In an earlier report, Federal Ministry of Education has instructed school's to proceed on Mid term break. Using the election as an excuse to call off the strike is what I call 'saving face', because any student that registered around the school can as well get there for the election

The striking academic staff Union of universities claim they are putting into consideration the disenfranchisement of a large number of students due to the industrial action while consulting with their zonal chapters, because most of the students did their voter registration on their respective campuses.

If u want to study political science just to become a politician u are very funny and ur sense of humor deserves an accolade. Anybody can be a politician regardless of the course they read. Secondly, let me disabuse the minds of many people who say Goodluck did it to Sanusi. Get this in your head; The Central Bank Governor is under the executive arm of government. The Central Bank regulates financial institutions and executes policies to that effect. The Central Bank Governor is also a political office holder who serves at the pleasure of his president.

The CJN on the other hand is the head of an entirely different arm of government. He is not a political office holder but a judicial officer. Under the principle of separation of powers, he does not serve at the pleasure of the president and as such cannot be suspended by said president.

He can only be removed and the constitution has laid down steps and procedures for his removal. The purported suspension is not only illegal, it is also dangerous for our democracy as this can lead to anarchy in the future where presidents and governors 'suspend' their CJs for not carrying out their bidding.

The constitution started on the wrong foot by allowing a president to appoint the CJN

Education is seen as the process of acquiring knowledge and skills which add value to one's life and the society at large. Without education, one is as good as useless and a potential threat to the society.

However, the Nigerian leaders are skeptical about this fact and see education as a burden on their treasury and a waste of time because of their vicious belief that what their academic institutions produce are half baked graduates that contribute nothing to the growth of the economy of the nation. But the only way they can redeem this is by sending their own children to school abroad while millions of Nigerians are locked away from school.

The university teachers under the ASUU union have been on strike since November 4th, 2018 and the strike looks nowhere near its end. The union and the Federal government of Nigeria have engaged in 8 meetings so far in an attempt to end the strike and get the frustrated students back to their various school but the meetings have been unproductive while the two parties themselves look confused and clueless as to the right thing to do in order to put an end the industrial action. After each meeting, the government delegation led by minister of labour and employment, Dr. Chris Ngige and that of the union led by the union president, prof. Biodun Ogunyemi always give account of conflicting out comes and we can't help but wonder if they always go to the same meeting. The minister would say a certain amount is released to address the demands of the striking union while the union leader would either deny the claim or say something different altogether. This has been the custom of their meetings and we are headed in no specific direction. The fight seems to be a battle of supremacy and who has the batter degree in cruelty.

Education, they say, is a right and not a privilege but this is completely frozen in Nigeria. We feel unfairly treated because we don't have access to schools abroad or private universities in Nigeria like their children and they deprive us of what is left for us in our public schools.

The seemingly cruel government decided to spend hefty amount of money on absurd projects which have no bearing on positive impact on the well being of the nation and deliberately turned blind eyes to the sinking nation. Their concern and intention is not to rescue Nigeria and her collapsing education system but how to satisfy their selfish interest. The universities have been shut down for three months now but their priorities are their political campaigns and how to retain their place in the government and inflict more pains on the citizens. They have refused to fund our universities because our campuses are not cattle ranches.

Our dear teachers claim they are fighting in our interest but the struggle is mainly selfish. They have not explored other options for pressing home their demand and their ultimate weapon has been keeping us away from school since time immemorial. We could have understood very well how resolute they are in this struggle if they were not on salary during this period of the strike. They are as bad as the people in the government except with a couple of degrees below. Even if the government releases the money you don't get to see defined impact on our schools. The largest portion goes to their pockets while the left over is sprinkled on our schools. This is let alone the severe hardship the students will have to go through when the strike is eventually suspended because the lecturers will be in a hurry to cover the academic work in little time.

Our last hope in the name of national association of Nigerian students(NANS) has gone rogue and useless to the grieving students. Our leaders have fail to stand up to their responsibilities and when the union was given a chance to meet the president of the country, the sane thing the NANS president could do was promise Mr. President 20 million votes.

We have lost hope and only God knows how long our stay at home will last. Our cries have fallen on deaf ears and the talk of the town is who wins the forthcoming presidential election.

Who will rescue us?
