After ruling his country for 22 years, President Yahya Jammeh of Gambia suffered a shocking defeat in the Presidential election. He has conceded defeat to opposition leader Adama Barrow, the chairman of the electoral commission said on Friday, AFP reports.

“It’s really unique that someone who has been ruling this country for so long has accepted defeat,” Alieu Momar Njie Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission told reporters.

This comes after the opposition candidate Adama Barrow took a massive lead after almost 75 per cent of votes had been counted in Gambian presidential voting, threatening President Yahya Jammeh’s 22-year-rule, the electoral commission said on Friday.

Mr. Barrow, who has the support of seven political parties, had won 22 out of 53 constituencies or 138,148 votes in Thursday’s presidential polls.

According to the commission, incumbent Jammeh won 14 out of 53 constituencies or 126,587 votes.

A plane carrying many Brazilian footballers crashed in Colombia, virtually wiping out the entire Brazilian football team, and causing a lot sorrows and tears to flow.

It has been revealed that the plane was running out of fuel, had no electrical power, and was preparing for an emergency landing, according to the pilot's final words.

The disaster on Monday night killed 71 people and sent shockwaves around the football world.

According to Reuters, in Medellin and Chapeco, fans held homage to the team.

Dressed in white and chanting "We will never forget, this cup goes to heaven" the Atletico Nacional stadium in Medellin erupted in cheers, while others cried and white doves flew overhead. The team had been due to play Chapecoense in the regional final.



Atletico wants the trophy to be given to Chapecoense in honour of the dead.

"As far as we are concerned," the team said, "Chapecoense will for ever be the champions of the Copa Sudamericana Cup 2016."

Tens of thousands of fans packed the Capeco's stadium for a second night.

When a video of Colombian supporters singing a club anthem was broadcast on a giant screen, the stadium exploded in song.

A 35-year-old man has been convicted and sentenced to death by hanging for stealing N200 by an Osun State High Court on Thursday.

The man identified as Kayode Idowu was arraigned by the police alongside his accomplice, Femi Adebowale, before the court on three counts of conspiracy, murder and armed robbery.

According to the police prosecutor, Idowu was found guilty by Justice Kudirat Akano to have broken into the apartments of Rachel Ogbomoniyi and Florence Ajayi at about 1am on August 3, 2009, and found N200 from Aina’s room.

The duo of Idowu and Adebowale were said to have stolen the N200 and headed to Ajayi’s apartment and eventually killed her.

The Principal State Counsel, Mr. Moses Faremi, told the court that the convict and the second accused, who died in the course of trial, forcefully entered the apartments of the victims in the night and they asked for the money.

He stated that the deceased told them she did not have money, adding that after they left the deceased, she was later found in a pool of blood.

The counsel said the offences were contrary to sections (1) (2) (9)and 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 34, Volume 2, Law of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

The principal witness, who was also the second victim of the attack, had told the court during the trial that she was asked to come and identify the two men at the police station and she was able to point them out.

The witness had said, “I was invited to the police station to identify who robbed me and killed Florence Ajayi. Out of the eight people – men of same height on – identified Kayode and Femi because they were the ones that robbed me on the day of the incident and killed the deceased. Nobody showed me anybody to identify.”

The counsel for the convicts, Sade Ipede, of the Legal Aid Council, had pleaded with the judge to temper justice with mercy.

The judge said the prosecuting counsel had proved his case beyond reasonable doubt.

She said, “The evidence brought to the court is so strong and credible. The action of the accused was intentional.

“The accused is found guilty of the charges against him. He should be hanged by the neck for conspiracy; hanged by the neck for murder and hanged by the neck for armed robbery.”

A Japanese man has become an internet sensation after he showed off his adopted 6ft 8in, 46kg pet Alligator.

According to Dailymail, Nobumitsu Murabayashi, 65, is regularly seen strolling down the roads of Kure City in Hiroshima, Japan with his unlikely pet. The gentle giant lives with Mr Murabayashi and his wife where he roams freely in their home.

Amazingly, he purchased the alligator-like animal as a baby 34 years ago from an exotic animal festival.

He was given permission from the city's government to keep the unusual pet, he imaginatively calls Caiman, at home.

He said: 'I never thought he would grow this big. It has been 34 years since I got him. I try to communicate with him through actions such as brushing his teeth, etc.'

Mr Murabayashi admits his long suffering wife isn't necessarily a big fan of Caiman.

He said: 'Every day my wife is more fed up with me. So I spend my days with Caiman instead.'

His bizarre friendship - which includes petting, brushing its teeth and walking him on a lead - led to numerous local TV appearances that made him a minor celebrity.

His unusual friendship with the animal has attracted attention from people as they cannot fathom how he came about it. Most people know alligators to be dangerous, but Murabayashi seems so much at home with his giant alligator.

According to a report by SA newspaper Sowetanlive, 18 year old Boitumelo Dlamini was taken by four girls into a car, driven to a bush where they poured petrol on her and burnt her to death. One of the girls is the ex-girlfriend of the boy she's dating. Her charred body was found in the bush in Klipgat, North West, on Thursday June 25th.
Boitumelo's boyfriend's ex-girlfriend and three of her friends have been arrested for the crime and are facing murder charges and kidnapping.
Boitumelo , 18, a Grade 12 pupil at Elepsa Secondary School, became romantically involved with Tokelo Makalepho, 24, from her village, six months ago.
Boitumelo's sister, Nono Dlamini, 26, alleged Makalepho's former girlfriend was jealous and could not stand that Makalepho was dating Boitumelo.
"She constantly intimidated my sister and threatened her," said Nono, speaking on behalf of her family. My sister died because she was beautiful and doing matric."Nono said Boitumelo's friends said that on Thursday they saw her get into a car after school.
They did not recognise the vehicle.
"We got worried when she did not return home. Later we received a call to say she was dead. We understand that they took her into the car, drove with her to a bush in Klipgat and then poured petrol on her and burned her." Nono said
Tumi, as she was affectionately called by her family, had dreams of being a crime investigator.
She was a dedicated pupil whose subjects included history, life orientation, life sciences, English and Afrikaans.
"She was a loving person, she did not want people to get hurt," her sister said. "She always smiled and was very kind."According to Makalepho, his ex told him she will only accept their break-up if he promised to date ugly women who already have children. She also allegedly told him the new woman must not have a matric certificate.
"She was angry that I dumped her with a baby," Makalepho said yesterday. "I never thought she can do this, I'm traumatised."Makalepho and his ex have a 19-month-old daughter.
"I don't feel that my daughter is safe with her anymore. I dumped her because she cheated on me, she cannot blame me for her failures," he said.North West police spokesman Captain Paul Ramaloko said four people were arrested.
They will appear in the Brits Magistrate's Court today.

The authorities of the Delta State University, Abraka on Saturday banned the wearing of miniskirts and insisted there must be a reduction of fellowship centres in the three University campuses.

According to the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Vincent Peretemode, the three campuses in question have over 80 fellowships which must now be reduced to four. He said the fellowships which would hence forth be allowed in the campuses will be the Catholic, Anglican, Joint Christian Campus Fellowship and Our Saviours Chapel.

He also said wearing of miniskirts in any of the campuses has been banned henceforth. So DELSU students take note.
