This is an interesting and a sensitive topic. I can see two views on this thread. The public view and that of farmers'. That views on Twitter is just the public; hence, the poster was roasted. Lol.

Farmers face a lot that most people cant see. This salary issue is why they are vulnerable to theft.

If you are my follower in Agric, you will notice I have pivoted to micro farming scale, and expand toward retailing to maximize profit. I encourage small scale farmers to avoid employing full time workers in this present time because it is not favorable to pay salaries anymore if you do not have enough budget for it. Downscale drastically to a one-man operation. Do the daily chores yourself and contract out the hard activities (use casual workers and pay per day).

Also, the days of combining agric with yoyr day job is not now. It may return later. If you arent able to do the daily chores yourself, close the farm for now.

For example, if you used to manage 5,000,+ birds on your farm and you uded to combine it with your daily office work, you may run at loss now. Better you close the farm and move the operation to the backyard of your house. Build a small pen there for 500 birds you know you can spend 30 mins every morning from 6.30am to 7am before going to work. And get a casual worker to do the weekly sanitation only on Saturdays when you are at home.

Then, hustle for money you will spend during your old age. Try hard to provide 3 basic needs - home, clothes, shelter. Build or buy a house now that you are hustling as your retirement home. Save and invest well so that you can have something to feed yourself during old age. Your investments interests should take care of those expenses. If you can do this, you have remove about 70% burden from what they are going to carry. Lastly, take good care of your health from now so that you wont have a bad health and put the burden on them. Eat well. How do you do this? Marry well. If you dont have a good wife, start planning for the alternatives. Rest, rest, rest. Go for check ups.

Go to investment threads and start checking what you can do. Also check the agric sections. Grpw your food and live long. Food we eat these days are bad. Start gardening today. But many just focus on their salary, work work work and boom! Time has gone. Now that you have the strength, get the knowledge. Neither should you wait for your kids to arrange your old age nor Nigeria. I know a man (he was my granny's younger brother), and he passed at the age of over 80 around 20 years ago. This man was not so wealthy, but very OK. He got a house during his youth in Ilupeju (a lucrative place in Lagos). He worked hard in his youthful days and got a scholarship to study in England. Its part of it. He trained all his 4 boys. He didnt say he had to get a girl and kept trying. 4 kids in those days were not that bad when many were having 7 and above. All his boys are OK. He used to go to England for check ups every year. Guess what? He still felt sick and he passed, but he put no burden on anyone. None of his kids spent what they do not want to spend on him. I will explain. You might want to say he was rich and lucky. Nope. He used the British public hospital. Free for all citizens. Lol. But he got there because he studied hard. Mind you, his father was a pastor (pastors were not rich in those days). He took care of everything. Trained the kids, took care of his health, and that of his wife. And do you know what baffled me? He had bought his grave and that of his wife before he passed. He even had provided the whole money for coffin, clothes, entertainment. Lol. Do you know where he was buried? In a private cemetery in Ikoyi. I dont want to mention it, the Nigerian president's mother was buried innthe same cemetry. So you can guess it right if you can research well. You may want to argue that he is rich na. But nope. He actually got the public one initially, and he was OK with it. But when my granny passed and he heard they wanted to raise cash to buy a spot, he said no way. He offered his own. Then, I heard that he quickly went to buy the private one for himself and his wife. He got it very early and was so affordable. Tell me...how many people have such foresight? Today, it is around 40M naira to get a slot there. But he got it for a peanut when private cemetery was uncommon. Many saw it as waste of money, or rubbish. How can I buy my own grave?

Having children and spending on them is for the benefits of both the child,the parent and the society at large. If one should followed strictly the 18yrs of parental obligation on a child,we will have at least 90percents of young people without university education.A society that its young people are half educated can't achieve their full potential.

And biblically taking care of ones parent at old age is very important because it also come with blessings.Even if we have a system in place that take care of old people, you can't take away the God injunction that instructs children to take care of their parent. If I'm able to take care of my parent I will never allow them go to old people's home,so also I won't pray that at my old age I should be abadoned at old people's home.
