Please criticisms are welcomed and needed. Confused? I can explain the point of the poem
Literature / Chief, The Honourable Thief: A Poem by emeka94(m): 8:35pm On May 09, 2015
Honourable chief
Honourable thief;
The difference is clear
But we do not care.
Our brass band is ready
And our wrappers are tidy.
We shall tie it on our waist,
Making sure the side with the honourable's face shows clearly,
As we gyrate around the school field.

The women group have learnt a new dance,
Which Akwugo, with the whistle voice and waist without bones, shall lead.
The men have bought new palm wine horns
And our youths are ready with their placards and knifes sheathed in its animal leather pouch.
Our son, the Honourable chief, is coming from Abuja
And we shall welcome him in grand style.

Last we saw of him was three years ago;
When he cam with a trailer full of garri and foreign rice,
A container of hollandice materials
And a tanker of palm wine.
Money flowed and flowed
And we were all happy
And less less hungry for six months after.
We voted for him, the entire village did.
But the rice finished in no time,
My hollandis wrapper have since torn in multiple places
And the honourable is somewhere in Abuja.

"Mama George, Mama Agnes," I called on my friends.
"Eeeh ya oooh," they answered
"Hurry up with your wrappers. I can hear the sound of the Honourable's convoy. We mustn't miss his entrance," I shouted.
"Eziokwu. Oya oya, let's go," mama Agnes replied excitedly.
We hurried out into the main street
Towards the primary school.
The maracas tied on our feet, for dancing, making clanging noises like the chain of a prisoner,
As we hurried to dance for the Honourable chief,
Whom we know is a Honourable thief;
But we shall thumb print for him.
He is our son.
Nairaland / General / OPINION: Why Birthdays Ought To Be Celebrated by emeka94(m): 11:14am On May 01, 2015
While reading the novel P.S I Love you by Cecelia Ahern, I came across a line that really impressed me. It was something like this (I can’t remember how the author put it, but I can summarize it):

“Healthy young people are afraid of getting older and graying. But young sickly people wish and hope to see their old age, to touch the strand of gray hair on their hair.”

This made me realize that some people are lucky, and some people aren’t, enough to see there old age. I had this jaundiced opinion that birthdays and New Year shouldn’t be celebrated in an elaborate manner and that they were like every other day. Despite it being a special day, a million things could still happen and mar your day. Furthermore, I argued that birthdays signified that one was getting older and closer to old age which ultimately translated to death. But I was wrong. Yes birthdays are like every other day and something could still go wrong but we never know what will or how it will, so why bother about what we don't know? After reading the novel, I began to see old age as a blessing especially if one has lived a long and rewarding life. And I intend to live each day of my life doing what I want, enjoy what I do and eschew regret. To find joy in every circumstance and a reason to smile. To lose my fear of death and see it as something that will happen when it will happen _ I have no control over it and thus I shouldn't be saddened by it.
The most important objective of birthdays is to be THANKFUL for your blessings and your life. For people like me who have lived a healthy life and have never been to the hospital for any health reason (I can’t even describe how the interior of a hospital is), our blessing is double portioned.

Happy Birthday to me
And a Happy workers day to you

personally I dont like rochas. and its not because he is in APC.
forget what you see on tv or read, rochas is a better actor than mercy Johnson and Ramsey Noah combined.
he talks from both sides of the mouth and betrayed everybody that supported him or help bring him to power. the man is cunning, father tortise has nothing on him.
all the same congratulations to him. it was a hard fought battle and I hope he will become less arrogant, partisan, cunning .

Well said my brother. Also important.

How will you quell corruption in the States and LGs (almost 50% of the total pie)? Considering these are elected officials, many of whom have immunity?

I think state level is where is the corruption is most pungent. Considering that they are the closest to the common man, these evil governors loot without pity.

Such question are what we should be asking. We shouldn't believe because we feel but because we have a good reason to.
Besides aren't there other candidates besides GMB and GeJ

I've said in a different thread that I don't understand the kind of issueless politics, politicians and government we have in Nigeria. People support candidates based on sentiments and not facts.
Ok good and fine, GMB fought corruption as military head of state, how will he do it as a civilian president in a democratic dispensation? Remember the dude was in full control of the different arms of government (dictator!); but now we are in a democracy where power is equally shared between the arms of government. If par adventure, the good general wins the election, will he arrest ( work of the executive) and try and sentence corrupt elite (a function of the judiciary enabled by the legislations passed by NASS)?
I think it's time the good general comes out an state, concretely, how he will fight this hydra headed thing called corruption. Again what he's say on the economy. How will he build it and maintain and diversify it?
This are the questions we should be asking instead of shouting sai Buhari and GeJ 2019 up and down. Remember what happened after everyone jumped on the Jonah bandwagon in 2011. As someone said on NL that he doesn't like herd Abi Na crowd mentality, it's always wrong.
There are some voters, like me, that are still on the fence. Presenting issues like this will help sway us.

By the way wetin be sai and Kai

Business / Re: Mini Importation Business, Am I Going Crazy Or What? by emeka94(m): 7:43pm On Jan 08, 2015
Ymodulus:
I will take the above to be your first time doing business. Well don't get bitter over the loss. Business is a an euphemistic risk in my own definition and the first is always the learning point. Notwithstanding your loss you can make good use of the said amount ( N20,000 ) and make reasonable profit. All depends on your logic and determination and how well you can face the world.

