The Adamawa state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed its ward congress by 24 hours. This follows protests by stakeholders including former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu and ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal. Chairman of the congress committee, Musa Mahmud, confirmed the postponement after a meeting with some party chieftains. They protested that many candidates were yet to obtain the nomination forms to contest the election. A serving Senator, Abdulaziz Nyako; Abubakar MoAllayidi and Marcus Gundiri, also supported the shifting of congress. Mahmud said the congress had been postponed to 1pm on Sunday. The local government congress will hold next week and states in two weeks time but no date has been fixed for the convention yet. https://www.dailypost.ng/2018/05/05/adamawa-apc-ward-congress-postponed-protests-nuhu-ribadu-babachir-lawal/amp/

Ekiti 2018: Two ex-governors, three ex-senators, others battle for APC ticket. Two former governors and three former senators are among 33 governorship aspirants who will be testing their popularity at Saturday’s primaries of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ekiti State. The journey so far has been rancorous and tension-soaked with the entrance into the fray of bigwigs in the party, such as former governor Segun Oni, who is also the party’s South-west Deputy National Chairman. He started his campaign early and has been consistent. Mr Oni however has another former governor to contend with: Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Kayode Fayemi. Although Mr Fayemi was a late starter in the bid for the ticket, his coming has altered the power balance and greatly tilted the advantage far away from earlier favourites. Babafemi Ojudu, the Political Adviser to the President, is no less popular and has shown himself a crowd puller in the build up to the primaries. A former senator and veteran journalist, Mr Ojudu has appealed to over 2000 delegates that he had what it takes to send the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government out of power. Ayo Arise is a former PDP senator, who now enjoys the cover of the APC. His ambition to be governor was nearly thwarted by his kidnap late last year. His chances on Saturday cannot be wished away. Another aspirant, Gbenga Aluko, is a former member of the Senate. Twice, he had attempted to be governor of the state, but did not succeed. He was the Labour Party candidate in 2007 and in 2014, and also aspired on the platform of the PDP. His sojourn in the APC is bringing him close to the governorship race for the third time. Other prominent contenders for the APC ticket include a former member of the House of Representatives and ex-Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Lagos State, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele; a former member of the House of Representatives, Bamidele Faparusi; a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Femi Bamisile and a former Commissioner for Information, Afunminiyi Afuye. Others include: Wole Oluyede, Bimbo Daramola, Wole Oluleye, Adebayo Orire, Kola Alabi, Kayode Ojo, Muyiwa Olumilua, Victor Kolade, Debo Ajayi, Dele Okeya, Diran Adesua, Sesan Fatoba, Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, Olumuyiwa Coker and Adekunle Esan. There are others like, Dipo Ogunkoyode. Bodunde Adeyanju, Sunday Adebomi, Bisi Aloba, Otunba Yinka Akerele, Charles Dahunsi, Ajayi Olowo, Tosin Olofinluyi and Taye Matesun. As confirmed by the party, 33 aspirants have filled and returned the expression of interest forms making them eligible to contest. The party had earlier received letters of intent from 37 aspirants. The large number of aspirants has been a source of worry to many political observers, but party spokesman in the state, Taiwo Olatumbosun allays fears saying that the number of aspirants ”underpinned the credibility of the APC platform and only fairness and transparency will see the party through the test now before it”. Perhaps, the Ondo experience sounds a clear warning for the party. Over 23 aspirants sought the APC ticket for the Ondo State November 2016 election. The outcome caused division in the party since the winner, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, came into office. A legal battle resulting from the primaries held in September 2016 is yet to be rested, following allegations that the delegates’ list was doctored in favour of the winner. Mr Ojudu, during his declaration of interest in Ado Ekiti, warned his party not to toe the line of the Ondo primaries. He called for a “level playing field” for all aspirants, saying it was the only way the party could avoid crisis. Mr Fayemi’s entrance particularly created some furore, as other aspirants expressed displeasure that he was ”already comfortable and needed not upset the applecart”. There were also contentions and bitter attacks leading up to the primaries. The party issued new rules and threats before calm settled on the battlefield. The APC national leadership has however, assured that only the popularly nominated candidate would emerge victorious at the election which holds at the Oluyemi Kayode stadium, Ado Ekiti. Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the party, John Odigie-Oyegun, while interacting with the aspirants and others allayed fears that the Ondo experience would reoccur on Saturday. PREMIUM TIMES can report that the delegates have become the ‘darlings’ of all the aspirants and are being wooed for their votes. This is in spite of several warnings against monetising the election. It is however not clear if the delegates and aspirants heeded the warning of the state party Chairman, Jide Awe, that they (delegates) might end up putting whoever eventually emerged as the party’s candidate in the bad light, given the desperate manner they (aspirants) have been going about seeking the ticket. Outgoing Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Chafe, has also given an antidote to avoid crisis. He advised that the Governor Tanko Al-Makura-led primaries committee should get all the aspirants to agree on the list of delegates before going for the election. While the idea by Mr Chafe may appeal to wisdom, the desperate political drives of aspirants may be a problem in achieving crises-free primaries. It is the duty of the party to provide the right environment and a transparent that will produce the candidate. This measure however is not a magic wand for producing a sellable candidate. Only the delegates can determine a candidate that can stand the roaring forces of incumbent governor, Ayo Fayose and his anointed candidate, olusola Eleka https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/267275-ekiti-2018-two-ex-governors-three-ex-senators-others-battle-for-apc-ticket.html |

…Queries INEC’s Registration Of APC Agents As Observers in Ekiti, Osun The admission by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of existence of underage voters in its voter register has vindicated the position of the PDP and clearly shows that we have not been crying wolf where there was none. While we acknowledge the development, we reject moves by the indicted commission to unilaterally clean up the discredited register and eliminate the minors without involving all stakeholders including political parties in the process. This is principally because we have already been made aware that INEC, under Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has been instructed by the Presidency and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to retain the underage voters, particularly in Katsina, Kano states and other porous states where they plot to use them to rig election for President Muhammadu Buhari. That INEC has been compromised by the APC clearly demonstrated in their earlier spirited denials of existence of underage voters in the register. Nigerians are aware that INEC only admitted the illegality following preponderance of incontestable documentary evidences exposed by the PDP. Furthermore, we are already aware of other illegalities being perpetrated in INEC by the APC to manipulate the electoral process not only for the 2019 general election but also the forthcoming governorship elections in Osun and Ekiti States. We are aware that a blood relation of President Buhari, who has been made in charge of very sensitive department in INEC, has been perfecting all manner of rigging plans, including the exposed plans to create illegal 30,000 polling units in porous areas to be used to allocate votes for President Buhari. We are also aware of underhand registration of APC agents as election observers, as well as the manipulation of INEC voters’ and constituency data to favour the APC. The PDP charges Prof. Yakubu to explain to Nigerians why his commission secretly registered over 4,000 APC agents as observers for the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections. INEC should explain why it registered observers without the knowledge of other stakeholders, particularly the major political parties contesting in the elections. It is clear that the sneaky activities of the commission and the APC are all aimed at institutionalizing their planned rigging of the governorship elections but we want to assure that such will be firmly resisted at all level of the electoral process. We therefore demand the immediate cancellation of the registration of observers for the Ekiti and Osun state governorship elections and demand the conduct of a fresh registration that involves all stakeholders if indeed they want Nigerians to have faith in their processes. Prof. Yakubu must understand that Nigerians are taking note of the erosion of the independence and public confidence in INEC under his watch and are not ready to accept any process or results that do not reflect the democratic will of the people in any election at any level across the country. Take away from Trump/ Buhari press conference 1. It was one-sided, Trump kept helping President Buhari finish his sentences. 2. USA will start exporting agricultural produce to Nigeria and not Nigeria to US. 3. US will not be buying Nigeria oil, President Buhari said he can't ask US to buy our oil because "you can't tell US what to do" 4. Donald Trump said the main reason for calling the meeting is to ensure US has a better trade deal with Nigeria. Buhari signed a document with Trump but we are not sure of the content and Buhari didn't seems to understand what he signed . 5. Trump charged Buhari to ensure the safety of Christians in Nigeria. He criticised the unending killings across Nigeria ... We are not sure at this time, if Buhari has unknowingly sold Nigeria to US or not as he was unsure of the points discussed during the meeting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68pPg-MTG6s |
