In Nigeria? You are a dreamer. Please give me one product or example that has followed this path you outlined. Nigeria economics is jungle economics. It is by far different from what you read in your books at school, I can't even explain it.

This move only harms the legit businesses that pay duty to government. The smugglers will continue to smuggle at a higher price.

Our country singlehandedly caused this problem over the years and trust Nigerians, blessed with selective amnesia, to act like we don't know where the problem is coming from.

The real question is, why do importers prefer to bring in goods via Contonou ports than Nigerian ports? When you begin to answer this question with a rational mind, you will realise the foolery that is Nigeria.
importers prefer bringing goods through land border when importing from west Africa because it's faster than sea. Also locations to the sea matters. You won't expect someone importing goods from Burkina Faso or Mali to bring it to Cotonuo port before taking it to Lagos and the destination is kano.

Just a matter of time, no pain no gain.
Prices would go down with time with increased local production
since you are born has price ever come down in Nigeria? Remember that your budget next year is 7.5% and #30k minimum wage. If you are an economist you will know what is ahead of your country

Let them hike the prices up and get richer, it still encourages local farmers and producers to produce more because they too make more profit than before, more people go into production and farming. With time, supply grows more than demand and those smugglers would see no incentive continuing and the Nigerian people and government win finally.
Those smugglers may even start smuggling our local rice into other countries then seeing that ours is far cheaper then.
then salary earners and pensioners should go and die because of high prices?

This is a lie...it is a partial closure. If your business is legit..your goods will pass after paying your duty in FULL
I hope after reading the link you will find time to go to any land border to confirm for your self and see spoilt and stranded goods at the border. For your information, smugglers are still having their way at the border but this closure only affects those doing legit work. Please confirm before you argue

don't worry by January next year if these borders are not opened you guys in the city will feel the heat of border closure. Go and ask those who buy cars before the ban of tokubo cars on land border. They will tell you how cars are expensive. Now you close border. By next year bag of rice would be #30k, cooking oil Gerry can #18k. 7.5% VAT. Just remember this

Before you start insulting me...I hope you are aware it was a partial closure... and it is open for those doing legitimate business.
please don't say what you don't know. No goods is allowed to go in and out of Nigeria through the land border. My clients is in life support because his ginger worth #24m has gotten spoilt. Please crest time to come to border to see spoilt and stranded goods at Seme border alone 743 trucks loaded with dutiable goods are perishing. The duty of these goods worth millions had been paid to government. Don't worry by January next year if these borders are not opened you guys in the city will feel the heat. Now its only the importers and exporters and agents are feeling the heat.

But since 2017 December the custom had ban the importation of cars through the land border. So where is this coming from? He said government needs money yet you closed the border and lied that the agency realised 9.2Billion a day with border closure. So those who used to import through the land border moved their goods to the sea port within month?

This is a good development. China did this and see the benefit now.

We should not only close the borders but block importation channels as well.

How I wish we can also stop politians from health tourism as well. Unfortunately that can't be done as the Constitution won't allow for that.
and the constitution allows border closure?

Knowledge is key. The boarder closure is not total but partial and targeted at smugglers and importers of prohibited items. People still travel and legitimate business people still move across borders. Closing it 100% to hear man movement will be against the ECOWAS spirit.
but goods are not allowed to move.https://lm.?u=http%3A%2F%2Fopr.news%2F220fcf37190923en_ng%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR2EguAGEYF8wsJPa6BHnhs-lJaSVDCCjbovQicqSmWaSvcVrk-1AKA3kfY&h=AT10DkgEhk4mRuBThDDiMPBYodt3Hb5z3_1dUbIpwEBAFcAYs16XUWl6F5N6sWgKOGQTmZiH1w5yMFWJQjtI8qPir9NdB-s_FR3FwB9hB5v69f3f7PL21VQn5XEgR0BJjB5xX4luPoGwC98n4C1l1HbeuvVSENQ0HSI8xsQHLEPa1DgRuC9jXTUmb2fEOoLZfHqknj9uXHeMC72Xb8NGBFM_juxFKCFyHuuKKZuYoYXhDDhM0z7GXoxbPwsGF9LeJ3LypPVcvNuqpaomWHOcFLbNhddCA2mboGzkdfER_LB9OMPpcdJwr9WPbLldn-fg8zfNCuvl9HkbDe8xjratxutOfonES_-53BFX3XDSJnMk9eXyfAv2cldhO2JMgYqqiSBgLIwRWXiTsQ-1HWKn0Z3hnfwZXbv_pXK9PeCcnosZR95ek823yWayoaw2ukLghsDuMgQff14F0qOYpBW56MFYBh99whMx5HkPRU0k2lM6FNK6HXl6_KytA4xcsFzU1wHhMA_hG2ncObWmzTLaP3U86fCJWi5PSqxUbI3Gczy88MsUJy_OJdqrAsVT2dK4sHR2yarHkbsMkW_mQm4SCO2fGnzvYRsLH4aFB-dGiRbL-hVE-JDWw9rLxw

