thinking person should hang his hope on?? Is this the team we should trust to take us out of our present economic quandary?

Does it take a PhD to know that you don't set up a team made up of mostly lawyers and doctors and expect them to come up with workable plan and policies that would take your country out of recession??

Do we need to break Mr Buhari skull to make him understand that by "economic team", we mean a group of seasoned economists who went to school to read not law, not medicine, not engineering but ECONOMICS as a course. People who are experts in the field!

Do we really need to break this down in Fulani language for Mr Buhari to understand it?

We have a CBN Governor Mr Emefiele who was not allowed to take decision on whether or not the naira should be devalued and when finally, the almighty president decided on that, he still didn't allow for the naira to be allowed to float freely.

Today, the same president who refused to even make dollars available for students studying abroad and businessmen trying to resurrect the dead economy have now ordered the CBN to not only make dollars available to Muslim pilgrims but to equally subsidize same with not less than 7 billion naira by selling it to muslim pilgrims at N197 per dollar. This is an economy currently on recession. This is a president that swore his govt would never fund religious pilgrimages. Apparently, he was referring to Christian pilgrimages.

Just take a few seconds to think of the negative impact this foolish ill-adviced decision would have on the economy which is currently in coma.

Does this sound like a decision a man with any ounce of gray matters upstair would take??

Is anyone still in doubt that what we now have under this unlettered highly vindictive ethnic cum Islamic bigot called Buhari is a COWntry not a Country??

For shame!!
EducationMinistry Of Education Denied Harmonising HND And university Degrees by Elose11(op): 10:24pm On Aug 05, 2016
The Ministry of Education has denied harmonizing the degrees and higher national diploma awarded by universities and polytechnics.
A spokesperson for the ministry denied recent reports that the dichotomy between Bachelors and HNDs had been abolished, saying HND holders must meet new requirements to attain the Bachelors level.
Speaking to PREMIUM TIMES on Friday, Benjamin Goong, said the ministry lacked the power to end the inequality.
He however said the government had taken steps to bridge the gap to ensure HND holders are treated fairly when seeking for jobs.
“Two weeks ago, the ministry sent a memo to the National Council of Establishments (NCE) to institute a bridging program for the HND holders and the proposal was approved.
“The bridging program is for HND holders who can either attend the National Teachers Institute (NTI) or any institution offering post-graduate diploma programs, before they can attain the level graduates can attain in the public sector.
“As per the approved memo, after the bridging program, HND holders will now be offered jobs from grade level 8 and finish at grade level 17 like graduates. Before now, HND holders were only allowed grade level 7 and finish at grade level 14.
“That is as far as it goes for now regarding the B.Sc and HND dichotomy. Both are still very different from each other,” he said.

An education analyst, Dorothy Oseni, said creation of jobs for both B.Sc and HND holders was the surest way of bridging the gap between both classes of educated people.
“When the government, industries and companies no longer discriminate against HND holders in the labour market, the dichotomy will die a natural death,” she said

Jonathan exiting the villa after meeting with Buhari

Ex-president Goodluck Jonathan has downplayed the importance of his latest visit to President Muhammadu Buhari.

On Wednesday, Jonathan visited Buhari at the presidential villa, drawing the curiosity of journalists on the purpose of the meeting.

But speaking with state house correspondents before exiting the villa, Jonathan said he had met the president many times without the notice of journalists, because such meetings were in the night.

He added that as a former president, he had become a property of the state and visits to the president should be expected.

“You asked why I came to see the president today; one key thing is that having been a head of government, a former president, you become a state property,” he said.

“That’s the privilege you have but every privilege has its corresponding responsibility, and once you become a state property, most of your international engagements that have to do with public addresses and some international assignments, they become national assignments; you brief the President.

“Even when I was here, the former presidents used to do that and see me. I have been coming; most times I come in the night; that’s why you don’t see me.

“I came to brief the president about some of my engagements. As you are aware, I will leading the AU elections monitoring team to Zambia, I came to brief the president about some of these external engagements. It is the tradition.”

Jonathan also spoke on resolving renewed agitation in the Niger Delta, saying all the stakeholders must be involved in efforts to find solutions.

“It’s not just about me but about all the traditional rulers, elders and opinion leaders that are of the Ijaw ethnic nationality,” he said.

