I need someone to tutor me on cancer because I genuinely don’t understand this.

Ogogo was at Ojude Oba on June 1, less than three months ago. He looked healthy, energetic and full of life. Today, he is gone after battling stage 4 cancer.
Can cancer really progress this rapidly, or can someone look completely healthy while already having advanced cancer? How does something this devastating happen in such a short time?

When Did ‘Pay Your Tithe’ Enter the Catholic Church? We are gradually Pentecostalizing the Catholic Church

Look closely at this picture “OFFERTORY AND TITHE ACCOUNT.” This raises a serious question: Are we quietly importing Pentecostal practices into Catholicism?

The Catholic Church has always encouraged the faithful to support the Church, her mission, the poor, evangelization, and parish projects through freewill offerings and donations. But “tithing” as a religious obligation is not the standard language or universal practice of the Catholic Church.

Yet, in some Nigerian Catholic parishes today, we are beginning to see “tithe Sundays,” designated tithe accounts, and even special blessings for tithers.

Why?

Perhaps because some Catholics who feel guilty about not paying tithes now pay them in Pentecostal churches, and some priests, seeing this trend, have adopted tithing into Catholic parishes in order to receive those tithes.

I am a Catholic priest, and I was never taught during my formation that the Catholic faithful must have a “tithe Sunday” or that a priest should organize special blessings specifically for those who pay tithes. This is not a universal Catholic standard binding on every parish.

Let us give generously, let us support the Church, let us care for the poor and sustain the mission of Christ.

But above all, let our giving flow from love, faith, gratitude, and freedom, not fear, pressure, competition, or the expectation of buying God's favor.

To the Claretians, this is not meant as an attack, but as a sincere fraternal observation. If a Catholic institution publicly displays “Offertory and Tithe Account” with an account number, it is understandable that Catholics may begin to wonder whether tithing is now being presented as an official Catholic obligation.

Perhaps it would be worth reconsidering the terminology. If the intention is simply to encourage the faithful to support the Church, the mission, the poor, and evangelization, terms such as “Offertory,” “Church Support,” “Mission Fund,” “Charity,” or “Parish Development” may communicate the Catholic understanding of giving more clearly.

The Church should certainly encourage generosity, but we must also be careful about what our words and public notices teach the faithful.

Let us encourage Catholics to give generously without making them feel that God is waiting for their 10% before He can bless them. Let us build a culture of generosity without turning the Catholic offertory into a tithe system.

And for you Catholics, let no one pressure you into paying tithes. You are not obliged to do so. If you attend Mass and they invite tithers to come forward to give their tithes and receive a special blessing, and you do not have anything to give, simply remain peacefully in your seat. The Holy Mass you have attended already carries the greatest blessing.

When you have the means, support the Church’s mission. When you do not, do not worry yourself or feel guilty. The Church is open and welcoming to everyone, regardless of their financial situation.

Remember, tithing is not a Catholic obligation. Give when you can, give freely, and give from the heart, not out of fear, pressure, or the expectation of receiving a special blessing.

Age — cancer risk generally increases as people get older.

Alcohol consumption — increases the risk of several cancers.
Certain infections — including HPV, hepatitis B and C, and H. pylori.

That statement is too sweeping. Nigerians are under serious financial pressure, but saying “nobody can afford DStv again” is not supported by the data.

The numbers don’t support that argument.

Yes, Nigerians are struggling, and entertainment subscriptions are one of the first things many households cut when disposable income gets tight. MultiChoice itself reported that its Rest of Africa subscriber base fell from 9.3 million in FY2023 to 7.5 million in FY2025, with Nigeria accounting for 77% of the losses. Inflation, fuel costs, power problems and weaker consumer spending were major factors.

But saying “Nigerians are so poor that nobody can afford DStv” is simply not accurate. Nigeria still has millions of households paying for DStv and GOtv, including customers on mass-market packages. MultiChoice reported 7.5 million active Rest-of-Africa subscribers in FY2025, with 69% of that base in the mass-market segment.

