Politics › Alleged N1trn Rail Contracts Scam: Reps Invite Amaechi, NRC MD, Others by emamos(op): 7:06am On Feb 01, 2016 |
MEMBERS of the adhoc committee of the House of Representatives on failed rail contracts have summoned the Minister of Transport, Mr Rotimi Amaechi; Managing Director of Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, Seyi Sijuwade; former Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr Mohammed Bello Haliru; and former Minister of Transport, Idris Umar, to explain their roles in the alleged N1 trillion rail contracts scam. Amaechi-screening The adhoc committee is headed by Ehoizuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, PDP, Ikpoba/Oha Federal Constituency. They are expected to appear before the committee tomorrow during the investigative hearing. Chairman of the adhoc committee, Agbonayinma, confirmed that all the stakeholders had been duly informed and were expected to show up unfailingly tomorrow. Asked why the Minister of Transport was invited, despite the fact that he is barely three months old in office, Agbonayinma said: “The Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, was also invited to tell us all he knows, though he just assumed office but you know government is a continuum. “This 8th House is 100 per cent in support of President Muhammadu Buhari’s crusade against any form of corruption. “We are not out to witch-hunt anybody but anyone found wanting in the course of this investigative hearing will be adequately exposed although as you are aware, not until it is proven by a competent court that such persons are guilty you can’t say they are guilty.” It would be recalled that during the last investigative hearing on December 10, former chairman of the NRC board, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, had denied that during his tenure, no contract was awarded by the board he chaired. Tukur, a former chairman of PDP, had told the adhoc committee that the Procurement Act excluded the NRC Board from participating in the award of railway contracts. “The Board which I chaired, was never involved in any contract award and was never told or invited to participate in issues of contract award of financial disbursement,” he said. He said throughout his stay as the Board Chairman of the NRC, no issue of contract award of any amount or tune was discussed or awarded by the Board. Another Chairman of the board, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, also a former chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, told the adhoc committee that he was not privileged to appoint any consultant or award contracts for the railway projects. According to Baraje, all the paraphernalia and indices that would assist him carry out his work were all gone. “We only played the role of inspection because the procurement act excluded the board from participating in any contract,’’ he added. He expressed worry that the country’s railway transportation system had suffered neglect, in spite of playing critical role in the development of the economy. Baraje said more attention should be given to the 25-year railway modernisation plan to boost transportation in the country. Also speaking at the hearing Senator Ladan Shuni, another former Board Chairman of the NRC, wondered the essence of inaugurating a board that lacked the capacity to oversee the award of contracts. Politics › Jonathan Gave Fayose $37m To Defeat Fayemi – PDP Secretary by emamos(op): 6:55am On Feb 01, 2016 |
Embattled Secretary of the Ekiti state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party Dr. Temitope Aluko, has alleged that former President Goodluck Jonathan gave Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, $37m cash to prosecute the June 21, 2014, governorship election in the state. Aluko said the money was effectively used to defeat the then Governor of the State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who was the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress. He spoke with reporters in Abuja on Sunday. Aluko, who said he was part of the team that prosecuted the election and also added that he was the chairman of the Intelligence, security committee for the campaign. Beside, he said he handled the waiver Fayose got from the PDP at the national level to enable him qualify to take part in the governorship primary. To further buttress important roles he played in the emergence of Fayose, Aluko also said he delivered the congresses that produced Fayose and was also the governor’s principal witness at the Election Petition Tribunal. He said Jonathan initially gave Fayose $2m in March 2014 for the primary election and that this money was collected at the NNPC Towers, Abuja. Aluko said, “It was about $35m dollars which is about N4.7bn he gave us for the real election and for the primaries, he released 2 million dollars to Fayose. “I have details for all I am saying and I was present when they brought the money and it was Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro that brought the money, the 35 million dollars which he delivered to Fayose at Spotless Hotel. “I can name eight people that were there. We were all there because he said he will want us to take delivery so that there will be transparency and accountability lalasticlala, obinoscopy http://pointblanknews.com/pbn/exclusive/jonathan-gave-fayose-37m-to-defeat-fayemi-pdp-secretary/. |

