I have been following Dis post as a guess but i was overwhelmed by the wisdom of Sal C and the ignorance of Ukuts or whatever that i had to verify my forgotten password to log in. Indeed, being wise is not mandatory,it is only a foolish man who will completely refuse to be swayed by the wisdom of the wise. Ukuts,u can head to your mushroom church with your hankies, envelopes, olive oil and sand. Its not compulsory to believe the truth buy one advice for you is 'make sure of urself before u argue'. U were totally floored by Sal C. He answered all your questions biblically while you couldnt answer any of his. The few you tried to answer were not biblical but merely your opinions. Thanks and Happy new month to all Catholics and Protestants here. |
Obiano wins Anambra governorship election DECEMBER 1, 2013 BY EMMANUEL OBE 80 Comments Mr. Willie Obiano The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Mr. Willie Obiano, has been declared the winner in the Anambra State governorship election. Obiano scored 180,178 to beat the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Mr. Tony Nwoye, to the second position with 97,700 votes and Senator Chris Ngige of the All Progressives Congress, who came third with 95,963. The Labour Party candidate, Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah, came fourth with 37,495. The formal declaration was made by the Chief Returning Officer, Prof. James Epoke, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar around 1 am on Sunday. The declaration of the winner brought to an end a long-running and controversial process of electing a new governor for Anambra State. The entire process of electing the new governor was dogged by controversy as three of the major political parties that fielded candidates called for its cancellation and vowed to boycott the supplementary election. The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, who admitted the errors committed in the election, apologised to the nation but said the errors were not substantial enough to warrant the cancellation of the entire exercise. The supplementary election was eventually held on Saturday but was characterised by low turnout. The Agbaja Polling Unit 22 in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area, which has a voting population of 739, for instance, had only 24 candidates accredited and 20 of them voting in the supplementary election. The main election, which held on November 16, could not be concluded on the same day and INEC announced that election in 65 polling units in Obosi ward in Idemili North Local Government Area would be repeated. The Chief Returning Officer said the voting population in the areas where election did not take place was large enough to make the second or third person defeat the leading candidate. He, therefore, declared the election inconclusive. Following the development, INEC declared that supplementary election would in 210 polling units, where 113,113 voters could not vote on November 16. The areas affected cut across 15 local government areas and most of them (160)were in Idemili North. Epoke said the Electoral Act required that for a winner to be declared in an election, the difference in the total voting population of the areas where election was cancelled should be less than the difference between the votes scored by the candidate with the highest votes and the votes of the candidate with the second highest votes. The returning officer had reported that the total voting population in the areas where election was cancelled was 113,113, which was higher than the 79,754 difference between the leading candidate’s votes and the second highest candidate’s votes, saying the commission had no choice but to declare the election inconclusive. “The rule guiding this election is that for a winner to emerge, he must have majority of votes cast and the required spread of 25 per cent of votes in two thirds of the local government areas. “We observed that due to many reasons, there were a lot of cancelled votes that made it difficult for a winner to emerge,” Epoke said. He said the winner of the election would be declared only after election has been conducted in areas where the election was cancelled. In declaring Obiano winner, Epoke said the APGA candidate did not only win the majority of the votes cast, but also fulfilled the requirement that the winner should score 25 per cent of the total votes cast in two thirds of the local governments in the state, in Anambra’s case 14 local government areas. Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission Resident Commissioner in Rivers State, Mr Aniedi Ikoiwak, has commended the people of Anambra for coming out to vote in Saturday’s supplementary governorship election. The electoral commissioner, who supervised the election in Onitsha South and Onitsha North council areas, spoke at Okija hall, where voting took place in four polling units. “The important thing here is that for so many places where I have visited, the party agents were there, especially those of the major parties. “It is a clear indication that there had not been any boycott of the election by any of the parties. “The people were interested in completing this exercise so that at the end of the day, their governor would be announced to them,’’ he said. Ikoiwak said NEC directed its poll officers to display the Form 60E on the day of the exercise, which would show that the election had been completed peacefully. “You cannot display that form if you do not have a conducive environment. “And that form would display the result in each unit for members of the public to copy and know what happened in the unit,’’ he said. |

bayode1979: You are a big liar. Obiano will surely loose. Watchout. What makes him a liar? The affected areas has about 80 thousand voters and Mr Willie is ahead of his closest opponent wit about 70 thousand(+) votes,,What makes you think that a miracle will happen? Mr Willie has won the election.INEC just doesnt want to be involved in a controversy hence the declaration of the election being inconclusive. |
