Politics › Under Jonathan,diezani Was Untouchable–sanusi by emamos(op): 1:42pm On May 05, 2016
The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi 11, said that nobody that had a confrontation with the former Minister Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, during the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, survived such an effrontery. This, Sanusi said, was because the former minister was one of the most powerful ministers under Jonathan.
He said, “I knew that taking on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporaton was taking on the most powerful minister in Jonathan’s government, and nobody who had touched Diezani had survived. It was not a question of what would happen, I just didn’t care at that time. I did not want to go down in history as having seen this and kept quiet.
“After the first round of reconciliation, there was $29bn that was explained. And how was that explained? Crude that was shipped by NNPC did not entirely belong to NNPC.”
He said some oil companies paid taxes and royalties in oil, and the NNPC sold this oil on behalf of FIRS, meaning FIRS got the money and not necessarily the federal government.
“No reasonable explanation for $20bn, $6bn was with NPDC that had not gotten to the federation account till date.”
Sanusi also said that Jonathan threatened him for writing a letter to inform Jonathan that $49bn was missing from the account of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
Sanusi, who served as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, said the former President said that he (Jonathan) would rather resign than for Sanusi to remain at the head of the apex bank.
The former CBN governor said when he wrote the letter to Jonathan in August 2013, the ex-President did nothing about it.
Sanusi said it was when former President Olusegun Obasanjo made reference to his letter four months later that Jonathan got angry and decided to take action.
He said unfortunately, Jonathan was more concerned with the fact that the letter leaked rather than sanction the people under whose watch the money went missing.
He said, “In the middle of all these, the President called me and said I should see him at 3pm. I turned up at 3pm and the entire place had been swept. There was no one apart from security services. I got to his office, it was just me and him. It was as if everybody had been asked to go.
“And so he says to me, he’s calling me because he is surprised that the letter I wrote to him got to Obasanjo, I said I’m surprised too. He said he was convinced that the letter went from the CBN to Obasanjo, and I had 24 hours to find who leaked the letter or sack somebody; the director who prepared the letter or my secretary and if I did not sack them, it was proof that I leaked the letter and therefore, I should resign.
“I said to him that I’m surprised that I’m being asked to resign for raising an alarm over missing funds and the minister in charge of the portfolio is not being asked to resign.
“From then I knew I had signed my equivalent of a death warrant. But I said I was not resigning. He got very angry and said whether you like it or not, you’re going to leave that office, I cannot continue to work with you, either you or I will leave government.”
Sanusi, however, revealed that former Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State had confessed to leaking the letter.
The former CBN governor traced the current economic crisis to the stealing and lack of accountability which characterised the Jonathan administration.
He said he had warned Jonathan that there would be inflation, unemployment and currency instability if leakages were jot plugged but sadly, nothing was done about it.