Politics › Anti-corruption War: Judiciary Is My Main Headache, Says Buhari by emamos(op): 6:05pm On Jan 31, 2016 |
President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday said as far his administration’s ongoing anti-corruption fight is concerned, the nation’s judiciary remains his major headache. He said the fight against corruption in Nigeria could only be effectively tackled with the strong support of the judiciary. According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President spoke in Addis Ababa at a town hall meeting he had with Nigerians living in Ethiopia. He said far-reaching reforms of the judiciary remained a key priority for the present administration. Buhari said his travails in courts up to the level of the Supreme Court in his three previous attempts at becoming the President were clear indications that the judiciary needs urgent reforms. The President said, “On the fight against corruption vis-à-vis the judiciary, Nigerians will be right to say that is my main headache for now. “If you reflect on what I went through for 12 years when I wanted to be the President, I attempted three times and on the fourth attempt through God and the use of technology, it was possible for Nigerians to elect an APC candidate as President. “In my first attempt in 2003, I ended up at the Supreme Court and for 13 months I was in court. The second attempt in 2007, I was in court close to 20 months and in 2011, my third attempt, I was also in court for nine months. “All these cases went up to the Supreme Court until the fourth time in 2015, when God agreed that I will be President of Nigeria.” The President however assured members of the Nigerian community that with the support of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, he would continue to do his best to improve the nation’s judicial administration system http://www.punchng.com/anti-corruption-war-judiciary-main-headache-says-buhari/. |

[s] GeneralBiati: one would wonder why,the nigerian army are continiously gettingg rid of the shiite population in zaria and northern nigeria. the reason is that, buhari is looking for funds and money to finance his budget, under the disguise of northern governors forum meeting with executives of the islamic development bank [IDB],in jebbah, saudi arabia and part of the idb conditions to loan billions of dollars to the government through northern governors forum, and part of their conditions to loan money to the government is to eliminate the shiites,so those that are think of early end to the shiite massarce should wake up,until the shiite move to defend and arm themselves,it wont stop. why are they destroying the shiite shrines? the shiite properties? their mortuaries? their hospitals, schools, appartments? brute force is countered by a counter brute force. general biati [/s] |

Politics › I'm Grateful To Learn From #kenyatta Because He's My Senior —president #buhari by emamos(op): 5:38pm On Jan 30, 2016 |
President Muhammadu Buhari was on a state visit to Kenya, on Wednesday, where he joined his host, Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta, at a memorial service in honour of Kenyan soldiers who were killed by Al-Shabaab in Somalia recently. Delivering his speech at the event, President Buhari said that peace-loving nations of the world must now come together and deal with the threat posed to global security by terrorism with greater zeal and cohesion. He also expressed gratitute to Kenyatta for inviting him and his team to Kenya, saying "I am grateful to learn from President Kenyatta because he is my senior in his position." Read full text of President Buhari's speech I thank President Uhuru Kenyatta and his team, first for inviting me and some of my Cabinet Ministers to come to Kenya. We have gone over the initiatives taken from 2003 to last year and I assure you that the MoUs signed then and the other agreements have rapidly made progress. We congratulate Kenya for discovering oil and gas – an area of great economic potential which Nigeria had the benefit of exploiting for over 50 years. We believe with indigenous technology, trained people from Nigeria will be able to help. In other areas of the economy, we are going to benefit a lot from agriculture in Kenya. That is why the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development is part of my team here. On the area of security, Nigeria has been very lucky in the sense that our immediate neighbours in the