In Importation I always like to classify it into 4

1. The Buyers and sellers. ( They buy item and sell )
2. The Suppliers. They supply item in bulk and get money. Requires more expertise money/ experience and connection )
3. The procurement guys. They buy for people and they pay them
4. Contract getters.

With the sum of N20,000 i have this pin size advice to give you.

1. Do not rush buying any item because you see your mates buying them or its the latest fad in town. Do proper research. At times the most stupid item may be the best selling item.

2. From experience avoid items that involve large money. Try get items that requires less and profit will be high. Let's get it straight in business you have to kill your emotions and its about the final money. If you are to import get items that when you bring them in landing cost should not exceed N2000 and that when you sell them you can make gain of N800 per item at minimum.

Please for your N20,000 do not go about importing these items

a. Female Bag
b. Brazilian Hair
c. Phone. ( You need more strength to sell this but it can be so rewarding mind you. )

Avoid the above liste items. its a 20% success - 80% failure chance. Also your money won't be enough to finance it. And you may not have the required market of which is difficult this does not goes to say you can't make a profit no. But let these be your last options.

Items I did prolly advice you get, are items of less value and weight. You can look into

a ) Slippers : I mean quality in-house slippers, I know you will say am stupid or crazy but sir these is the season and many guys are raking in big money from it. From Adidas to several crazy slippers design, I will send you a manufacturer for this if you want.

b ) Wrist Watches: Like it or not these are selling items. You just need to know the right way to sell it.

c) Female Flat Shoes: female flat shoes are moving like hell. Though am not into them but I can bodly tell you people on it are ploughing in money.

d) Glasses: By glass I mean Designers glasses. Complete replica. Note I said complete replica. These replicas are exactly the same undistinguishable. I mean AAA not AA or A. Meet guys like sterdam / shinaf. They will assist for free on this. And tell you how to sell it and if you are lucky sterdam may be of greater help to you here.

e). Fashion Items: Look for items in general that are used and will get finished everyday. Items that people will always want to keep coming for. Please avoid Cream Tubes as they are contra - band but if you must go for them. Contact me I will give you a shipper to handle that.

g). Generally if you must go for an item do it under these two category. Consumable Goods or Luxury.

Mode of Selling: There are many means to sell. The easiest way is through BBM , Konga, Jumia or Nairaland Advert ( I mean paid advert offered by seun on nairaland. ). I know you may say why should I pay 2000naira for an advert for 3-4 days trust me those advert change life. You can't even get such response from google AdSense. For konga and Jumia contact the nairalander. Paradise163 she will explain all you need. And hey believe me konga and jumia is the best for you. More to it than people see. But for now rake in your money fast and clear.
Olx too is another fast means but advertising in popular locations only. Post one advert in about 6 states preferably ( Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, Ogun, Kano and Portharcoyt ).

Please also note this that the above advice is based on the premise that you want to venture into the buying and selling aspect of importation. And do not make mistake of trying to say you can go alone, meet guys to put you through and give you necessary assistance in one way or the other so you do not experiment with N20,000.

As I take a bow, I will like to hammer once more on my last advice. Please meet someone to guide you do not risk things anyhow. You can meet any of these guys.

MayorAll.
Youngzedd
Initialize
Paradise163 ( she will be so free. Note the other names are very busy guys. But paradise will be free. )
Nivlin
Delaruh
Sterdam
Yemi2plus
9free, etc
Many and many others.

If you want ideas about pricing of items meet Thespecialone, to me he has the best pricing idea I will support however not all times you make items cheap.

In all meet someone to coach you please and please. To further emphasize on you getting a mentor let me leave you with this quote

What an elder will see when seated , you won't see even when standing on an iroko tree - Unknown . (but an Igbo adage not so sure though )

Please meet some to guide you. Thanks

I keep hearing GmB will stop corruption but am yet to hear how.
for Gods sake he was a military head of state then and in control of the different arms of government. how will he fight corruption in a Democratic dispensation?
will he redraft the constitution that favours and protect the rich? or will he write a new constitution himself? will he fire all the useless bench warmers in the NASS? how will he do fight the corruption?
why are we not asking our legislative arm the right questions? it is one thing to arrest and another to prosecute.
seriously?! what's our problem?
we seem to forget that the executive can only arrest and investigate. why isn't anybody calling NASS out?
buhari should tell us how he will fight corruption and not promise that he will because he has done it before ( as a dictator!)
the man is yet to say anything tangible about our economy and other sector. Abi na corruption fighting we go chop?!
GEJ is not the best but when compared to GMB, he looks better. that man, buhari, is a ticking bomb. a single minded dictator that might not be comfortable in a democracy. under him freedom of speech, especially on NL, will be a luxury.
If only Jonah will stop bromacing with corrupt people.

I'm trying to find the bearing of this thread. What point are you trying to pass across!? I'm seeing rape and culture/tradition - what's the correlation?

am trying to point out to people that say wearing skimpy clothes is un-african and a borrowed concept from the west, that we Africans, from the beginning, have been wearing attires that didn't properly cover them up.

the rape statement is trying to point out that wearing of revealing clothes is not the predominant cause of rape, else our forebears would have successfully raped their women beyond repair.

I've often heard people say that wearing skimpy dresses/clothes are un-African. The few pictures of Our forebears that I have seen, shows them wearing next to nothing (both men and women). So am confused where did the saying that skimpy dresses is not un-african come from? And also for those people arguing that wearing of skimpy dresses is the reason why most women are raped, is it that African forebears had no libido or is the modern men sexual predators.

Disclaimer: nudity or semi-nudity doesn't make a woman pretty and am not in support of it. angry