Crime › Iam Not Hiding From EFCC, Iam Not A Coward, Says Fani- Kayode by emamos(op): 10:24am On May 05, 2016
FORMER Spokesperson to the ex- President Goodluck Jonathan’s Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani- Kayode has denied some media reports that he was hiding from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, saying that was not true as he was not a coward.
*Fani
Fani- Kayode who described the report as totally absurd, said that he was not hiding as he has been in his Abuja residence in the last few weeks, adding that the EFCC never wrote him or called him on phone to explain his role in the Presidential Campaign funds of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP during the 2015 presidential elections.
According to him, others who were alleged to be involved in the campaign funds were invited in a civilised way, treated in a humane and decent manner, even as he wondered why he should be treated differently, criminalised in the newspapers and not even afforded what he termed, common courtesy of a formal invitation by the EFCC , adding that he was waiting for a formal letter from the anti- graft agency or their call as he has handed over those saying he was running to God.
In a statement titled, “My reaction to the allegation that I have gone underground and that I am hiding from the EFCC” and made available to Vanguard early this morning, the former Aviation Minister said, “I have just read some absurd media reports in which have qouted their sources in the EFCC as saying that I had gone underground and that I was hiding from them. This is false. I have not been invited by the EFCC by letter and neither have they phoned me or attempted to reach me in any other way. I have been in my Abuja home for the last few weeks and I am not hiding from anyone.
“I am not a coward and this attempt to further demonise and humiliate me by the EFCC will fail. If they have any questions for me why don’t they just write to me or call me, give me a date and I will be in their office. I have made my position clear on the issue of the Presidential campaign funds, I have written an essay about it in my various columns about two weeks ago and I have been waiting for the EFCC to reach me ever since then. They have invited others but they have not invited me. I do not believe that I have done anything wrong and this latest attempt to criminalise me and make me look like a fugitive from justice will fail.
“Others that were invited to the EFCC over this same campaign funds issue were sent letters of invitation and were reached. I appear to be the exception and now these hideous lies are being fed to the newspapers to make it look as if I am in hiding or that I am running from them just to sensationalise the whole issue.
“This is also to justify what the EFCC wish to do which is to arrest me in public, humiliate me or to storm my home and lock me up indefinitely. There is no need for all that drama and if it happens that way the Nigerian people will know why. I have no fear of the EFCC, I will respond to their invitation any day and anytime they send it to me and I will help them to clarify whatever issues they wish to raise in any way that I can.

Politics › Another Attack Looms In Benue As Fulani Herdsmen Declare 80 Cows Missing, Finger by emamos(op): 10:45am On May 04, 2016
There are fears that Agatu may soon come under serious attack from suspected Fulani herdsmen following a recent media speculation that over 50 cows belonging to the cattle breeders were reportedly killed by Agatu people while trying to cross to Nasarawa State last weekend.
DAILY POST gathered that there is currently palpable tension in the land within the past few days when the report surfaced in the media as the irate herdsmen have threatened to attack the community for reportedly killing their cattle.
A resident of Ogwule in Agatu told our reporter that many residents have deserted the community for the fear of being attacked by the cattle breeders-turned-gunmen.
Asked if over 50 cows were truly killed as widely reported in the media, the resident, who gave his name as Samson described the report as untrue and misleading.
According to him, not even a single cow was killed by the Agatu people, stressing that it was an avenue they want to use in attacking the ravaged community.
“That is a lie. A big lie, untrue and misleading. Nobody killed any cow belonging to Fulani people. These people are going about claiming in the media that we killed 80 of their cattle in Agatu, but I can tell you that it is a big lie. They have threatened to attack our people, in fact, as we speak, many persons have fled their homes for the fear of being attacked by these marauders,” Samson said.
He called on the relevant security agents to beef up security in the volatile area.

