PoliticsIBB Warns PDP Ahead Of National Convention by emma321(op): 4:27pm On Dec 03, 2017
Former military head of state, Ibrahim Babangida, IBB, has spoken ahead of the Saturday 9th December 2017 convention of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

IBB said as founding fathers and stakeholders, there is the pressure to collectively assure Nigerians that the party has learnt bitter lessons.

His statement issued on Sunday and signed by his spokesman, Prince Kassim Afegbua, read “Following the defeat of the party in the 2015 election, it is incumbent upon us as leaders and stakeholders to use the opportunity of the convention to sober reflect on the challenges confronting us, identify our flaws and seek plausible ways to correct them in order to come out stronger in subsequent elections.

“An elective convention presents as it were, a rare opportunity and veritable platform to elect in a holistic manner a credible, tested, down-to-earth and truly urbane candidate with enough stamina, distinguished character and national acceptability who is driven by incurable optimism and passion for a united Nigeria.

“At this point of our political history as a party, we need a National Chairman who is driven by uncommon initiatives, creativity in ideas and a rich content of character to lead and stabilize the party in line with the laudable ideals of the founding fathers of the party. Such an individual must possess national recognition to be able to galvanize political opportunities and transform them into tangible outcomes in our democratic engagements.

“When we were conceptualizing the idea of the PDP at formation, we had in mind a party that offers platform for all Nigerians in their pursuit of legitimate political aspirations. The choice of her motto; POWER TO THE PEOPLE was in sync with our clear objective of recognizing the people as the repository of power. In any democratic engagement, the people decide the outcome of elections through popular and inclusive participation. The monetization of our electoral process is disturbingly eroding that power which should ordinarily reside in the people.

“In the last few days, I get frightened by the monetary consideration that is likely to dictate who emerges as the National Chairman of our great party rather than what the people truly want. The discussion is more on the side of heavy monetization of the process and ultimate “procurement” of the position of the Chairman by the highest bidder. This approach, in my humble view, defeats the whole essence of participation, free choice and voting which are the essential attributes of any democracy without inducement and outright manipulation. I wish to plead that we tread on the path of caution and common sense, conscious of our recent history of avoidable political crisis.

“At 76, and given the benefit of hindsight, my role both in context and content; is now more of advisory one to enhance any altruistic democratic process to elect credible leadership at various levels of representation. Rather than de-monetize the electoral process to provide ample room for more citizens’ participation, the idea of monetizing the process and trying to “procure” party positions defeats merit, offends good conscience and blurs fair play. At this critical stage of our political secretions, we need men of stature, discipline, character and commendable conduct to breathe fresh air into our party and not persons whose political relevance is the product of naira and kobo bargain across the counter.

“We need a National Chairman that would not bend to the vagaries of individual selfish interest but one who is strong enough to apply the rule of law without fear or favour. We must begin the process of interrogating processes that lead to outcomes and not just the outcomes. We must interrogate our leadership recruitment process and encourage our delegates to exercise the power of their thumbs in making their preferred choice among the candidates.

“Good name cannot be bought with gold or silver. Good name is the sum total of the individual’s conduct in his trajectory and his overall assessment through life’s enduring journey. On the strength of this, I wish to make a passionate appeal to our members, party leaders and the members of the Convention Committee to be fair and just to all, and allow the process to produce a National Chairman that would truly represent the conscience of the party. I do subscribe to the idea that consensus building, collective bargaining and constructive engagement are some of the ingredients that nurture any democratic process; such ingredients should be given enough room to flourish in order to birth credible and truly representative leadership.

“Our party, the PDP, must re-invent and re-enact itself on account of her recent history of factions and fractures. The new leadership must therefore be one that enjoys the confidence of the majority stakeholders and members in order to have a seamless transition. To achieve this template, such a chairman must be the outcome of delegates’ election without manipulation and inducement. One would have thought that after the 2015 dismal outing, followed by months of leadership tussles, individuals would have put to rest their selfish and egocentric interest and pursue goals and objectives that bear true testimony to the ideals of the founding fathers; but the sound bites of monetization of the process are utterly demoralizing and benumbing.

