So where is the starting point for any of these disciplines. My little research shows that there so many concepts, tools and technologies to learn though the one that stands out is getting comfortable with Linux OS. And some people even assert that DevOps is not an entry level role, they believe that you must have some form of development experience with a touch computer networking to really be useful in the role. Navigating tech can be a hassle!

How did you reach the conclusion the Cybersecurity is the best thing for you? what is your educational background? is what you do now related (Service desk, IP, IT, Network Engineer) to Cybersecurity ? What are your expectations? How long do you plan to learn? Are there any firms you are looking at interning? what would you do if you don't get a job ? do you have backup plans?

If you are doing this for quick money, it would be better you learn graphic design.

Good luck bro.

You are right.

There is no shortcut to success especially in a highly professional field. If you don't have a degree then you better stack up on certifications and be ready to defend whatever skills you have on your resume/CV if you manage to get interviews. The real deal starts when you eventually get the job. Cybersecurity roles are not for the half-baked, not even the more mechanical & less technical ones like vulnerability analyst, compliance officer/analyst, or end user training officer etc. If you are in core blue, purple or red team (malware coders, engineers, pentesters etc) in your organization then you better be well prepared as millions of dollars investment is at stake. However, it's okay to initially target small organizations to gain valuable experience but getting in is still a competition with hundreds of thousands of other Cybersecurity wannabes.

Well said bro. Very well said!

I greet you bro...

I have experience in web design and development, graphic design, digital marketing...

Though, it has been long I did those gigs last because of my business, but now I want to go back into it.
Which one will you advice me to do, since you said they are not entry level jobs.

Note: I will be looking for remote jobs or work on my own only, when I fully gain the necessary experience.
I have a degree in science field but not computer science, I also have a good PC(one with graphics card).
Since you have started before, you can easily revisit the skills. You can get Junior roles depending on your proficiency in these skills.

The Market for web is kinda tight out there, so you need to do more than bare minimum to get your foot in the door.

For graphic design, you can add animation/motion graphics skills, just that this requires huge computational resources. But it's a marketable skill.

Overall, Your skills are entry level friendly but the bar is getting higher by the day and you need to do more than what everyone is doing to beat competition. Good luck bro

You are right by years of experience. Op is only trying to educate not to k!ll the zeel of those that re considering joining the program. Because many thought is extremely difficult field to work with and it's for highly educated fellows.

Your point of view is good. But per my research, Cyber security is one of many that are easy to role in per say you have experience(s) on the field for years.

Interested fellows are adviced to learn I.T and be and expert in order to be outstanding.

One can also be a hacker by not going to school but what he/she learbt from a friend or from YouTube videos.

So Op is right , you too is right.
Thank you very much.

I was just trying to inform the one that asked if he could get a Cybersecurity 'expert' role without a degree. I responded based on my experience discussing with my supervisors (CCIEs) at work.

A lot of these IT stuffs can be learnt online. Even during my university days, bulk of my projects were as a result of knowledge from Indian guys on YouTube. It doesn't have to be a computer science degree, just have a degree (though STEM degree is cute) then you can transition. Organizations are more comfortable when you have a degree than no degree.

'Expertise' comes with relevant 'experience'. Security is a very critical issue that can ruin a company in a blink. I doubt if any established firm can entrust their network to a rookie, only if it's an internship which requires a degree!

This your comment shows you don't know anything about cyber security, by the way do you have a degree in computer science? Let me tell you, don't comment on issues you don't know. Google the name Marcus Hutchins. This is a guru in cyber security without any form of certificate or degree, he is notable for stopping the global ransomware called WannaCry. And it will shock you to know that WannaCry was coded by Ramon Abbas aka Hushpuppi, always research before you comment. Finally I want you to know that the IBM X-force team are hackers without certificate or degree in computer science.

Firstly, Hutchins is an exception, he stopped a global cyber threat which is a feat not any random Joe can achieve and uhm, he completed community college which a form of a higher education.

"... WannaCry was coded by Hushpupi" kindly share your source.