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, on Tuesday, warned marauding herdsmen that have sent many Nigerians to their untimely graves in parts of the country to steer clear of his state or otherwise risk a greater danger for their cattle.
He said failure on their part to heed the warning would lead to the people of the state poisoning the source of water by the herdsmen for the cattle.
Fayose stated this on Tuesday, while speaking on the topic: “Journalism and Politics; two sides of a coin,” at the World Press Freedom Day organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, held at the Dapo Aderogba hall, Iyaganku, Ibadan.
Fayose said the time had come for Nigerians to defend themselves in the face of unwarranted attacks and killings by suspected herdsmen across the country.
Citing the carnage carried out by them in Benue and Enugu states, the governor said Boko Haram appeared to have changed its identity to herdsmen, unleashing terror on innocent citizens of the country,
He said he had instructed his people to poison water with a particular brand of chemical used against fungal attacks in the event of any herdsmen attack in Ekiti.
“It seems Boko Haram has changed identity to herdsmen now. You as journalists must speak out, the killings are under reported. Is it about the mass burial in Kaduna State, the Agatu saga or the recent killing which happened on Monday? Ask questions,” he said.
On his criticism of President Muhammed Buhari, Fayose said he had nothing against the personality of the president, but that the world democracy did not live on old leaders again.
Fayose said it was wrong for the president to believe he could use the panacea he adopted to tackle national problems over 30 years ago as head of state to solve current national challenges.
“President Buhari is too old to rule this country and that is why there is problem in this country now. He is like my grandfather. Nigeria should not produce any president that is over 60 years.
“World democracy don’t parade octogenarians again. Young people should rise up to challenge the older generation. Maybe that is why there is a law that a pilot should not fly an aircraft after 65 years of age,” he said.
Fayose advised journalists in the country to hold politicians accountable for their deeds and character while in office, in order to save the country from going down.
“You are the last hope of common man. When journalists support looters, there is confusion of vision. Journalists should shy away from it. Bad politicians should be brought to justice. Don’t write about issues you don’t know. Don’t rely on what a politician told you of his supposed enemy and don’t inherit his enemies. Journalists must help bring corrupt politicians to justice.
“When politicians are going wrong, let them feel the heat first from you. Most politicians are using journalists in Nigeria for their dirty jobs and they are supporting wicked politicians. Journalists in Nigeria always shy away from the truth because they are self-centred and greedy. As a journalist, you need to discharge your duty without fear or favour.

Career › We Earn More Than Bank Workers –FCT Cab Drivers by emamos(op): 7:13am On May 04, 2016
…I made N5,000 daily, one of them says
To many, the taxi driver is just another Nigerian among the nation’s overflowing population of struggling citizens caught in the endless race to stay afloat, especially in these trying days of economic recession. Like the majority of his fellow countrymen and women who constitute the membership of the commoners club, he is presumed to be on the wheels on most days, putting in so much and earning so little in return.
But in Abuja, the nation’s capital, many of them seem not comfortable with the notion that they are just a little better than society’s very poor. Many of them who were interviewed byAbuja Metroconfessed that they are not at the rung of the financial ladder as many think.
As our investigation revealed, not few taxi drivers in Abuja are landlords, even though there are those who waste their earnings on drinks, parties and women. Some of them boasted that they make more money than what a banker earns monthly even though they work at their own pace and can afford to take a day off, “unlike office workers who can do so only with their boss’ permission.”
Checks also revealed that some taxi drivers in the capital city are holders of either NCE or university degrees, but chose to become self-employed after failed efforts to secure non-existent white collar jobs.
Sharing his experience as a cab driver in Abuja, Mr Joseph Adeni, a graduate, began by stating what it takes to join the trade.
“If you want to be a taxi driver here, there are legal ways to go about it. First, you register with any of the various unions because this is one of the rules and regulations for taxi drivers in Abuja. You must register with them and become a member. The different colours, which are green and yellow, indicate the different taxi drivers unions in Abuja.
“Each day, I make at least N5,000. It all depends on how hard you work. I am married with children and I maintain my family from the proceeds. The car I use for taxi, is mine; so I do not make delivery to anybody”, he said.
Adeni said he enjoys his job even though he would have preferred a pensionable employment.
“As an educated person, one needs to have a pensionable job because old ages, which is inevitable, sets in, it affects the job of a taxi driver”, he reasoned.
Also, he talked about “one -chance” robbers who operate in cabs in the city, saying that the activities of the criminals are adversely affecting the genuine cab operators. “This is because a passenger could stop you and suddenly refuse to enter your car, maybe because of your looks. Even cars that are registered and painted in taxi colours indulge in ‘one chance’ activities. We hope that government would take the issue of monitoring registered cars seriously”, Adeni said.
On the notion that taxi drivers are drunks and womanizers, Adeni stated that it all depends on the individual, because he neither womanizes nor drinks.
Another cab driver, Mr Ademola, said he was married with children who are all in school, adding that he is happy with his job because he makes a lot of money to take care of his nuclear and extended families. Like Adeni, he assured that he had no reason to regret being a cab driver in Abuja.
Their colleague in the business, Muhammad Umar, who operates from Jabi park branch, toldAbuja Metrothat he was married with five children and they are in school. He stated that he pays their school fees conveniently from his earnings as taxi driver.
However, he complained that business has been slow lately due to the lingering fuel scarcity, and appealed to the government to act swiftly, “because Nigerians are suffering, spending many hours at the filling stations.”
For Mr Mustapha Muhammad, another taxi driver, things are not yet shaping up because he operates the cab business for someone and makes daily payment to the owner of the car. Married, but yet to have children, his present challenge is the fuel scarcity because he spends hours in long queues to get fuel and the situation takes its toll on his earnings. He explained that, to be able to make reasonable money for him and the owner of the car, he has to be on the road very early.

