Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have besieged the office of the State Independent Electoral Commission. Delta LG Polls

The youths are grounding all activities and protesting alleged manipulation of the results in Onicha-olona ward 5 in Aniocha North Local Government Area with claims that one Mr Chi Emmanuel Oweazim was the actual winner of the councillor-ship position for the same ward.

According to the protesters, the Delta State Electoral Commission allegedly manipulated the results in favour of the PDP after the APC candidate has been declared the winner by the DSIEC officers at the local government level.

They have also called on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to come to their aid and intervene in the situation.

Addressing the protesters on behalf of the commission’s chairman, James Umukoro commissioner for operation gave assurances that their complaints will be looked into

For now, all those who won are yet to be issued certificates of return but relying on the intervention of the Delta State governor.

The Federal Government which through the National Directorate of Employment, NDE, among others, now seems determined to up its efforts at addressing unemployment.

Giving this hint was the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, who explained that President Muhammadu Buhari is poised to achieve significant reduction in unemployment rate in the country through the construction of new skills acquisition centres as well as completion and rehabilitation of abandoned centres.

Ngige spoke during the ground-breaking ceremony of the Federal Specialist Skills Acquisition Centre, FSSAC, in Ifitedunu, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State.

“The good news is that the Federal Government is assiduously working towards achieving a significant and sustained reduction in the high rate of unemployment in the country, within a short and medium time frame, through well-articulated strategies which include the construction of new skills acquisition centres, completion and rehabilitation of abandoned and dilapidated centres across the country.”he said

The FCT Police Command on Wednesday said it arrested 52 members of the the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) group in Abuja.

Its spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, said the group members who went on rampage and attacked innocent citizens including Police operatives.

Manzah said the Command recovered some bottles of improvised petrol-bomb, stones and catapult used by members of the sect to attack police operatives and damage police operational vehicles.

“It is pertinent to state that the unlawful action of members of the sect which started on Monday 8th January, 2018 is constituting a serious security threat to the peace of the Federal Capital Territory and at the same time disrupting innocent citizens from going about their lawful businesses”, he said.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Ahmed Rufai Abubakar as the new Director General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

Abubakar, a retired career foreign service officer, has been a Senior Special Assistant to the President (SSAP) on Foreign Affairs/International Relations.

Abubakar had extensive experience working with the United Nations in peace support operations, mediation process, preventive diplomacy and good offices, as well as the promotion of good governance and respect for the rule of law and human rights.

He also briefly served as Senior Adviser at the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), with headquarters in Ndjamena, Chad, before his appointment as SSAP

An Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered that a 40-year-old pastor, Olakanye Oni, accused of killing a 39-year-old woman, be remanded in prison.

Oni, whose address was not provided at the court, pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder.

The prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the murder suspect committed the offence ‎on or about Dec. 13, 2017 at Ado Ekiti.

He alleged that Oni committed the offence through diabolical means because something strange was found in the private part of the murdered woman.
