The reason why lawyers have few jobs is simple, many people don't like litigation and those that do have to go thru long processes to resolve litigation issues and it takes years if it aint political..
If litigation was speedily dealt with, there will be more jobs for lawyers.....
We are a nation of 180 million people with less than 100K lawyers 180 to a lawyer
bad ratio if you ask me....
Law graduates are not Lawyers take note !!!!
America has many lawyers are they all jobless ??
Adaweezy, thank u very much jawe. Our Prof, Osahon7, seems to know all, I guess that's why he overlooked that simple fact.

YOU ARE IN 100L or Probably 200L,!! You will soon see the reality of the Law Profession in Nigeria
Osahon7:
you telling me what I know again? I school in Uniben! Have been here for the past 5years! Law admit abt 200 and send 180 to law skool every year! Talking about been called to bar! That's y we say graduate lawyers are too many! How can a lawyer graduate and wait for the next 10 or 7yrs before he is been called to bar?
Is dah fair? Is like saying we in the medical profession we finish frm medical skool and we wait for nxt 7years for internship or residency? My point is they are too many! Many graduate lawyers are roaming the streets!
I guess we are here to argue and not to attack our personalities. Apart from that be it an 100 or 200 level student, the fact still remains that you don't know much about the legal profession you claim to know. I agree that am a neophyte but that doesn't mean I should take what you said hook line and sinker. I guess, ur last statement should be referred to you. Do not live in the ecstasy of your stereotyped view about the legal profession (which you don't belong to), I will advise you to always get your facts right before you argue

" No amount of brilliance in a fine speech can make up for lack of evidence." Though, you wrote beautifully but you seemed to overlook some errors in your argument.

1. Schooling in Uuniben is not enough ground for you to know better than a law student of the same school or know the practice of law better.

2. Law students don't spend up to 7 or 10 years at home before being called to bar as postulated by you. Law students have to go to law school immediately after their university education where they spend at least a year and try to meet the requirements of being called to bar and after this they are called to bar. This is not compulsory though but necessary for anyone who want to practice in Nigeria.

3. If Faculty of Law in Uniben admits 200 students and sends 180, that doesn't make all the 180 students lawyers as not all of them will become lawyers. Some of them will surely fail their final bar exams and when this happens, the hope of being a lawyer that year will be shattered with sledge hammer. In 2014, about 6000 students wrote the final bar examination of which over 3000 candidates failed and this implied that those that failed won't become a lawyer or called to bar talk less of practising as a lawyer in Nigeria. He is just a law graduate and not a lawyer. If we are to follow your claim then we will erroneously say that the 6000 students that took the examination will be called to bar and become lawyers. You only included those that are not lawyers into the list of your lawyers that's y u said they are "too much"

4. Before anyone can practise in Nigeria as a lawyer, s/he must have attended Nigerian Law School, must have been called to bar and fulfil some compulsory requirements. Based on statistics, the Nigerian Law School has produced almost 90, 000 lawyers, some of which are dead, sick, travelled out, disrobe or not practising. if we take the population of practicing lawyers to be 90,000 (of which they are less than that) and the Nigerian population to be 180 000 000 (of which are more than that) then the percentage of lawyers to Nigerian population is 0.5%.

5. Don't mix things up. Graduate of laws are not lawyers 'cause they weren't called to bar while lawyers are those law graduates that were called to bar.

6. My conclusion is that lawyers are not too many. Your view is as a result of your stereotypical way of thinking.

Sir get your fact right o!! Here in Uniben they admit abt 200 student in 100 level! They send 180 student to law school every year!! They are just too much
FrancisTony:
True!
You have a point.
Unilag and UI admit over 300 & 150 Law students.
They should take cue from Medicine and Surgery.
I doubt if any school graduates more than 50 medical doctors.
Nigerian Law School hasn't trained up to 90 000 lawyers out of the over 180 millions of citizens in Nigeria and you say we have too many lawyers in the country. Out of the less than 90 thousand lawyers, some are dead, not practicing or travelled out to practice in another country and u know what that means I guess.

Boss, is that enough premise to prove that lawyers are too many in this country? Sorry pls, are you trying to tell me that all the 180 students will be called to bar? Before I can believe that lawyers are too many in this country, you have to prove it with cogent evidences and not a piece of evidence you got from somewhere which is not tantamount to the number of those that will be called to Bar.

I still find it very hard to believe ur claim. Can you give more cogent premises Sir for me to believe your claim? I am a neophyte here tho.