Politics › Buhari Returns Budget For The 3rd Time, Demands Final Copy by emamos(op): 7:28pm On May 03, 2016
FOR the third time the 2016 appropriation bill has been returned as President Muhammadu Buhari was said to have picked faults in the re-worked budget and returned it to the National Assembly for further legislative work.
It was reliably gathered that the re-worked budget was sent to the president at about 1: 15am on Tuesday but was returned to the National Assembly at about 12.00 noon Tuesday.
It was also gathered that principal officers and members of the review committee from both legislative chambers met at about 3.20pm till about 5.30pm in the Senate wing to reconsider the observations made by the president on the budget.
Vanguard’s attempts to get some of the principal officers and the review committee members to confirm or deny the budget return story proved abortive as some of them switched off their phones while those whose phones were active ignored calls and refused to respond to SMS.
A source close to the committee confirmed that the budget was actually submitted to the president but he refused to touch it due to some issues he was not comfortable with.
He said “the budget got to the State House at about 1.10am and Mr. President went through it early this morning and still had some issues with some of the figures. I can not tell you exactly what it was but I think the insertions made by the lawmakers were not significantly altered.
“You know the lawmakers had moved some allocations for key projects that are dear to the president to other areas especially to their constituency projects. Of course, they have changed some but I believe Mr. President is not satisfied with the reconciliation they made. I think this is one of the reasons why it was returned”. .
He also disclosed that the president would assent to the budget tomorrow (Wednesday) should the lawmakers make all the corrections and transmit the document to him tonight.
“I can assure you, Mr. President is desirous to sign the budget because he is aware and has acknowledged that Nigerians are going through hardship. He is also concerned so if the budget is cleaned up this night and sent to him, he will sign it as soon as possible. That I know very well”.

Politics › Deal With Fulani Herdsmen Attackers - Buhari Orders Security Agencies by emamos(op): 2:54pm On May 03, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari has restated his administration’s resolve to deal decisively and expeditiously with reported cases of continued attacks on communities across the country by armed herdsmen.

The president was speaking on Monday night at a meeting with members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) held in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

A statement issued on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said that President Buhari confirmed that heads of national security agencies had been ordered to take all necessary action to apprehend and expose those behind the heinous attacks.

“We are determined to secure all Nigerians and I have told the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies, in very strong terms, to deal decisively with the attackers,’’ he said.

President Buhari expressed his personal condolences to the Catholic Bishop of Enugu, the people of Ukpabi Nimbo and all other communities that had suffered fatalities and other losses from the recent attacks.
Speaking on other national issues, the statement quoted the President as assuring the Bishops that he was acting with deliberation and moving methodically to implement his Change Agenda for the good of the country.

“We need to rebuild our institutions methodically, we need to change the way we do things.
“In the last 10 years, crude oil sold for more that $100 per barrel, but Nigeria did not save.
“That is why we have found ourselves where we are today,’’ President Buhari told the Catholic Bishops, led by Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, the Archbishop of Jos.
The President assured them that his administration was working very hard to fulfill all the promises it had made to Nigerians.