“It is my strong belief therefore that leaders of the party irrespective of their political interest would allow reason and level playing field to prevail in the overall interest of the party. I wish the party a successful and peaceful convention on Saturday 9th December, 2017.”

PoliticsBuhari Fires Back Over Atiku’s Comment On US Ban by emma321(op): 7:36am On Dec 03, 2017
The presidency has described former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s claims in a recent interview that for about 15 years President Muhammadu Buhari could not enter the United States on account of his religious considerations is “a fictive concoction”.

This was contained in a statement issued Saturday evening by Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina.

He said: “This fictive concoction being passed off as truth is mind boggling, coming from a former Number Two man of Nigeria, who should know the truth.

“At no time was President Buhari, as a private person, ever forbidden from entering any country in the world.

“Rather, the rest of the world has always held Muhammadu Buhari as a man of sterling qualities, strong on integrity, transparency and accountability. The same testimony is still borne of the Nigerian President by many world leaders today.

“It is curious that former VP Abubakar had been asked why he had not visited America for over a decade, something that had been a stubborn fact dogging his footsteps.

“Instead of answering directly, he begged the question, saying Buhari also had been disallowed from entering the same country for 15 years, before becoming President.

“We hereby make it resoundingly clear that what the former Vice President said only exists in the realm of his imagination. If he has issues to settle with American authorities, he should do so, rather than clutch at a straw.”

Music/RadioEfe Has Just Dropped A New Single And It Is Called “warri”. [music] by emma321(op): 4:59pm On Dec 01, 2017
Efe has just dropped a new single and it is called “Warri”.

This one is a collaborative effort, one that every rap fan had been waiting for – Efe featuring Olamide.

They finally made it happen and the end product is simply amazing and worth the while.

Olamide’s performance on this joint is just crazy, he killed the beat and staked his claim as the most talented musician in the country.

This one is a rap tune, but their delivery is so good that the song will soar on top of dance playlists for the holiday season.

While Efe did his usual style, he had to make two changes, up his bars to meet Olamide’s standards, and change producer as the beat was cooked by Olamide’s Young John, instead of the usual Duktor Sett.

This song is what you call a HIT!

Cop the song below, enjoy and share your thoughts on it with us.

PoliticsSenate Suspends Planned Commissioning Of Kaduna Power Plant by emma321(op): 7:34am On Nov 28, 2017
Senate Joint Committee on Power, Steel Development and Metallurgy and Gas Resources on Monday ordered suspension of planned commissioning of multi million dollars Kaduna gas plant over disagreement between Power Ministry and Gas contractors.
The decision followed a one day investigative hearing on the “Urgent need to save the 215 MW Kaduna Power Plant”, presided by Senators Enyinnaya Abaribe and Albert Bassey in Abuja.

The power plant, which was inaugurated in 2009 by former President, Goodluck Jonathan to service textile industries in Kaduna has been three years behind the scheduled commissioning.

Lawmakers who were equipped with information on the gas plant became dissapointed, when the Permanent Secretary of Power, Mr. Louis Edozie could not explain the change in parameters of the plant from gas powered plant to diesel powered plant contrary to the original design.

The Permanent Secretary further told the Committee of planned commissioning of one unit out of eight by January, 2018, adding that the plant would use diesel instead of gas.

Disclosing that diesel is expected to cost the country N46 million per day, the lawmakers, however, became alarmed at the cost and said it was cheaper for the plant to run on gas.

Chairman of GreenVille LNG, Eddy Van Den Broeke, who led his team to address the Committee said that the company had a Memorandum of understanding with the Kaduna Gas Plant to build storage facilities for the plant at no cost.

He also stated that while the plant would produce a kilowatt of electricity at N79 if run on diesel, it will produce the same kilowatt of power at N37.