“We have been in touch to see that peace reigns in the country; those of you that have followed my talks when I was here, my emphasis was always that we need a united Nigeria and I always emphasise that Nigeria is great not just about the oil. So many countries produce more oil than Nigeria but nobody notices them.

“We are great because of our size, the human resources we have, the diversity we have. If we fragmentise the country into small components, we will be forgotten by the world. That has been my focal position and without peace there cannot be development anywhere in the world; we are all working collectively to see that issues are resolved.”

Asked for his comments about the fight against corruption, he said: “I don’t want to talk about that one because there are too many cases that are in court.

“It will not be fair to make comments; I will talk at the appropriate time when most of these things are resolved.”

Christianity EtcChristians who sold the church for a pot of porridge should bow their head in sh by Elose11(op): 3:40pm On Aug 03, 2016
PASTOR BRIGHT BAYO OLADEJI WROTE:

"Where are the Christians who sold the Church? The Islamic agenda is being perfected. Prof Ishaq Oloyede, a preeminent Islamic fanatic who said he was not aware Christians are being attacked and killed is now to head JAMB replacing Prof Ojerinde, a Baptist.

Four Muslims were not replaced, but left to continue. Out of the 17 offices, 9 new replacement are Muslims and 4 retained are Muslims. 13 out of 17 are now Muslims. NUC, Muslim, JAMB, Muslim; TETCOM, Muslim.

Where are those Christian leaders who sold the Church for a plate of porridge? Where are those telling us Prof Yemi Osinbajo would stand for the Church being a Pastor?

Do they involve him in all these lopsided appointments in favour of the North and Muslims or not? Do we have Christians among the APC leaders? Does Odigie-Oyegun, the chairman of the ruling party belong to the Catholic church?

The fact that Buhari released these appointments the same day, the PUNCH Newspaper published an Editorial titled"Buhari's parochial appointments", a paper that endorsed his candidacy is a dirty slap on the nation.

To say the least, it is a corruption with immunity. Many are afraid and being intimidated by the security operatives. Have we become second class citizens in our own country?"

MY TAKE:

Sadly the answer to the question is "YES", Christians are now second class citizens in Nigeria. We warned our people but they wouldn't listen.

Nigerians said they wanted "change" and now they must live with it. Every Christian that supported President Buhari and the APC, including some of the most prominent Church leaders, should bow their heads in shame.

As long as this evil continues we will not remain silent and neither shall we be intimidated. No matter how hard they try Nigeria will NEVER be Islamised and neither will our faith be rubbished.
PoliticsBuhari’s Parochial Appointments - Punch Editorial. by Elose11(op): 2:53pm On Aug 01, 2016
CARRIED to power on a groundswell of goodwill and disgust at the thoroughly corrupt Goodluck Jonathan administration, Muhammadu Buhari appears bent on political self-immolation. While he received massive support from across the country to become President, he is by his appointments, presenting himself as a parochial, sectional leader. For the sake of the country’s corporate survival, he should rise above primordial instincts and become a father to all Nigerians.

In his inaugural speech just over a year ago, Buhari promised Nigerians that “having just a few minutes ago sworn on the Holy Book, I intend to keep my oath and serve as President to all Nigerians. I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody.” But too often, the pledge has been honoured in the breach. Buhari’s sectionalism is not only unprecedented, it could not have come at a worse time. The reality today is that Nigerians are deeply divided. Seventeen years of dashed hopes of progress under a democratic dispensation have reopened the deep fissures in the polity and polarised the populace into mutually suspicious camps. Sectarianism and ethnicity have been rearing their poisonous heads. The presidential election of 2015 was particularly divisive, with some major actors openly deploying base religious and regional sentiments. Add to this the terrible state of the economy that Buhari inherited, headlined by a collapse in global crude oil prices, our main export earner, and the rapacious emptying of the national treasury by previous governments, and you have a seething, discontented people.

It is a sad reality of the Nigerian experience that when crisis − political or economic − hits, segments of the populace retreat into ethnic and sectarian cocoons. It is in this combustible mix that Buhari stubbornly presses ahead with appointments that weigh heavily in favour of his northern regional base.

He struck again last month when he removed Ibe Kachikwu as head of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to put a Northerner; named another, Hadiza Bala-Usman, as managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority along with three executive directors, two of whom are also Northerners. Before then, he had ring-fenced himself with appointees from his northern constituency at the Presidency, thereby deepening the long-held fears of many Southerners that he has not overcome his well-known insularity.