According to him, his greatest motivating factor now is the desire to bring positive change to Nigeria.
On behalf of the bishops, Kaigama expressed the solidarity of the CBCN with the President.
“We are willing to collaborate with you and with your administration, in which we see hope for a greater Nigeria,’’ he said.
The bishops pledged continued prayers for Nigeria and the government, expressing their conviction that “current hardships are temporary, and Nigeria will soon overcome its present difficulties’’.

Crime › Vacate South-east Or Face Dire Consequences – Igbo Youths To Fulani Herdsmen by emamos(op): 7:07am On Apr 30, 2016
Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) yesterday raised the alarm that fleeing Boko Haram members chased out of the Northeast zone of the country by the Nigerian Army have infiltrated various parts of the Southeast, disguising as Fulani herdsmen, to rape, maim and decimate Ndigbo, preparatory to their sole agenda of Islamizing Southern Nigeria.
IPOB which said the agenda of the Boko Haram members would fail in the Southeast, advocated formation of special vigilante groups across Igbo land to forestall recurrence of the most horrific attack by the group at Uzo-Uwani, Enugu state, in the early hours of Monday this week.
The call for vigilance came on a day the Igbo youths under the aegis of Ohanaeze Youth Council issued a four-day ultimatum to all violent herdsmen in the Southeast to vacate the zone while another group operating under the name of Igbo Youths Forum also, yesterday, vowed to return fire for fire any other time the militants dare attack any Igbo community.
The Ohanaeze Youth Council, in a statement, warned that “ any violent herdsman who fails to quit Southeast soil on or before Monday next week will have himself to blame”.
The statement was however silent on how the group would identify the violent herdsmen in the zone.
But the intention of the ultimatum by the youth group appears to offend Section 41 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The section provides: “Every citizen of Nigeria is entitled to move freely throughout Nigeria and to reside in any part thereof and no citizen shall be expelled from Nigeria or refused entry thereby or exit therefrom.”
The group however also warned Igbo members of the National Assembly not to support the grazing bill flying around the legislative house.
This is aside the threat that the Ndigbo are planning to boycott consumption of beef to run the business of the Fulani herdsmen aground in the Southeast.
But the Chairman of Nkwo-Nnewi Butchers Asociation, Chief Amobi Nnoruka is urging that instead of considering the option of shunning beef, the better alternative would be for the security agents to wake up to their responsibilities.

Car Talk › 10 Safety Tips When Driving In The Rain by emamos(op): 9:04pm On Apr 29, 2016
The Federal Road Safety Corps has reminded all motorists and other road users to be cautious on the roads as the rainy season has set in.
This is to ensure sanity on the highways during the season even as the Corps also harps on the need for strict compliance with traffic rules and regulations among road users especially during this period.
According to the FRSC’s Public Education Officer, Corps Commander Imoh Etuk, the corps was concerned over the attitude of many drivers.
However, here are a few tips to drive safely during this period according towikiHow;
1.Keep both hands on the steering wheel at all times
Keep all distractions, such as cell phones or even the radio, off and away from you. While focus to your front do Take a Look in Back View Mirror as well Right Hand side & Left Hand side so that you get an 360 degree over view what is happening around any mud slide or falling tree, electric pole, hanging electrical wires , or in coming hazard etc
2.Turn on your headlights.
This will make it easier for you to see what is in front of you; thus, preventing any accidents
.
3. Keep a minimum of a good five car length from the car in front of you.
You never know what other drivers are going to do or what could happen to you! If that feels too close or too far a rule of thumb is 1 second of following distance per 10 mph (16 km/h). That holds true especially in bad weather.
4. Drive at or below the speed limit.
To the extent that you are comfortable with, and can see far enough in front of you to appropriately make driving decisions.
5.Be aware that the maximum speed at which you can drive is DIRECTLY related to your tires.
Be sure to know the condition of your tyres. Radial tires have better traction than the old bias ply polyester tires, but even they lose their ability to grip wet pavement and channel water out as the tread wears out.
6.Be aware of hydroplaning.
This is where your vehicle travels on top of the water and has NO or very little contact with the ground. Your traction is reduced significantly. To safely get out of a hydroplaning situation let off the gas and steer straight or slightly in the direction you must go. Do not make sudden motions and remain calm.
7.Avoid flooded roads.
Never drive through standing or flowing water in a road way unless you have no choice or you are able to follow someone else to judge the depth of the water. Flooding the engine of your car can cause the engine to stall, and deep water can actually float your car and take it off the roadway.
8.Turn on the defroster if the windshield begins to fog.
In hot, muggy weather, air conditioned air (which cannot contain as much moisture) will usually clear the inside of the windshield faster than non air conditioned.
9. Be aware that brakes can be affected by water.
Wet drum type brakes are especially prone to decreased stopping power after driving through deep water.
10. Watch for splashing from potholes and pools of water that accumulate at clogged storm drain pipes and low areas of the pavement.
Highways also develop “ruts” where the heaviest traffic tracks, and you may be able to position your vehicle while remaining in your lane to avoid these.

