Eight self-proclaimed prophets have drowned during a ceremony in a river in Rushinga, Mashonaland Central Province, Zimbabwe, Newspremises reports.

The prophets from the Vadzidzi vaJeso Apostolic sect drowned on Saturday, October 30, at Mazowe River.

The incident took place at around 2pm at the Hungumwe River which lies at the confluence of Mazowe Tsvinje River when the prophets fell into a trance during their annual Passover ceremony and stampeded into the river, resulting in their drowning.

According to local media, the prophets were competing to retrieve a "holy stick" in the deep waters of the river during a ritual to select a baptist.

The provincial development coordinator for Mashonaland Central Province, Timothy Maregere, who confirmed the incident, said that their bodies had since been retrieved.

"The group consisted of 10 'prophets' and only two survived," Maregere said.

Mashonaland Central deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo, on Sunday, named the now deceased as Nickson Singano (29), Peter Marera (31), Tendai Marera (28), Alexeio Makombe (26), Tichawana Katiyo (32), Isaac Dokora (21), Lanciot Dokora (34) and Chriswell Kunyengerera.

You can become a Biafran apologist or ambassador but stop the attitude of generalizing Ndigbo into such movement. I’m in Lagos trying to put food on my table, some of us are surviving in Abuja with families, yet a band of scallywags with their myopic financiers abroad want to make sure that Ndigbo are always in the news for the wrong reason.

Many of us have seen far that this Biafra as an agenda will never do us good from now till 80 years. Rather it will relegate us in every sphere. Anything built with tactlessness, emotions and daftness will end in doom. Yes, a lot might not be going well for our ethnic group as it involves inclusiveness during this administration, and also as it involves a subtle move by some cabals to deny us from becoming President of this country. But will the cry for Biafra make any difference? Will turning your homes into refugees camps make any difference? Will supporting a group of ESN terrorist make any difference?

For you to compare Biafran agitators with Boko Haram shows you are naive and definitely not an igbo man, not all igbos support ipob's modus operandi but 99 percent of igbos are sympathetic to them and 99% also want a break from this suffocating and retrogressive system, the earlier we all come to terms that this present arrangement favours no one but few political elites across all tribes and zones the better for us.

Something is wrong with some of our politicians, why is he campaigning in alaba, is the election taking place in Lagos or he thinks these traders will abandon their business to travel to Anambra vote for him and come back to Lagos?