But the 1999 Constitution explicitly stipulates in Chapter 14 subsection 3 that the “composition of the Government of the Federation or any of its agencies and the conduct of its affairs shall…reflect the federal character of Nigeria and the need to promote national unity, and also to command national loyalty, thereby ensuring that there shall be no predominance of persons from a few states or from a few ethnic or other sectional groups…” Buhari is breaching this with impunity in his appointments. Apart from this, Nigeria’s plural setting demands that no group or ethnic nationality is seen as too domineering in critical areas of governance.

Among his first appointments, even while he dithered on assembling a cabinet: he recalled a retired officer to man the Department of State Services; a former army officer to head the Nigeria Customs Service; a personal acquaintance as Chief of Staff, and loaded the other security and law enforcement agencies heavily in favour of Northerners. While the DSS head is from his hometown, Daura, the others are also almost all Northerners and overwhelmingly Muslims. In spite of public opinion, he replaced the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, a Southerner, with a Northerner, an assistant inspector-general whose ascension induced the retirement in one fell swoop of 21 DIGs and AIGs who were senior to him. This is beyond absurdity.

We declare emphatically that this is corruption. It is wrong to view stealing of government funds as the only form of corruption. A former member of the House of Representatives, Junaid Muhammed, alleges that not only is Buhari sectional in his appointments, several appointees are actually his relatives. Nigerians did not vote against the Jonathan administration’s impunity for corruption, only to be assaulted with another pernicious impunity for cronyism.

Buhari should be told that sectionalism and nepotism are also acts of corruption. You do not wage war against financial corruption while indulging in sectional and sectarian favouritism. It is self-defeating; a veritable weak link that the formidable ranks of those fighting back furiously to preserve the existing corrupt order are already capitalising on. The President simply does not need this. Many are willing to concede that he is only demonstrating political naiveté; now, however, is the time to radically change tactics.

The country is in a bad shape, compelling that all efforts be made to rally all segments of the polity behind measures to reverse economic recession, defeat terrorism in the North-East, renewed militancy and sabotage in the South-South zone, Fulani herdsmen’s terrorism in the North-Central and general insecurity across the country. The government admitted that the country is technically in recession last week, while Bloomberg reported that foreign reserves fell to just over $26 billion in June; oil production also fell to about 1.6 million barrels per day, while over 4,440 megawatts of power were lost last week, both due to sabotage of crude and gas facilities by criminals in the Niger Delta region. Meanwhile, though seriously degraded, Boko Haram terrorists are recovering their ability to ambush and inflict casualties on Nigerian troops.

More importantly, the South-East and South-South zones voted massively against Buhari, who is deepening their alienation from his government by his lopsided appointments. But in truly democratic societies, elected leaders go all out to unite their people after elections. Apart from meeting the constitutional requirement that a minister be appointed from each of the 36 states, the two zones are sparsely represented in the Federal Government. If some past presidents indulged in primitive sectionalism, Buhari should not. Olusegun Obasanjo, alone among our last four presidents, significantly sought to rise above such primordial instincts. Buhari, also a former military head of state, and senior citizen, ought to do better, having tried and failed thrice before to win the Presidency exclusively with Northern votes. His party, the All Progressives Congress, the National Assembly and civil society groups should be more vigorous in resisting this trend.