He said that his company had, as a result of the MOU it signed with the Power Plant invested the sum of $400 million on its Gas plant in Roumuoji, Port Harcourt

“In 2014 when the parametres were signed it was agreed that LNG is most competitive. We have invested $400million after which people in the ministry decided to change the parametres.”

“It will cost $200 million more to use AGO(diesel) because there is no other fuel available that can replace LNG and GreenVille. I would want the ministry to give me one cent of response on this change of theory.”

Co-chairman of the Joint Committee, Senator Albert Bassey announced the suspension of the planned commissioning.

He said: “Please tell your Minister to stop the process of commissioning because the project cannot be ready even by mid next year.”

“We are insisting that it will be cheaper to run the plant with Gas and Gas is environmentally friendly. Let your Minister know we cannot be taken for granted.”

Decrying the change in parameters, Abaribe said: “We have heard a lot of disturbing things and we have seen that we have put the Cart before the Horse.”

“You see one price at N79 and the other at N35, why do you go for the higher cost which is not cost effective. If you are going to spend N46 million daily to run a plant and you said it is temporary, that is not effective.’

PoliticsLagos To Buy Surveillance Aircraft To Fight Militants by emma321(op): 7:26pm On Nov 27, 2017
Lagos Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has announced plan to acquire Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform, a specialized light aircraft, to secure creeks and riverine communities in the State.

Speaking at Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja, when he received Commanders of Armed Forces formations in the State on courtesy visit, Ambode said it was gratifying that in the last two and half years of his administration, security agencies have been extremely cooperative and working hard to ensure safety of lives and property.

While lauding the cordial relationship that exists among security agencies, Ambode noted that there had never been any major civilian-military clash since the advent of his administration, and urged the military to sustain the peaceful atmosphere in the State.

He said: “All the security agencies in the State have been extremely cooperative with us. They have been able to put down that foundation that we have always wanted that without security there will be no development and irrespective of the changes we have had in terms of leadership of armed forces formations in the last two and half years, they have all done extremely well.

“Lagos is a cosmopolitan State and no matter how much efforts or resources government is putting in place, if there are no leg runners to execute those resources or even use them effectively, we will not be talking about peace.

“My aim is to ensure that every Lagosian sleeps and wake up comfortable and whatever it takes for us to do that is through the utmost cooperation of security agencies and I believe that you will offer that and as we move Lagos forward, it will have positive impact on Nigeria as a whole because everything good that happens in Lagos, is a reflection of what is happening in Nigeria.”

While assuring that his government would not relent in supporting security agencies with critical infrastructure and logistics to enhance their job, the Governor also urged them to continue to put the equipment procured for them into good use for the overall security and comfort of the people.

Earlier, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Airforce Logistics Command, AVM J’afaru Yahaya, who led other service commanders including GOC 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Peter Dauke; Commander, 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ellias Attu; Commander, Military Intelligence Brigade, Brigadier General T.J Kareem; Commander, 651 Base Service Group of Nigerian Navy, Air Commodore Musbau Olatunji, among others, said they were at Lagos House to assure the State Government of their commitment to ensure security-tight environment for people to go about their lawful business.

Yahaya lauded Governor Ambode for the support to security agencies, saying the move by the State Government to acquire ISR platform would go a long way in securing the creeks and helping security agencies to fish out criminals.

“I want to most sincerely thank Governor Ambode for all the support he has rendered to security services of the State particularly in the area of vehicles and other logistic support.

“I am aware you are at the verge of recording another feat getting an ISR platform to ensure a 24/7 surveillance in the creek areas of Lagos State so that we will be able to fish out the criminals that disturb people from going about their lawful business,” Yahaya said.

TravelUber Fined $8.9m For Using Criminals As Drivers by emma321(op): 8:37am On Nov 22, 2017
Uber is in the news again and this time a Colorado, U.S. regulators issued an $8.9 million fine against its parent company for allowing employees with serious criminal or motor vehicle offenses to work for the company as drivers.

The Colorado Public Utilities Commission said it launched an investigation into the ride-hailing service in March after an Uber passenger said his driver assaulted him in the mountain resort town of Vail.

