SoNature:
NLC should insist on removing the subsidy by 50%. When you remove it by 50%, use that money to provide palliatives ahead of total removal in a couple of years.

Why can't the government pay this subsidy to Dangote refinery directly and have the refinery supply it to Nigerians if they claim that corruption is the problem?
I think they have been removing percentage by percentage. I think this is the final percentage so there is nothing like 50%.

Family › Re: Should I Meet Her Biological Father Before Paying Bride-Price To Her Step-father by emerged01(m): 2:33pm On Jun 01, 2023
satelliteDISH:
This is a very tough one.
The girls mother is very bitter. She has been nursing that bitterness all her life since she got pregnant. She doesn't want the man that got her pregnant and abandoned her to reap from the gains that come through the girl.
That is her revenge. To her, that is justice served.

To go see the biological father might not go down well with your mother in law and she will hate you for this.
Since your fiancee and her mother have disowned the man. They have acknowledged the step father as their father and husband, go and honour the step father with the necessary traditional items.

The biological father cannot come out of the blues and reap from where he didn't invest for over 20+ years of the girls life. It is an unfair trade.
I quite agree with you to some extent but your last paragraph got me thinking, what if what the mother- inlaw said was all lies. Wont it be nice to hear the other side of the story before judging the man?
Though if I have to advice op,he should talk to his babe to meet her father and iron things before marriage. The only business op has right now is with the girl he wants to marry. She should be able to do that for the sake of the guy and see things in the guy's perspective.
Things need to be done in a proper way,the problem the mother-inlaw had with the girl's father should have nothing to do with Op.
OP,should the right thing as a man.

This is like a man chasing his shadow. He will never catch it except when the sun is overhead.
The only export Nigeria has is crude oil and the money from it is not enough to balance trade.
Therefore, import is still more than export and the demand for dollars will continue to exceed supply. This is called scarcity and it drives price of the particular scare item, in this case the dollar.
Ok! You think,time will tell.

Is it possible for one to convert dollar to naira online and transfer it to ones bank account without losing a kobo or patronizing P2P and bereau de change?

how does this even change anything? black market still sells for 750 remember?
Very possible. I think 630/$ is for first phase in unifying the exchange rate.

The rates were practically unified until Buhari came to power your theory about bank account is theory. Diaspora Nigerians bring in millions every single day and people buy millions of dollars daily
whole operate on huge volumes and small margins maybe 2 to 10 Naira
Do you think the difference between the official rate and the parallel market goes to the Aboki on the street?
No
it goes to cronies of Emefiele and the likes of Mamman Daura

You forget that the animus actually buy dollars from the public at higher rates
Bro,we are saying the samething, when it is finally unified, the cronies of Emefiele will have lose their stands. I believe with this, there will be more dollars in the bank except there are saboteurs.

RomanGreen:
It's not only fuel this country imports besides Dangote alone won't be able to meet local demands and trust that other importers would want to remain in business. Dollar will still be needed for other products being imported. Until we have an economy largely dependent on local production, the demand for dollar will continue, whatever Tinubu is doing now will only be temporary, only the natural forces of production, demand supply will strengthen the naira, let's hope this is matched with enabling environment for local businesses and production especially to thrive else it will all be effort in futility
I belong to this guy school of thought. Those that are benefitting in the gap between official rate and black market are losing already and they are part of the people that create scarcity.

What effect will this have on people that earn in dollars?
I think no effect, there wont be need to withdraw your dollar to exchange in the hands of Abokis. Every transaction will be done in the bank when you know that exchange rate is the same in the hands of Aboki.

Unifying the exchange rate go spoil business for Abokis o. Because there wont be need to patronise them when you can easily convert your dollar to naira online and transferring it to your bank account without losing kobo.

nairalanda1:
Damm, you don't even need to support Tinubu to relaize that subsidy is bad for the economy.

The problem is, the cost of production of fuel as well as the amount of fuel used in this country rises. Like we went from 40 m liters a day in 2013 to 80 million now.

The more the cost of producing fuel rises, the more the cost of subsidy rises. And that means we would be taking money from the budget for other things to fund subsidy.

In 2012, Jan....the landing cost of fuel was N99, and the pump price, as set by government was N65. In Sept 2022, the landing cost had gone up to N502.

Now, if we had kept pump price at N65 up till 2022, the amount of money we would have been spending on subsidy would have risen from N34 per liter to N 445 per liter.

Let's not forget that daily consumption has gone up from 40m in 2012 to 80 m in 2023.

At the end, the budget won't be able to cope, and the borrowing would be pro-max
People will not understand. It is crazy using 95% of our revenue to fund fuel subsidy.

This is always the reaction of shallow minded individuals.

Who's making abnormal profit here?

Let's say you are into this same fuel business and you normally buy 50lits for #10k. And after retailing for maybe #250per a litre, you will make about #12500. Now, you just bought your 50lits yesterday and today you're told that the same 50lits is now being sold for #30k. How possible will it be for you to still sell at your "normal" price to be able to restock?
Bro,go and read the news about expiration of fuel subsidy again and come back here to comment with common sense.
Why I'm against the announcement was because it was suppose to be down by end of june, not when the marketers are still being paid fuel subsidy till end of June. They are just taking advantage of the announcement. Do you want to tell me they were not aware that fuel subsidy will end by june?

I appreciate prominent people like Ohanaeze President, Chief Iwuanyawu, and Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, asking Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu

However, this is no longer necessary. Nnamdi Kanu has already secured two court judgments that awarded him billions of Naira compensation against the federal government, as well as a court of appeal judgement discharging and releasing him

How can you be begging Federal government to release someone already released by the courts? Buhari is too lawless to obey court order

What people should be demanding for is adherence to the rule of law and the courts.

Stop begging the FG to release Nnamdi Kanu and demand the enforcement of court judgements!
I no even understand you. Court released person,Fg not obey court order. What is their to demand again than to beg? Na wetin wey we dey tell una be this, emotion in some situation dey make things worse.

Consolidation is to make the work of the judges easier.

It means that the petitions of Atiku, Obi and the other unknown guy will be determined together as one case even though they filed their cases separately and represent different political parties.

The Electoral ACt, in it's first schedule, provides for the consolidation of the petitions when there are a many petitioners.

No special status is given to either Atiku's or Obi's case. They will be dismissed together.
Maybe they know that both Atiku and Obi's case will be determined as one to make the work easier for judges.

Both parents have passed no will was left. I basically leave the rents collected from the house rent to my only younger brother.

Now the house is deteriorating and I want to fix it, like give it a major facelift but the funds will be coming from me entirely. I don't have a personal house of mine but I believe an overhaul of this place can give leverage to increase the rent as it is in a good part of town.

My fear is after this investment, will I be able to recoup any funds? If I am to pass away, will my kids have any access to the property?

I love my brother but I've heard and read stories of human behavior especially in situations where there is no documentation.

What do I do?
Oga go build your own house. Let your brother you use money from rent to facelift the house.

OP doesn't understand a thing about economics. Writing off importance of infrastructures shows you need somebody to start teaching you basics of economics.
In no time a business of 2b naira will collapses without good infrastructures. Infrastructures is one of the major thing investors consider before taking a step towards investing in a country.
Our poor infrastructures is what actually cause low investment in the country. We need more rails that can move people within 30mins or 45mins to next state to encourage investors.