Well done Senate
do you think its only smuggled goods that pass the border? Their are ECOWAS goods that move from and to Nigeria such as our building iron, water tanks, electrical wires, Dunlop slippers, shoes all these and many more move to West Africa through the border while goods like hot drinks, coconut, marble, and other ECOWAS goods move into our country through the border. Now these goods had been at the border since over a month. Do you know that billions had been lost by the importers and exporters of these goods because many borrowed money to do this business after paying millions for duty. I beg many people are bankrupt because of this. Will government compensate them?

The building of the temple as contained in 2 Chronicles 3-6. Yes, there was an exquisite image of theCherubim and Seraphim. But was there ever a mention of these images being bowed down to?

And in case you want to talk about the serpent and the ark that the Israelites of the Old Testament bowed down to, let's not forget that was a time that the children of God didn't have direct access to God... a time when they still offered burnt offerings. Moreover, they were clearly walking by God's instructions... those times when God still spoke to His people in audible voice. Did God in the same manner ask that images of Mary be put up? Did God ask that Mary be worshipped as the Catholic church does? My dictionary defines "worship" as "The devotion accorded to a deity or to a sacred object." Keyword is devotion... and Catholics are devoted in their reverence of Mary. Catholics offer prayers through saints... I saw one the other day, Olivia of Palermo. Why would you ask a dead person to intercede for you? Only Jesus Christ lives forever... and He alone is the way.

I hope I'm not sounding argumentative. I'm only seeking to understand.
in Christ no one is dead. When the righteous dies he lives for ever with Christ . in rev 5:8 you will see how john saw the revelation of the saints praying for the people.

Matthew 6:7 "But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they. shall be heard for their much speaking." The incantations I was talking about are all those "Hail Marys" "Acts of Contritions" etc. Aren't those repetitions?
I downloaded the Catechism Book once... man, wasn't it confusing? Catholicism is saddled with so many complexities. Christianity shouldn't be that doctrinal, don't you think?

On my own, I can't understand it... I may understand and embrace confessions today because I find the biblical standing, but the rest? I continue to see perversions. The bible clearly says "do not make for yourself any graven image," "do not bow down before any graven image." Catholics have chosen to add a "but" to those commandments. To contravene and offer up justifications.

I guess when the time comes... if there's a truth I need to come to terms with, the Holy spirit would have to help me out personally.
but the ark of covenant the Israelites cherished was made by man under the instruction of God. Even the serpent statue was created by moses under Gods command. Remember what serpent did to Adam yet god still use its image to heal his people. In summary the images God talked about was things that I affect your love or relationship with God. Example loving money more than yourself or jewelry or making any thing important to you than God. Your thinking about Catholic worship of images is like when Christ said he will destroy the temple and in 3 days he will build it back. If the bible had not said he meant his body we all would have been reasoning like the Jews who said he took them 40 years to build.

Someone explained the confession part and it made sense... what about the images worshippers bow down to... the heightened reverence of Mary... the numerous chants and incantations... the penance system...?
lol images in the church. Catholic don't worship any image or Mary. Moses erected a serpent statue when the Israelites were beaten by snakes, moses raised the ark of God and the people bowed down and worship but are we going to say they are contradicting God's commandments? This images makes the Catholics to believe that Christ died on the cross and also the aspire to be like the saints in the statue like st Anthony, virgin Mary etc. It's just like keeping an old photo of our old loved ones in our house. Does it mean we worship them?
Penance is outward sign of inward grace ordained by Jesus Christ. Christ told his apostle "receive the holy spirit* which means they were ordained a *rev fr* then he continued * whose sin you forgive they are forgiven and whose sin you retain they are retained* he did this when only the 11 minus Judas were around. No matter the confession you make to a rev fr he can never talk about it in the open or discuss it with you again.
Incantation ? Which one is that? Mathew 12: 39-44 Jesus repeated this payer 3 times. Also this angelic song *holy holy holy* is a repeated song but Jesus only talked about the gentiles way of prayer Mathew 6:7.

I'm more concerned about what the bible says... I'm actually trying to be open minded for the first time because there's a guy in my space, and I'm looking at him with four eyes because he's such a staunch Catholic.... wondering if I can marry him. Marrying means a possibility of converting, which isn't very settling.
I can help you to explain every thing you need to know about the church then its now left for you to agree or not. Yes I will be happy if you know more about the church before you say "I do" so that it won't look as if you are forced to convert which is what the church is against. To by force someone to convert