It is time to put an end to this provincial inclination. Nigeria has over 250 ethnic nationalities and wide disparities in culture. If, as Buhari wrongly repeats that Nigeria’s unity is inviolable, why then does he alienate many Nigerians with appointments? Until we take the right, inevitable step of restructuring the country, the minimum expected of a Nigerian president is to ensure equity in federal appointments.
PoliticsVisionless Govt: Reno Omokri Reminds Osinbajo Of Statement Against Jonathan by Elose11(op): 12:05pm On Jul 31, 2016
FOURTEEN months after taking over the reins of power in Aso Villa, former Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokri has reminded Vice President Yemi Osinbajo of a statement credited to him countdown to the 2015 election, where he said “Jonathan was leading a visionless government.” President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the opening of a 2-day National Economic Council Retreat at the Statehouse Conference Centre on 21st March 2016. Omokri, who took to his Facebook page yesterday, asked Vice President Osinbajo if he may now have seen that leading a nation like Nigeria was not easy, particularly given the state of the nation under the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Osinbajo was said to have made the scathing statement in a series of tweets via his verified Twitter handle @ProfOsinbajo on December 22, 2014. The Vice President referring to the Jonathan’s administration then, wrote: “Nigeria is great and her citizens give so much, yet get nothing in return from today’s inadequate and visionless leadership.” But in a flashback yesterday, Omokri wrote: “After a year in power, Professor Yemi Osinbajo may now see it is not easy to lead a nation. “Does he still maintain this accusation against Goodluck Jonathan he made last year? May I remind him that the two main achievements his boss (President Buhari) has celebrated in the last year are the Treasury Single Account and the commissioning of the Abuja-Kaduna fast rail. “Both of them were largely the hand work of the gentleman he called visionless. My prayer is that the Vice President should read Psalm 15. As a man of God, he should know the implication of that Psalm.” However, the Goodnews Bible version of Psalm 15:1-5 reads: “LORD, who may enter your Temple? Who may worship on Zion, your sacred hill? “Those who obey God in everything and always do what is right, whose words are true and sincere, and who do not slander others…”

PoliticsContinuity In Edo On What? - Dr Tony Iredia by Elose11(op): 11:33am On Jul 31, 2016
The word, “continuity” seems to be central to the campaigns of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the forthcoming governorship election in Edo state. From the way the word has been severally bandied around of recent by leaders, officials and members of the party, the latter are no doubt convinced that the out-going governor, Adams Oshiomhole who belongs to their party has done well and as such should be succeeded by another APC man.

What does not appear to occur to the party is that there are so many things that have happened in the state that many citizens never wished for and never expected. Oshiomhole As a result, people are not likely to pray for a continuation of such things making it obvious that continuity as a campaign strategy is not full proof. And because negatives stick more easily, there are likely to be many people who are not happy with the party.

Therefore, the APC has a big burden to disabuse the minds of voters concerning certain negative issues. Unfortunately, rather than constructively use the current period of electioneering to undertake effective public enlightenment and voter education, it has embraced mundane political rallies which feature singing, dancing, acrobatic displays and defamatory statements. Edo is not among those states of Nigeria that are described as educationally disadvantaged. Its people are therefore different from those that are usually led by the nose.

Such a population needs to be told what exactly the coming government would specifically pursue towards improving the living standards of the people. If therefore a political rally is allowed to function as an opera as has been seen of recent, those in attendance would be merely entertained but not persuaded to make informed decisions on voting day.

There is also the rather frightening feeling that the APC is pursuing a third term agenda considering that the dominant person in all its rallies is the out-going governor. So, who really is the APC candidate? It certainly cannot be the outgoing governor since our constitution forbids a third tenure for any individual. It is therefore likely to be someone else, but can that person take control and sustain governance if he cannot function as the rallying point in the several appeals for votes?

If the out-going governor is serving as a godfather; that is a greater pity because it means that god-fatherism which the APC government says it came to stop 7 years ago has actually been nurtured into a monster. So is godfatherism part of what those coming are to continue?

Edo State has had one federal university in Benin, one state university in Ekpoma and at least 3 popular private universities in Benin, Okada and Ogwa which clearly shows that what the state needs is not additional universities. Surprisingly, the APC government hastily constructed another state university in Iyamho-the outgoing governor’s village and “earmarked” another at Ekiadolor.

Whereas there is nothing wrong in establishing a major project in the governor’s village because Iyamho is an Edo location that also deserves to be developed but a university, which the state has in at least 5 other locations, cannot be a well thought-out priority of the state at the point of building one in Iyamho. Instead, the state would have been the better for it if Iyamho had been made to house some other employment yielding and development-oriented projects like industries. In other words, it is either that the government did not put on a thinking cap or it did not have one for proper public policy formulation. As it is now, no one can blame a new APC governor if he decides to build another university in his own village when he comes to power because his party has helped him to canvass continuity before his election. Meanwhile the state government owned Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma is begging to survive while the Tayo Akpata University Ekiadolor which was conceived along with that of Iyamho is yet to take-off.

Edo as a state is reputed to be the cradle of African civilization with an intimidating cultural heritage. It is a mono-ethnic state whose people are raised to respect others especially elders. A cursory look at the relationship between the current APC government and other people would reveal that there is no former indigenous governor of the state that was not at one time or the other publicly tongue-lashed. Even elder statesmen are constantly abused in the media by the current governor.