Within the last year and a half, the commission said it found that nearly 60 of the company’s drivers were allowed to work in Colorado despite having previous felony convictions.

The drivers included a habitual offender, a former prison escape and others with major traffic violations including drunk driving.

Colorado state law prevents people with felony convictions, alcohol or drug-related driving offenses, unlawful sexual offenses and major traffic violations from working for rideshare companies.

“We have determined that Uber had background check information that should have disqualified these drivers under the law, but they were allowed to drive anyway.

“These actions put the safety of passengers in extreme jeopardy,” Public Utilities Commission Director Doug Dean said.

In a statement, the commission said it also found felony convictions that Uber didn’t catch, and “in other cases, we could not confirm criminal background checks were even conducted by the company.”

Uber said in a statement that it recently discovered a “process error” that was inconsistent with Colorado’s ridesharing regulations and affected what the company called a small number of drivers.

It said it notified the state and fixed the problem but did not elaborate.

“Per Uber safety policies and Colorado state regulations, drivers with access to the Uber app must undergo a nationally accredited third party background screening.

“We will continue to work closely with the CPUC to enable access to safe, reliable transportation options for all Coloradans,” it said.

The Colorado PUC said the $8.9 million penalty was calculated based on a $2,500 fine for each day an employee was illegally behind the wheel.

The commission said Uber can pay half of that amount within ten days to resolve the case or it can schedule a hearing and contest the allegations in before a judge.

The company’s image has been tarnished by findings of sexual harassment of employees and multiple reports of drivers assaulting passengers.

Last week, two women who said they were sexually assaulted by Uber drivers filed a federal lawsuit in San Francisco alleging that inadequate background checks and monitoring left them and thousands of others vulnerable.

PoliticsChef Drugs Ex-minister Of Finance, Idika, Robs Him Of N10million by emma321(op): 8:41am On Nov 21, 2017
Peter Odion, a chef to Dr. Kalu Idika allegedly drugged and robbed the ex-Minister of Finance of cash and valuables worth N10million.

Odion was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command and paraded on Monday.

The former Minister and his chef lived at 180A, Moshood Olugbani Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The suspect allegedly put some sedatives into a cup of coffee he served Idika some weeks ago.

After the former Minister slept off, Odion was said to have led his gang members into the boss’ apartment, where they made away with a sum of N750,000, a Blackberry, a Samsung phone and other valuables estimated at about N10million.

The suspect was paraded on Monday at the police command office in Ikeja along with four others identified as Samuel Ogana, Joy Omagu, Uboh Obi and Sunday Emmanuel.

Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, revealed that operatives of the State Intelligence Bureau tracked down the suspects.

According to Edgal, the gang members wanted to adopt a similar method to rob one Augustina Akhibi, when they were caught.

He said, “The syndicate is made up of six members who specialise in getting jobs as cooks or home helps and while in service, gain the trust of their principals and inject their food with drugs to make them sleep off.

“They thereafter cart away their principals’ belongings.

“The first victim , Dr Kalu Idika, was robbed of items worth N10,943,000 on September 20, 2017, while the second potential victim, Mrs. Akhibi, was used by the police as a bait to bust the syndicate.”

He listed items recovered from the suspects as Diazepam Injection, ground nitrogen (morgodon), and a syringe filled with some substances.

PoliticsWillie Obiano's Acceptance Speech On His Re-Election As Anambra State Governor by emma321(op): 4:08pm On Nov 19, 2017
Time to Build a New World

Being the text of the Acceptance Speech by the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano on his Re-election as the Governor of Anambra State on Sunday, November 19, 2017

Ndi b’ anyi, ekenem unu

With utmost humility, I stand before you to accept thehistoric mandate you have bestowed on me today!

Umu nnem, the victory we savour today belongs neither to Willie Obiano nor to our great party, APGA. No! This sweet victory belongs to Ndi Anambra!

It belongs to the wheel barrow pushers and the Okada riders who have clearly seen in our recent political experience, a glimmer of light in the horizon.

