Man, you have to be realistic. Mental illness is an illness. Just like other illnesses, there are various contributing factors. There's the phenotypic and genotypic components. Genes. Environment. Different things. Organ specific or not. Don't just attribute them to smoking weed. Some people have mental illness running in their families. Some people have the genetic predisposition. Just because they decide to take weed doenst mean the wee ab initio caused their illness. Hell we know some people who never smoke still die of Ca lungs. We know some who don't drink but still have hepatocellular Ca. Some illnesses manifesting can have stress is a triggal.
Stop giving me all these crap about weed damaging people. That's just giving you dog a bad name to hang it.
There are worse thing than smoking weed. First is by asking yourself in you're in a position to judge people.

If I understand him well, he is saying that possessing marijuana shouldn't be treated as a criminal offense and that people found with the substance shouldn't be locked up with persons who commit more severe offenses and that cultivation and use should be allowed in certain cases/places.

There is some sense there but there are also potential negative implications.
We have a lot of crazy people already...the decriminalisation will increase that number since many people will use it and damn the punishments since such punishments will not be as severe as before.
But wait o, despite the illegality, 14% (about 25million) Nigerians still found a way to smoke it? Na wa for naija o.

Well...I have a feeling that it will eventually be decriminalised but not anytime soon.

We cannot allude the level of craziness displayed by some people to the supposed consumption of cannabis without verifiable facts. Cannabis is still the only recreational drug not to have killed someone from 'overdose'. Methinks the government should extend the blanket cover to cigarettes, alcohol, etc which have proven deleterious effects instead of cannabis.