Some of them are alleged to have committed some offences which are reportedly documented in some books that government says it is opening or will soon open. Many months back, Governor Oshiomhole at a media conference, promised that a few days after the conference, the documents would be deposited with security agencies in Abuja while those indicted would proceed to detention.

Every Nigerian has a right to report any crime but no one including a governor has a right to find suspects guilty before they are tried by a court of competent jurisdiction in a country which says everyone is presumed innocent until proven otherwise. It is also offensive to publicly abuse elders and thereby desecrate Edo culture. By holding on to the files which allegedly contain reports on corrupt activities only to brandish them occasionally to gain political leverage, the APC government in Edo stands the risk of becoming an accomplice.

So will the policy of continuity be used in future to blackmail suspects? With continuity as a selling point, would Edo people continue to experience discrimination in governance in which for instance roads in the GRA are not maintained because according to government, it is rich people who live there? Again will other political parties be allowed to use the state owned stadium as well as the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS)? What about multiple and increased taxation, will they continue? Would local government funds continue to be manipulated while the salaries of their workers remain unpaid? Will pensioners owed several months pension remain in penury? If all we have said so far will or will not happen, the people deserve to know the nature of continuity to expect.

PoliticsRe: I Did What Anenih Failed To Do In Esanland — Oshiomhole by Elose11(m): 11:22am On Jul 31, 2016
Oshomhole can only deceive the gullible. Anenih has never governed Edo state. As a minister, he represents the federal government. All the federal roads in Esan land were in good shape when Anenih was minister. As PDP bot chairman, how would Anenih have develop Esan? By using his own money? Oshomhole is the governor of Edo state. Money for developing the state, of which Esan is part is sent monthly to Oshomhole by the federal govt. Anenih was never given such money. Oshomhole used money that is meant for the development of the generality of Edo state, to enrich himself and his cronies. He never considered Esan land as deserving of development. It's now that he needs Esan votes that he is awarding contract for the dualization of Ekpoma road. Why did you not award that road years ago when you were doing that of Auchi and your villages? Just as you are giving the House speakership back to Esan, after taken it from them some months back. Esan people are wiser now. You have deceived them enough! It doesn't matter if APC wins Edo state, the Esans will not vote Oshomhole or APC's Obaseki. You can take that to the bank!

The esan re to edo State what the igbos are to Nigeria. They are both united in one thing: cry of marginalisation even when they have held noble positions in successive governments at the federal and State levels. The hatred the Esan man has for the binis even when they share great similarities with the binis in traditional greetings, names etc is unparallel in history. Their love for the PDP is liken to the igbos love for PDP..they cant read the hands writing on the wall that your Own senatorial Zone alone cant Win gobernorship election when you openly Display hatred for other zones like Anenih is doing by asking Esanland to vote PDP. Should PDP lose the September 10 election and APC emerge victorious, esan will start shouting marginalisation afternoon shooting their legs on their feet like the people across the Niger in the last general Elektrons. Why not have both options so that any party that wirst, esan people wont be left out.
The op goofed when he said 'Edo monarch'. I dont know the Kind of School people attend this days. A monarch is a King or Queen ruling a country or Empire as defined by the Oxford Advance Learner's Dictionary, 6th Edition. And in Edo state, we have only one Monarch, the Oba of Benin. It is tantamount to royal treason to refer to other romance fathers in Edo state as Monarch. They are Dukes because their royal right subsist from the Oba of Benin who has suzarainty over them. So esanland has no monarch in the narrow sense of the meaning of the word, rather they have Enijies meaning Dukes corrupted form of Enigies(edo Word for dukes).
Though your long epistle does not deserve a reply by us, I could not help but reply on the bolded. You were making sense on the op's use of the word monarch, until you derailed by ascribing the word to the Oba. The dictionary definition you quote does not apply to the Oba too. He is not ruling any country in the modern sense of the word. The Enigies and the Oba are all traditional rulers. None is subservient to the other. The Benin empire had since been confined to the dustbin of history.
And mind you, the Esans do not hate the Benins. Remember, Esan i gbedo! The Benins only have this pathological fears of the Esans. We have huge respect for the Benins. Example kolanuts can not be broken by an Esan man in a gathering if a Benin man is there.
The earlier the Benin man sees the Esans as partners in the greater Edo future, the better for everybody. The Esans deserves some respect too.