Lake Chad Basin Commission, that is Chad, Niger and Cameroon, are helping Nigeria to fight Boko Haram. We have been making progress and I believe Kenya has been making progress also with its neighbour Somalia. On the continental side at the African Union level, we will discuss both security and economy this week in Ethiopia and try to build on the progress that has been made. And globally, since terrorism does not respect borders, does not respect cultures, does not respect ethnicity, it has become a global affair. So we have to do our best, in spite of the unfortunate demand it is making on the lean resources, to spend on security rather than social services like education, healthcare, water and infrastructure. A lot of money has to be spent on defence because unless we secure the country, we cannot manage it. I am grateful to learn from President Kenyatta because he is my senior in his position. I just became the President of my country recently. In terms of dealing with terrorists in the neighbouring Somalia, for the last 25 years you have been dealing with that problem. Boko Haram started in in early 90s but between 2009 and now, about 10,000 people have lost their lives not to mention the millions that have been displaced. So in our meeting, we have exhaustively discussed security, the economy and even touched on corruption and how it destroys the system and morale of the nation state. I thank you very much Mr. President for this invitation. I assure you that we will rapidly make progress from now onwards on the MoUs and agreements already entered especially on trade and security. Thank you very much lalasticlala, obinoscopy http://www.tribuneonlineng.com/im-grateful-to-learn-from-kenyatta-because-hes-my-senior-%E2%80%94president-buhari |

Crime › Charles Okah On ‘hunger Strike’, Threatens N5 Billion Suit by emamos(op): 5:16pm On Jan 29, 2016 |
One of the suspects in the 2010 Independence Day bomb blasts in Abuja, Charles Okah, has embarked on a hunger strike to protest alleged harassment by officials of the Kuje Prison. Apart from embarking on hunger strike, Mr. Okah, who has been in Kuje Prison since 2010, has threatened to file a suit demanding N5 billion damages from the Federal Government. The threat is contained in a letter written by his counsel, Timi Okponipere, dated January 21, and addressed to the Minister of Interior, Abdulraman Dambazau. The legal practitioner alleged that the officer in charge of the Kuje Prison, Musa Tanko, has persistently harassed and intimidated his client. “At the time of writing this letter, our client is as emaciated as a bean pole on account of the hunger strike he has embarked upon, to draw global attention to his plight,” the lawyer wrote. “Literarily and figuratively speaking, our client is virtually a dead man. If our client dies in prison custody, the entire world, particularly the Ijaw nation and the Niger Delta where our client hails from, shall rise in unison against President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, even as we concede the fact that, our client’s ordeal began during the tenure of former President Goodluck Jonathan, a fellow Ijaw.” Mr. Okponipere said some prison officials on January 6, at about 7am, gained entry into Mr. Okah’s cell and carted away his books, journals and manuscripts. He said the invasion of his client’s cell was based on the orders of the head of the Kuje Prison, Musa Tanko. According to him, one of the seized manuscripts contained his prison memoirs, consisting of writings, drawings and sketches of his prison journey. However, he said another manuscript titled “Research Study: Security Lapses and Vice in Kuje Prison,” carried detailed report exposing security lapses, illicit sex, indiscipline, corruption and other vices thriving such as prison warders’ involvement in drug trafficking. “Our client was to submit the report to the honourable minister of interior, the national security adviser, NSA, as well as the director general of the State Security Service, SSS, before the unfortunate incident occurred,” the lawyer wrote. “Specifically, on January 10, when the honourable minister of interior visited the prison, in company of the director general, State Security Service, SSS, our client approached the minister and conveyed his intention to forward a draft copy of the research study to his (minister) office for necessary action. “Secondly Sir, following our client’s bold initiative to approach the minister of interior during his visit to the prison, our client has been kept in solitary confinement within the Prison Service since January 10, 2016 by Mr. Tanko and his officers, ostensibly as a punitive, vindictive and malicious measure, to force our client to back down from his avowed determination to expose the ongoing rot in the prison.” http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/197637-charles-okah-hunger-strike-threatens-n5-billion-suit.html |