American President Donald Trump has described the killings of Christians in Nigeria as unacceptable to his government. Trump spoke at the White House in Washington DC on Monday where he received President Muhammadu Buhari. The US president described the spate of killings in Nigeria as a "terrible problem" Trump said this would top the discussion he and Buhari would be having at their ongoing closed-door meeting. “Also we have had very serious problems with Christians who are being murdered in Nigeria, we are going to be working on that problem very, very hard because we cannot allow that to happen,”Trump said. Buhari thanked the US government for its support to Nigeria by approving the sale of military fightet jets. President Buhari said his government was addressing the situation https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/trump-to-buhari-us-won-t-accept-killings-of-christians-in-nigeria.html

BREAKING NEWS: DINO MELAYE'S RECALL SUFFERS A FATAL SET BACK AS RECALL EXERCISE FAILS AND OKUN PEOPLE ALLEGE FORGERY OF THEIR SIGNATURE IN THE FIRST LIST AND VOW TO SUE THOSE BEHIND THE FORGERY Arise News247 reports that based on the information gathered directly from all Polling Units in Kogi West, the recall exercise of Senator Dino Melaye is a total failure and thus outright waste of taxpayers resources. Almost all Polling Units (PU) were boycotted in the verification exercise. As at the time of filing in this report, less than one hour to the end of the verification exercise, record obtained from all Polling Units visited by Arise News247 correspondents reveal that total electorate confirmed to have been verified in the total Polling Units visited is just a little above 100 signatures. And some of those that came for the verification only went to the Polling Units to confirm the allegations that the so called signatures of petitioners were forged; and some did not see their signature on the list while some actually confirmed that their signatures were forged as they were never part of those asking for the recall of the Senator. While most Polling Units were completely deserted only few recorded turn out and very low turn out indeed. The following are the figures obtained from few Polling Units that people turned out. In Lokoja Club, 875 were said to have signed the recall form, but only 2 showed up and they both alleged that their names are on the list, but they were never part of any recall exercise, so their signatures were forged. At Paparanda Square, the electorates that turned out didn't see their names on the list, so they recorded zero verification. In Ukwo Okoriko, Ward A, unit 003, Kogi Koton Karfe Local Government only 18 turned out from the 440 electorates alleged to have signed the recall form. At the Ohogabi Polling Unit, 43 electorates showed up out of the 500 petitioners. While in Banda, Lokoja Local Government; out of the 512 alleged to have signed petitioners only 40 verified their signatures. While in all Polling Units visited in Kabba/Bunu, Ijumu, Yagba East LGA as well as Mopa, electorate completely deserted the verification centres as at the time Arise News247 correspondents visited the centres. Youth Corps members used for the exercise appeared to have been paid only to sit down operating their mobile phones while some rested their heads on their table to have a quick nap after their mobile phone battery/power bank ran down. This can only be described as exercise in futility. There was drama in Bolorunduro/Odo-Akete Ward in Kabba as one Mr. John Smith Mejabi raised alarm that his name appeared on the recall list as No 443 and ticked with pen and his signature forged "on the INEC verification for the ongoing fraudulent recall of senator Dino Melaye." Some boys believed to be APC boys attempted to intimidate him, but he insisted that, "for the records, I was never involved in this fraudulent signing last year." Thus, he said he will not allow such fraud go on, adding that he will surely take legal action against INEC and all collaborators. In a similar development, two other people in Fehinti around St. Joseph Primary School, Kabba also alleged to have seen their names and signatures on the recall list, yet they never knew anything about it Also at Lokoja Club, Ward A, PU 016, one Mr Samuel Olukotun said that he saw the name and forged signature of his wife, Mrs. Feyisayo Olukotun, on the recall list despite that she was not part of any recall process. Hence, he vowed "to sue the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)" for the forgery. Arise News247 notes that, INEC said that the result of the verification exercise will be announced tomorrow Sunday, 29th April, 2018 and further action will be decided. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2163886203843897&id=1778935029005685 |