The bigger issue is affordability and priorities, not that Nigerians have suddenly become incapable of paying for entertainment.

And the regional picture matters. The World Bank, using the 2018/19 NBS Living Standards Survey, found poverty at 57.9% across the North compared with 20.3% across the South. So purchasing power is clearly not evenly distributed across Nigeria.

There is also no credible current statistic showing exactly what percentage of Nigerians can “afford DStv” by geopolitical zone. Anyone giving you figures like “40% in the South and 10% in the North” without a proper survey is basically making them up.

What we can say from the available data is that affordability is significantly stronger in the South than the North, while urban households—particularly in economically stronger states—are much more likely to maintain discretionary subscriptions.

So yes, the cost-of-living crisis is hurting DStv badly. But “Nigerians only care about cheap entertainment” is more of an emotional conclusion than a statistical one. People are simply prioritising food, rent, transport, electricity and other essentials before entertainment.

Working Theory: Why the FBI is still locking down the Tinubu files after 33 years

The FBI is fighting to keep parts of the 1990s investigative file on Bola Tinubu sealed under FOIA Exemption 7(F) — claiming release could “endanger the life or physical safety of any individual.”

Thirty-three years later. That claim only holds if something in those records is still dangerous today.

Here’s the cleanest theory that fits every known fact:

In the late 1980s–early 1990s, a Nigerian-run network was moving **high-purity Southeast Asian white heroin** (“China White”) from the Golden Triangle — primarily sourced and staged in **Bangkok, Thailand** — into Chicago and northwest Indiana.

Adegboyega Mueez Akande ran the organization. His nephew Abiodun Agbele handled U.S. distribution and sales. Lee Andrew Edwards was a major street-level customer in Gary. Tinubu’s Chicago bank accounts were frozen because investigators believed they held laundered proceeds from the same SEA white-heroin pipeline. Agbele got arrested in 1990 selling to an undercover agent and cooperated. Tinubu was interviewed by phone, made partial admissions about knowing the players and moving money, later contradicted himself, fought the civil case, and settled in 1993 by forfeiting $460,000 with no criminal charges.

The working theory is that Tinubu provided information during that process — enough to walk away without an indictment. The records of that cooperation (or the identities it protected) remain in the file.

That is why the Bureau is still invoking a life-safety risk in 2026.

Look at what happened next. In 1995–1996 the U.S. launched **Operation Global Sea**, the first major effort that took down an entire Nigerian SEA-heroin chain from Bangkok source to Chicago streets. It targeted a sophisticated syndicate based in Bangkok that had been moving hundreds of kilograms of the same high-purity white heroin into the Midwest via Europe, Guatemala, and Mexico. Dozens were arrested in Bangkok, Chicago, New York, Detroit, and Pakistan. The Bangkok-based leader, Musiliu Balogun (aka “Olopa” / “The Policeman”), was charged as a primary supplier from Thailand/Cambodia. He stayed a fugitive until 2006, was extradited, and was sentenced in Chicago in 2013 to nine years.

Other follow-on operations (including elements later rolled into Shadow Towers) kept hitting Nigerian groups still importing SEA white heroin from Bangkok into Chicago and other cities.

Most of the original 1988–1993 players are now dead or neutralized: Akande died in 2024, Edwards years earlier. Balogun served his time and is no longer an active kingpin. But the broader Nigerian transnational networks that controlled the Bangkok-to-Chicago SEA white-heroin pipeline never fully disappeared. Residual associates, family members, or successor cells in Thailand and West Africa still operate in the drug trade. Identifying who cooperated in the original Chicago case — or revealing the exact techniques and sources used against the Bangkok suppliers — could still put people at real risk of retaliation.

That is the only explanation that makes the 33-year “endanger lives” claim coherent. The files are not being blocked over ancient bank records. They are being blocked because someone in them was protected, the protection still matters, and the Southeast Asian white-heroin networks that fed Chicago in the 1990s left behind people and structures with lasting lethal potential.

The public record is silent for a reason. The FOIA fight is the government’s way of keeping it that way.
