If you are already thinking about what to do after your spouse is done with his or her study, you may want to read or ask me questions on the thread: https://www.nairaland.com/5215417/studying-uk-what-happens-afterwards
Travel / If You Are Studying In The Uk.. What Happens Afterwards? by EndtimeBlessing: 3:05am On May 30, 2019
--This is sequel to my 2015 nairaland post on Tier 2 Visa https://www.nairaland.com/2436677/what-need-know-uk-tier

Congratulations you have a UK tier 4 Visa. One question most people ask is what happens afterwards?
These are some of the available options:
1) Progress to study at a higher level or the same level
2) Change to a Tier 2 Visa and gain work experience in the UK
3) Return to Nigeria after your studies
4) Find your way to other countries like Canada or Australia

If you are planning to progress to study at a higher level or the same level
This is an option if you like to:
i. Have a higher degree like Masters or Phd.
ii. Remain in the UK and have more time to plan your next move.
iii. Gain some work experience if you were fortunate to have a professional job while undertaking your first UK study.
iv. Save some money or build your credit. This works best if you have a spouse/dependent with an unlimited work right term Visa.
Whichever is your case, early planning is key. Start planning long before your current Visa runs out.

If options ii to iv is your target, you should be interested in courses and schools with low tuition fees. You should also be targeting courses with longer duration in other to have enough time to recuperate whatever you have spent on tuition.

From personal experience, securing that second or third admission for the next course is never an issue. In most cases, paying the initial deposit may not also be the biggest issue. The biggest issue is often where to get the leaving expenses money that should be in your account. In other to solve this, ensure you keep your Nigerian bank account and your source of fund that was used for your proof of fund when you initially got your CAS and Visa.

Remember, the longer you stay in the system, the more you will understand the system and brighten your chances of leaving outside Nigeria legitimately. I will be writing about the other options going forward.

I didn’t think an understanding of this topic was a big deal until I met a girl who was denied visa because she didn’t advice her father very well on how much should be in the father's bank account.

On this thread, just specify how much your first-year school fees is (£), how much you have paid (£), and where you intended studying and I will check with you on the naira equivalent of how much should be in your bank account or your sponsor's bank account.

ASPIREX:
A little background to aid your objectivity.....
I am a 47 year old Nigerian with a 43 year old wife. Married 13 years. Three kids; 12, 9 and 6.

I have a degree in humanities while she has a HND in Admin.

We are both involved in hustling in Lagos, Nigeria. The hustle hasn't paid off big time yet but we get by with about 3- 5 Mill earnings annually. We used to do much more than that until 3 years ago.

I have had significant international exposure having lived in UK as a child and also bisited all continents in the last 5 years.

Having lived abroad (the UK initially and now the US) for like 10 years, I will tell you the following:
1) Age is not on your side - The younger the better in other to build a professional career. Also to qualify for legitimate immigration programme, the younger the better.
2) Don't be discouraged, try all possible means to make it to Canada (Provincial nominee, education, e.t.c).
3) Wherever you decide to go, never leave your family behind. As a matter of fact, those that will reap the main reward of your relocation are those children - (each time you feel discouraged, seeing how well your children are doing, will give you joy).
4) You can still make it abroad if you build a career that you can function at even in your old age.
5) If you make it reasonably abroad, investing in Nigeria will become a breeze and you will enjoy Nigeria if you later decide to relocate back when your children are settled into adulthood.

Sports / Three Different Nigerians Hold The 100m Sprint Records For Africa, Asia And Euro by EndtimeBlessing: 9:59pm On Aug 14, 2016
Three different Nigerian-born track champions are the fastest men for Africa, Asia and Europe.
That’s right—one country on one continent has three different athletes representing three different continents. How to explain this? You can blame a badly-run sports administration and a scarcity of resources needed to keep finely-tuned athletes at the top level. And, of course, personal ambition is also a factor.
Take the case of the European record holder, Francis Obikwelu, 36, who left his homeland as a teenager and settled in Portugal. He continued to represent Nigeria until 2001. The circumstances that led him to switch nationality were unfortunate. After he suffered a career-threatening injury at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the Athletics Federation of Nigerian abandoned the star in his hour of need. Not only had he to foot the medical bills himself but he also spent a few months in hospital recuperating after surgery complications led to a blood clot. A year later he became a naturalized Portuguese citizen. His silver medal performance at the 2004 Athens Olympics was his career best, as he set a European record of 9.86 seconds. The record is still standing.
Asia’s fastest man is Femi Ogunode, 24. He has said the move to become a Qatari national in 2010 was a calculated risk that paid off. He alleges nepotism and corruption in Nigerian athletics. Last year, he set a career best of 9.93 seconds at the Asian Games. This April he ran a few seconds faster to set the Asian record of 9.91 seconds at the Asian Athletics Championships.

The one who stayed is sprint master Olusoji Fasuba, 30, whose 9.85 second record is yet to be broken since 2006. This was one hundredth of a second better than the old record of 9.86 seconds that was set by Namibian track and field legend Frankie Fredericks a decade earlier. Fasuba is currently the ninth fastest 100m runner ever with a time below the 10-second mark.
It’s becoming something of a more frequent narrative for African athletes to leave their home countries and switch nationalities after facing perennial frustrations with how their local sports bodies are managed. Career civil servants with no sporting background bungle the administration of the sport by turning them into citadels of corruption and inefficiency.
In 2011, the African 100m record holder, Fasuba, predicted African sprinters will continue to be underachievers unless they get proper training facilities and adequate remuneration. As a result well-funded athletic bodies from rich countries eager to be competitive and boost their national pride by any means necessary exploit the situation by coming to lure Africa’s young talent.
An African problem

While several European countries and the US have taken African athletes, Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates have been more aggressively pursuing talent from the continent in the past decade.
Last year there was a somewhat farcical scenario at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, when 14 of the 22 individual running events were won by athletes of African origin who had switched nationality. China’s Su Bingtian, who came second to Ogunode at last year’s Asian Games, told AFP that the Gulf states’ African contingent is “unfair”, because “they are taller and have a longer stride,” meaning Asian-born athletes are at a physical disadvantage.
Nationality transfers by African athletes are not just limited to Asiatic countries; Europe and the US are some of the biggest beneficiaries. Star athletes from Ethiopia, Kenya, and Morocco have mostly gone to represent Nordic countries such as Finland, Denmark and Sweden.
While African countries are busy exporting talent elsewhere, they have no means to keep young talent or attract foreign-based athletes to return.

I feel for you my dear. Unfortunately, that is the Nigeria you were born into, It is the Nigeria that has been existing for a long time, It is the Nigeria that is frustrating some of the best brains this country has out of the country and the sad thing is that it is the Nigeria that some people think it is worth preserving. But I tell you, this Nigeria that is built on injustice which law enforcement system is sustained through injustice is going nowhere and will arrive nowhere until its foundation is relayed on justice.

As for you, I pray God will heal your heart, and for your abusers, the vengeance of God will visit them.

I was once a victim of Police corruption too.