Feraz: That is what I'm saying. Did they go to the South-East and were chased back by the people resident there? Did they put up structures there and it was torn down by the people there? Have they lived or pitched their tents there and were treated as people that aren't worthy of being called humans instead of Nigerians? Most of them haven't crossed the Niger river yet they say we're backward because their candidate they so want to win didn't win even when official results haven't been released. They use the Igbo tribalists on Nairaland to judge the South-East when most haven't experienced any wicked thing there. Ngige won the senatorial seat despite him being in another party and people knowing what transpired back in 2003 yet they say Anambranians vote party. This same party they allowed grow into what it is today. When we talk, we should talk objectively. |
van-helsing2099:good for tabling an apology,,if that is ur reason for calling Igbos tribalists, then you really amazed me negatively |
Obodo999: Stupid and pointless topic. No big deal . I have 3 children. Millions of babies are born every week. Perhaps most of them will be slaves to this potential spoilt brat. Why are you people celebrating inequalities in this world ?you sound pained..but how can a three day old child be a spoilt brat already, stop assuming carelessly please. If u hate his royalty, then dont comment. |
esmeralda1: frosbel:i really think that u are the one who needs prayers..the holy thou attitude which u and ur protestant brothers display will only lead you to hell while the humble catholics and the jehova witness that u take to be sinners makkes heaven or paradise |
Mercy Johnson is a well known Nollywood star in Nigeria, nay Africa. After taking a break from the klieg lights to get married and have her baby, she’s now ready for a new project – the Mercy Johnson Foundation. Last Friday, Sunday Sun caught up with Mercy Johnson at the Boys Correctional Center, Oregun, Lagos, where she went to speak to the boys and donate some gifts. She spoke briefly about motherhood and living beyond the moment. Samuel Olatunji recorded this excerpts… You were at OJB’s house to see him and donate money, now you are here to donate to the Boys Reform Home in Lagos. What’s the idea? No idea, we are just promoting the ideals of Mercy Johnson Foundation. The idea is to identify the needs, evaluate and help in our own little way. All fingers are not equal; those in position to help should do so without hesitation. You will be hearing a lot about Mercy Johnson Foundation from now on. We have put our house in order and now ready to help those we can. I strongly believe that as stars we should live beyond the euphoria of stardom and the moment. We will not always be here, what happens if you look back and realise you could do a lot to make the world better when you had the spotlight and you didn’t? I want to live beyond the moment. Why the reform homes in Lagos? I know I’m not glamorous to a lot of people, but we must know that if we do charitable things for publicity alone, we defeat the purpose. We need to find ways to reform young boys and girls otherwise they will make life uncomfortable for the children of the privileged. At this point, I must commend the government of Lagos State for making efforts at reforming the kids. We are looking at what we can do with the state to help make the future of these children better. Motherhood seems to have changed you… Yes, motherhood changes women. You begin to see yourself as a co-creator. You begin to see yourself as a protector. Few days ago, I was feeding Purity and she started dragging the bottle with me with the hot water in it. She pushed the bottle, I had to quickly push her away from the water and let it pour on my arm instead. That’s the kind of protection I am talking about. I think it will also make you feel more responsible for other children as well. You begin to see them as children of some other mothers. You have a sense of responsibility to want to protect them as well. How are you coping with your husband and the baby? There’s nothing like coping, he’s making my job easier. He dots on her. He carries her, feeds and does everything for her such that she misses him when he’s not around. You won’t believe she sleeps on his chest every night. He understands whatever adjustment I need to make when it comes to the baby. He’s a loving father? What about being a loving husband? Come on now, you know that Sam. He’s the best thing that happened to me. People usually say men are not reliable, in the case of my husband he’s a blessing. It’s obvious we are his priority. So, your step of faith is paying off? Yes. I am not saying its perfect, but this is close to perfection. If this is what it feels to be married, I want to marry my husband again and again. How come you took a break and still returned as number one in Nollywood? There’s nothing like number one in Nollywood. We are all doing our jobs; it’s just that some people are busier than others. I’m glad of what God has given me. What should we expect from you career-wise? I’m trying to be more selective with what I do. If the script is not good, I don’t want to do it. Our market is getting core aware and advanced as the day goes by. How come you are not an ambassador of any brand yet? We are having discussion with a couple of brands, when we agree with the terms, you will hear from us. However, I need to quickly point out that Mercy Johnson is a blend of youth and family brand. We just can’t stand and represent any brand. If it’s not representing the youths, which is our major consistency or the family, we will not be favourably disposed to it. I can’t at this point be ‘hawking’ cleavages in the name of promoting brand. Things have changed; this is the beginning of a new era for me. |
Nnamdi Azikiwe and Obafemi Awolowo are both reverred figures in the Nigerian nation, but a question readily comes to mind when these two influential names are called. That question is 'Where they FRIENDS as they fought for the nations liberation or FOES?' |
omeleman: Andy Uba is the vote for him........check out that grammar Bro, looks tiresome |
if soludo should contest, then i personally would prefer him above others |