Politics › Stop Buying Fulani Herdsmen’s Cows, S/E Youths Warn Igbo by emamos(op): 3:50pm On Apr 29, 2016
ENUGU – The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra,MASSOB,Friday, revealed that last Monday’s slaughter of 46 Ukpabi,Nimbo in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State was a grand plan,by the Islamic Arewa Army,ISAA,to conquer and actualize the Islamic, political, economical, social command of Othman Dan Fodio, Ahmadu Bello (Sarduana of Sokoto) using the minority North (Middle Belt) to fight against the Christian South.
MASSOB also charged Ndigbo, to hold their governors responsible for any invasion of Igboland by foreigners.
This came on a day the Youth wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, south-east geopolitical zone chapter, tasked all Igbos to stop buying cow from the Fulani herdsmen as a source of meat, adding that Ndigbo should rise to the occasion and patronize other sources of meat to frustrate their business.
Rising from an emergency meeting of principal officials of MASSOB executives in Okwe, MASSOB headquarters, Leader, Uchenna Madu in communique made available to Saturday Vanguard which read in part:”President Muhammad Buhari’s sudden, pressurized u-turn and presidential order against Fulani’s herdsmen is a complete political jamboree which can never hold any water. It is a hypocritical exhibition meant to deceive the Igbo Christians in general.
“More coordinated military camouflaged pogroms is coming, it shall continue to be disguised as Fulani’s herdsmen but the real men behind these pogroms are Islamic Arewa Army,ISAA, established to conquer, actualize the Islamic, political, economical, social command of Othman Dan Fodio, Ahmadu Bello (Sarduana of Sokoto) using the minority North (Middle Belt) to fight against the Christian South.

The Nigeria Governors Forum on Thursday asked the Federal Government to
review the revenue sharing formula.
The governors insisted that what comes to them should be increased,
stressing that states were the custodians of the natural resources in
Nigeria.
The Chairman of the governors’ forum, Mr Abdullaziz Yari, disclosed this
to State House correspondents after their meeting with President Muhammadu
Buhari on the way out of the economic crunch the states were facing.
Other demands include 18 months moratorium from the Federal Government on
the bail out loans and the remitting of what they called ‘hanging funds’
owed them by the Federal Government after Nigeria’s exit from the Paris
Club in 2005.
They lamented that a situation where some of them could not pay salaries
of workers in their states was so embarrassing.
Beyond the bailout fund, the governors have listed a programme for the
Federal Government to restructure the states’ economy in the short, medium
and long terms.
According to Governor Yari of Zamfara State, President Buhari was said to
have graciously accepted their demands.
He added that the President asked that a committee comprising the Vice
President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, and the Minister of Power,
Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, be set up to look into all the
matters.
