PoliticsNNPC Has Finally Solved Problem Of Fuel Scarcity by emma321(op): 8:07am On Dec 25, 2017
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, has said that long queues at petrol stations in Lagos and Ogun states will soon disappear.

According to IPMAN, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has flooded the Ejigbo depot with Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol.

IPMAN said that the Ejigbo depot supplies no fewer than 900 filling stations in Lagos.

The IPMAN chairman in Lagos State, Alhaji Alanamu Balogun, said this in a statement on Sunday.

Balogun said the NNPC had now increased daily supply to Ejigbo from six trucks to 80 and has even promised to increase the supply.

He said, “Before the fuel crisis, the NNPC was supplying our members only six trucks daily, but since about five days now, the corporation has increased the supply to 80 trucks per day and promised to increase the supply.

“Our members and the NNPC staff are now working 24 hours daily to ensure that fuel circulates all over Lagos and Ogun State regularly ,” the statement quoted Balogun as saying on Sunday.

“The NNPC has repaired all the existing facilities at Ejigbo satellite depot to enhance fuel supply to the public. The situation now is that the fuel scarcity in Lagos and Ogun state will end within the next few days. Members of the public are advised to stop panic buying of fuel and storing petroleum products in their homes which could cause fire disaster.”

“The NNPC has promised to repair all its facilities in Ilorin , Ibadan and Ore depots to ensure regular fuel supply nationwide,” he added.

President Muhammadu Buhari has broken silence on the biting fuel scarcity.

The President said the situation is regrettable.

PoliticsIke Ekweremadu, Bankole, Katsina-alu Get 21-day Eviction Notices by emma321(op): 10:47am On Dec 23, 2017
The Special Presidential Investigation Panel, for Recovery of Public Property has given the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, a former Speaker of the House of Reps, Dimeji Bankole, and former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Aloysius Katsina-Alu, 21 days to vacate their residences.

The Chief Okoi Obono-Obla-led panel issued the quit notice on Thursday to the three politicians, as well as former Deputy Speaker and current Senator Usman Bayero Nafada.

A former Senate President, David Mark, received similar quit notice from the Panel back in September to which he had since filed a suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja to quash all the steps taken to evict him and recover the house from him by the panel.

The panel said the five of them illegally acquired their then-official residences as their private properties.

According to DailyTrust, the immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan had in November 2010 reportedly gave leave to the Senate President, the Deputy Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, to “purchase” their official quarters.

A source told Daily Trust, “The Senate President’s residence was sold to David Mark for N748 million; Speaker, House of Representatives’ residence was sold to Hon Dimeji Bankole for N670 million; while Deputy Senate President residence was sold to Senator Ike Ekweremadu for N458 million.

“Deputy Speaker House of Representatives residence was sold to Senator Nafada for N348.5 million; and they were all sold without competitive bidding contrary to the provisions of the Public Procurement Act especially Section 15 thereof”, one of the sources said, adding that the residence of Juctice Katsina-Alu was sold to him at N45million.

The newspaper also reports that former President Jonathan had directed that the sale of the property should be gazetted in the Federal Government Gazette in his minute in a memo sent to him by the then minister of the FCT Senator Bala Muhammad dated 18 November 2010, but that was not done.

The source added, “A gazette is a notice to the whole world of the position of government on any issue and since there was a prevailing gazette that the house bought by the plaintiff (referring to David Mark) should not be sold under Government monetization policy, the gazette would have superseded the previous one.

“So the previous gazette prevails since the sale was not gazetted. That alone has vitiated the sale. Secondly the sale is against the public procurement Act which provides any contract for a good and service must be through competitive bidding. The sale was not through competitive bidding.”

According to the news outlet added that the houses, which were not ordinary houses but institutional houses to principal officers of the National Assembly and the Executive had no right in the first place to given order for the houses to be sold

PoliticsBorno Cancels Holiday To Mark Sambisa’s Fall by emma321(op): 7:01am On Dec 22, 2017
Borno State Government has shelved its plan to declare Friday (today) as a public holiday to mark the capture of Sambisa Forest from the Boko Haram insurgents.

The state Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Mohammed Bulama, in a statement issued on Thursday in Maiduguri explained that the holiday was cancelled “on the grounds that since 22ndDecember of this year falls on a Friday which coincidentally dovetails into a four-day work-free period occasioned by the Christmas festivities, a declaration of the day as a public holiday will invariably deny Nigerian workers resident in Borno State, especially those who will observe and celebrate Christmas, the opportunity to withdraw their December salaries from the banks”.

He noted, however, that the holiday would be observed from 2018.

The commissioner recalled that Governor Kashim Shettima had in March, 2017 declared December 22 every year as a public holiday, saying, “The purpose of this declaration is not only to give us a special opportunity to remember the victims of the Boko Haram terrorism as well as the members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, members of other security agencies and volunteers who lost their lives in the fight against the insurgents, but also to celebrate the strength and the victory of our gallant Armed Forces.”

Bulama added, “The decision to reconsider the declaration of the public holiday this year is singularly dictated by the desire of the Borno State Government not to impose avoidable and unnecessary hardship on workers and considering the importance of workers’ salaries to the economy of the state, the general citizenry by extension.

“While the government sincerely regrets whatever inconvenience this decision might have caused members of the general public, it wishes to assure Bornolites that this public holiday will be strictly observed from next year, 2018 Insha Allah.”
