Business › Re: Tariff By Trickery: How 15% Import Duty Could Betray The President And Nigerians by ElSudani: 2:39pm On Oct 27, 2025
Reference:
That is countries that have independent, apolitical, incorruptible and up and doing institutions of supervision and justice.

Does this describe Nigeria?
If not the monopoly just shifts from one party to the other, simple. The effects on the economy will barely change.

Government should put the horse before the cart.
Get more enterprises into the market first so we can properly calibrate the industry then you can proceed with affirmative action.

One industrialist does not make for an industry. Just as one team does not make a league. The main benefit of industrialization is competition through free market.
Who is saying others cannot compete? BUA and others have licenses to build refineries. The more the merrier, Dangote is not saying others cannot join in and those new ones should be protected by the government as well when they come on board.

themosthigh:
The hard truth: the Dangote Refinery can’t thrive without protection. Either the government slaps tariffs or import duties on foreign fuel, or it sells crude to Dangote at a discount and there’s no third option. The global refiners he’s competing against are ruthless, efficient, and masters of complex financial games that’ll take him years to catch up to. The President now faces a brutal choice: help Dangote succeed, or watch Nigeria’s biggest private investment bleed out. One way or another, Nigerians will pay the price. So let’s stop pretending and let them play their hand. We are horses to be heavily loaded, yet it’s important for a horse to let their masters succeed, so that we can all be well fed and nigeria becomes great.
There's no brutal choice actually, the sane thing to is to protect the refinery. That is what other countries do.

Prices are dropping, and someone is angry. What is the name of these Nigerians.
My brother I tire o. The cry about 14 months ago was "hunger o" "ebi npa wa o" now prices are coming down and some people are complaining again.
Though I agree there should be some synergy between the farmers and the government so the farmers will not be incurring loses.

That is just sick. He must have done so bad that he couldn't afford to live as a regular citizen.
Soon we will also see him soiling himself in public like his other sit tight counterpart.

Beautiful write up.

I say again, what are the enviable things about the African culture?

Former French president is in prison.

Obasanjo who financed a university, farm and library through graft is a national icon. Buhari, was given a state burial. Tinubu is lauded for financial misappropriation. Take from the poor and give to the rich, that’s his motto. Create an oligarchy that’s in-formidable .
He lifted this from the story of the Nigerian writer whose idea was stolen by Disney. Unless OP was the author of the original post.

Talk with reason
Have you heard Russian shouting death to America and Israel before like All Iran's proxies do
So what will make America go fight Russia because of Ukraine that is not NATO member and an European country
Did anyone shout death to America before 1948?
Once again Trump is dancing to the tunes dictated by Putin, who knows maybe the Ukrainians will aslo start shouting death to America in future.

He should go to Ukraine and threaten Russia to use force to straighten them up as well!
It is as simple as this. I believe it has alway been like that, it is human nature.

LagosOrigin:
Tinubu bought and launched the tractors just for the camera, he has no plan of giving to the farmers for free.
For free? Or rent it for a small fee so others can also rent it when you don't need it. And the small fees can be used in maintaining the equipment.
For free! Some of you are just wonderful.
I bet if you get it for free you will sell it and marry another wife.

You lot and empty threats are 5 and 6. Come 2027 now, it will be tears everywhere enough to fill thousands of Olympic size swimming pool.

Yes Yorubas will "learn the hard way" as you have been threatening for 100 years now while it is you and your folks crying year in and year out for decades now.
Don't mind them, they actually think people take them seriously. Tinubu government was bad to them even before he became president.
His government will still be bad even if Nigeria becomes the leading economy in the world under his watch.

You will forever be remembered for even if people don't recognize you, at least you won my heart.

To solve Nigeria's problem doesn't require much, just be fair, just and empathetic to others. Carry every tribe and region along and govern with love and all Nigerians will love you and wish you well.

But some people said no they prefer a nation run on injustice, bias, marginalization and wickedness, we shall see
Right, Victor Banjo did more than this and it didn't stop Ojukwu from killing him cold blooded.

Well, our billionaires were not even produced in Nigerian universities.

Again, another salient but silent part is that students from these ivy leagues were either already children of billionaires and or provided the connection to prosperous other individuals.
God bless you, this is exactly what is going on. It is not about academic excellence alone.
