Nezzjnr:Lol. Imagine a cucumber plant above 12 weeks and still thriving and fruiting and bringing out new branches. It must be the additional nutrients from these fertlizers especially SSP and mop that is assisting. |
Farmerakinloye6:Look for parthenocarpic variety and the yield might even be more. |
Nezzjnr:I posted about SSP fertlizer on a WhatsApp forum and I was challenged by the owner of the group that it was not relevant to cucumber. I couldn't believe my ears. SSP fertlizer is the foundation for all crops as it has 20% phosphorus, 18% calcium and 11% sulphur. I don't post much as I do formally due to a lot of ignorant folks online who think they know all about farming. We learn everyday. My next cucumber must have 40 fruits by fire by force |
dondo83:I will confirm this week |
dondo83:It's available in the market |
Lokoja price 100kg bags Maize new 19,000 Millet new 22,000 Guineacorn old 28,000 Egusi 100kg lafia type 20,000 |
Nezzjnr:Yes. Very water soluble. Though plants love a combination of nitrate and urea for best results. |
flowmama:It's error. Disregard. SSP fertlizers are not water soluble and are mostly used before transplanting as the phosphate is immobile in soil. It's mostly used by the side dressing method or basal application before the plant is even transplanted. |
Nezzjnr:It depends on the quality of fertlizer. If you use those blended fertlizers mixed with soil, it will block it. Go for water soluble fertlizers like urea, mop, sop, granular npk and also ensure they are from good brands like Tak agro, Notre or Dangote, etc. |
fiddzy:It can be used for fertigation and side dressing Nezzjnr:That 5 tablespoons is about 75g per 16 litres which I consider too high for foliar spraying. Fertigation is safer than foliar spraying for that concentration though not advisable. Go with 1 full tablespoon per 20 litres. |
fiddzy:5g per plant is applying into the soil usually in two weeks interval. If you fertigate, you cannot apply more than 15g per every 20 litres water except you want to burn your crops. 10g per 20 litres water is usually recommended. The difference between fertigation and side dressing is that fertigation is very fast for plant uptake compared to side dressing but it cannot be applied in lump sum as the other guy advised. |
fiddzy:He may not have the answer as I think he has not planted it before. That number is too small in yield for Mydaz except you don't know what you are doing. See this link for modest results from iita open field in the southwest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dr-bbV68W9c I still even have an old Mydaz cucumber and Colombia watermelon plant more than 12/16 weeks old with about 7 upcoming cucumber fruits on it and still even flowering in my compound. I may document my next plants including Diva F1 tomato and Maradona f1 papaya from east west, Mydaz RZ F1 and Colombia RZ f1 |
Farmerakinloye6: fiddzy:No micronutrients. www.farmsquare.ng/shop/maxi-k-soluble-potassium-nitrate-fertilizer-25kg/ Nitrates such as above are more expensive than chlorides MOP 0:0:60 because of the salt content. |
FarmTech:Lambda cyhalothrin should have a longer residual action. It does not have odour that's all but its more potent than the more smelly fumigant organophosphates like chlropyrifos and ddforce. |
Lanjonath:With all the advancement, you still get same result as people using only npk with greengo and jorad? Then why waste your time and money with these extra fertlizers and expensive seed brand? |
jidestroud:From experience, things that can cause watery stool at a tender age include 1. Too much heat in brooder 2. Feed. If the protein content is too high or bad feed or poorly formulated feed or bad batxh 3. Diarrhea, Onset of coccidiosis or cholera due to bad liter management or hygiene or even disease from hatchery. An anticocci/antibiotics like vitacox should do the work. If using organic, I have no idea. |
jidestroud:That should point to diarrhoea/dysentry. What feed/drugs are you administering now? |
jidestroud:What's the age? |
dondo83: |
Olaleyeabdullah:Lokoja is 6000 per bag retail from the sellers. |
Olaleyeabdullah:It's 30ml per 15l sprayer |
zxcvbnmlkjhgfds:In the evening |
zxcvbnmlkjhgfds:Get Renova 5g (Thiamethoxam 25% WG) or Laraforce Gold or even Laraforce (Lambda cyatholin) and use weekly in a row. It should clear all insects from the farm. |
jidestroud:The price is very low. New hope feed is between 7500-7900 for broiler starter. |
abouzaid:This is what cucumbers needs at almost all stages. How do you get this from a blended fertlizer?
|
ideepaul:That's what I did. Mix in the proportion I wanted to use. For example to get a blooming npk version, for every 1g of SSP (0:20:0), I used 0.7g of NPK (20:5:10) and 0.5g of MOP(0:0:60). That's gives 14:25:35 (5:8:12) formula which is very good for tomatoes and pepper family. For cucumbers, I will increase the NPk to 1g giving 20:25:35 (7:8:12) formula. I noticed Mydaz RZ F1 cucumbers and Colombia watermelon could even take up to 45g fertlizer per plant at adulthood without a burn. It's impossible on peppers but manageable with tomatoes. Meaning every plants needs are different. Urea is advised not to be mixed with any other fertlizer before application except you are using it immediately. The only advantage of Urea with the MOPs is the precise formula you can get from the formula as the three fertlizers Urea 46:0:0; SSP 20% 0:20:0 with calcium 18% /Sulphur at 11% and MOP 0:0:60 all have 1 major nutrient. This is easier formulated than using NPk in the formula. |
Nastolly:That size is too much for a beginner. That is what he is saying. |
FarmTech:I bought with agro chemicals like funguforce gold and cabri duo but waybill was 10,000. I bought the tak agro brand of fertlizers outside magnesium sulphate because there are generally very good. |
FarmTech:SSP 50kg N10,500 Mop 0:0:60 50kg N19,150 Magnesium Sulphate 25kg N19,850 I bought from Abuja through htsfarms abouzaid:Where is your location? Most agric ministries will have npk at least or agrodealer around. |
ideepaul:I have not cultivated those cultivars myself but there are debate on their bacterial wilt tolerance. Some farmers argue that there are some resistance to bacterial wilt because when planted with the local variety, the locals all wilted when these other hybrids were not affected in the height of the rainy season. What I know is that most hybrids that are very tolerant have small fruits I learnt from a sakata representative. But there are brands known for true bacterial wilt such as East West and Sakata. |
Lanjonath:You will get 20 average fruits if you follow the right schedule in open field. The fertlization is twice a month with a minimum of 15g-30g fertlizer per plant. We used npk 20:5:10 with zinc as trace, SSP 20%, MOP 0:0:60 and magnesium sulphate. I tested this with my colleagues in 50 growbags in Lokoja at the height of the heat in March/May We mixed the fertlizers according to the stages with a formula for blooming flowers @ 4 weeks after transplanting at npk 20:25:35 with a magnesium sulphate foliar spray of 2grams per litre twice a month. I believe with a shadenet of 50% UV, you will even get more. |
abouzaid:I don't think I have Mydaz cucumber seeds anymore but I will check. If available, I will alert you here. You should a variety in mind. I have programs schedule for Mydaz RZ F1 and there is a crop guide from east west for cucumbers too. The schedule for each variety is different but similar. Mydaz F1 produces average of 20 fruits per plant and can't be compared to other varieties with less than 10 fruits averagely. The fertlization /spray program will definitely be different. |