It belongs to the farmers in Ayamelum, Onono, Ogbaru, Omasi, Omor and Ufuma who have now realized that Agriculture is the future of Nigeria.

It belongs to the teachers and civil servants who have seen that a motivated workforce is the greatest asset of any government and have rewarded our faith in them with an overwhelming verdict at the polls.

It belongs to the illustrious sons and daughters of Anambra State who have seen the STAR of this great state rise in the Eastern Skies and have answered our call for Aku luo uno; bringing home their Naira and Dollars to put our dear state on the investment map!

This victory belongs to all of us! Umu nnem, this victory isnot a winner takes it all. For in the New Anambra of my dream, everyone is a winner. Everyone!

So, I reach out a hand of brotherhood to my fellow contestants…Oseloka, Tony, Osita, Godwin and others whose names I cannot easily recall here. And I say to you;my brothers, we have all fought a good fight. But Anambra State is the WINNER! The interest of AnambraState is bigger than the private ambitions of anyone of us.. Therefore, I pray you to join hands with me and build a better place for Ndi Anambra! Our beloved state needs our talent and our time. The time to build a better place is NOW!

Indeed, this victory is a referendum on the solid resolve of Ndi Anambra to rise above average in all we do. We have demonstrated that we are indeed capable of taking charge of our lives and making difficult decisions that will brighten the future of our children. I have no doubt in my mind that we shall continue to lay the building blocks for a prosperous tomorrow for all.

Ndi Anambra, this mandate is dear to my heart. I see it as a historic call to inspire my people to greatness. I see it as a call to deny myself sleep that my people might sleep better. Umu nnem, I will not give myself rest until our beloved state has fully assumed the status of the model state of Nigeria. This is my promise to you all.

Fellow compatriots, this victory did not come by chance. It is the final product of the combined efforts of brilliant men and women who sacrificed their personal comfort to ensure that Anambra’s steady march to progress is not derailed.

My first and deepest gratitude goes to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President MuhammaduBuhari for proving to Ndi Anambra that under his watch, democracy will sink deeper roots in the Nigerian soil. Mr President promised us a free and fair election. Today, we can all see that he has kept his promise. Thank you so much Mr President!

I must also thank the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting what has been widely adjudged a transparent election in Anambra State. With this election, INEC has shown that it has fully braced up for the 2019 elections. Thank you so much.

I will also not forget the vigilance of the Nigerian Police, the Nigerian Army and other law enforcement agencies whose alertness ensured that the expressed will of the people was not thwarted. Indeed, you have done an incredible job!

To the indefatigable DG of my re-election campaign organization, Chief Victor Umeh, Ibobo Aguleri, Ohamadike! You and the entire Campaign Team have written your names in gold. My immense gratitude goes to every member of APGA, from the Ward Chairman to the members of the National Executive Council; you have made us proud! Chukwu gozie unu nine.

And to all the members of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, all the PGs and members of the various town unions across Anambra State, all the Bishops, Reverend Fathers and Pastors, the members of the organized Labour, the youths of Anambra State, the traders, the farmers, the ordinary men and women who look up to government for a better day, I assure you that my team and I shall never fail you.

Indeed, Ndi Anambra, on behalf of my capable Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke, I thank you all for renewing this mandate and I urge you to prepare for the speedy transformation of Anambra State into a prosperous sub-national entity in the next four years.

Umu nnem, we have stepped into our finest hour. We have finally hit the proverbial bend in the river. Our journey into greatness is now assured. We are ready and willing to work with anyone who has something to share that will make Anambra State great.

We are open to new ideas, new visions of society and a New Hope!

God bless Anambra State

God bless Nigeria

Dalunu

PoliticsAnambra Election: Bianca Defeats Ojukwu’s First Son by emma321(op): 8:55am On Nov 19, 2017
Bianca Ojukwu yesterday floored her step-son, Emeka Ojukwu Jr. in the Anambra State governorship election.
While Bianca is a staunch supporter of Willie Obiano, Emeka recently decamped to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The wife of the former Biafran leader Dim Odimegwu Ojukwu expressed joy with the victory recorded by the APGA candidate at the polling units in her ward, Umudim Central School, in Nnewi North LGA.