Every member of the IBM Xforce have some form of academic degree. It's apparent that the one that's not up-to-date is you sir.

Lastly, Let me put it this way. I'm not saying you need a degree to be an expert. What I'm saying is, a degree is the bare minimum for any organization to even consider you for a role or trust you with their network. You guys need to stop selling this "you don't need a degree to enter this IT field"

I still stand on the fact the Cybersecurity is NOT an entry-level role. It'll take you years of experience to be an expert.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Monthly Net Salary Of Federal Government Ministries, departaments, Agencies And P by emoboy4u: 10:34am On Jun 11, 2023
DearAminu:
Both the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) are important agencies in their respective fields. However, the advantages of each agency can vary based on individual preferences and career goals. Here are some general points to consider:

NDLEA:
- Working Atmosphere: NDLEA offers an environment focused on combating drug trafficking and drug-related crimes. It can be a challenging but rewarding field for those passionate about law enforcement and public safety.
- Salary and Benefits: NDLEA provides competitive salary packages and benefits, including allowances and bonuses. The exact details may vary based on the specific job position and level within the agency.
- Career Progression: NDLEA offers opportunities for career growth and advancement, with the potential to rise through the ranks based on performance, experience, and additional training.
- Job Security: Due to the agency's importance in combating drug-related crimes, job security can be relatively stable within NDLEA.

UBEC:
- Working Atmosphere: UBEC focuses on promoting and improving basic education in Nigeria. It offers a work environment dedicated to educational development and policy implementation.
- Salary and Benefits: UBEC offers competitive salary packages and benefits. The remuneration may depend on the job position, qualifications, and years of experience.
- Career Progression: UBEC provides career advancement opportunities within the education sector. Professionals can progress in their careers through promotions and by gaining additional qualifications or specialized skills.
- Job Security: Given the ongoing importance of basic education, there is generally a level of job security within UBEC.

It's important to note that specific details regarding salary, allowances, bonuses, and career progression may vary based on factors such as job position, years of service, and government policies. It is advisable for your friend to research further, review the official websites of both agencies, and consider personal aspirations and interests before making a decision. Additionally, seeking advice from professionals or individuals currently working in these agencies can provide valuable insights.

Ultimately, choosing between NDLEA and UBEC should align with your friend's career aspirations, passion, and long-term goals.

Career / Re: Is Nanoca Ltd Recruitment A Scam by emoboy4u: 12:07am On Jun 11, 2023
urose93:
Please guys, my younger brother has been hunting for an online job.
He got an offer three day ago from NANOCA LTD, with office address purported to be at Tower Hill, London EC3N 4SG, United Kingdom.

He was interviewed through WhatsApp messages and voice notes and was said to be selected.
What actually confuse him is that this company appears to have no online presence as every effort to search for it online proves nothing.
Also, the appointment contract sent for him to sign came with a renumeration (salary) that seems too good be true for a position of a Sales Representative, about $3000 monthly.

Additional, he was expected to use his naira account only to fill the data in the 'new employee form'. What bothers us is to why a naira account is needed as an employee in an acclaimed UK firm.

He is unemployed and sceptical not to missed this opportunity in case it's legit.
He is a novice when it comes to online work but was introduced recently by his friends to LinkedIn app to search for jobs.
I told him that the possibility of it being a scam job is close to 100percent. But he need more views since he feels am more of a 'carpenter' than an online job seeker.
So please, our online job gurus in the house, is it how it is done? How true could this offer be? Will like to post the contract agreement and new employee form here too. Thanks

If its too good to be true, it is.

This generation do not save money. Believe me
I don't know you or your experience but I need to ask if you have worked in Lagos before? Earning 100k - 150k at a job located on the Island and one has to commute from Bariga daily? When you deduct rent, transport, utility bills, feeding, family, clothes from that pay, how much can one save ? 20k a month? Thats 240k a year. How do one pay for certifications when some certifications with discount sef are around $250.
How long will it take to save a million?

I use to think that way too until I got there myself.