THE ROGUE DEITY

(Funlord)

I am your personal infestation,
The voice you hear in your head,
Regard me as your mind's domination,
A reason for the tears on your bed
*****
I possess the eyes that watch,
The entity that inflicts fear,
I am the one you sense approach,
A ghost that stands clear
*****
I'm the one who eternally sings,
Medleys of dark and light,
I'm the one in possession of Icarus wings,
The bloomer in the winters night
*****
I'm the one who caresses life in one hand,
While squeezing death in the other,
I'm the funlord of nairaland,
A witness to life's summers as they wither
*****
I'm the one who resides subliminally,
A dark strider through your fate,
I'm the one who laughs at you diabolically,
The holder of the keys to the pearly gates
*****
I'm the one who bid you your final farewell,
After the 'card deck' of your destiny fell,
The ringer of the grim reapers bell,
Regardless of where you dwell
*****
I spin stories like a spider's web alluring and inviting,i
Woven out of history and half truths
Lies so transparent they seem tissue paper
thin,
A catalogue of deception, is what lies deep within
*****
(Emaculat99)

I am the one that sings
A song full of praises of my ammunitions,
Alluring you to the sounds of my praises,
Till you fall for my ammunitions
*****
I am the insect behind your necks,
That makes you wallow in your cubicle,
Without you having a chance to flex,
As I inflict you till you fall on a rickle
*****
I am the man who walks on fire,
And takes hot charcoal as food,
Couriering the message to the world with my fire,
That I am fully back without remorse to the battlefield
*****
I am the little giant tormentor of your life,
That seeks to bring you down,
And make you rife,
In my venom facedown
*****
Of what difference does it make to me?
If all of you smell the scent of blood,
And drink from the omi°,
Purified with your friends' blood
*****
What difference is it?
If the moon turns red,
And the star stops glowing out of its wit,
The paths of remorseless and bravery will I tread
*****
(funlord)

Man, woman or child you all tend to always dither, About dogma, the afterlife, finances, sex, science and wonder,
Fear not, through my revelations you will have no further need to ponder
*****
Opaque and obtuse, quaint even, they beg to understand,
hook, line, and sinker, they continually swallow the bunkum fed by fellow man,
Forgetting that shallow streams and mighty oceans, hold the tales of how it all began!!!

***************************************************
°Omi is a Yoruba word which means water

Analysis:
This is a poem about an unknown human being encountered with a mischief making spirit, who reveals the secrets about the afterlife as well as its own purpose to the stranger.

angry

TIMES UP;

Surely, I felt the pangs of an old mans guilt,

My world surely now on its final tilt,

My parents weeping, my kids in pain,

My thoughts bloody, my fears reign,

I peek into the shadows, the reaper lurks,

He then whispered to me while hiding a smirk!

But when i made you part of my budget
You got stuck in my net

Well, it made it look a little bit disorganised. A stanza is usually made with a paragraph, so give back the lines the 'full stop' it deserves and use your 'enter' key to create the stanzas.
OK boss.

written:
In my own head

Edges of my sanity

Crawling on a land that is starked barren

I don't realise I am to walk this pain alone

My heart surge for you

But here love doesn't beget love

My love in the desert of your heart

where you can't love me back

Even though you've seen how stupid I stalk

In my own head

I have chosen silence

How I choke on your beauty

Causing each day a sigh of sobness

I am sick of you

Whenever my heart fails

Your essence wouldn't let me stay dead

How can you not know...

...I am your undead?

You av messed up my artery

You av messed up my vain

functioning the same, one along another electrocuting my heart

You av taken me to the waters

You av taken me to realms unknown

How can you not hate me?

You chose silence, measured in my own dose

Causing insanity to my mind

When I am reading into your stare

And see what isn't there

when everything is drying up

the waters, the air and my will to fight

When I endure through to the barren surface

Hopelessly stil on your love

But just before I pass out

Could have sworn...
Your tear hit my cheek
Your hands cuddle my neck
Your vision repaired my heart
Your mouth rhythm my beat
Your lips plastered my face

Thinking maybe it was just a fraction Too Late

Or Is it?

In my own head
I love the coherence in ur piece. I will also advice you to work on your abbreviation. You wrote 'av' instead of 'have' and also wrote 'stil' instead of 'still'. I will advice you to run through the poem all over again. I must confess, I love the concept in this poem.

Well, another great piece from you.

Keep writing like this and better and watch your fan base grow cuz you write good.

I observed that your personification and oxymoron usage in the poem I guess such usage were employed to evoke the true meaning and message to of the poem.

On a lighter note, what I find funny is your punctuation having its own paragraph. cheesy
Wow! thanks very much boss. The '.' was used to make the stanzas stand out. I will work harder on ur review boss.
