PoliticsGowon Reveals Biggest Enemy Of Democracy In Nigeria0 by emma321(op): 7:49am On Dec 21, 2017
A former Military Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, has said poverty is the biggest enemy of democracy in Nigeria.

Gowon stated this on Wednesday, while speaking at an event organised by the House of Justice in Kaduna.

The former head of state, who was represented by Jerry Gana, a former Minister of Information, said creation of jobs was very important for the stability of the country.

“If we want our democracy to be durable and ensure a just an peaceful nation, we must generate jobs for the unemployment,” he said.

“The issue of politics without principles is becoming worrisome, where the highest bidder have takes whatever is on the table. That cannot be the way of politics.

“No nation can ever build a society where the consideration is not in terms of value, principles or ideals, but to share money.

“If we want to build a nation of justice and peace, it cannot be on the basis of the highest bidder. We must reject poverty. This rejection of poverty is legitimate. Millions of Nigerians are poor.

“The biggest enemy of democracy is poverty. When people are poor, when people are reduced to destitute, then a little money can change their minds. Therefore, the freedom of choice in a democracy is taken away by those who control the resources,”‎ he added.

PoliticsApproval Of $1 Billion Is For 2019 Election Not To Fight Boko Haram by emma321(op): 7:05am On Dec 15, 2017
Former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has opined that the approval of $1 billion from excess crude account to fight Boko Haram insurgents in Northern part of the country is allegedly for 2019 election.

Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki after Thursday FEC meeting announced the approval of $1 billion from the Excess Crude Account by the federal government to be used in the prosecution of the war against the terrorist group, Boko Haram.

But reacting to the approval, Fani kayode said the APC government was planning to use the money to finance 2019 election and not to fight terrorism.

He added that part of the money will be shared between cabals and party leaders.

The PDP chieftain in his tweet wrote, “$1 billion is to be taken from the badly depleted Excess Crude Account to “fight Boko Haram”.

“This is a lie. The $1 billion will be used by Buhari and his APC to fight the 2019 presidential election and part of it will be shared between party leaders and the cabal.”

PoliticsSARS Will Be Reformed Not Scrapped – Nigeria Police Insists by emma321(op): 9:00am On Dec 14, 2017
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Jimoh Moshood has stated that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, will not scrapped but reformed despite nationwide protest.

Moshood disclosed this at a youth-police forum on Police Accountability in Lagos by Korede Bello Initiative.

CSP Moshood urged Nigerians to be patient as the police force was investigating complaints and feel their pains.

“We have families and we feel your pain; SARS reform is the way to go and not to end SARS.

“SARS has been doing very well in ensuring that robbery is reduced to the barest minimum in the country. However, concerns and allegations against them as regard the violation of human rights are being investigated on the directive of the Inspector General of Police.

“The reform that he has put in place is to ensure that SARS is streamlined just as the Mobile Police Force under a unified commander at the Force headquarters, who is a commissioner of police”, he said.

Dolapo Badmos, the Zonal police public relations officer for Lagos and Ogun state also present at the event commended the Korede Bello Initiative for the forum, reassuring Nigerians that the reform of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad was currently going on.

”If you have any complaint about any police or SARS officer, report and it will be dealt with appropriately by the Police”, Badmos said.

Nigerian celebrities Ruggedman, Dr Sid, Simi, Sound Sultan, Korede Bello and ace broadcaster, Sulaiman Aledeh were at the forum.

PoliticsPDP Convention: Jonathan Leads Reconciliation Team, Visits Suleiman, Others by emma321(op): 7:10am On Dec 12, 2017
Former president, Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday, in Abuja, began a move to reconcile aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, following the Saturday’s national convention.

The move by the former President is to douse tension generated among members of the PDP over the outcome of the convention.

Jonathan assembled a team of his loyalists, who according to Punch, would visit aggrieved aspirants with a view to appealling to them to forget about their grievances and work with the Uche Secondus-led members of the National Working Committee.

Those called upon by Jonathan are his former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki (SAN); a former Minister of State for Finance, Amb. Bashir Yuguda; a former Minister of Finance, Nanadi Usman; and King Turner.

The former President, on Monday, led his team to the house of a former Minister of National Planning, Prof. Suleiman Abubakar, in Abuja.

Suleiman had threatened to challenge the outcome of the convention in court, saying his name was technically omitted among those contesting the position of the National Publicity Secretary.

A source at the meeting said the former President asked him to sheathe his sword and let bygones be bygones.

Confirming the visit to Punch, Suleiman said he thanked the former President and promised not to go to court.

He said, “Yes, it was true they visited me. I thanked him for the visit and his compassionate posture, that indeed he is a consummate leader worthy of emulation and that he has indeed inspired me more and I promised I would take to his advice.”

PoliticsIBB Denies Asking Atiku Not To Contest For Presidency by emma321(op): 9:31am On Dec 09, 2017
Former Military Head of State, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, has said he did not discourage former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar, from contesting for the presidency in 2019.

Atiku had visited Babangida on Thursday and both men talked behind closed doors.

According to IBB’s spokesperson, the former leader did not advise Atiku not to run, as that is not his disposition.

“The report is very, very untrue,” Afegbua said.

“When I read the report, I was laughing. Because it is far from what they both discussed.

“Number one, IBB will not discourage anyone from seeking office. IBB will encourage anyone to seek election.

“They had a very useful political discussion. IBB also has a good relationship with Atiku. It’s not good to play politics with the relationship of people.”

Technology MarketGoogle Pulls Youtube From Amazon Devices, Escalating Spat by emma321(op): 5:50am On Dec 06, 2017
A rare public spat in the technology industry escalated on Tuesday when Google said it would block its video streaming application YouTube from two Amazon.com Inc devices and criticized the online retailer for not selling Google hardware.YouTube

The feud is the latest in Silicon Valley to put customers in the crossfire of major competitors. Amazon and Google, which is owned by Alphabet Inc, square off in many areas, from cloud computing and online search, to selling voice-controlled gadgets like the Google Home and Amazon Echo Show.

The stakes are high: many in the technology industry expect that interacting with computers by voice will become widespread, and it is unclear if Amazon, Google or another company will dominate the space. Amazon’s suite of voice-controlled devices has outsold Google’s so far, according to a study by research firm eMarketer from earlier this year.

In a statement, Google said, “Amazon doesn’t carry Google products like Chromecast and Google Home, doesn’t make (its) Prime Video available for Google Cast users, and last month stopped selling some of (our sister company) Nest’s latest products.

“Given this lack of reciprocity, we are no longer supporting YouTube on Echo Show and Fire TV,” Google said. “We hope we can reach an agreement to resolve these issues soon.”

Amazon said in a statement, “Google is setting a disappointing precedent by selectively blocking customer access to an open website.”

It said it hoped to resolve the issue with Google as soon as possible but customers could access YouTube through the internet – not an app – on the devices in the meantime.

The break has been a long time coming. Amazon kicked the Chromecast, Google’s television player, off its retail website in 2015, along with Apple Inc’s TV player. Amazon had explained the move by saying it wanted to avoid confusing customers who might expect its Prime Video service to be available on devices sold by Amazon.

Amazon and Apple mended ties earlier this year when it was announced Prime Video would come to Apple TV. Not so with Google.

In September, Google cut off YouTube from the Amazon Echo Show, which had displayed videos on its touchscreen without video recommendations, channel subscriptions and other features. Amazon later reintroduced YouTube to the device, but the voice commands it added violated the use terms and on Tuesday Google again removed the service.