The Kogi State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, has described the boycott and low turnout experienced in today’s recall process of Sen. Dino Melaye, as a reflection that the APC led administration of Gov. Yahaya Bello has lost value. In a statement signed by Achadu Dickson, Director Research and Documentation of the party, he thanked the people of West Senatorial District for heeding to vote against the recall. He described the failure of the recall exercise as an indication that the present administration is not popular, having inflicted poverty, hardship and suffering on the people. The PDP said the administration has not been sensitive to the plight of the people, who as civil servants are owed salaries for close to twenty months. In spite the resources accrued the present administration, the PDP lamented that no visible infrastructure development can be witnessed under the Gov. Bello’s administration, said the failure of the recall is a signal that the people have bid the administration goodbye. The PDP called on the APC led administration to start packing their load, pointing out that the red card signal the recall failure has presented, is an indication that Gov. Bello and APC time in the state is up. http://www.thenigerianpost.com.ng/failure-of-recall-an-indication-that-youve-lost-value-pdp-tells-gov-bello/

The task of developing and modernising of our society cannot be left to the government alone. Pst Kumuyi Hands jammed in praise, voices raised in worship as musical instruments blended in agreement on Tuesday to herald the inauguration of the Deeper Life Bible Church’s headquarters at Gbagada, Lagos. After 13 years wait, members of the church worldwide connected as one to celebrate the occasion which was also witnessed by many religious and political leaders in Nigeria. The multi-billion edifice, which was conceived and constructed by members of the church, is certainly worth the wait. Its remarkable world-class features make it a piece of architectural intelligence. According to information from the church, the 30,000 four-level amphitheatre comes with a central air-conditioning units, chiller farm and air-handing units. There are also modern toilet facilities connected to a Central Sewage System, standby generators and panel rooms, 7.5 MVA dedicated public power, and 2.5 MVA transformers. And right within the compound is a multi-purpose hall, water treatment plant, modern sewage treatment plant, two industrial boreholes and firefighting equipment. The auditorium also has a fire hydrant and hose reels, office facilities on five floors, six and 12-passenger elevators, among others. Adjoining the facility is a four-level framed structure car/bus park which can accommodate 450 cars and 75 buses, toilet facilities, restaurant and two-level sewage treatment plant. And to allay the fear of residents, Deeper Life went far and beyond the call of duty by constructing a multi-million naira flyover which occupied the entire length of Oduwaiye Street, complete with traffic lights. But very few would believe that such a masterpiece could be constructed on what used to be a marshy low land that was infested with snakes, scorpions, snails, fishes and reptiles. And even after the Deeper Life reportedly acquired the land, it could only manage to construct a 3,000-capacity auditorium in 1980, which was viewed as a luxury by members because the church never had a fellowship centre of its own for many years. Yet, in June 2005, the General Superintendent of the church, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, asked that the structure be pulled down to make way for what has now been said to be the fourth largest auditorium in the world. The holiness preacher, who was flanked at the event by his wife, Esther, and the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, urged religious leaders to also commit to impacting their environment. He said, “About 13 years ago, we knew that we were taking a leap of faith, but we trusted the lord that he would not only provide all we needed, but also direct the project to a successful conclusion. And today, we have even surpassed our expectation. “We embarked on the additional projects because we are convinced that the task of developing and modernising of our society cannot be left to the government alone. Individuals, non-governmental organisations and even corporate organisations, including religious groups, should be involved, as much as they can, in the spiritual, as well as physical uplift of our state and country.A feeling of nostalgia enveloped the congregation and those watching live through the social media and the life transmission when Kumuyi’s wife, Esther, paid tributes to the matriarch of the church, the late Mrs. Abiodun Kumuyi. Esther, in a heavy voice, described the deceased as “amiable, indefatigable,” saying she gave the church many worthy legacies of which the popular Christian Women Mirror magazine stood out. Osinbajo lauded the Deeper Life for its investment in a flyover and streetlights to ease traffic in the neighbourhood. He said the edifice is the fourth largest auditorium in the world. He described Kumuyi, as “a man of uncommon humility and commitment to the spread of the undiluted gospel of Jesus Christ with candour and integrity.” http://www.punchng.com/nostalgia-as-deeper-life-opens-multi-billionaire-edifice/
