The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it was not banning the use of Smartphone around the polling unit areas, but the moment a prospective voter entered voting cubicle to cast his or her vote. The Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, made the declaration in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja. He stated this while reacting to the statement issued by the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, condemning the decision of INEC to ban the use of smart phones at polling booths. Mr Oyekanmi said Nigerians were fully aware of the challenge of vote-buying and selling that reared its ugly head in recent elections. He said that had prompted many stakeholders to call on INEC to devise innovative ways to tackle the problem. “In consultation with other stakeholders, the Commission came up with new measures to solve the problem, one of which is to disallow the use of smart phones and other electronic devices in the voting cubicles on election day. “In other words, INEC is not banning phones around the polling unit area, but the ban takes effect from the moment a prospective voter collects his or her ballot paper and enters into voting cubicle to thumb print and thereafter drop the folded ballot paper into the ballot box. “After that, the voter can have access to his or her phone.” Mr Oyekanmi urged Nigerians to disregard any attempt by any individual or group to politicise what was purely a preventive measure. Mr Secondus had, in a statement by his Media Adviser Ike Abonyi on Tuesday in Abuja, alleged that the decision was to perfect rigging formula for the ruling All Progressives (APC). https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/284353-we-didnt-ban-use-of-phones-around-polling-units-inec.html

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has asked the Nigeria customs service to place Ayodele Fayose, outgoing governor of Ekiti, on its watch list. Fayose, whose tenure ends on October 16, is being investigated by the EFCC for alleged abuse of office, money laundering, among others. In a letter dated September 12, and addressed to the comptroller-general of customs, the EFCC said Fayose may be planning to flee the country. “There is a reasonable suspicion suggesting that he may likely leave the country either through the land borders, airports or seaports in order to evade investigation. Hence, you are kindly requested to watch-list him and arrest him,” read the letter signed by Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the EFCC. In its response, the customs instructed all zonal coordinators, area commanders and comptrollers to monitor Fayose. “Consequently, you are requested to monitor the subject and report to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission through the provided contact details if sighted,” the customs wrote in a letter dated September 14. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost the July 2018 governorship election in Ekiti state. https://newsflash247.com.ng/2018/09/16/place-ayo-fayose-on-watch-list-efcc-tells-customs/ |

Summarily be Senator Abaribe; The Senate will look into the issue raised by Presidency, but they are sure the presidency will still come up with another excuses not to sign the bill into Law. The Senate had always been the one championing the issue of card reader. It is the presidency that should tell Nigeria why it refuses to sign the amendment bill into law. Senator abaribe use Kano 2015 election as example; Card Reader only record 900k plus voter, while the election results record another thing entirely. |
The media space was filled with new all over on controversy concerning the Electoral amendment Bill, so i took my time to listen attentive to thie interview session between Ita Enang and Senator Abaribe on this issue. Nairalander takes time to listen and you will see what is really going on. Part 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xrydp8i8qA |