A breakdown of results collated in the unit showed that APGA recorded 261 votes, APC 98, and PDP 80.

Speaking to newsmen in the area, Mrs. Ojukwu, said, “In my area, APGA is winning. I believe we will go on to win the election.”

Emeka Ojukwu Jr. had thrown his weight behind the APC candidate, Tony Nwoye.

PoliticsBREAKING: Moves To Rig Anambra Election Uncovered, Figures To Be Changed Tonight by emma321(op): 10:00pm On Nov 18, 2017
BREAKING: Moves to rig Anambra Election uncovered, Figures to be changed tonight!

... Police, INEC fingered!

The ongoing drama between the Nigeria Police and the Independent National Electoral Commission in Anambra shows a clear move by the heavily defeated opposition parties in the State to rig the November 18th gubernatorial election held today.

The election which obviously and by all standards has been won by the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Chief Willie Obiano in a landslide victory represents the true will of the people.

As at this very hour, the police has declined to provide security for the ward collation officers to do their work thus making collation of polling units results almost impossible at Ward Collation Centres.

INEC has instead directed all parties to move from the 326 wards in the State to the local government INEC offices which provides the best opportunity for results to be manipulated.

While INEC accuse the police of not providing adequate security, the Nigerian Police has not voiced out the reason for abandoning their duty posts at the ward collation centres.

Why would INEC and the police want to thwart the wishes of ndi Anambra?

Gov Obiano was overwhelmingly re-elected by ndi Anambra as shown by the results coming in from the Polling Units.

Let the people's wish stand.

On the same vain IPOB BSS operative was said to have slap a Soldier at Osisioma Junction in an attempt to also stop their sit at home evangelism. It wanted to turn out to be a clash but the peaceful IPOB as they always have been calm down the situation and continued their awareness evangelism.

PoliticsOkorocha’s Commissioner Nominees: The Tried, The Untiring And The Changers by emma321(op): 7:11am On Nov 07, 2017
Yesterday, the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha released another list containing names of 14 commissioner nominees to add to an earlier 14 names already released and sent to the Imo State House of Assembly for necessary legislative foresight. This list, like the one before it is a balance between experience, opportunity and revolution. While some political virgins were brought in, a number of tested politicians and public administrators also made the list, giving credence to the governor’s avowed commitment to deploying the best hands to achieve the best possible, in the best interest of Imo people.

The new list released yesterday by the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Pascal Obi brings to 28, the total number of commissioners expected to make up the incoming Rescue Mission cabinet, as the administration prepares for a final push on delivering the best possible service to Imo people for the next 18 months.

With Dr. Mrs. Angela Uwakwem, Professor Nnamdi Obiaraeri, Professor Florence Emenalo and Barrister Obinna Mbata, you have a full squad of technocrats who can hold their own anytime, anywhere and help direct the ship of State to a desired and enviable path of progress. Angela Uwakwem’s record as the Federal Medical Center, Owerri remains one of the best any CMD of a Nigerian public health center can boast of. She achieved that much in an environment that was most unfriendly and unfavorable to progress, how much more when she comes on board as the Commissioner of Health under a governor that is desperate to turn the health sector around for good?

In Chief Emmanuel Ojinere, Barr. Ugochi Nnanna Okoro and others, we have a formidable team of technocrats who have have spent years in political offices and also shown capacity and integrity in the jobs they had been given in the past. These men and women represent, not just the focus and visions of the Rescue Mission administration, but the dreams of every good and patriotic Imo citizen, who desire that Imo continues on the path of progress and positive transformation.

We also have a few young people in the list who may be said to have had little experience in politicking and public offices. Young men like Chidi Nwaturuocha, Emeka Benjamin and Blessing Nwamerenini are names that may not ring a bell among political players in the State, but whose capacity to deliver is tested and certainly not in doubt.

GOD HAS BLESSED IMO STATE!
